We have visited Jamison's three times now; twice in the last month. We showed up once for lunch and once for dinner, both times without reservations. In order to be seated outside, a reservation is needed; that was okay as we were one of only two tables inside at lunchtime. Dinner was much busier; we were unable to make a reservation, as we kept getting the recording that said to call back, so we took our chances. We were a group of 7. The room was pretty full, and none of us would have been comfortable there, but it didn't matter. They gave us a room of our own! As for the food: not one dish was in any way a disappointment, in any of our visits. We all agreed that this restaurant is superb, and will become a regular for us. Dishes we chose included: scallops, burgers, fish and chips (which strangely are served with fries; take my advice and ask for the house-made chips instead! Heaven!), Jr. turkey club, salmon, cream of cauliflower soup, and a pasta dish I can't recall... the person who ordered it loved it, though!). The dessert menu was tempting, but we were quite full. One word about the fish and chips: the very light breading makes it so much better than any other fish and chips we have had, and elevates the dish. Service was well-paced, with drinks served first and a leisurely amount of time for us to enjoy them and each other before the first course was served. We weren't rushed; nor were we ignored. The waitstaff is friendly but not in your face; available when needed, but busy doing their jobs, not hiding in the kitchen. Recommendation: Make a reservation if you can. read more

What a nice find! This restaurant actually lived up to its 4.5 star rating. It has a nice Colonial ambience inside. The wait staff was very pleasant and accommodating. More importantly, the food! From appetizer to desert the food was excellent. One of the best flatbreads I ever had for an appetizer followed with a delicious curry clam chowder. Our meals didn't disappoint, Italian chicken(unbreaded chicken parm) and a truffle burger. We don't usually get dessert, but everything so far was great. So, we went for the Gingerbread in a jar(GB w/ice cream and whpd cream) and peanut butter Grenache cake. We couldn't have been more pleased. Needless to say, we will be back. read more

I love this place. My family dines here regularly, and I've been hesitant to eat here before because I know they don't have any vegan items on their menu. However, everything is easily customizable, and the staff is honest and understanding, always ensuring that I end up choosing something appetizing and satisfying without feeling like I have to compromise. I've dined here twice, the second time on my own, and I ordered the grilled tofu and veggie wrap with mixed greens. Super delicious! Food was overrated. We got the bread with the mascarpone dip as our appetizer. They changed the bread they used which was way too thick, all you could taste with the small amount of dip they give you is the char Marks on the bread. The dinner was okay. My burger was overcooked, bread wasnt toasted. I would have sent it back but our waitress was MIA for the entire night. Once she gave us our menus, she didnt appear back unless it was to bring out food. Thankfully they had a woman that served us water every few minutes otherwise we would have never gotten a refill. There was also a table next to us that just cussed and screamed the entire night who was obviously disrupting the ambiance of the restaurant but management did nothing to remove them. I am going to get soooo much shit for this review from the new future ex, but I "call 'em the way I see 'em". On a beautiful perfect temp weekday night, the new blonde and I headed up the deer-laden country roads to this quaint out of the way renovated historic inn (read: lot's o' stone and wood). Where the service at the bar excelled and the martini was huge, where the beer selection was just OK, the dinner failed for me. The short rib with cavetelli was sooooo murdered with salt, my water retention levels remained at tsunami height for 3 days. The salt overpowered the sauce, the pasta and the disappointingly dry short rib. Overly salted food (and especially soups), in my opinion, means that the base flavors are lacking, they need spark. Sorry, that is way too amateurish. I'll give it another try, though. "She" likes the place and I heard the desserts are good...that's it, I'll go for a martini and dessert. read more

