RE: office's response here on Yelp. I have not had issues with IPL in general--I've had great outcomes to treat my sun spots with IPL (see my review with photo) and as I said one bad one with an office that reduced power to meet Asian skin sensitivity, which I specifically had confirmed in an email and again verbally I did not want and was assured I wouldn't at James Wang's office. I think to not even address this is pretty crappy on your office's end. If there was never any intention to treat my skin as confirmed (industry standard vs Asian standard) and instead you were only trying to lower my expectations you should have been more honest instead of agreeing to otherwise--very misleading. And beyond that, if paying $770 but delivering zero results is your standard of delivering with excellence, all the more proof to stir clear of your business for IPL treatment. I can't even begin with how frustrated and disappointed I am. I set up an IPL treatment over a month ago because of the great reviews here, and after a lot of questions to the office to make sure I would get the most out of my experience since I had recently had a bad IPL experience elsewhere and wanted to make sure it didn't repeat. My main concern was really that I wanted them to not lower the power as they had told me they normally do with Asian skin because the last place I had gone to had told me the same thing and I had no result from the session. I was told over email that as long as I understood the risks of using the "standard" power setting, they would be fine with proceeding as I wished. Therefore I booked an appointment. On the day of the appointment, I also made sure to tell the dermatologist assistant who was performing the procedure on me. I told her it was a lot of money and I needed to make sure I got value out of it. Her response was, "of course". I also made it a point to let her know that I had had this done 3 times before and told her my last session didn't work to make my expectations clear. Immediately after the session I saw no sign of reaction so was already feeling anxious. And sure enough, here I am the next day with no apparent reaction still. These treatments are not cheap--$770. The fact that I paid so much money and got no effect from the procedure whatsoever is infuriating, especially after the fact that I had mentioned it both before and during the event because I was so, so afraid this was gonna be the outcome! In my opinion, this office felt very commercialized. The whole session took at max of 10 mn and the attention to caring and detail lacked a lot. My derm assistant was only concerned with making sure I come back in a month to continue with the sessions. This place just really made me feel like they were out to rotate people in and out the door. The proof is in the poor result of my experience. If you're strictly looking to get an IPL treatment, do not come here. It is a waste of time and money and I cannot recommend this place. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Wang highly enough. I've seen him 3 times this month for three skin issues--one rather alarming-looking leg mole; one elbow wart that has been around for years; and a hideously HUGE ankle callous that was white, scaly and disgusting. As a general rule, I'm not a fan of folks in the medical field, but I feel blessed to be in this brilliant dermatologist's care. His demeanor and patient interaction is sincerely caring, and his skills with needles and razors (!) are so smooth that I actually felt no pain whatsoever during the mole removal and callous shaving. Yes, I am one of those patients who research on my own, ask a lot of questions, prefer any type of medicine to "Western," and the way Dr. Wang allowed me to take as much time as I needed (within reason) so that we could engage in a discussion about diagnosis, procedures, etc. really made me feel that I was in good hands. Well, actually because I AM in good hands! There was one thing that happened on my first visit that I enjoy telling friends about because it's funny. I look down at the mole and say to him: "Could it be pre-cancerous?" and he responds lightly: "Or cancer." For me, a woman who is getting up there in years and has always been in good health, this was scary. But I absolutely appreciate his candor and the undramatic approach to reality that was gently stated before quickly moving into the actions we needed to take. I hate having to leave a bad review but I believe in 100% honesty. I came in for a simple concern about an eczema issue I had on my upper eyelid. Dr. Wang was extremely kind and I have nothing negative to say about my interaction with him. The issue was that I came in expecting to be prescribed a topical cream to resolve my eczema issue but Dr. Wang told me about getting a steroid shot since the area was so close to my eye and I wouldn't have to worry about thinning of the skin and applying the cream regularly. It seemed like a great solution when