I have moved out of the area and the only reason I haven't left a review yet is selfishly to make sure there were available appointments as I have a very painful condition and needed to be seen regularly. If I could give this business less than 1 I would for their predatory ways. This place runs like a scam. I called yesterday just to ask whether they could send a prescription for a compounded cream to a pharmacy in New York. I never confirmed or scheduled an appointment, yet I'm now getting nonstop text messages reminding me about an "upcoming appointment" and warning that I'll be charged a $50 no-show fee if I don't attend. I've tried calling multiple times to straighten it out, but no one answers the phone. If you're going to threaten patients with fees, at least have someone available to answer the phone and fix your own scheduling errors. Very frustrating experience. They confirmed with me that my visit for an injection would only have a co pay and they instead billed a totally different amount, nothing to do with insurance, they confirmed with me that I would only be responsible for co pay. Something that was never mentioned during the numerous confirmation messages I received about my appointment which indicated it was for a facial. It was very clear I was a brand new patient since I had to fill out new forms but the front desk did not mention this was just a consultation at any point. I did not need a consultation, have minimal skin concerns, and was only interested in receiving a facial. The doctor proceeded to give me an overview on the services they provide for 20 minutes, tell me I didn't need any of them and then send me on my way. Worst phone system ever. Tried calling the office to discuss bill I am receiving from collections 3 years later. Not sure for what. The lady time I was there the doctor could not really help me and the meds she prescribed, the office forgot to call in at my pharmacy so I went a whole weekend with hives and no meds. Three years later I get a call from collections agency and they reached me within the first call. But in the last three years, the office never reached out to me in regards to this bill. This was my first visit to a dermatologist in years, and it'll be my last time at this location. I came in with 5-6 specific concerns, including spots that had changed on my face and neck. The assistant who brought me into the room didn't even say hello, and when I began explaining my concerns, she told me I could only ask two questions--the rest would have to wait for a future appointment. So I picked my top two: 1. Freezing off a wart on my finger (which I've tried to do at home with no success), and 2. Looking at a scar on my face that's been there since I was a teenager. The PA who saw me, Julia Berman, barely froze the wart--she applied the nitrogen for maybe a second, then told me to keep trying at home. That's literally why I came to a derm in the first place. I freeze them off only for them to come back every time. I literally told her this multiple times and she said to just keep trying. As for the scar, she misdiagnosed it as acne and prescribed me a topical cream for breakouts. It's not acne--it has no head, no irritation. It's a flat red spot I've had for over 10 years that has recently changed shape. The whole appointment lasted under 20 minutes. I left feeling completely dismissed. Terrible bedside manner. No real explanations. An absolute waste of time. I've never been more angry at an experience with a medical professional. read more

1/5 -- A Beautiful Office That Wasted My Time I really wanted to love Metropolis Dermatology. The downtown LA location is stunning -- sleek design, friendly front desk staff, and an overall great vibe. It looks like a 5-star experience waiting to happen. But unfortunately, I never got past the waiting room. I arrived early for my 1:00 PM appointment, got through check-in (which included the usual ID and insurance card handoff), and then was given a tablet to fill out patient forms. Cool in theory -- except it kept glitching and took way longer than expected to complete. By the time I finished, it was already past my appointment time. At 1:30 PM, I was still waiting when a patient with a 1:30 appointment arrived, got checked in, and was called back before me -- even though I had arrived early and completed my forms. I had to leave by 2:00 to pick up my child across town, and at that point, I realized I wasn't going to be seen at all. The result? I spent nearly two hours commuting and waiting, paid almost $40 in parking, and likely still owe a co-pay -- all without ever seeing a doctor. I left without being seen. And while I'm sure Metropolis Dermatology deserves its shiny reputation and 5-star aesthetic, I wouldn't know firsthand. Don't book unless you've got plenty of time to kill. Be prepared to fight the tablet/check-in system Budget for expensive parking $16 per 15 minutes $46.50 max And maybe bring a backup plan -- like another dermatologist across town. Not the happiest, I will say I don't really care for their online approach or the lack of clarity on billing and horrid customer service. If you have all the money in the world and no need to worry about extremely high bills and terrible service, then this is the place for you. I went in for non cosmetic medical procedures. I had a cyst on my back that was getting worse and I had extracted it several times for it to come back. Thus, I wanted to get it removed. I asked what the cost would be and if my insurance would cover this and was given a ton of waffle about it not being their problem. Again, expected to pay for a service with no inkling on what the cost will be!!! Fair enough, insurance is difficult to deal with. HOWEVER, they could have given me an IDEA of what the cost range was! I got a whopping $300 bill for it, and see they charged upwards of 700. I can't stand doctors with this attitude, I am sorry but it is your responsibility to care about costs and make sure your patients are aware. We are in a country with terrible medical and people skipping out on procedures due to costs. If you don't want this, don't be a doctor or go to another country where it does not matter. It is part of care here. I tried to discuss my bill with them and they HUNG UP ON ME! Incredibly professional... I also did not get any bill from them in the mail or via email. I had to track it down and ask for a copy. It listed what was owed on the portal but did not show the actual bill which I had to ask for. They tried to double charge me for an office visit. Communication is incredibly awful at this place. I did not even receive aftercare instructions as I have with other places. When I went in to remove the stitches I was in a rush, trying to do so before work and they left me sitting there 30 minutes until I said something, to find out the nurses were chatting and could have helped me immediately but no one said anything. read more

