I received my annual eye exam at West County Optometry, and my experience was extremely…read moredisappointing. The first issue occurred when I was billed for a test that I never received. Although the office eventually refunded the charge, no apology was offered. After the exam, I used the prescription provided by West County Optometry to order two pairs of glasses from another optical provider: progressive sunglasses and protective sports glasses for pickleball and biking. I went elsewhere because West County Optometry did not carry the protective eyewear I needed. When I picked up my glasses, the optical provider discovered that the prescription from West County Optometry contained a significant error. The optometrist had entered the wrong sign on the prescription, making both pairs of lenses unusable. As a result, the lenses had to be remade at a cost of $558. Because this mistake caused me to lose confidence in the accuracy of the original exam, I paid for a second eye exam with the optometrist at the optical provider. That exam cost an additional $95. Despite the prescription error, West County Optometry has refused to reimburse me for the expenses I incurred as a direct result of their mistake. What concerned me even more was a manager's statement that it is "not uncommon" for an eye exam prescription to be incorrect. I am now pursuing reimbursement through small claims court. Based on my experience, I would not recommend West County Optometry.

I have been looking for a good optometrist for a very long time. In fact, I don't remember having…read morea good optometrist other than the one I had in 5th grade so it's been a long time coming. Janet Chan is warm, gentle and exudes kindness. She was able to figure out my exact prescription very efficiently (usually it takes a lot longer) but she seems more competent than the average optometrist in her ability to arrive at the prescription strength for my glasses. Her office staff particularly the girl who helped me locate glass frames were good at finding something I liked. I essentially found a pair of frames that was covered 100 percent by insurance and for the lens, I brought all the bells and whistles including UV protection (transitional lens), glare and scratch resistance, thin lens and the latest reading/distance glasses which added up to 400 dollars and my last pair of glasses was more than a 1000 dollars. Hopefully I will like the final product in a few weeks. So far, I am glad to have found such a great optometrist in my neighborhood thanks to the referral one of my co-workers gave me recently.

The waiting room was spacious with an abundance of seats and exceptionally clean. Prior to my appointment, I was given a thorough questionnaire about my eye and general health. I appreciated this because it demonstrated an interest in the patient's health as a whole, instead of focusing solely on the eyes. I have been to other specialists who haven't taken much time to consider any other health issues, but being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition has completely changed my outlook since that diagnosis has impacted my eyes. I knew even before I had met with Dr. Anaya, that I was going to be in good hands. When it was my turn to go, I was both greeted, and escorted, to the office space where my eyes would be examined. The staff here was very kind and explained everything thoroughly during my pre-exam. This was especially important since I had always been nervous about getting prescription contact lenses (despite using color ones in the past), but the staff here and Dr. Anaya had made me feel comfortable and answered all of my questions. Dr. Anaya took the time to answer all of my questions about my eye health, contact lenses, and thoroughly explained my eye's health to me as well. I have worn glasses for years, and I have never had a more comprehensive and thorough exam! It made me feel as though I knew where my eye health was standing, which gave me more confidence and relief than when I had first entered the office! I appreciated Dr. Anaya's recommendations for my eye health, hearing good news is always priceless. Even knowing my eye health was looking good, Dr. Anaya had validated my concerns and was very reassuring. After getting fitted for contact lenses, I went to update my prescription for glasses. I had just gotten glasses the year before, but they had given me a much weaker prescription and corrective lenses - both, weren't doing my eyes any favors! In the end, I was able to try on glasses until I found the perfect pair. The woman who was helping me find my glasses gave me awesome recommendations since I knew what type of frames I had wanted. I ended up loving her selections and left feeling excited and confident about my new glasses' arrival. Everyone here is so kind and attentive and you are guaranteed excellent, informative, care.

She also found out about my eyes that I didn't know that my previous optometrist never told me. Dr. Chen wanted me to come back in a week to dilate my eyes; however I wasn't able to come in the days that she worked due to my work schedule. I appreciate that Dr. Chen was able to fit me in on a weekend despite being fully booked so I could get my prescription I needed for my contacts. I highly recommend coming here to get your eyes checked and Dr. Chen is an amazing optometrist. Downfall of this place is that there is NO reception so don't expect to be able to browse the internet while you wait for your appointment.

If you try to make an appointment online by clicking their emails that remind you to, they say they'll call you and they never do. The only way to do it is to call them. It's weird that they give you the option to get a call back but never do. The front desk doesn't really make eye contact when you go, and are a bit cold. I guess that's fine, but it is a stark contrast to the friendliness of the doctors and such. Overall, I would recommend.