he presented it to me but he never went over the possible side effects. Even if I had a 1% chance of any kind of side effect, I believe the patient should be aware so they could make the proper medical decision after being told of all possible risks. With that being said, if I was told of any possibility of my butt area becoming disfigured (whether it be a rare outcome or not) I wouldn't have gone with getting the shot. After getting the shot, I started noticing the area that the shot was administered (which was my right butt cheek) starting to sink in and becoming distorted. It was very concerning so I gave Dr. Wang a call and he told me to come in (cost-free) so he could check it out. I came in and he let me know I had a very, very rare side effect and the only thing he could do was give me laser treatment to at least bring the color back. It's been a year since I got the shot administered and the sinking in of the area only seems to have gotten worse and not to mention the area is still discolored. It's summertime and it has been the biggest complex/concern of mine as I am unable to wear a bikini and it has also changed how my hips look on my right side. This issue has been on my mind for the past year as I can't help but feel stressed out every time I look in the mirror. Also, the best thing about all of this is that my eczema issue came back after about six month. On another note, after the office visit and laser treatment (which Dr. Wang mentioned over the phone would be cost-free), I got a bill sent to my home and it took an annoying back and forth with the billing department and front desk because they told me Dr. Wang only agreed to cover my co-pay for the office visit. First of all, I wouldn't have had to come to the office if I was told of the side effects and went with the cream in the first place. Eventually the issue got resolved but it didn't make my experience any more pleasant as I was already going through stress from the dramatic physical change I saw from the shot. I never write negative reviews but I'm writing this review in hopes that others who are considering getting a cortisone shot are aware of the possible side effect. I found dr Wang on yelp and made an appointment after reading the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, my experience has been far less stellar. I had two appointments w dr Wang which did not solve my relatively minor and cosmetic skin issue. On the first appointment, he 'tried' freezing, on the 2nd visit he used a electric device. Neither worked well and I would expect a doctor to know what they're doing rather then experiment procedures on patients to see what w I also never got a written diagnostic, I had to ask the dr the name for my skin issue. He blurted some medical term and left the room. This was on the 2nd appointment. Never received a written diagnostic but I was charged for a consultation on both visits. Regarding dr Wang response: You did NOT in fact explained in depth the diagnosis as you claim. You spent 10 min w me each time and you billed me in full for both consultations. That's almost $300 for nothing, in addition to the procedure itself. And why are you surprised? I expressed my discontent to you and your staff on the 2nd visit, but perhaps I was too polite for you to notice? Perhaps if you spent less time monitoring yelp and more time w patients, the former would take care of itself. Don't think I haven't noticed you got yelp to delete my initial review. Dishonest and infective. Yes, I was able to solve my issues w another doctor, she used laser - maybe you've heard of those. I found Dr. Wang through Yelp which I was kind of wary about. I needed to find a dermatologist and no one I knew was able to recommend one. I looked at a few other doctors and eventually decided to visit Dr. Wang and I'm so happy I did! I've been living with rosacea since I was a teenager and always thought there was nothing I could do about it. I tried a million creams, moisturizers and cleansers but nothing worked. I went to the Doctor for acne case and acne scars also because he has a good rating and comments in Yelp . But the truth is that He gave me medication that was in very high quantities (Minocycline 100 MG, Spironolactone 100 MG) each twice a day which I thought was too much Then I decided just take once a day, two weeks later I had an appointment for a microneedling session, I was hesitant to do it since I knew that this method leads to Needles and I'm scared, when I arrived at the clinic I mentioned it to him and obviously He spoke very well of the method so I decided to do it , but I did not know that I'm gonna look like a monster, they told me that it's not going to be painful . they applied anesthesia also they told me at 4 hours later I could make up as I usually doing, but the truth I had my face destroyed by three days . I don't see how the scars could improve, on the contrary I think that thanks to this method I will have new