Since I wear dailies, I was creating a lot of waste I had never realized could be recycled. I saved up a huge bag, then brought them to my annual eye exam at a clinic in Oakland, where they told me they only recycle the packs from a single (different) manufacturer. After an extensive online search, I learned that ABO recycles all the brands, and was happy to accept mine even though I'm not a patient. Very grateful and impressed! Since they also take my VSP insurance, I may have my next exam at ABO.

To start off, the eye exam was probably the most informative and best I've ever had. I felt she was the most thorough optician I'd ever worked with and left feeling much more knowledgable about my eyes. The issues arose with everything else. Because at the time everyone was required to wear masks everywhere it honestly took a few months to realize how poorly my chosen glasses fit without a mask. Not very long after the lenses started developing an odd bubbling around the edges of the lenses, which only got worse each month. Because we're not local any longer, I decided just to replace them outright and re-ordered the same frame by email, making a special trip to pick them up. I put on the glasses, which should have been exactly the same (just no bubbling and tighter fitting), and let them know immediately there was something wrong with them. Historically at other offices, I've usually put in exactly the same frame/prescription order (once I decide on a frame I stick with it until they stop making it) and I've never had any issues with the replacement. Even with a new prescription, I've never had any major reactions. But these glasses were different, something visually was off. Everyone in the office told me they were exactly the same, they checked the prescription, it's the same. I try them on several times and continue to state they're not, there's something wrong with them. They convince me to keep them for an adjustment period. So I put them on and head home, and after getting back home and getting on my phone, I quickly get a really strong ocular migraine (it's been years since I had one) which results in an almost total loss of vision. I finally take off the new glasses, and switch back to my old ones, and poof - my migraine fades. My head still hurts and is incredibly sensitive, but I call them once my vision clears enough to dial. I state I'd like a refund and that there's something wrong with the glasses. They interrupt me, speak over me, and downplay the issue, telling me to keep trying. By the end of the phone call, everything I say has been ignored, so I agree to try them on again in a month when I'm out of school. The back of my head continues to hurt for about two days, so I'm very hesitant to try again. Fast forward to a month later, I try again, and headache. So I email them that I'd like to mail the glasses back, because (as I'd explained to them over the phone) it would cost me half of what a new pair would cost just to Uber out to see them. Again, they ignore my request and ask that I come in. I'm not sure why, after interrupting and gaslighting me, they think I would come back. The fact that they ignored my very clear "something is wrong" and denied there was any issue? Although I had a good experience with the optician, there is absolutely no way I would return to Your Two Eyes Optometry. I later scheduled in an appointment with another optician and purchased another set of glasses (with a prescription change) that I paid for out of pocket. When I tried them on they seemed blurry in the right eye. When I relayed this to the front desk, they tested where my pupils landed and found they hit too high on the lenses. Instead of being told to take them home and "get used to them", they tested them, discovered the issue, returned them, and sent away for a fix. I really can't stress enough how problematic the service at Your Two Eyes since was. Especially since once I received my new pair from the different optician, I've had no issues at all while wearing them. No headache, no migraine, nothing. It's my opinion that both sets of glasses from Your Two Eyes were defective as the old pair I'd been wearing? After switching to my new glasses I accidentally left them next to the shower overnight and the next day the transitional lenses film had peeled off entirely from the lenses! I've never seen anything like it before in my life. The fact that I had major issues with both sets of glasses, when I've never had any type of issues with my glasses before leads me to the opinion there is likely a problem with their source's manufacturing practices. So between that and the service, as much as I liked the optician, I can't recommend in good conscience getting glasses from Your Two Eyes Optometry.

The receptionist was polite at first and asked for my date of birth, the last four digits of my Social Security number, and my first and last name. She then claimed she could not find my information and told me to call VSP. I immediately contacted VSP. They found my information within minutes. A VSP representative then placed me, Solano iCare, and VSP on a three-way conference call and even provided the office with an authorization number. The office asked us to wait while they verified everything. After waiting for about 30 minutes with no response, I called back. Later, a man who identified himself as the office manager called me. Instead of explaining what had happened or apologizing for the delay, he said, "I overheard your conversation with our staff. I don't think you're a good fit." He then told me to go to another eye care office on Solano Avenue. I was shocked. Throughout the entire process, I remained polite and respectful. I never yelled, never argued, and never used inappropriate language. Yet I was rejected without any factual explanation. Simply telling a patient, "I don't think you're a good fit," after they worked with their insurance company to resolve an administrative issue is both unprofessional and disrespectful. This was not a medical decision. I never even saw the doctor. I was turned away by the office manager without being given any legitimate reason. Afterward, I contacted VSP Customer Service to report the incident. I was informed that they would investigate the office, and that if my complaint is substantiated, the practice could face consequences regarding its participation in the VSP provider network. I cannot comment on the doctors because I was never allowed to see one. However, based on my experience with the office management, this was one of the most frustrating and disrespectful customer service experiences I have ever had in a healthcare setting. Patients deserve professionalism, transparency, and respect. Unfortunately, I experienced none of those from the management of this office.

One thing I'd recommend is getting your glasses elsewhere, though. While her office, Albany-Berkeley Optometry, has a great selection, the opticians aren't the best, with both my wife and I having problems with them. My recommendation is to have Dr. Verdon do your prescription and then head on over to the City to Hayes Optometry for the glasses -- they essentially have the same selection, but with better opticians.

I have a high prescription and there are some eye health concerns that can come along with that. They always are tracking and educating me about them. I've had to get a recheck once, and it was free. I had to send back a pair, it was free. I have had optometrists in the past who just say "oh you'll get used to it." There is never any fuss about it at UCB.They want to get it right for you. Because they are educating new optometrists, they work very hard at teaching them how to use insurance to get the cheapest lenses. I've gotten lenses that cost half of what they did anywhere else. They just cannot be beat!