But the food was remarkably average, especially considering the unusually high prices. The missus had veal parm and I had eggplant parm, which had crust on it and had clearly been dug out of a casserole dish, prepared god knows when. Staff less than welcoming, a pretentious vibe. I love restaurants that feature local ingredients, so I felt compelled to give this place a try. The place is beautiful and historical, which I loved. We had a reservation, so when we entered we were seated almost straight away. There was no markings that told us if we were to wait or what (similarly to its sister restaurant). We were sat in the back room, which was quieter, yet chilly. The atmosphere was very nice. We started with drinks, craft beer and sangria. The $8 sangria was below average, so I don't recommend it. Next the waitress brought warm rolls and butter. These were garlic and delicious. We ordered the small spinach salad ($5) and Vietnamese fried chicken ($8) for apps. He enjoyed the chicken, but didn't love it. The salad had spinach, arugula, apple slices, candied nuts, raisins, and gat cheese. The dressing is a lavender green tea which seems like a poor match, although I know lavender and goat cheese pair well. For me, the salad was underdressed or had extremely bland dressing. I feel like the salad would be much better matched with the maple balsamic they make. The arugula in the salad needed a sweeter dressing in my opinion. I had to force myself to eat it. The waitress was not very attentive and did not check on us until I was finished, otherwise I would have asked for extra dressing or a different dressing. For entrees we got the Reuben with fries and the Saffron risotto with almond crusted tofu, roasted acorn squash, kale, and a pesto. The Reuben was good for an reasonable $8. The fries were perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. The risotto paired nicely with the squash. However, the pesto was bitter and the kale was tough to eat. I feel like the citrus in the kale paired with the pesto caused a bitter bite. I truly appreciate that they have tofu on the menu and it was a decent try at creating yummy tofu, but it was bland. It would be better cut in half, seasoned, then crusted. The crust was delightful, and the texture was good. I felt this dish was just okay and because of the flaws, was not worth the $20 price tag. As others have said, the service here was not very friendly and slow. Based on service and a disappointment in our food, we opted out of dessert. They did have some delicious looking stuff though. Overall, I'm sad to say that our meal was a disappointment and we probably will not return. If we do, we'll stick to the pub menu I think. read more

I'm actually thinking it's more like 2.5 star experience, but went with 3 because other visits while sitting at the bar have been better. We came to Jamison's for an early Mother's Day dinner with my in-laws. My husband and I have been there a few times before, but we never got a table, we always sat at the bar. The ascetics are cozy and quaint, farm house-esque. They have a few tables outside under pergola and with some water features, looks great for the warmer days. They were somewhat busy, not packed, but our waitress was MIA for the majority of the 3 hours we ended up spending with them. We started with cocktails and everyone liked their drinks. For an appetizer I started with the waffles and lobster. The lobster was heavily breaded, fried and unfortunately flavorless. :( my husband had the fried oysters, he said they were just okay. The dinner salads arrived about 30 minutes later and oddly they had just about a half a teaspoon of dressing on the salad. None of us like an over dressed salad, but we actually thought they forgot the dressing. We couldn't find the waitress to ask for more so we all ate the extremely dry salad. I guess they figure it's healthier? For an entrée I had the scallops on long grain rice and roasted brussel sprouts. The scallops were small but prepared perfectly. Unfortunately the rice was extremely dry and they appeared to have cut up one brussel sprout and roasted it to its death. It was a very strange dish...couldn't spare a few sprouts? My husband and his Mother both had the fish special with a pineapple salsa. They had the same complaint about the rice, theirs was white rice-very dry. My father-in-law had the steak special (NY strip) that he very much enjoyed. The total came to $230. I do wish I enjoyed my meal more, like I said, we have had better experiences sitting at the bar. read more

While the food was good we had THE RUDIST WAITRESS! She was not only rude to us but two other tables also complained about her. When we brought it to the attention of the manager Steve, he didn't apologize, but said she wasn't rude. I said we would not return because all he had to say was sorry. He didn't say it to us and he made a woman at the other table who complained cry. I don't care if the food was good, the service and attitude of the manager sucked. We stopped in on a whim around 4 PM on a Saturday, looking for a light meal and drinks. They have done a great job renovating this mid- 18th century meeting spot. There's an old plank floor and roomy new wooden tables, dark and light wood everywhere. There were only a couple of other diners and one couple at the bar, which is right there in the main dining room, but the hostess fretted about where she could "put us" and we were seated in a smaller upper room right next to the kitchen doors, which was a bit noisy and distracting. Our supercilious and somewhat inattentive server, Michael, told us about the drink specials which sounded OK -- one was a martini-like concoction called Lynchburg Lemonade -- but we opted for beers. There were about six craft beers on tap, an interesting but small selection, nothing available in bottles. We ordered the roasted cauliflower risotto balls appetizer, and I opted for Vietnamese lettuce wraps and she for the spinach and arugula salad. The risotto balls were excellent. The sauce was a simple Tabasco blue cheese that some how worked really well. There were three meatball-sized risotto balls. Her salad was OK but underdressed; she wanted to ask for more dressing but our server had made himself scarce which was odd since there were so few patrons in this early. I ordered Vietnamese Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps because it sounded like it could be an interesting dish; fried chicken and nuoc cham, along with cilantro, scallions and lime? How would they pull this off? Well they didn't; unfortunately the chicken was McNugget-like, the few scant leaves of lettuce were not fresh, and there wasn't more than a small hint of lime or cilantro so this appetizer was on the bland and boring side. If you look at the menu (it's online) you'll see a lot of different influences: Asian, traditional American (lobster pot pie), French...it's a menu in search of an identity. That's the impression we received overall from this eatery; lots of potential, we may stop back, but can't recommend it to anyone at this point. read more