ones, supposedly I had to perform three sessions but obviously I wont torture my skin again . I made an appointment with Dr. Wang after a nasty itchy scabby rash popped up on my face a week ago and was spreading. I wouldn't leave the house without a beanie and even then I tried to leave as little as possible actually postponing client meetings out of embarrassment. It was bad! I called Monday and was able to get an appointment for Tuesday afternoon, thank goodness! Dr. Wang was kind and knew what he was talking about. After observing and discussing the rash we agreed to go with a cortisol shot and and a 7 day prescription drug to hopefully knock it out. I'm happy to say everything is clearing up and it has only been 2 days! Hopefully it will be gone soon :D I also wanted to discuss the mild/sometimes moderate hormonal acne that I have on a regular basis with him. I decided to go with both a topical regimen and oral treatment after talking about the options. It is too soon to tell what the results will be for that but I am hopeful. I went outside of my insurance and paid out of pocket so see Dr. Wang because of his great reviews and I am soooo glad I did. This was my first ever Dermatologist appointment. I had always put it off because I thought it would be way more expensive. The prices were reasonable and the piece of mind I got is priceless. Dr. Wang was very nice and funny when I met him. I was in a hurry to leave because I had booked an event right after the appointment and he was able to complete a skin exam as well as take off a mole I was concerned about while getting me to my next destination on time. I really appreciated that he was so accommodating. I loved that he followed up with my biopsies and had a plan for me when we spoke on the phone the week after. You can tell he really cares about his patients. The clinic was nice, clean, and had a basket of samples with moisturizers and sunscreen. Plus, they carried my favorite sunscreen, the EltaMD brand! If I could give a 10 Star rating...I would! I have seen many dermatologists over the years. Mediocre dermatology seemed to be the norm. Freeze this or that and you're good to go. No follow-up needed. A COVID safe lobby and friendly staff made me feel comfortable to complete the new patient paperwork. I was presently surprised how easy it was to discuss my concerns with Dr. Wang. I explained how skin issues embarrassed me and kept reappearing even after being treated by other dermatologists. My experience at Glendale Laser and Derm was fantastic. Dr. Wang is tremendously knowledgeable and considered both the needs of my skin and my psyche when making his decisions. That's going above and beyond. The office was friendly, and the front desk lady happily joked with me when I entered and exited the offices. The chair in the exam room is so comfortable that when I had to wait 3 minutes between nurse and doctor, I fell asleep. Admittedly, I'm a tired old man, but that's pretty good. Unfortunately, because of that same tired old man situation, I will have to have more dermatological work done, but I'm more than happy to make the trek to Dr. Wang's practice to make sure I get the best, most thorough care. I really enjoyed seeing Dr. Wang. I live in West LA but was recommended by a friend to come see Dr. Wang! It was worth the drive to come to his El Segundo office to see him! He has amazing credentials (Harvard and UCLA)! But most importantly, I look for doctors who is kind, caring, down to earth, funny and easy going! Dr Wang was all of the above! I went and saw Dr. Wang at Glendale Laser and Dermatology Associates on a Saturday, which is much more convenient for my schedule (he also works in Arcadia on some Saturdays too). I loved the office staff who were professional and friendly. They brought me back within 5 minutes, and Dr. Wang came in within seconds. So efficient! He was warm, relaxed and pretty witty. Most importantly, he valued my time and addressed all my concerns. The medications prescribed worked and were not expensive. Really amazing dermatologist. I saw Dr. Wang at another location before, but this place ended up being much closer for me and I wanted to follow him here on a day that works for me. His Saturday morning clinics are so much better for me in terms of traffic. It's hard to find a really good dermatologist who will spend time with you and answer questions while being really nice. My parents came here to get laser treatments with Dr. Wang. My dad got the Sciton Halo laser done for pretty bad acne scarring, and after 3-4 sessions, we've already noticed some improvements! Mom got some BBL laser treatments for some sun spots on her cheeks. I really appreciate that Dr. Wang has been amazing with my parents - they say that Dr. Wang is a natural in putting them at ease and has exceptional bedside manner. They look forward to their next appointments with him, and keep telling me that it's such a pleasant experience going to clinic.
