This place is GREAT! Dr Janice Ma is the very best! I have had to deal with acne & rashes for years. I have been to a few other dermatology locations and dealt with other dermatologists in the past - none of them helped with getting my rashes and acne taken care of. However, I found Metropolis Dermatology a few years ago and as soon as my first appointment ended I knew that this place was going to be very helpful. The facility is clean, the receptionists are kind, and the dermatologist know what they are talking about. For me specifically, Dr. Janice Ma has been amazing. She is so kind, talented, knowledgeable and most of all caring. She helped me with all my skin and rash issues so well. My skin is clearer than ever and I couldn't be happier! She did so well that I recommended her to a colleague of mine and my colleague said the exact same thing - she is the best! I made approximately two visits in 2023 to improve my acne. I was prescribed medication for approximately $80. I asked my primary doctor about the same medication and only paid around $10 for the exact same prescription. I later received multiple messages from Metropolitan dermatology, claiming that I owed a balance for Botox and fillers. A service which I never requested or received. It has now been three years later, I have never gone back and yet the business is still claiming that I have an outstanding balance for an alleged filler appointment. It should also be noted that the company failed to provide me with an itemized receipt or proof of service. Although the doctor was friendly upon my visit, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere due to the inflamed prices and lack of proper communication and documentation. read more

Tried getting in touch with them as I had a few questions regarding some of their treatments. This place wants you to make a consultation appointment and charge you $175 for it. They also don't apply that fee towards any of the treatments if you decide to do one with them. I also requested to speak to one of their doctors before the consultation and they declined saying their doctors are not allowed to talk to anyone except when they see patients on the day of the consultation!!! read more

Dermatologist Riana Sanyal is really wonderful. I am so sorry that I will not be returning after I get this issue dealt with. Clearly, this is a business geared toward clients who: Don't question much; Accept text-only, impersonal service; Go with the flow . Simply put, these patients are low effort, with high volume and $$s results, at minimum financial investment. No text nor phone call responses after 4 calls and texts I made. A very kind call center lady, Cassandra, was great. She was able change my appointment since my 4 previous communications never were acknowledged. Perhaps this is another way to gouge patients for $$ as they demand a 48 hour cancelation notice. This is why AI is taking over. Dr. Wang, don't be so sure you won't live to see the day where an AI robot takes your job as well, and still offers more personal service! 2 Stars is only for Dr. Sanyal. Would not recommend this dermatology office. 1. It's impossible to get a hold of a live person, they only allow you to leave messages and get a call or text back later. Even then, if you need information on something, it can take several days for them to get back to you. 2. The visit I had with my dermatologist was incredibly not comprehensive and very quick. My last dermatologist always did an annual full body mole check, but my dermatologist appt with Metropolis was very brief and surface level - barely answering the questions I had. 3. They highly recommend (basically force) you to use a pharmacy they have partnered with that is mail order/delivery only. I asked to just get my prescriptions sent to my local CVS but they said it would be "much more expensive" at my local CVS which I feel skeptical is actually true.. and basically wouldn't send it to CVS for me. Patients should be allowed to utilize any pharmacy they like without push back and with ease. 4. During my appt, I asked about a red spot on my nose and my derm had suggested I could remove it with a laser treatment. I didn't jot the name down of the specific laser treatment because I wasn't ready at the time to proceed and anticipated it to just be in my medical notes for when I was ready. I recently called back (it's been several months but I expected them to have the recommendation in my medical notes like I said) to ask what that treatment was as I was finally ready to proceed. The office said the doctor never wrote it in my notes and said I need another consult visit ($165) to determine what laser treatment I need. Isn't it required to document treatment recommendations in a patient's medical notes? Now they want me to pay for another visit? Sounds like just another money grabbing scheme. Unfortunately due to all these issues I will not be returning to this office. read more

