    Apple Strudel
    Stephanie K.

Not quite Fredericksburg, but absolutely exquisite German food in South Texas, worth resetting the sugar fast. A traditional Apple Strudel has tender pie crust folded with still barely crunchy sections of apple and tender raisins scented with cinnamon and a dusting of powdered sugar. It's beautiful as it is delicious! The cappuccino pairing may have whole-fat milk, an extra indulgence on your way back inland. Daily lunch specials run Tuesday through Sunday, offering a broad selection of other hearty German faves as temperatures drop.

    German Breakfast Platter for Two

Wow! The German Breakfast Patter for Two was fantastic! We're going back before we leave the area. Great services, great food, tucked in a little out of the way strip mall. Don't leave without getting some baked goods to take home! Highly recommend the Ginger Bread.

Once you open the door, it's pure heaven. I highly recommend the strudels and pastries. I had the Reuben with turkey. It was soooo good. The guy at the counter was very quiet yet helpful. The entire place gives a Germany vibe.

You cannot skip on the stuff schnitzel! I ordered to go and it was the best decision I could have made! The curry was SO flavorful. Wonderful place with excellent service.

Nice little morning find. Looking for a good breakfast and happened upon JB's German Restaurant. Nice and quiet this morning and perfect chance to relax, enjoy some coffee and eat a delicious breakfast. I ordered up the chef omelette which was pretty yummy and filling. They started me off with a couple sweets which were also great. I didn't partake in any baked goods but the bakery selection looked great. Next time!

    Swiss Schnitzel with Spatzle

Good German food for a fantastic price! JB's is located on Staples and Everhart next to the ER and Walgreens. There is a bakery inside with lots of variety. You will find fresh baked bread, pretzels, quiche, kolaches, and an assortment of German pastries and sweets. I have tried the pretzel buns and apple custard pastry and they were both good. We have come here twice now and the food has been consistent. Here is what we ordered: Swiss Schnitzel with Spaetzle - Generous sized fried pork schnitzel smothered in gravy and swiss cheese. The side of spaetzle is a German dumpling/pasta. Both are tasty and very filling. Jager Schnitzel with Bratkartoffeln - Another large pork schnitzel, this one covered in mushroom gravy and a side of German style "hashbrowns" that had bacon with it. Only problem with both schnitzels was the fryer oil aftertaste. The oil was much too dark and could be tasted. Bratwurst in a Bun - One bratwurst sliced in half served on a baguette bun with mustard. Taste good but the bratwurst seems pretty small for the $6. The decor is outdated and could use a face lift. Our server was great but very busy due to lack of workers. The prices are great and it is hard to find an authentic German restaurant priced affordably. Very nice mom and pop shop.

Good and service were amazing! They bring out little samples of their strudel and the other breakfast sandwiches were delish!

Five stars for family owned in most unique category. Real german bakery & restaurant in South Texas where tacos and BBQ reign supreme. This bakery / restaurant serves good breakfast / lunch. Big bonus that you can pick up bakery treats and bread on the way out. Operating a family owned bakery and restaurant is a ton of work. Early days, late nights, no time off. Kudos to the family and their team for making this happen. Good family owned restaurants are so much work, they rarely last too long. It's just very hard to keep the pace. It looks like this has been going for many years, congrats. I don't have much experience with german food. Everything I had was very good and I will be back next time I am in CC.

I've seen this restaurant a couple times when in Corpus, but it was closed every time we went by - this was perfect timing. They brought us some samplings of the different pastries they offer and all were delicious and amazing. Our main entrées were typical breakfast plates eggs over easy German schnitzel, homestyle potatoes, all very good and reasonably priced. This is in my must visit column when I go to the beach.

Great find for breakfast. I got the breakfast sampler and everything was great! Great service. Even received 3 complimentary pieces of struedel. We got the raspberry and blueberry struedel to go for later.

JB's German Restaurant and Bakery is DEEELICIOUS! In fact, it was so good we had to come back the next day to try more items on the menu as we were leaving Corpus that day. What a gem of a find! The first day we came for breakfast, and got the Farmers breakfast and German Burrito. The German Burrito is a German crepe (pfannkuchen) wrapped around an egg omelet and bratwurst. It was so so good and a perfect combination! Our toddler loved it as well. By the time we ate our food it was almost 10:30am, and since I was still a bit hungry they let me order from the lunch menu. I got the schnitzel and we all loved it. Tender, moist, with a crispy breaded exterior. So good! In fact, it was the only thing that my husband wanted when we returned the next day. On day two we got the lunch sampler that comes with schnitzel, bratwurst, German meatball, fleischkase (German deli meat), and spatzle. Everything was super delicious as well! The German meatball tastes like a juicy burger patty, and fleischkase reminds me of a spam with a soft, tender texture. I also got the Saturday special, which was roasted pork (schweinebraten). The gravy was delicious, but the roast pork was really really dry. This was probably the worse item of our meal, but it was still edible. We also got a cowboy strudel from the bakery and we ate the entire thing despite it being such a huge pastry. It contained cheese, bacon, beans, and sausage. Yum! They also had a huge assortment of other saliva-inducing pastries that we unfortunately didn't have enough stomach for. I'm super jealous as I write this review of all the Corpus Residents who get to frequent this place! Highly recommend!

    Eric G.

What a gem! Seriously wish something like this was near me. More authentic than many "German bakeries" in America that I've been to. Also, very reasonable prices, and they offer discounts towards the end of the day. I can only speak to the pastries, but from what I tried (Bavarian cream strudel if I remember right), it is more than worth a stop if you're in the corpus area.

You walk in and order at the counter then take a seat and wait for your food. I ordered the Duke Ellington and that ricotta pancake was AMAZING! it has a hint of lemon in it and I will be thinking about it all week. The bacon and eggs were cooked the way I like them. Over medium and crispy bacon. The California Crab Cake was soooo good. My fiancé got that and I too and bite and asked for a second bit because it was so good. The red potatoes as the side were good as well. I got the Hester Latte and I really enjoyed it. The triple coconut was too sweet for us but it tasted good.

I stopped in for brunch on a Saturday morning and was really surprised by the crowds, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. It reminded a lot of B Matthew's in Savannah, which if you know, is a good thing! I initially went for the croissants based on the recommendation, but ordered the Biscuits with Gravy in addition to a loaf of sourdough, a croissant, and a few back to school theme cookies to bring onto the kids! The biscuits and gravy was phenomenal, and I really liked how they added scrambled eggs to top them. This is something I've never seen before and the result was great! As far as the bakery items (croissant, sourdough, and cookies) I feel like my review won't do them justice because they weren't eaten until I got home a few days later. Bottom line, I will be stopping in at Hester's every time I visit Corpus going forward. A definitely must try!
