I went not knowing what exactly to expect and I needed a dress for a Gatsby Gala. I was going to receive an award and wanted something other than a flapper dress, slightly formal. When I went in the store the young lady asked what I was looking for and what was the occasion. I explained what I had in mind, she said let me show you a couple dresses, one was a maybe and the other was a no. She showed me the next one and it was perfect, I tried it on and didn't even need to try the other dress. Amazing, I have never gone in a store, brought three items in, tried one on and it was perfect! I then thought, it doesn't have a price and I'm sure it's going to be expensive... but I loved it and told myself I'll pay $300. I asked how much and she looked it up, $125! I'll take it . I also told her and her Mom the owner of the store that I was looking for something for my five year old granddaughter as a shawl, showed her the dress she was wearing to the gala and the owner said wait right here I think I have something perfect. She came back and she was right! Then she was kind enough to give it to us. This store is amazing, I'll definitely go back for another update to my closet. Great selection of quality clothing and a fair price! You can't beat the customer service. A word of caution, pay attention to the parking signs, I parked one block up and didn't see the street cleaning signs. Went in to ask for value guidance on some high end articles - the store was very busy at the time - when there was a pause in the transactions Bettina (the owner) introduced herself - I explained that all I wanted was to ask her expert advice on valuations - she carefully examed each item and even went to her computer to double check the answers - she was very forthcoming and gave great advice (free of charge) - I really appreciated her time and effort / Told my wife of Bettina's kindness and now she is going to visit the store in the future - indirectly The Designer Consigner gained a customer - by the way the store is completely and attractively full of beautiful ladies' clothes and accessories - hope my wife does not spend to much time (and monies) there! read more

Beautiful Chanel suits, fantastic designer jewelry, service was awesome!!! I dragged my 26-year-old son in because he's loves vintage watches. The store is just packed with tons of designer vintage awesome looking gorgeous Chanel suits and coats. I just had my second visit and won't be back. Despite there being 3 people working there and only other customer whom one of those people was chatting up like an old friend, no one so much as acknowledged my presence. On my first visit, when I bought a cute dress, there was a whole group there for a birthday party outing. I similarly was ignored then but figured it was because they were so busy. read more

This shop is very laid back and loungey, a bit untidy. The clothing quality is very good, although not immaculate. What's great: nice people who are willing to help you find what you want if you've got the time. They have a few specialty corners in clothing so do ask. Their prices are pretty on par for San Francisco. They are fair with sellers (I've bought and sold) . So do go see them, they are the nice people on Sacramento Street! read more

Such a gem and a great place to find the most interesting pieces. The store has been around for 30+ years and it's family owned. Most of the cloths are from the fancy pac heights homes. I really suggests walking in and browsing. Well priced items which the majority are designer. Nether finds than going into an estate sale. read more

This family run shop is THE high end consignment shop in San Francisco. When shopping for a gala or a collection, this is the number one phone call you have to make. I spent a lovely afternoon perusing the clothes here. The space isn't huge (it's SF), but I still found plenty of options to try on. I ended up getting a vintage Shanghai Tang dress for $75, a Van Leeck shirt for $75, and a Lululemon hoodie for $45. I liked that some of the pieces were from designers you don't see at a lot of consignment stores. read more

Excellent brand names and quality! My little sis was here visiting from Nashville, and found both her activewear and a beautiful Chanel dress for a good price. Weird that this store has such low reviews. Sales folks I spoke to were helpful and friendly, and the selection is quite a mix! You'll find Lucky Jeans on the $5 rack, some newer styles mixed in with outdated ones, some high-end designer items...which makes this a fun place to go hunting for deals! This is continued from 7/10/23. The first time they told me they will mail the check was on 6/9/23 after I called and found out they sold my booties. On 7/1 I was told they mailed another check. On 7/6/23 I called and was told to wait a few more days as it was a holiday weekend. Today is 7/12 and there is still no check. I live in the same city and rarely, if ever saw mail lost. I will go in tomorrow and ask for a check to be issued. read more

They were a little snooty when they went through my freshly dry-cleaned clothes, then tardy in paying me. And then when I picked up my stuff that didn't sell, part of a cashmere 2-set was missing. I got this lame explanation that "sometimes it happens" that stuff gets lifted from their store and they didn't seem to care (nor reimburse me). So now I have a cashmere cardigan missing its expensive, matching sleeveless shell. Uh, thanks. Wish I'd taken the tax deduction instead. read more

