For those of you not in the know. Rocketship park is a well known secret in Torrance where the…read moreplayground's in the name. This is one of the few parks where fun trumps safety in terms of the playgrounds. As in, it's old school metal with zero safety measures so if you fall and hurt yourself, that's on you for not being athletic enough. Anyway, this park overlooks Torrance and on a clear day, you can see as far as DTLA if not further. In terms of the park itself, the rocketship playground is incredible, especially if you're a kid. You can climb up almost... I dunno, 20 feet or so and pilot your very own metal rocketship. If that's too scary, they have standard playgrounds around it too. It's a small park but a beautiful one that almost never gets crowded given its isolated location. One of my dreams was to ride swings with my partner here and well, safe to say it was fulfilled with many more dreams to come to fruition.

The bleachers near the baseball field were typical of the other Redondo Beach parks...comfortable enough to sit on for a couple of hours. But no shade, so wear a hat and sunglasses. There was an enclosed senior center also. Didn't get to see inside, but it's a nice benefit for the residents.

I found plenty of free street parking across the street and all around the neighborhood instead. After nearly getting hit by a car a few times and getting approached by an intoxicated looking homeless or two, we finally made it to the park. And then that's when we discovered that the place is NOT DOG FRIENDLY. Omg! At first, I thought I saw the signs wrong and had to actually go up close to it. I also witnessed a bunch of other dog owners walking around the park with their dogs but many had them not leashed. That's when it dawned on me why the park has a no dog allowed policy. It's honestly very infuriating when people are so blatantly disrespectful about park policies and other people's safety. Not to mention the dog shit everywhere that really shouldn't have been there. Ugh. And that was enough of LA County shenanigans for me that day.

The only down fall to this park is there is no bathroom but overall it's a fun park to visit for sure! There are benches and nice grassy area to hang or have a snack.

There are lots of high and climbable structures. The grassy area is huge so kids can roam freely. The grassy area is hilly but there are flatter areas that are good for picnics too. They have picnic tables and there is plenty of parking. There's a tennis court, baseball field and bathrooms. It feels private and is away from traffic/cars. The bad: The parking lot is gravel/dirt so it can get pretty dirty with puddles on a rainy day. The interesting: There are hills surrounding it with homes. You can also see horses. There are also a lot of crows. You need to fill out a park permit if you're hosting an event here with 20+ people.

Polliwog is the largest park in all of the South Bay and a great park for a walk. They've got a…read morelarge pond - watch out for all the Canadian geese and watch your step for um some nature droppings. They have several playgrounds, picnic areas and gazebos. Note - Manhattan Beach is pretty strict with large parties at the park- so you will need to reserve if you're hosting a party. Overall it's a fun park that's a perfect spot for picnics, nature sight seeing and chill days.