I cannot say anything negative about Jamison Publick House, even though my kids sometime accuse me of being a negative curmudgeon when it comes to my Yelp reviews. The place is wonderful: quaint, cozy, comfortable and stylish. They have real candles on the tables and in the windows - none of the fake battery operated candles from China. The beer menu has lots of local drafts - the one I chose, based on Heather's recommedation was perfect. Actually, I relied on Heather to choose my meal. The short ribs were out of this world. Even though the portion was large, the flavor was so good, the meat was so tender, the sauce, the pasta, wow - it was all so good, I wanted to lick the plate (but because it is a classy place, I showed self-restraint). JPH is a bit off the beaten track, but I strongly suggest that you beat a path to its door. You will not be disappointed. read more

Tonight was such a disappointment. Our reservation was at 615. We did not order appetizers and our food arrived at the table around 730. We had to ask for my husband's salad and his bread. We had our two children along. One ordered a burger and one order chicken tenders. After complaining and asking for the manager the manager offered to comp a martini. Unfortunately that did not help my children who had to wait an hour and 15 minutes for a burger and chicken fingers. The manager explained that it was not our server but the kitchen who was having difficulties with the fryer. My husbands Delmonico steak was mediocre and his broccoli was hard and room temperature. We have dined here numerous times and unfortunately they are inconsistent. We love their sister restaurant The Limeport Inn and will now make the 10 extra minute drive for good service and consistency. read more

Seriously, delicious everything, and after the birth of each child it's where I wanted to go first for a cocktail. And the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm settling in for a delicious meal after a long day of planning to overthrow the redcoats. Hate because I always forget that everyone else in the Upper Perk valley seems to feel the same way, and if you go without a reservation, it ain't happening. I have been to their other restaurant, The Limeport Inn (which was great!) but this was our first time coming to Jamison Publick House. It was a disappointing experience. We had a reservation at 7:30 and did not receive our food until 9:00pm. It was not super busy or overcrowded so we were a little shocked by that. The food when it did come out was very good. The issue we had was the manager or head chef, Steve, who was seen walking around helping out handled some unhappy customers very poorly. He did not directly address the problem the ladies had and said "unfortunately this is the best its going to get". He walked away and a younger lady who was sitting at the other table next to them came over to speak to them. He marched back over to their table and said " you can go back to your seat, they don't need your help" He then said to the ladies, " I know her don't worry". If you know someone, I am not sure why you would speak to them that way? He continued to speak to the ladies and eventually they left without even having a meal. He came over to our table to apologize but while doing so stated "services is a two way street". Hate to break it to you Steve, you are in the service industry (which I was for years) and you have to act like the customer is always right regardless if they actually are. You should have been apologetic and attempted to make the situation as right as you can. If you cannot interact with your customers in that manner than you should not step outside the kitchen. Regardless of how well "the food speaks for itself" as you stated, we will not be back simply because of how you handled a situation and made several women feel like they were nothing. Our waitress was sweet and apologized for the situation but she should not have to do that. The Limeport Inn seems to have much better reviews, I wonder why? read more

This is the only restaurant I seek out when visiting this part of PA. Everything is always cooked perfectly. Even with a group of 6, there is something on the menu to please everyone. The staff is friendly and attentive without going overboard. While I wouldn't say this is a great place for kids, they were kind enough to make a grilled cheese sandwich for my picky niece. The building and interior is lovely and one of my main reasons for coming here. It's a restored/renovated building and I think they did a great job. read more