I'm really torn about whether to go back here. On the plus side, the few times I've gone, there's some really cool, fashion-forward stuff. For my type of artsy, bohemian taste, much more interesting than most of what's at GoodByes down the street. On the other hand, I got treated SO rudely by customer service here that I don't know if I would go back. I'm not a delicate flower, but I was almost in tears by the time I left. I walked in and the saleswoman was in a VERY animated and loud conversation with a customer who also appeared to be a friend. I said hello but got no response. I found a bunch of items and asked if I could use a dressing room. NO response so I just piled it all into the room. Then kept coming out to check the mirrors. At one point I asked if there was an extra mirror so I could see my back and the saleslady looked at me like "WHY the HELL ARE YOU INTERRUPTING MY CONVERSATION?" Their loudness continued for the entire time, and I was so completely ignored I was almost laughing. Ironically, I'd gotten a $1000 windfall that day and was in the mood to spend. But due to the extreme rudeness, WHY the hell would I want to spend money there, even tho there was a lot that was lovely. (Vivienne Tan, Custo, some belts, ...really cool). I honestly wanted to just leave without spending a penny, but I'd found a purple cashmere sweater for $30 I couldn't leave behind. And then get this: After half an hour of trying on stuff, and listening to their whole endless blasting conversation, I then literally STOOD at the COUNTER holding my credit card to pay while the saleslady CONTINUED TALKING to her pal! Now THAT has to be a first. I mean, No one is in the store but the three of us. It was so freakin rude and oblivious, I was actually almost laughing more than angry. . "Do you really not care at all? Do you not even want to let me buy this? " I asked. She mildly apologized and said, "Oh yeh, I guess I shouldn't be doing this." I said, "Really, it's just so completely rude. I would have bought many things today if you'd given me even two minutes of time." "Well, I'm sorry you felt that way," she said defensively, starting to read the messages on her phone. It's weird, I think in 20 years of shopping in San Francisco, I've NEVER, EVER encountered a ruder saleswoman. And yet the clothes there can be good. Is it worth the trouble?. Will I ever go back? I always walk out of Designer Consigner with multiple fun pieces that I am so excited to wear. The clothes are consigned/used, but I would never be able to tell as they are all in such great condition. I got a cashmere sweater for a great price and have gotten so much wear out of it. For the buyer, there's more on "mature" larger-sized side like Chanel and St. John with a smattering of more youthful labels, and the owner and her team are pleasant and helpful. For the seller, they're not as organized as one would like, especially when it comes to cutting checks and don't seem to like to pay very regularly. Also, they price the items themselves and keep 60%! which is 10% more than most places. They don't do a very good job of styling and displaying and they have two stores (plenty of space). Unlike in the Mission, all these places in Pac Heights and Presidio Heights are a little weird about payment. I guess it's true what they say about the rich; they have so much because they hold on tight to it. read more

I am SO impressed with not only the selection, but the outstanding service! This place caught my eye with its two $5 racks outside. Coincidentally, I had spent the past several hours @ Nordstrom Rack sleuthing through racks for nice dress pants, reasonable in price for a graduate student's budget; as you might guess, I left Nordstrom Rack without purchasing any slacks. As I looked through the two organized $5 racks @ the designer consigner, I literally filled my arms 3x with AMAZING designer SLACKS! + incredible service from the young gal (name starts with a B..sorry for forgetting so soon!!) I left with FIVE pairs of dress pants (Theory, BCBG, Banana Republic, Talbots, and YSL), 1 pair of Paige jeans, and 1 adorable dress shirt (selected by the associate upon my request; not at all pushy!!), priced at $25. All in mint condition. ***if you accidentally missed it ^^^, I got YSL pants in MINT condition for $5.00. **P.S. - those Theory pants I mentioned were at Nordstrom Rack for $79 (originally $250). I bought these same pants here for $5- I saved about 94% off of the Rack price!!!) I spent about $50 here for 7 items. Incredible. I'm going back today--shopping for blazers! Ladies, even if you miss the $5 rack, their prices are incredible and extremely REASONABLE. (I tried on a Theory pant suit priced at $110!!) read more

