With a 4.4 rating I would think our visit would be great. However there were just too many things that screamed not good. I admit I had heard they're breakfast and lunch are great. We thought we would visit for dinner at about 6 pm . Place was totally empty when we arrived; a very wait person say us and very nicely waited on us throughout. I had the two bratwurst with red cabbage and German potatoe salad . Now usually to me , bratwurst should be full juicy sausages of a considerable size . What I got was a little better than two hot dogs that were cut in two length wise. The potato salad was somewhat greasy and not too remarkable at all. The red cabbage was only passable. The whole thing seemed like it was warmed up from lunch , in that it came out surprisingly quickly and was tepid rather than hot. Microwaved maybe even. My partner had pork schnitzel, spaetzal and sauerkraut. The snitzel seemed ok though tepid . The serving size though was somewhat smaller than what their online pic showed but my wife said that she didn't need anything bigger . My wife said the spaetzal was good though I tasted it and thought it seemed warmed up. The oddest thing is that the sauerkraut was mixed up with mashed potatoes. The texture was weird and it was missing the tanginess of sauerkraut and , again, tasted warmed up. Is this a way to "stretch" sauerkraut of all things? The problem is they just started dinner service I guess in the last two weeks according to our server . On top of all this it was exorbitantly priced . Whereas I might visit during breakfast, I may not fit dinner for a while to where they can build a better experience. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. read more

We can never pass up an opportunity to try some German food so we stopped here while in Corpus Cristi. The place was empty when we arrived, so we ordered our cakes from the bakery and then sat down. Pur server was friendlh and came by quick to take our order. We had the Farmers Breakfast, breakfast sampler, kids pretzel breakfast, black forest Cake and a bee stingy cake. Food came out very fast. The winner here was that bratkartoffel and the Farmers bread from the Farmers breakfast. Both cakes were also very good with the black forest being just slightly better. The bad part was the kids pretzel, which was hard and stale, and the bratwurst which was salty and not that great. The fruit was also not fresh tasted like something premade/bought. Overall it was pretty good and worth a visit for breakfast. Service is quick and food is pretty good. read more

We came to the old location years ago for the pastries (for breakfast). This time we stopped by for lunch. My daughter had the grilled cheese sandwich (provolone, cheddar, and Swiss grilled on their fresh bread). My wife and I had the Jägerschnitzel with German potato salad. 9/10 for the schnitzel and 10/10 for the German potato salad and Jäger sauce. Good gawd they were awesome. Yes, we would come back. Good German food for a fantastic price! JB's is located on Staples and Everhart next to the ER and Walgreens. There is a bakery inside with lots of variety. You will find fresh baked bread, pretzels, quiche, kolaches, and an assortment of German pastries and sweets. I have tried the pretzel buns and apple custard pastry and they were both good. We have come here twice now and the food has been consistent. Here is what we ordered: Swiss Schnitzel with Spaetzle - Generous sized fried pork schnitzel smothered in gravy and swiss cheese. The side of spaetzle is a German dumpling/pasta. Both are tasty and very filling. Jager Schnitzel with Bratkartoffeln - Another large pork schnitzel, this one covered in mushroom gravy and a side of German style "hashbrowns" that had bacon with it. Only problem with both schnitzels was the fryer oil aftertaste. The oil was much too dark and could be tasted. Bratwurst in a Bun - One bratwurst sliced in half served on a baguette bun with mustard. Taste good but the bratwurst seems pretty small for the $6. The decor is outdated and could use a face lift. Our server was great but very busy due to lack of workers. The prices are great and it is hard to find an authentic German restaurant priced affordably. Very nice mom and pop shop. read more

Big bonus that you can pick up bakery treats and bread on the way out. Operating a family owned bakery and restaurant is a ton of work. Early days, late nights, no time off. Kudos to the family and their team for making this happen. Good family owned restaurants are so much work, they rarely last too long. It's just very hard to keep the pace. I've seen this restaurant a couple times when in Corpus, but it was closed every time we went by - this was perfect timing. They brought us some samplings of the different pastries they offer and all were delicious and amazing. Our main entrées were typical breakfast plates eggs over easy German schnitzel, homestyle potatoes, all very good and reasonably priced. JB's German Restaurant and Bakery is DEEELICIOUS! In fact, it was so good we had to come back the next day to try more items on the menu as we were leaving Corpus that day. What a gem of a find! The first day we came for breakfast, and got the Farmers breakfast and German Burrito. The German Burrito is a German crepe (pfannkuchen) wrapped around an egg omelet and bratwurst. It was so so good and a perfect combination! Our toddler loved it as well. By the time we ate our food it was almost 10:30am, and since I was still a bit hungry they let me order from the lunch menu. I got the schnitzel and we all loved it. Tender, moist, with a crispy breaded exterior. So good! In fact, it was the only thing that my husband wanted when we returned the next day. On day two we got the lunch sampler that comes with schnitzel, bratwurst, German meatball, fleischkase (German deli meat), and spatzle. Everything was super delicious as well! The German meatball tastes like a juicy burger patty, and fleischkase reminds me of a spam with a soft, tender texture. I also got the Saturday special, which was roasted pork (schweinebraten). The gravy was delicious, but the roast pork was really really dry. This was probably the worse item of our meal, but it was still edible. We also got a cowboy strudel from the bakery and we ate the entire thing despite it being such a huge pastry. It contained cheese, bacon, beans, and sausage. Yum! They also had a huge assortment of other saliva-inducing pastries that we unfortunately didn't have enough stomach for. I'm super jealous as I write this review of all the Corpus Residents who get to frequent this place! Highly recommend! read more

Arrived Sunday morning on Juneteenth weekend planning to take some savory baked treats from JB's Today they were very short handed. I saw one server handling the entire restaurant floor. There were three or four parties waiting to be seated and nine others already seated but unbothered by the situation. Good thing I didn't come to dine in, I do not have that kind of patience. We decided to pick up some good German pastries and have lunch at this little restaurant. Unfortunately their business has been impacted by the reworking of Everhart at Staples, but keep your patience as you wind through the construction because it is worth the wait. The restaurant is large, clean and airy with lots of strudel, cookies, cakes, pies, pastries, rolls and breads displayed for sale. We sat at a large table and studied the expansive menu for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is served all day (restaurant closes at 2:00). The flavoring was average. The jeager gravy was needed to give the schnitzel flavor. The German meatballs were dense without much seasoning. We tried the strawberry cheesecake and it was pretty good we spontaneously just went there since we were right next door.

We'd picked up great pastries many times at their old location on Padre Island. The new location is much bigger and better and we decided we needed to partake in a lunch and we're glad we did. My wife enjoyed her lunch sampler, 1/2 of a bratwurst, 1/2 of a fleischkase, 1/2 of a meatball and her fave...1/2 of a schnitzel....I loved it too. She had the German tater salad...yum. Our buddy got a schnitzel burger on a sourdough bun...she loved the slices of cucumber on it. I had to try the brisket strudel, it's been on my bucket list for a while...wow was it good, it came as a combo with a slice of apple strudel, also amazing. I enjoyed a cup of chicken soup.
