The staff is the same as years ago - lacking in any customer service experience period. Imagine walking into a store and nobody ask if you would like any help watching all the employees talk to each other and ignore the customers. When we asked for help, wow... we must have interrupted a great conversation because then we got attitude like we were the problem. We ALWAYS go to Cole Sport where you receive the best service. Jan's is basically a joke and one day this place will shut down due the to "years" of poor service. Selection is about the same as other stores. Ever spring/summer I get my bike out of storage and prep it to ride. For years I've taken it to Coles (who I bought it from) first and ask if they'd lube it and put air in my tires. Easy I know, but I'm pushing 70, have a bad back, and it's a relatively heavy bike so it's more challenging for me to lift it up on a rack, bend over to unscrew the valve caps, and pump the flat tires up. Coles told me when I bought the bike from them to bring it over anytime for air and lube, but whenever I do, they either want to charge me for a minor tune and/or keep the bike a day or longer. After yet another stop at Coles (closest shop to me) and subsequent disappointment, I walked the double flat tire bike to Jan's. Seems like I do this every year. At Jan's, Floyd greeted me warmly and was HAPPY to lift the bike on the rack, lube it up far better than I would, and inflate my tires for me. Jan's always provides me with xlnt customer service no matter what I buy or ask to be serviced, and I'm grateful for that. I ordered a pair of new ski boots from JANS.com and expected them to arrive quickly since I'm in Salt Lake City. I hoped to have my new ski boots before the closing day with the ski season winding down. Most online retailers ship orders the same day or the next day. When I hadn't received a shipping notice two days later, I contacted JANS and received no response. Eight days later, I contacted them again and again received no response. Ten days later, my order was not fulfilled, and JANS finally emailed me and said the product was out of stock and that they were canceling my order. I went to go rent a Mtb, the guy (red bearded due) was super helpful. im so stoked they had my frame size; I rented an XS Julianna, they provide a helmet and a flat repair kit. There's also an option to purchase insurance for $10/day which was great. Yay for bike shops that rent women specific frame sizes! Going to ski last week, I had to check out the local sports stores, which included Jans Sport and Cole Sport (across the street). They get 4 stars only because they had their clearance sale while we happened to be in Park City. This store closed from 4-7pm, so they could put sale prices on their items. They reopened from 7-10pm and by 6:15pm there was a line around the building. Most of the outerwear (jackets and pants) were 50% off and most other things were at least 20% off. It was an excellent sale if you wanted to get any ski or snowboard clothes, boots, skis, snowboard since those items seemed to have the largest discounts. I was in Park City the week of March 11 to 18. This sale started on 3/15/2011. Xie Xie!! read more

Booked and pre-paid for a snow shoe rental online. My girlfriend and I my our way to the store at the reservation time. No one greeted us upon entering the store, we walked around for a while looking at stuff until finally someone acknowledged us. The associate seemed baffled that we had booked a rental online and said that their rental shop is closed. Another associate came over and unnecessarily threw in his two cents saying "where would you even go snow shoeing right now anyways?" I replied, "up by Strawberry reservoir", where I had hiked the day before and had to turn around because I was post-holing in 2-3 feet of snow. So yeah, in addition to not having the equipment I pre-paid for, thanks for trying to make me seem like an ass in front of my girlfriend. The store deserves some benefit of the doubt, I'm sure they weren't aware that their online booking system was still active. The associate who initially greeted us was trying to be helpful and called their sister store and confirmed the availability of the equipment before directing us that way. Sad that my experience here was a hassle, and the "do you even know what you're doing?" attitude by that associate was frustrating and uncalled for. read more