Visited this office 4-5 times and can confidently say the space is stunning, immaculate, modern, and beautifully maintained. Dr. Ma is fantastic, and every physician assistant was kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient. Dr. Ma and her PA team truly made me feel cared for during each visit. That said, my overall experience was mixed. While the clinical team was great, the front desk and checkout staff unfortunately made me feel more like a burden than a patient. On one occasion, I had a confirmed appointment that wasn't in their system - arrived on time, but instead of an apology or attempt to accommodate, was told to return another day with zero empathy. Also worth noting: If you're the first appointment of the day, they tend to run on time. But any later and you should expect to wait 45 min - 1 hour wait. Ultimately, feel this office might be better suited for cosmetic services rather than medical ones. Because I was paying out-of-pocket for hair treatments (not covered by insurance), the lack of warmth and hospitality at the front desk became too much to overlook, which is why I decided to stop going. read more

My family has been going here for a year. It really is a very special office. All of the doctors are excellent and their care is very courteous and conservative. They don't try to push a lot of products on you, and they're very thorough. We have seen Dr. Wang, Dr. Ma and nurse practitioner Cordova. Highly recommend any of these three. I have had by far the worst experience in medicine of my life with this practice. I first saw Amit Patel, a PA and he put me on tretinoin. After a month I was purging pretty bad and he looked at my skin and told me to keep going and make an appointment for a month later. After a week my skin was so much worse I called and demanded to see an MD and they set me up with Dr. Riana Sanyal. She looked at my skin and immediately told me I had periorial dermatitis and to stop the tret, that it was making it much much worse. The carelessness from which my skin was misdiagnosed was just the beginning, in trying to cure the periorial dermatitis Dr. Sanyal has shrugged when I told her her solutions were making it worse and then gaslit me when I try to talk to her about it. I have left this office in tears multiple times. I cannot emphasize enough bow this practice made my skin worse. This is the worst my skin has been in my entire life and it is soley their fault. Do not trust your skin with these people, it is too important. read more

The facilities are immaculate, the staff is friendly and efficient, but I think this office is better suited for "cosmetic" dermatology rather than medical purposes. Dr. Wang was friendly and professional, but ultimately, he did not do a thorough examination. Perhaps he is so skilled that a 2-3-minute examination is all that was needed; however, I feel like my time was wasted and I will find another dermatologist. Booked via ZocDoc, was with a completely different doctor. The staff was incredibly rude, they were more interested in a medical rep who wanted to figure out when she could buy breakfast for the office (for those who don't know, medical reps basically bribe doctors to prescribe their meds in exchange for fancy dinners and incentives) so it was great to see how much the staff cared more about than the actual patients, but I can't say enough how bad the staff were. When we scheduled a follow up, I told them it'd have to be in December because I'd be in Japan. Tell me why they texted me while I was in Japan reminding me about our appointment the next day, when I told the I absolutely did not schedule for November they made it sound like a me problem. Went in for hair loss, they took a bunch of before photos of me. That's without even meeting the doctor. They put me on minoxidil. And just like that I leave. Also was supposed to be prescribed something for sweat, never ever got that prescription. Avoid this place like the plague, they want you in and out fast to collect their check. I will never forget that staff though, the actual worse. Also why are the reviews saying "wow what a pretty office" who cares when the service is awful. That's wild what people prioritize. read more

Really clean and organized office. Went in as a first time patient and everyone was very sweet! The dr took her time with me to hear all my concerns! Rooms were up to date and modern! However I had my appointment at 1:20 and didn't get seen until 1:50 after I asked about how much longer it will be. I understand dr offices can run behind but I didn't get an update or anything (like an "oh sorry we're running behind"). I've been a patient for a couple years, and have always had a positive experience. I've had skin checks, some biopsies, but nothing major. The reason I'm writing this review is because a different doctor had discovered a basal cell carcinoma on my face that had gone missed at my last two appointments. Incidentally, the person who noticed it was my aesthetician who does my facials in May. I had an appointment at Metropolis in May, and another in early October. It was biopsied and diagnosed later that month by a different dermatologist that I had seen for a laser consult. I have since changed providers. read more

