Came for a weeknight dinner. Showed up just past 8pm. Party of 4. Place is huge but not many people. They are understaffed though. There's a sign out front indicating as much. Korean guy at the front waves at us, asks how many people, and directs us to a seat. Then another Korean guy comes over and scolds us, telling us to next time please wait at the front until being seated. Clearly they have some organizational issues here and not a great start to this visit. We place our order. Food for 2 of our 4 arrive about 10 mins later. The food for the other 2 people arrive another 20 mins later. Meanwhile the food for the first 2 ppl just sit there. Thankfully they were in clay pots so it was still warm at least, but this is ridiculous. There is no reason for this. If you're slow to get food out, fine, but bring it all out at once. The restaurant itself is huge, looks like a lounge and bar but mostly empty. The staff are all dressed differently too in street clothes so its hard to tell who works there. They are clearly struggling with understaffing. We had a caucasian waitress who came by to deliver food. She was very nice and friendly. About the food. We ordered: kimchi soondubu - asked for extra spicy, it was barely spicy. beef/seafood mixed soondubu - asked for spicy, it was straight up not spicy. The broth base was the same for each, and lacked depth of flavour. The tofu itself was pretty good, silky smooth, but tofu takes on the flavours of whatever it's cooked with and in this case, not much... The beef in these was just ok and there wasnt much of it. The seafood in the mixed one amounted to 1 clam and 1 shrimp shell-on. There was nothing else in it. 2/5 for both of these. Gamjatang - medium sized portion, good for 2, maybe 3 people. Meat was ok, broth was not bad. Solid average. 3/5. banchan served with the meals were the biggest disappointment. 2/5. This might be the most disappointing banchan ive had in a Korean restaurant in a long time. They served regular cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and bean sprouts. thats it. None of them were particularly good (not bad, just nothing great). And for a party of 4, they served a single portion of each banchan for the whole table. We had to ask for refills 3 more times. You have 4 diners, all with food that comes with Banchan normally. Wouldnt it be reasonable to bring out 4 portions of banchan right off the bat? Especially when you're understaffed? Overall: Main dishes 2.5/5. Banchan 2/5 for overall selection and quality. Service 2/5 - really comes down to severe understaffing and really poor management of how the kitchen is run. The staff there do their best but they need help. Venue 3/5. Overall, 2 to 2.5/5. This place might be the worst Korean place on the Robson strip of all the ones Ive been to. That's saying a lot, since Vancouver doesnt have amazing Korean food to begin with, and this is one of the worst of the bunch. read more

Decent. Pretty wide variety of a menu, had soup, bimbimbap and bugolgi. Decent but small amount of banchan, enjoyed the kimchi. they had potato and 2 others, tried 'em all, but have had better. I had a veggie hot bimbimbap, was disappointed that mine was in a bowl and my colleague who ordered a beef bimbimbap had his in a stone bowl. Stone bowl's so much better, I love it when the rice continues to cook. Mine had a couple of slices of blandish tofu, but the rest was decent. If I could give this NEGATIVE 20 STARS, I WOULD! I understand that seems harsh, but just hear me out, and perhaps you can save yourself the misery of going to this particular establishment. To get this out of the way, this restaurant does only a couple things right. It has: -Decent Music sourced directly from Spotify -Good view of surrounding area despite being only one story up -Large, huge booths with plenty of room to sit in. That's about the only good things about this restaurant. Now the food, we ordered a beef bone soup, the white milky beef soup and a non-spicy tofu soup. Like all Korean restaurants, it stars with small! side dishes . Just be aware they as shown on the picture., Only 4 kinds and nothing fancy. The beef bone soup was okay, but you can tell the meat is either not good quality or not fresh. The milky beef soup comes with only 3- 4 small pieces of beef slices and is not flavorful. The non-spicy tofu soup comes in red with chill oil on the top. When we ask the waiter about it, he insists that is what Korean's non-spicy should be and want us to try it first. And yes it end up being spicy and we have to ask them re-make it. And the tofu soup had barely ANY MEAT. So we ate and left the restaurant still hungry and need to pick up some food on our way home. read more

