A store that generates zero traffic should not constantly look like a tornado just touched down. Do they really think marking threadbare graphic tees up to an eye-gouging $55 is going to fool anyone who has at least one remaining brain cell when the same disposable garments are then offered at 50% off. And of course the obligatory thumbs up for the elfin cashier who insists on extracting my email address (sorry, all our printers are busted) so they can let me know when these doorbuster tee-shirts will be going for $6.50 on January 2nd. Product quality and service at Gap has been cratering for years, time to pull the plug.

We are in Princeton for a…read morefamily memorial, and as usual when multiple generations are together, I revert to the 16-year old girl who is struggling to be heard against the cacophony of voices. "I need socks!" I repeat. "Hold on, hold on, Liz says she needs socks!" my mother announces. "What, they don't have socks in California?" my Dad asks with his eyebrow raised. "I need WARM socks. It's freezing here." I say, trying not to sound like I am pouting. My socks of of the thin, cotton variety - a joke when faced with wintry, snowy weather. So, all morning long we discuss my need for socks, and we go in search of them, and also the Einstein museum that my mother has read about. We have gone about a block on Nassau Street when we see a sign saying "Sock Sale". Everyone smiles and we march in like a troop of soldiers. Now, if there were a store ever built for my family, Landau's Woolens is it. The store is piled floor to ceiling with more product than I have ever seen in my life, everything from scarves to mohair blankets to boiled wool jackets to Viyella shirts. Like kids being set loose in a candy store, we all go our separate ways. The treasures, the treasures! Out of the corner of my eye, I see my Dad walking around in a top hat looking like something out of Dickens, my mom cooing over the handmade Christmas stockings, while my grandfather's wife and I are pouring over the huge variety of socks for sale. Let me tell you, these socks? You haven't tried socks until you try these socks. Cashmere wrapped around other fibers, soft yet durable, in a variety of colors and....HALF-OFF *angels singing*. This is truly the mecca of fine hosiery. They get them directly from the factory in Camden, NJ, the same one that sells to Nordstrom's. I pile them into my arms like I have just won the lottery. "Please" our salesperson says, "go put them on right now." They clear a chair for me and I put on my first pair of socks. It's like stepping into a warm bath. Suddenly all is right with the world. Wait...there is more. Remember Mom's wish to visit the Einstein museum? Yeah, that was easy too, because it's located right at the back of the store! Now that's not something you see every day. We walked out with our multiple purchases and a business card with the website address for future needs. My Dad fails to make a comment about how spoiled I am because he is too enamored with himself in his new hat (which was a big hit around town). My mom is giddy about her new Christmas stocking. And me? You can just call me Happy Feet from now on. Great store, great staff, excellent product. Einstein is not the only genius in residence there!

The store has everything that is required and wanted being a student or family member of this university. The color scheme is so beautiful to look at that will make each visitors get involved with any sports teams this university represent . The store is huge, has various merchandise stocks and supplies. Marketfair Mall in Princeton feels like a small miracle of survival in the digital age, a place…read morethat is neither packed to the rafters nor echoingly abandoned like so many malls that have gone gently into that good night. It is comfortably alive, which is more than can be said for much of modern retail. The Barnes and Noble alone is reason enough to show up. It is a proper bookstore where you can wander, browse, and briefly pretend the internet isn't actively murdering print media. I also enjoy the little AMC theater, which is perfectly fine as long as you are seeing a movie that does not demand the thunder and spectacle of IMAX. Sometimes a modest screen, a bag of popcorn and a plush recliner are more than enough. The place is rarely crowded, which makes errands feel less like combat and more like a calm agreement between shoppers and time itself. That said, I am hoping something interesting eventually replaces the recently shuttered Bahama Breeze. The space feels like it wants to be fed a new idea. Time will tell whether that happens. Four stars for being pleasant, functional, and quietly resisting extinction. In this era, that feels like an accomplishment.

Haha.. maybe he's secretly hoping his kids will end up there one day. He said it was because Princeton mascot is a tiger and one of our kids was born in the year of the tiger. Ended up getting 2 tiger sweatshirts, Princeton magnet, socks, backpack, Pom Pom's, and more. Think we spent over $180! They have a bathrooms available to use. Staff were friendly and responsive. Gave our kids some stickers too. Fun times shopping in this store!

Finally a consignment with high quality sweaters in small sizes! The quality of clothing here is gently pre-owned, with some vintage brand names sprinkled throughout. I was excited to find a few of my favorite European brands here too. The prices reflect the quality, e.g. if you're buying silver you're paying for silver. I will say that the furs are a bit of a deal considering that they don't smell like they've absorbed 30 years of smoke the fur lays smooth, and still they have all their buttons. Upon walking into the next room, the associate behind the counter there also watched me like a hawk and the two of them stood and stared at me, never once saying a word but certainly giving the impression that they wanted me to leave. I have never felt like I didn't belong in a store until I went to Hiltons and I have been to many fine clothing stores in the past. I'll be back to see if it happens again. Maybe the two old queens working the room won't be there.
