Even as someone who is not a golfer, I have really enjoyed my visits to Jamestown Golf Course. I've stopped in to see my favorite employee, Erin, grabbed drinks with a friend and recently attended a Memorial Golf Tournament. Every experience has been wonderful. Everything always runs smoothly and you can truly tell the entire team works well together. From the operations crew to the bartenders, everyone is friendly, welcoming and helpful. This course is such a special spot in Jamestown. Do not let the smaller size fool you. The recent upgrades are fantastic and the course is always looking fresh, green and beautifully maintained. Okay the course is great! Love the design and layout. In the other hand there's NO TEE TIMES and we had to wait an hour and a half to tee off. Pace was fine but then had to wait another hour to play the back nine. Lady at the bar wasn't pleasant at all and gave an attitude. Just needs a refresh of staff and SOME TEE TIMES! read more

With recent changes , it is a disaster on weekends. 2-2 3/4 waits. Website schedule worthless. If a league end at 11, you might get off by 1 or 1:30 They are trying to get 2 or more extra groups in to make more money while forcing 40 plus people each day to wait hours read more

Jamestown Golf Course Great course! I'm new to golf but have had the chance to play in Florida, Georgia, and California--and Jamestown absolutely holds its own. The weather and course conditions in September were perfect, and the layout was both fun and challenging. The quality of the course and the value for the price are outstanding. Staff were friendly, and the locals I was paired with made the round even more enjoyable (and hilarious!). Highly recommend! read more

Got a round and they charged me 30 bucks for two sleeves of Callaway supersofts. Asked for an itemized receipt and pro shop told me they couldn't do it. Literally saw her type in the charge manually anyway. This place will try to scam you, just don't go here. Everyone here has an attitude and will make you hate playing here. read more

The town really needs to evaluate the contract with the current company. The whole place is run like an amateur hour that reflects badly on the town. The course and restaurant are gems that are being under utilized. Bring in some pros and run it like a professional organization. read more

Constantly the worst golfing experience in the state of Rhode Island. Haven't played since before Covid and it's still just terrible, no oversight on order of play and good luck waiting under an hour before getting out to play. The no tee-times make this place just unbearable. If you are free enough to waste 5 hours on this, go ahead, at least the course is solid. read more

Women at the window is very rude. Employees jumped in on the hole in front of us and had 5 people on one hole holding us up. Zero golf etiquette at this place and the greens are terrible. read more

Nice easy course with beautiful scenery. The problem with a nice easy course with beautiful scenery is you get every amateur and their cousin to play there. Course doesn't take tee times and in mid summer expect a 3 hour 9 hole round. I will say the greens keeper has done an excellent job with this course over the years. Once they put the irrigation system in, the course really took off, the only issue now was some terrible luck with diseased greens. Exeter had a similar issues if I remember. I do love this track for it's simplicity and beauty... I hate how crowded it gets and over played, be warned it won't be a fast round if you go during peak times, also call ahead to make sure there isn't a league or tournament. read more

This a small but well appointed course. While not a tough course it does have enough challenges to keep it interesting. The staff could not have been nicer. The views are beautiful and the pace of play was fine. We would definitely look forward to playing here again. read more

Wow! We love this course but today was not a good experience. As we went to the window to pay we saw a sign that said "pay first then check in with starter" . The VERY UNPLEASANT woman behind the counter told us we had to check with the starter first. We mentioned the sign and she yelled "I already told you what to do go check with the starter and comeback" . As I waited at the window she began ranting loudly about how everything is a mess and she didn't know what was going on or what the starter was doing. The starter informed us there was a tournament due in half an hour and there wouldn't be enough time for us to start. Ok, but could the woman at the counter have told us that-respectfully/calmly? We ended up leaving. The woman behind the counter was so loud and rude. After reading other reviews it appears this is an ongoing problem. What a shame, it's such a great place for golf. read more

Course looks great. Was really looking forward to it. Starter tells us 10 mins and we are 2nd on the tee. All of a sudden 12-15 drunk cronies of his show up and he walks over to tell me we would have to wait until all of them go off. It'll be much quicker since they are "pros". A 150 yd Drive followed by another guy who hasn't hit the fairway in years...not sure what they're pros at but it isn't golf. After a half hour of this I just got my refund and got out of there. Too bad management of this course is such a train wreck. read more

The course was in good condition with the exception of a couple greens. Overall nice course. But the Starter, Mr. Jim Newcomb was just awful to work with. He picks and chooses which "rules" he wants to enforce. One of which is making my friends mother pay $27 just to walk with the group. He would not let us use a cart but we had a group behind and in front of us with a cart. Very abrasive Starter and hard to enjoy a round of golf when it gets off to such an awful start for no serious reason. I will not be golfing here again. read more