Had a small mole removed from my face and was told it would be flat and hardly noticeable after. It's been months now and it's SO much worse. It's bright red and raised. Completely messing with my confidence because it's on my face, so bummed out about this one. I am going to have to pay for multiple treatments to now attempt to fix it but still may not be fixable. I've seen Julia Berman for Botox and Dysport. She's great! Not only is she funny and approachable, but she also makes it easy to explain what you want even if you don't have the technical/medical knowledge. She was able to adjust amounts and locations of injection sites while explaining her reasoning so that I was confident in the procedure. Totally recommend her if you're worried about injections and need someone who is able to explain the process or experienced with injections and want someone who knows their stuff! read more

There are surprisingly very few dermatologists open on Saturday in LA county. I am fighting a skin issue for the past two months. So, i picked this one the night before and made an appointment online. The office is in the 888 building on the 10th floor. See the receptionist to let you in the elevators then pick 10th floor. Once you are inside the office, you are greeted by a lovely receptionist who gives you an ipad to fill out the information for new patient. The place itself is very clean and spacious. I was a little nervous about seeing a dermatologist for the first time, but everyone here was very welcoming. I was told my insurance wasnt covered because I was out of network and that my visit would be $170+ treatment plan. Luckily, i was prepared and surprisingly, this price is actually affordable to other locations closer to me and even with insurance. I filled out the forms and then in 10 min I saw to see a nice nurse who did my intake information. I told her about my reasons for arriving and they were very understanding. Then I met with the dermatologist who gave my diagnosis + treatment plan. I left feeling reassured that I can fight the skin issue. I will post a follow up review in two weeks. But for now I need to go pick up the prescription at the pharmacy tomorrow. read more

I've struggled with acne all of my life and this is the first time that I've EVER had a completely clear face...at 38! I thought I'd never see the day! I'm eternally grateful to Jeff who got me on Spironolactone and Alma who does my facials. I'm literally so happy with my results, I could cry! They also help get rid of with cystic acne with cortisone shots which keeps me clear when I need extra help...which has been a complete life saver because cystic acne usually takes sooo long to go away and leaves nasty hyperpigmentation for weeks after...not anymore! One shot and those suckers are gone! The entire staff is amazing and I always feel so welcome and cared for when I visit. I also love that they have offices all over LA so even when I've moved, I've been able to go to an office nearby. Added bonus, their offices are absolutely gorgeous, truly a vibe. HELLO I saw Tiffany Wang again to receive laser on my chest due to acne scars and for chin and lip filler. Every time I come here I feel so welcomed and the practice itself is beautiful. Tiffany did an AMAZING job again but are we surprised? ;) Words can't describe how great she is with her patients. I didn't think chin and lip filler would do that much of a difference to my face, but boy was I wrong. I've added pictures here where you can see how slight but huge the before and after pictures are. I also added a picture of the filler that was used. Tiffany was so gentle with me and made sure to check in and see if I needed any breaks. Surprisingly I did not need any breaks but probably bc she is so good at what she does. I feel so much more confident with my side profile and face overall my face feels way more balanced, and in harmony with each other. I will be coming to Metropolis Dermatology again and again. I did not pay for any service here. I'd be happy to make amends to my review if/once I do, but the reason for this is that I made an appointment for a consultation online, and no where in the website does it mention a $175 or something consultation fee. I tried checking again right before writing this review, and there's nothing. So what ended up happening was I took some time off of work, went to the office (btw parking isn't the easiest in this part of downtown LA), and then when I showed up, that's when the receptionist told me about the $175 consultation fee- which is NOT applied to anything except for two types of procedures (I think it was botox and something else). I was asked if I would like something medical done instead, because then perhaps my insurance could cover it. But since mine was cosmetic (most insurance don't cover cosmetic procedures), this wasn't possible. Hopefully in the future they fix the website because it's super inconvenient. If my procedure is well into the thousands then $175 might be a bit more reasonable but since many facial and cosmetic, one/two-time procedures' prices aren't astronomical, $175 for a consultation doesn't make for a great start. In any case, I would've just liked to know before making the appointment and not have to waste my time. read more