Jangmojib has good food, especially the seafood soondubu - average, but their LA galbi--flavors are are well-seasoned, and exactly what you'd hope for in Korean comfort food. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't match up. Service was okay, but it's clear they're understaffed. We had to wait quite a while, and by the time our galbi arrived, maybe 15 minutes after our soondubu, one dish had already gone cold. Some sides were also unavailable, which was a bummer. The ambiance is cozy and casual, but the long wait and slow service make it feel a bit hectic when they're busy. Overall, if you're after great-tasting Korean food, it's worth it, but be prepared for long waits and a slightly disjointed dining experience. read more

First time at the Vancouver location and the inside was super spacious like the Burnaby location. Ordered two cold noodles because it was a hot day. I fully expected one to be spicy and the other not to be but the noodles were completely different! I loved the chewy texture in both of the noodles and would get it again for sure! The rice cake and beef soup was disappointing though. The rice cakes were too soft and didn't have the chewy texture you long for with rice cakes and there was little meat to be seen as well. I live in Virginia and visit Vancouver 3 to 4 times a year. The best place to have Korean food is JangMoJib. I don't mind to drive long from Surrey where I stay for the taste of real Korean dishes. This time I came with my family and ordered 따로국밥(tarogukbab?). Wow! It was exactly right taste of that you could eat in the most famous place in Korea when I was young decades ago, near the train station of Daegu!!! The food was good. We ordered through Uber to our hotel. Yes, we tipped the driver. No spoon, no napkins, no, chopsticks! Absolutely nothing else except for the soup and rice. The delivery address was our hotel for crying out loud. To deliver 2 orders of soup and rice with no utensils is ridiculous. I called and inquired about it, and the gentleman said we had to order it separately!??! Maybe it's a local thing?? Been craving JMJ's cold noodles and galbi for the longest time. It's been over a decade since the last visit, and it's a different downtown location, but still the same authentic, well-balanced, delicious Korean food! Loved the short walk from our hotel and the many shops nearby. The servers were kind and friendly--like almost everyone in Canada! I quite enjoy JMJ. They have moved into the old Moxies on Robson and Bute beside the Breka. I am not sure if they still have private Kareoke rooms but am waiting to find out. Had a chance to visit Vancouver recently and so glad I got to eat at Jang Mo Jib! I had dinner there the first night we visited and forgot to take pictures as we ate all the food up too fast. Price/quality (3/4): I came here for Korean food and I was surprised to find that they also served dim sum from Hon's. Still, their soft tofu stew was the same quality that you would expect from a different Jang Mo Jib location--quite nice, though nothing too impressive. Love the foods and love the customer services. We ordered J1 in L and the portion is so big. They gave generous meats. We also ordered T3 and in the middle of eating the soup, my kids want more potato noodles so we ordered extra noodles. They said since they cannot just bring the noodles on the side, they said they can bring our soup bowl and remake another one with extra noodles. I was surprised by their excellent service. We go to many Korean restaurants because my wife and in laws are obsessed with Korean drama series and often wish to dine like their soap icons. This Jang Mo Jib in Vancouver's Chinatown really surprised me with the quality of flavour and the expertise in which the 13 of us were served when we visited last night. The food came out at a constant pace and every dish was on point. I didn't expect this from a Vancouver franchise restaurant. In fact, the food was more flavorful than some of the higher end Korean restaurants we've been to. Everything from the Seafood pancake to the porkbone soup was delicious! we orderd all the standards including fried and steamed mandu. A unique menu feature at this location, because it was the former Hon's Wuntun House, is the variety for cantonese style dim sum and noodle dishes. So if you have a change of heart and wanted something else, I'm sure it will be prepared expertly. The ladies in the kitchen do not fool around. I watched their focus and many young cooks do have a lot to learn from their moms and grandmas - this is definitely cross cultural. Great food! Great service! Super nice staff! We had a great time. Their BBQ chicken dish, is super delicious, the Beef Stew too. Everything! We had a couple Hon's fans with us and they were able to order their favourite greens, as the restaurant still offers a few Hon's dishes, but our table was quickly converted over to the new Korean flavours.
