So my mom got a cake from Janet's for my engagement party and asked for a simple cake with white icing and a light white ganache drip. Nothing complicated. My mom asked for flowers on the top and was told they don't do that and that they "hate Pinterest." Pinterest is where a lot of people get ideas and I understand that some people might walk in asking for very complicated things because of Pinterest but this was a round cake with a drip. Nothing fancy. Anyway, We said we'd put the flowers on ourselves, just do the simple drip. We go to pick up the cake and the drip is pieced together and sloppy. It looked tacky and you could tell they did not know what they were doing. I also don't think they tried to look up how to do it because it was not a ganache drip. They tried to create the dip using icing which I think was the entire issue. I see these cakes everywhere and they all look so much better than the cake we got from Janet's. Thankfully, the flowers we placed on the top drew your eyes away from the drip. I'm happy to report that the cake tasted good and no one noticed the pieced together drip once we put the flowers on but I was disappointed by the service at Janet's will not be returning if I want anything more than a simple, traditionally iced cake. read more

Yesterday I picked up an 8" round lemon cake with raspberry filling and it was awful. The cake was old and very dry and hardly tasted of lemon. When I call the bakery to tell them about the cake the only thing the bakery employee kept saying to each of my complaints was "ok". Very disappointed and will not recommend. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place has declined over the years. It's not their old, outdated cake designs. It's not the lack of cleanliness. It's the rude and terrible customer service. Don't bother taking anything back if it has a weird taste or isn't fresh because you will be welcomed with an ugly attitude and the lady at the front snatching it from you and chucking it to the trash before you can explain what's wrong. Janet's cakery cakes are beautiful always, but every time I have eaten one of their cakes it is just a bit too dry and their buttercream has a grit to it, like it hasn't been mixed enough. The cakes taste good, they're just not as moist as other places. read more

Being from Austin and looking for a cake place and/or person, I came across this place and boy am I so glad! We needed to find a quick cake already made and I love how they have them ready to go. Not too many places have cakes available unless you order days ahead of time amd we didnt want a grocery store cake. You can add decorations for a few extra dollars. I went to Janet's today for the first time and sadly I believe it may be my last. I want to approach this with sensitivity as I know the situation is a topic I'm sure many don't wish to speak on. However, when I went in today there was a man (who I now learned was the owners son) who in lack of any other terms- sexually harassed me in the lobby. When I came in he approached me and I said hello and shook his hand and politely moved aside for him to pass;however, he did not pass and kept pushing himself very close to me. He then reached out and was touching my legs, butt, arms and reaching for my chest and I asked him to not do that, he continued by then touching himself inappropriately and looking at me while showing me his erection through his shorts. The woman at the register could see this happening and did nothing to help and neither did anyone else in the lobby. Because of how uncomfortable I was I do not think I will return to Janet simply for the lack of care they gave to me. I learned later as well this has happened to several woman both employed at Janet's and as customers and management has done nothing about it as they state "he is unaware what he is doing due to his disability". I don't think anyone has spoken openly on this therefore I felt it necessary to do so myself. Sorry Janet's..your cakes are good enough for this. read more

Working in the event decorating business for many years I've had the opportunity to work with many people in charge of entertaining party guests. Working "backstage" of big wedding productions, you get to experience and witness their job performance, attitude, how well they handle stress and so on... I've heard many good reviews about Janet's Cakery from clients and friends and wedding cakes are they're speciality. So, today I decided to give them a visit to try their mastery. As soon as I walked I noticed a few people cake shopping and also witness a meeting for a wedding cake, which to me it was a good sign and just enhance my shopping experience, although there are no prices listed for any of their cookies, cupcakes, etc. not very long after browsing around for a few minutes, a really nice lady helped me with prices and showed me many options of cookies. I tried the plain chocolate chip cookies and was very satisfied with the flavor and the consistency (I always prefer soft cookies over crunchy which are also delicious) all freshly made. I've had their cake before and both bread and decoration are impeccable. To me it's just very impressive how every single item that's is made, has the same homemade taste every time. Overall experience was very satisfying, the employees are very friendly (they make delicious cakes for a living, why wouldn't they be happy...), and there's hardly any wait. The organization of the store could use some improvement, they have a lot of unused space where they can be displaying more cakes, they also need better window displays and a little more creativity with the store decoration and placement of what they're trying to sell as well as the price issue. For our wedding reception in Austin, my husband demanded the groom cake come from Janet's. I spoke with Joy over the phone and she was able to understand exactly what I wanted. The cake was picked up over 24 hours before the ceremony and transported to Austin by our family members. Yet the cake was amazingly moist and delicious!! First, let me start by saying I used to love this place. I bought my wedding cake and many other cakes for other occasions over the years. We decided to order cup cakes for my nephew's birthday last weekend. When I called to order, I ordered chocolate cup cakes and told the person the party was on Sunday to which they replied they were closed Sunday and we would have to pick them up Saturday before 5. We planned our whole day around picking up these cup cakes on time and when we got there the cup cakes were vanilla. We explained we ordered chocolate and also noticed they are open Sunday and later Saturday than we were told. The lady apologized and said she would fix this and to come back Sunday. We came back Sunday on our way to the party and these cup cakes were HORRIBLE! They tasted like they were a week old! So very disappointed and we will NEVER buy from there again and neither will any of our party goers. So sad because Janet's used to be the best in my opinion. read more

We ordered a small German chocolate cake for a special occasion. I called in the order about a month before the event. On the day I drove to pick it up, I started getting a little worried they might forget my order because I had been too busy to call and touch base with them the week of the event. It was a cute bakery. I came here with one of my older sisters because she ordered a cake for my nephew's graduation/finishing up his phlebotomy class from Coastal Bend College in Beeville. It's was a small little party. The cake had painted pictures of needles and blood. It wasn't as graphic as it may sound, it actually was cute and cartoonish. I had never been to this place and my sister said we had to come down all the way from Beeville to get the cake here. Of course in my mind, I'm thinking, we have bakeries in Beeville. Why drive all the way down to Corpus Christi to get a cake? That was my thought. But honestly, I'm glad she drove me down with her, because I got to check out a really cute bakery. I ordered a carrot cake from this bakery yesterday for my husband's birthday and it was awful!! The cake was really dry and not to mention ugly! It basically said " happy birthday" to my husband in the ugliest writing. My 1st grader could of done a better job. There was a blue border around the bottom and that was it! I paid $24 dollars for a small 8 inch round cake and expected sooo much more. I didn't have a choice but to take the cake because i coudn't find another on such short motice. If I could give no star I would. Just left there right now to cancel a cake that was for a 15. Cake was not going to be made until august. its June. I had put down 190 already. My sister found a cheaper cake some where else for a cheaper price and asked me to cancel. went by to cancel well the lady Janet says they are only giving me 50 dollars back. That its their policy. I get it, we signed that's fine but the cake was 2 months away hadn't even started on it. I would under stand if the cake was already done and we made her do all that work and we canceled last min. All she had done for us was write down what my niece wanted. Most expensive piece of paper I've ever seen. No class No sympathy no nothing. I feel robbed from 140 dollars. I guess that's how she keeps the doors open. I work everyday with hundreds of locals I go into their houses and I work with hundreds of businesses and trust me from here on out I will make sure everyone knows this story. Keep the 140.