I showed up for a scheduled laser treatment for a skin condition, only to be told--after checking in--that my insurance had not yet authorized the procedure. This information could (and should) have been verified before my appointment. A simple phone call would have saved me an unnecessary trip. I am 75 years old, and I traveled to this appointment expecting to receive care, not a 30-second update that should have been handled in advance by the office staff. To make matters worse, the technician, Ms Cordoba was prepared to explain this to me in the middle of the waiting area, in front of other patients. There was no attempt to bring me into a private space until I insisted. Discussing insurance and medical issues publicly is unacceptable and unprofessional. This experience shows a lack of coordination, respect for patients' time, and basic consideration for privacy. If the office required insurance authorization, that responsibility should be handled before patients are asked to show up. Very disappointing experience overall. read more

I recently had a bad experience here and am amazed to find out that it virtually replicates someone else's less than a year ago. Here's what Suzanne T wrote in February 2024: "I had a tiny cyst for over a year. Then it puffed up like a pimple so I decided to have it removed ... As I got close to the check up, it started looking infected ... The PA came and nonchalantly said it was a staph infection (just from looking - no testing) said it was common (really???) and prescribed an antibiotic. It got worse so I went to Urgent Care (who actually tested it). They were perplexed by the antibiotic they prescribed and gave me another one. I also went to a real dermatologist who said I would be left with a big scar from such a deep wound." MY STORY: I too was going to have a cyst removed, I too was assigned to a PA (not the dermatologist), and my cyst also got inflamed beforehand. The PA put me on an antibiotic and told me to wait for the inflammation to go away, but the cyst got bigger and angrier looking as the days went by. I sent in numerous pictures expressing concern and was told that it wasn't infected and to keep waiting. In desperation, I too went to Urgent Care, where they expressed surprise that I was not brought in immediately and the cyst drained and tested (which they did). At that point the cyst was starting to rupture and causing me excruciating pain. I learned that yes, of course the cyst was infected and (after testing) that the bacteria causing the infection was resistant to the antibiotic I had been prescribed. Once the cyst was drained and I was put on the right antibiotic, it began to heal, but I too will have a bigger scar because of waiting too long to get proper treatment. I am truly dumbfounded at how mishandled my very common dermatological condition was, and the fact that this mistake was made twice by the same office is deeply concerning. read more

I came to see Dr. Ma after experiencing a terrible month of breakouts, rash, and a plethora of other skin problems. First off, parking in this area is a nightmare. You have to arrive 5-10 minutes early to account for how long parking takes! Yes, you can technically park under the building, but it costs $1.50/15 minutes - and boy, does it add up. Second, the lobby and entire area is gorgeous. I questioned whether I was in a "real" dermatologist office or a spa center for a moment because of how aesthetically pleasing everything was. The receptionist, nurse, and all staff were very friendly. That being said, boy was the wait LONG. I think I spent 30+ minutes just waiting for the doctor to arrive, which is something I'd expect from the tiny office at my PCP but not necessarily at such an bougie clinic. However, once Dr. Ma finally came in, everything was peachy. She was SO sweet and empathetic, and seemed to know what she was talking about. She got me on a prescription and regime which I only started 2 days ago, so time will tell what results are - but for now, I'm sold. Just wish the wait wasn't so long and it wasn't so difficult to get here! read more