Starter/ranger was very rude and mean. Paired me up with a couple to speed us along. Continued to chase after us for not going fast enough. Stirred up some PTSD issues with the guy in my group who served in the Marines. Ruined the night for all of us. If they want faster rounds they shouldn't allow walkers. Basics: $20 for 9 holes, $30 to play through twice, $14 for clubs, $9 for gas powered cart rental, $10 for 12 balls. A steal! No reserved Tee times, just come and play. 11-1pm is the busiest time. You might wait on a nice day for 45 min. Everyone was really helpful and nice. No pretentious people giving you a hard time. This is a great course for novice players who are just out for a fun day. The other players were very nice on what was one of their busiest days of the year. This is a great course for all ages and skill levels for the price. Something like 6 of the nine holes have some view of the ocean. It's beautiful and well maintained. How many public courses have ocean views!? There's some nice long par 5 holes and some fun short holes too. Nicely challenging, nothing spectacular in the way of bunkers or landscaping but very nice. If you've already done the beach this is another fun day in newport. If you're coming from newport over the Jamestown bridge, the exit is immediately after the toll (you cannot be in the easy pass lane to make it) Sign says Jamestown. read more

This is a links style public course on Jamestown, just over the bridge from Newport Rhode Island. The land is gently rolling and many holes have beautiful views of the ocean or Newport Bridge. The course was in great condition when we played in early May 2020. There are only nine holes, but they are full size, and not easy. Would have been fun to play twice. The clubhouse was closed, so can not comment on the food. The staff that we dealt with were quite friendly and helpful. In all, this is one of our very favorite golf courses anywhere in New England. It is THE BEST VALUE, for sure. read more

This is a beautiful well maintained 9 hole public course. You cannot complain when you have views of the water. The man In charge of releasing you out to play is stern but good at keeping ordered when starting. It is always busy here so be prepared to wait. (We waited 45 mins to get on). The speed of the course really depends on who is in front of you. Right now I have time to write a full yelp review between homes due to it being so slow but it's not always like this. We will come back later this week to play again. I hope the back up is not as bad. We have a while foursome still waiting on the 4th hole to go up. read more

The staff at this course was terrible to say the least. The starter/ranger was a scum and abuses his "power" over the green. My group and I have waited on this guy every time we have went to this course and he has the audacity to rush us just so we can get backed up again on this congested course. This same guy told my buddy to move his cart by where we were teeing off even though it wasn't in a place it shouldn't have been. Nonetheless he demanded this in a very rude way by saying "move this sh*t." Talk about educate. On another occasion there was a member of the grounds crew, a old man on a tractor who came up and yelled on obnoxiously about how he was going to throw us off the course because we were going too fast on our carts. I don't see how this is possible as they are governed to a certain speed, a slow speed at that. Not to mention he rode this tractor full speed towards my group and I, talk about hypocrisy. Other than the staff there are a few nice locals that play here and even though the course gets backed up very bad, no one says anything other than the staff even though it's their own doing most of the time. Course is nice but you will run into a few scums along your way! read more

place is a joke. website clearly states the time in which leagues or parties are blocked, yet when you show up outside of those slots, they just change the times however they please. extremely rude staff from the women inside at the clubhouse all the way down to the starter. awful management and honestly they just don't care whatsoever. it's a joke. they make up the rules as they go along, and cater to their friends with zero regard for the regular public. don't bother calling, they're rude on the phone and almost make it seem like they actually don't want your business. it's a convenient place to play, when you can actually get on. the tee time system is antiquated and useless. course is in decent shape but the people are just awful. used to play here on a regular basis for the convenience factor but since the "new" clubhouse has been up, it's been actually worse. they cheaped out on the clubhouse design as well, really did a poor job with the place. it's a shame, used to be a decent place to go but it's just so off-putting with the staff attitudes and overall hospitality. read more

This 9 hole golf course is a fantastic, wide open course that's very fun to play. However, the staff at the course was horrible. When you first check in, the bartender rings you up for your round. The woman who rang our first 9 holes incorrectly told us that we could pay for 18 holes ahead of time, so we thought we got a fair deal on 18 holes. After our first 9, we came in from our round and bought drinks and headed over to the tee box to begin the back leg. The ranger sped behind us and immediately began to scream that we were 'stealing golf' and asked to see out receipt. My friend and I were very calm, and explained what had happened. The ranger was very intimidating and told us that we needed to be 'escorted' back to the clubhouse to see if they wanted to press charges. We then were told by an extremely rude, trashy blonde waitress that her staff didn't tell us anything incorrectly and that we were essentially two delinquents trying to steal. It's safe to say I was taken aback by the attitude and pompousness of this woman as I was a paying customer. I began to try and explain what had happened and this 'waitress' refused to listen to me and threatened to call the police. The ranger began to physically remove us from the club house even as we tried to pay to play or scone nine! Safe to say these people have no idea how to treat a customer. read more

Played this great nine hole course twice and really enjoyed both rounds. The course is very well maintained. Lush fairways, good sand traps and nice greens. This course is built for low key "vacation" golf. The fairways are wide and the hole reachable in regulation with a modest drive. This course does a brisk business even on weekdays. I suggest getting there early. read more