Dr. Shauna Higgins is a DELIGHT. I like my providers to feel like real people. They are looking at our speckled bits, and feeling safe and comfortable is so important. I was running late (don't be like me), left in my house shoes, and ran to the office in a panic, all hot and sweaty, and she still made me feel safe and comfortable. She listened, and I felt heard and cared for. As for the office, they are also so kind and attentive. They messaged me with detailed parking information. Who else does that?? They made my life so much easier, and even though I was running behind, having those details ahead of time saved me and them valuable time. Also, they work with a pharmacy, that is really cool! My insurance did not cover one of the facial creams I wanted to try, and my out-of-pocket cost from CVS would have been $600+ and only $50 with their pharmacy! The office is nice and the staff and nurses are decent enough. It is also easy to get in for an appointment right away which is helpful. The negative is that they have a policy where if it's been over 3 months since you've seen them they make you set up an unnecessary appointment. I was trying to get a refill for a face cream I ran out of because I am going out of town for awhile. I went in a little over 4 months ago so I missed this made up window and they don't really seem to care because "policy". Their office is in a prime location in DTLA so it makes sense that they need to cover their overhead by milking their patients under the guise of policy. Make sure you are aware of this fine print and set up frequent visits within their window if you need any refills on anything because they don't make it clear upfront and won't budge on it. Also they don't validate parking so be prepared to pay $40+ if you park in the garage for their building especially if they are running behind and you are there longer than expected. read more

Tiffany Wang, PA-C provided exceptional care and did such a great job during the entire process of removing my hemangioma birthmark via Derma V. She was so friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. I was really nervous about the treatment area being prone to scarring as a person of Asian ethnicity, but she took the time to fully address my concerns and made me feel comfortable. I also appreciate that she took things at a pace where the integrity of my skin would not be compromised. The treatment itself was not painful at all, and each session was very quick. Tiffany was so kind to follow up with me after our sessions to see how I was healing, to ensure that everything was going smoothly, and to answer any questions I may have had. You can tell that she is very passionate about her work and cares about her clients. I have one more treatment to go, but am so happy with the results so far as they have exceeded my expectations. This place is like most dermatology/med spas out there. They're only interested in selling their latest laser treatment. Do yourself a favor. Go to Amazon or whereever and buy a device that you can use on your own for red light therapy or Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) as these devices can save you a lot of money. The thing is, these doctors probably know about PDT but they won't recommend this cost saving measure for obvious reasons. For me, after spending several thousand dollars here, there was no good result and they treated me like a walking ATM with no discussion about treatment or anything remotely close to medical advice. Last year, I was a mess. I had severe psoriasis in all the wrong places - my face, my elbows, my knees, scalp. Having this disease was not only humiliating, but also debilitating. My skin always gave me anxiety and just when I was beginning to lose all hope, I met Jeff Bonnaud. Jeff was kind, patient, knowledgeable, caring, and relentless when it came to addressing my psoriasis. Over the course of a year, we tried multiple approaches to tackle my problem - from topicals to lasers and finally (my new favorite) biologics. Little did I know that he was somewhat of an expert on biologics - which have now turned my life around. Now, over a year later, ~98% of my plaque psoriasis has gone. The regimens are working better than I had even hoped for.