Had 2 moles shaved off here and paid $800 out of pocket Couple months later one of them still has the pigment left , contacted them to see if they can fix it or at least make it less noticeable as they clearly didn't shave it off all the way and all they did is offered me laser treatment for another $450 (per session!) and it requires 2-3 sessions. I've been coming to MD consistently over the last 6 months and they continue to keep up their quality services. Their appointment reminders are always courteously and reasonably in advance with gentle reminders to reschedule or cancel before the late cancellation fee occurs (which I am for because people are flaky and disrespectful of other people's time). I only see Dr. Ma, because I'm a ride-or-die person like that. It's a testament to what Dr. Ma brings to the practice. I'm extremely elated that she will be seeing patients mostly in the Pasadena office moving forward. The rest of the team are highly approachable and helpful as well. Dr. Ma continues to be thoughtful, considerate, and skillful with her consultations and procedures, so my confidence is 100% with her. I've had a few treatments done and am pleased with the fact that I had no unsightly complications with them. I am a willing human pin cushion for her treatments. She can zap, poke, and inject all she wants because we both have an understanding that my type of aesthetics isn't about Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Since she is younger than me and women tend to outlive men, I plan to grow youthfully old with her as my derm and beauty consultant of choice (as long as she doesn't retire before my long vanity journey's end). I plan to be open-casket handsome without much need of a mortician in the end when I become a vegetable who will have lived a good life. The staff from the moment you check in to the moment you leave is incredibly helpful and communicative, especially when it comes to navigating my specific insurance. The waiting time has always been normal for a doctor's office, people sometimes expect instant appointments, but these are medical professionals doing thorough work, and I appreciate that. I've seen two different female providers here, and both have been amazing: attentive, patient, and really focused on addressing my concerns. They do not validate parking but that's also normal everywhere, so give yourself enough time to find street parking or simply park at their structure. They refuse to take my insurance suddenly for no reason. I have a very annoying mole rubbing up against my clothes and need it to removed. However they suddenly for no reason required a referral from my student health center to use my insurance. I tried calling my student health center only for them to refuse to refer me. Would give more stars if I could. Dr. James Wang and his staff are the definition of professionals who actually care. I was dealing with an unknown condition that mysteriously came outta nowhere. I initially sought for treatment with Dr. Wang, who unfortunately was fully booked that day. His kind and empathetic receptionist heard my symptoms and with some maneuvering, squeezed me in to seek help. I ended up having to see various specialists over the course of 3 weeks but somehow found my way back to Dr. Wang when no one was able to help me. The reason I came back was none other than the fact that Dr. Wang truly took the time to listen and order lab tests or run biopsies. He didn't try to rush me out of my appointment nor did he disregard or belittle my concerns. He even checked in on me between appointments. In the long run, the condition went away just as mysteriously as it came. I've had a keloid develop on one of my ears that has become large and noticeable. I haven't dealt with keloids to this extent, and I became very self-conscious about showing my ear because of it. I finally had time to seek professional help, and I chose Metropolis Dermatology because of the high ratings on Yelp. I've been working with Dr. Sanyal, and she successfully removed my keloid after two visits of steroid injections and the third to finally remove it from my ear. We've had a post-op follow-up to see how my ear had been healing after two weeks, and it feels more or less like I never had the keloid. I am happy to have finally removed it from my ear. I gained genuine confidence from it being gone and no longer went out of the way to conceal my ear. I appreciate Dr. Sanyal's kind nature. She has been a pleasure to work with, and I'm thankful for her help! read more

You have to use a user name and password to open and access it. It is so inconvenient and I never remember what my user name is. I don't even remember ever creating an account. It is a nightmare trying to get someone on the phone to answer questions about billing. I really hate the Bots!! I do really like Dr. Ma. Her service, communication and treatments were great. I came to visit Dr. Tiffany Wang about a week ago for a couple of reasons. First, I had been suffering from adult acne for almost the past year and have tried multiple things. With a new skincare regimen and taking doxycycline, it was slowly improving but I would consistently have a few cystic pimples always. I got the Hollywood laser peel and some acne treatments. I noticed pretty immediately that my skin was brighter and softer. I also haven't had a single new pimple since! The 2nd thing I got was botox masseters which is supposed to help decrease clenching and make your jaw/chin slimmer. I feel way more relaxed when I clench. The last thing I got was RF micro needling in the the side boob area. I've had a little extra lump on my right side for forever that I've been pretty insecure about, but this micro needling has noticeably helped tighten the area and make it look smaller. Got seen by Dr. Ma, and she was the most helpful healthcare provider! I developed a lot of skin irritation this past year from allowing my beard to grow longer. Terrible administrative support. After a year and a half, my son and I still do not have access to our portals. There is no way to contact the office except by phone, and you can wait a half hour to be connected. Bill notices come via email, but when you try to pay online, their payment system doesn't work. I just had a telehealth appointment and no link was sent; I called in and sat on hold for 15 minutes and finally gave up.