For the money... this course is hands down the best I've played. I don't live in the area but when I'm down that way I make it a point to play this course. The views are incredible, the quaint little town is awesome for dinner after. The course is relatively well maintained. There are beautiful homes lining a few of the holes. The people are typically average, hard working middle class golfers. The clubhouse is nothing fancy but good to get a hotdog and a beer. Overall... good times for cheap dough. read more

This might be a public golf course, but we were highly discouraged from playing because some of us were novice players. The public should be allowed to play at anytime and on any day! Extremely disappointed in how we were treated! Maybe you should consider going private, this way you can shut out who you want! Would have given zero stars, but not an option. read more

I had never played Jamestown til this summer. The course is conveniently located right off Rte. 138 just before the Newport Bridge. It is nicely maintained except for its greens which were in terrible shape the day I played. The course is 9 holes and unfortunately punishes the senior golfer. There is no senior rate, no twilight rate, and no singles rate. This was a triple whammy for me as it cost me $33.00 to play. With the $19 weekday rate plus $14 for a cart (not $7 at most courses) this was exorbitant. For a senior on vacation wanting to play 9 holes after dinner this was a major negative. Also as a senior on a fixed budget I doubt that I will return. read more

A great public course. It is worth the wait as it moves fast and to me feels like a private course when I am playing. Since I am not a beginner but not the best, I find the course challenging. Absolutely horribly managed golf course. Only play here if you like ridiculously long rounds and people that have no clue about golf etiquette. It's a shame because it's a fun little track that is usually in good shape. He girls working behind the bar don't give a rats @$$ about anything related to golf and will let you pay for 9 holes even if there's no chance in hell you'll finish half of them. No twilight rate either. I just walked off the course after playing 4 holes in an hour and a half. Oh yeah, they don't tell you when they aerate the greens but they knock a buck off the rate despite having at least 2 temporary greens in the fairway. What a JOKE of a course. If it wasn't for the old rich hags that play here, this place would die a slow death. The only highlight is being able to take a leak on the rich people's stonewall fence that separates their yard from the 4th tee box. Bottom line: LOOK ELSEWHERE especially if you are here on vacation. Much better courses and values to be had. Peace out Jamestown GC, you pathetic excuse for a golf track. read more

My wife and I are intermediate golfers that like to play about anywhere, and have experienced golf courses both good and bad. Needless to say, this course and the people that manage it are extremely POOR! We attempted to play a round over the July 4th holiday week, 2018 to our great disappointment. The fairways are generally decent, but the greens (and I mean EVERY ONE OF THEM) are horrendous! Large areas of diseased patchy grass with numerous ruts and depressions in between what little grass exists. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! I'm not sure why we were charged $20 ea. "Greens Fee" if none of the "fee" goes into maintaining the Greens? Hmmmmm. Deception at its finest! But then noticing the clubhouse that is literally rotting away (peeling paint and considerable areas of exposed rotted wood), I could see the dilemma. And, oh yes, the clubhouse/bar was not even air conditioned on a 100-degree day (probably broken). I don't know what's going on there, but it appears that the management is running the place like they are planning to sell it! And NOTE TO MANAGEMENT - this property is in a setting far too nice to allow it to degrade to this condition! If you don't know what you're doing, make a quick call to Marcus Lemonis (eg. The Profit) and commit to making the necessary improvements. Until then fellow golfers, I WOULD STRONGLY AVOID THIS PLACE unless you really like paying $20 for nothing more than a driving range that serves warm beer. SHAMEFUL! read more

Great 9 hole golf course! The fairways are wide and there's not much trouble tee to green. But the greens are lightning quick and tricky so even low handicappers will enjoy the challenge. You'll also enjoy the beauty of the surrounding views of rolling farmland and the Pell Bridge. The clubhouse staff is friendly and efficient and the burgers are the best in town! read more

I've never gone into this place and was not greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome. It's family run, and they really show that they care about their guests whether it's out on the course, or in the clubhouse while enjoying their awesome food. Overall a nice course for intermediate golfers...however as a beginner you will feel unwelcome. They don't accept tee times and you will start with 5-10 parties backed up infront of you and the same behind you. A lot of the other reviews say that it moves at a brisk pace, I disagree. We played right behind the foursome infront of us the entire time. When we got to the 7th hole (par 3) I had just taken my second stroke onto the green when a ranger came barreling down the hill in his cart. He shouted to my mother "OH WHAT YOU DONT BELIEVE IN RAKING THE SAND TRAP LADY?!" She never even hit out of the trap... And then he accused me of the same thing... I never hit out of the trap either. (Also, rude... You don't call someone lady unless you're being disrespectful) Then when he saw that he was wrong (there were no marks in the trap) he accused us of taking to many strokes and reminded us that this game is supposed to be played at a brisk pace ( he was yelling the entire time). Now I'm not an expert golfer but I think two strokes to get onto the green on a par 3 hole is pretty ok. Anywho, he again lied and told us the front desk told him to come yell at us, then drove away. We finished playing and talked to the manager at the front desk, he had no idea about anyone calling anyone to come yell at us. He was extremely accommodating however, and apologized for what happened. read more