We gathered at this Restaurant to celebrate the holidays with some coworkers. I felt that they couldn't have picked a more perfect venue. We had a small corner of the restaurant to ourselves. Servers took very good care of us. The food was amazing the portion size was perfect. Peppercorn ranch dressing was new to me and oh so tasty. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on Saturday. The building is well maintained, and the interior is absolutely beautiful. The food and service was outstanding. My wife and I started with the marscapone-bacon-arugula dip which was fantastic. We had a salad (wherein all the dressings are made in house) which consisted of spring mix, and some excellent and fresh vegetables. For our entree I had the lobster potpie, and she had the trout. My wife (who is incredibly picky about fish) said it was perfectly cooked. The lobster potpie was amazing, well balanced, and loaded with lobster. We decided to splurge and have desert: The special for the night was Guinness Chocolate Cake, and it was AMAZING. She got the banana bread pudding, which was really really great as well. Overall the experience was outstanding. After everything (and a glass of wine for her) the bill came to a little over $70, which was well spent for an outstanding dinner. There is also a full menu of pub food, which looked equally delicious as they were brought out of the kitchen. Love! This place is so cozy and charming, especially since it dates back to 1740. There are two menus. One is typical bar fare, and the other is more elevated. Both menus have very tasty dishes. I had a bay scallop appetizer special that had lovely greens and a yummy sweet bacon jam. A great start! Husband had an unassuming bowl of white bean and turkey chili that tasted like a delicious Thanksgiving dinner thanks to an added cranberry chutney. I had the veal chop, which looked like it came from a cow crossbred with a dinosaur. The thing was huge, but more importantly, properly cooked, sauced and well-rested. No surprises but I was very pleased with proper cooking and seasoning. Husband had braised lamb shanks with a bit of a dry decorative schmear, but yummy nonetheless. The risotto is not a traditional Italian risotto, but it tasted good enough for sustenance. Generous pours of liquor at this place. Wonderful, friendly staff. I've been back already. Outstanding dinner! We got there at five, three of us on a business trip and hadn't really eaten anything since seven am. The lady who contacted us looked very, very hard at the reservation book despite the almost empty dining room, and between that and the farmhouse, unlabeled exterior, we were a little nervous. But the menu looked great, and 4.5 stars on 75 reviews seemed promising enough to see what happened. The interior was charming, great job renewing an old farmhouse. I didn't quite realize how uncommon real candles and fresh flowers have become! The menu looked fantastic as did the cocktails, so we placed our order. I got a sidecar, which was fantastic, and my friends got a beer and a glass of the house Pinot Grigio which the also loved. We ordered the cauliflower risotto balls (3 for a serving, and outstanding!), the crab cakes (two, and perfect to my taste), and one person got the turkey chili, which he said was fantastic. For entrees, I had the shrimp over fettuccine with ramps, oyster mushrooms and garlic butter - absolutely delicious. Perfectly seasoned, perfect portion, very well done!! My friends also loved the flounder stuffed with crab and lobster with quinoa and a lobster red pepper bisque sauce, and a steak with broccoli and mushrooms (subbed broccoli for mashed potatoes - he got literally a full head of perfectly steamed broccoli). The steak looked perfectly done at a nice red but not raw medium rare. (I loved my dish but was jealous of that steak!) We refused the desert menu because we were already quite full (and had spent to our expense limit....) but the meal was quite affordable for the outstanding quality we got, and same with the drinks. $53 for seven drinks, and $120 for three of us with entrees and apps. Excellent evening. The place is really out in the middle of nowhere. Oh...make sure you get a reservation. They filled up pretty quickly on our Friday night visit. We had the Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps for appetizers, they were great - especially the lime zest sauce that went with. I had the burger and my wife had a turkey club. You could really tell the difference in the ingredients they use (the menu claims they're part of the PA Buy Fresh Buy Local program). Finished with a Gingerbread Jar Cake. It had locally sourced vanilla ice cream and apple chunks mixed in with warm gingerbread and whipped cream. Was pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it (neither of us would typically choose that). Will definitely find a reason to go back. read more