I have mostly been doing business with Designer Consigner by bringing items in, and I appreciate the fact that they only take items that are in 100% tip top condition. A tiny hole, a missing button, one pulled thread is unacceptable so that you know that if you go into buy, you're getting an item that is in very good shape. I think the most of the saleswoman are really nice and fair. Brenda is a doll and Cheryl is very professional. I had a temporary problem at this store a year ago, and Cheryl was very professional and kind in the way she handled it. I rarely shop there because I already have too many clothes, but from what I see they have a nice selection and i KNOW they are in tip-top shape. read more

Smaller selection but it's worth not having to wade through piles of old crap to get to the diva stuff. Chanel haute couture section (yay) and the shoes are nicely displayed. This place is kind of small but boy does it pack a punch. From Talbots to Chanel, there's something for everyone. I came in 30 minutes before closing and walked out with a CoSTUME NATIONAL pant suit for $5. That's FIVE BUCKS! Hell I can't even find clothing that cheap at Goodwill. Great selection (although the shoes are too big for me) Friendly service (the girl working that day was super helpful and really nice) Great location (this street is a mix of residential and small boutiques, so cozy) And that my friends is what makes this a 5-star place. read more

I went to The Designer Consigner for the first time yesterday afternoon after I had been to some other places (Good-byes, Cris) and let me just say, I wish I'd ONLY gone to DS. After finding absolutely nothing cute at Good-byes and Cris, I bought three items at the DS. The total before tax was exactly $100 and I got three items that I am really excited about: a grass green knit sweater with asymetrical zipper (fabulous), a J Crew tweed blazer (could be worn to work or elsewhere--very smart looking jacket), and a light colored denim jacket (blazer style, looks nice and worn in, will be a go-to spring jacket). There was also a blue Ralph Lauren blazer with big gold buttons on display which I loved, but it was a size too small. Consignment is always hit or miss and you frequently have to patiently look through a bunch of crap to find one or two jewels. I can honestly say this place is well-worth the time spent. read more

Eh, it's ok. Lots of good labels here, but most of the items were old, like 10 years old and dated. (You can check release dates on the tag next to the care instructions) My 65 year old Mom found some items she was thrilled with, I however did not. I really like the range of the labels in this boutique. There's things like St John & Babette for the more mature woman. Cute "younger" labels like Free People and Nanette Lepore (my personal favorite). Aaaaand, things for the label whores like Chanel, Jean Paul Gautier, Prada, etc. This shop is pretty good about being reasonable about prices. Good consignment shop in Laurel Heights. Not as high end as the store near union square on sutter. Got a great pair of never been worn (or if they had, lightly used) black open toe pumps. $30. It costs me $30 bucks to get shoes cleaned up and a new sole to be put on, so I was pretty happy with my $30 new pair of black shoes that I am sure the streets of San Francisco will enjoy ripping apart. Like many consignment stores, it's all about a magic moment. On any day at any given hour, your dream bag or shirt may appear on a rack. I think one must have patience to play the consignment game, and if you're in a hurry, it's no fun. I have been "playing" for years and enjoy my visits to both here and the one down the road. This year so far, I've bought two fantastic pairs of shoes at this location; one pair barely worn, the other brand new. They were priced extraordinarily and I am very happy with them. I have always found the staff to be friendly and approachable upon walking in. I work near by this consignment shop and I LOVE this store! My favorite clothing store in the entire neighborhood. Brenda, (the owner) and Cheryl (sales staff)are wonderful. They are patient and helpful. I can't afford the prices in the other stores on Sacramento Street where only new clothing is sold. Way over my price range. I've found great deals at The Designer Consigner, such as purple suede boots, really lovely sweaters, blouses, scarves etc. The place is clean and comfortable - unlike other stores win this hood - where there are too many racks jammed together = horrible cramped space. I feel good when I can purchase a high quality, well made, special piece here where I couldn't even touch it if i bought it a department store downtown. They also have an adorable little dog and i like dog friendly shops. Non pretentious but knowledge staff. It's nice to support a nice store. read more

I feel compelled to write a review because of the horrible customer service I received here. I find it APPALLINGLY rude when I hear sales staff talking about customers in a store. It's even worse when the customer in question is you. As I was leaving the store, a sales assistant even stopped me and attempted to search my purse!! I took a pair of Manolo Blahniks to this shop several months ago because they were THE. MOST. UNCOMFORTABLE... pair of shoes I've ever worn. Fast forward to this summer... sitting around watching old Sex & the City episodes, and it occurred to me that I never got a check.