Recommend AVOIDING AT ALL COSTS. My family and I have been going to Deer Valley for many years, and during that time we would always get our ski equipment from Jans. In all, I believe we purchased five whole ski sets (e.g., skis, boots, custom boot insoles, helmets, goggles, poles, gloves) and a large number of other items. A few years ago, we purchased two whole ski sets - including my first pair of ski boots and custom boot insoles. At the time of the purchase, I recall mentioning how the boots seemed rather snug and was told that they should be the right size. From then on, I had severe feet pain every time I went skiing. I thought that I was perhaps still breaking in the boots - but it turned out that was not the case (at all). I went and asked Jans for help with the boots and foot pain the next day, and probably no less than 10 times over the next few years. Jans responded in a variety of ways - including (i) that it was because I was wearing too thick of ski socks and so I needed to buy some of theirs (which I did on two different occasions); (ii) that it was actually my skiing style that was the fault and not the boot (which on one occasion lead them to strap on strips of plastic to my skis to try and (somehow) fix); (iii) that I just needed the boots to be warmed or the insoles reshaped (which I did on a few occasions); and/or (iv) that the boot was the right size and so it was either (i), (ii) and/or (iii) that was the issue (or some other excuse I have since forgotten). During these years, I lost approximately 6 or 7 big toe nails (sometimes together or sometimes one at a time) and my foot was always in extreme pain while skiing. A few weeks ago, I was skiing with a group of friends and, as always, I immediately had immense foot pain. The group knowing well the horrid tales of these boots, insisted that I return to Jans and try and rent another pair of boots. I went to Jans, and after about 30 minutes of waiting explained a polite version of the above and mentioned how we had been going to Jans for many years (including buying my wife a new ski set a few months ago). I asked if they could take a look and/or if I could test some other boots that I would then buy if they worked. I was curtly told that they only way they could help me is if I bought a new pair of boots and that I should wait until they have someone to assist me. With this final disappoint, I proceeded to the Deer Valley ski rental store (which I had gone to countless time while growing up - with no issues whatsoever). I explained the situation, and they saw that I had been wearing a size 280mm from Jans. They promptly measured my foot and said no wonder I was having pain - my foot was much bigger than 280mm (~288mm) and that I should be in at least a 295mm. My foot size has not changed in well over 15 years. I admit that I am also at fault here for not addressing the issue more head on over the years, waiting to get a second opinion until I had lost a number of big toe nails, not focusing on them actually measuring my feet and so on. I had trusted that Jans were "professionals" who knew what they were doing (much more so than me) and so I put (way) too much trust into them. In hindsight, I believe they likely did not have my size when I first bought it and wanted to make a sale of two whole ski sets at the end of the ski season. We will never return, and would recommend the same. EDIT: I shared this post with some family and friends, and immediately received responses of similar issues (e.g., new boots "way to tight/small"). Thought this was worth sharing, as this incident of sheer incompetence does not appear to be isolated. read more

Review is for bike shop & tuning! I busted a spoke in the morning before work and was hoping Jans would be able to help me out quickly. Being shamefully negligent and oblivious to the ins and outs of bike maintenance myself, I had a little list of other adjustments and services needed ( front & rear brake bleed being the main one). Sean at Jans was SO friendly and helpful and was able to take care of the spoke and brake bleed within a couple hours. He also gave me a ring to let me know I really needed a new rear rotor & brake pads, as well as a few other small items. Again... bike maintenance is really not my forte. By 2pm my bike was ready and Sean had also made a few minor adjustments to the shifting and headset just to help me out. My bike is looking and feeling so much better with just a bit of attention, and I didn't miss a day of riding. Will definitely be coming back for bike service & parts needs. THANK YOU!! read more

My wife demo'd skis at their Snow Park shop on the mountain at Deer Valley, loved the Volkls, so we bought them and the shop got the bindings mounted and out the door in time for us to catch our plane that afternoon. Also great results at boot fitting, and getting rid of the dreaded shin bang. Recently Cindy was super-helpful at their mini-shop mid-mountain at Silver Lake lodge. Thanks! I would be very careful about ordering online. First, if the item is on sale, they will not exchange, will not offer a store credit, will not return, will not even exchange for another size or help in any way. I began by sending an email to their customer service requesting an exchange, and there was no reply. I called and the customer service person told me their policy of not offering any ability to exchange (even for the same item) in any way possible. I asked to speak with his manager and he informed me that he was the supervisor of customer service. Do yourself a favor, make sure you know exactly what you're buying, the size you're buying it, etc, or STAY AWAY. read more

I stopped in to JANS to see if I needed to get my new Intuition Liners heat molded, even though I had sort of molded them at home already...but they just didn't feel as comfortable as everyone said they should be. Well, boy am I glad I stopped in! Hank helped me understand how the liners work and the value of doing the real heat molding. He walked me through the whole process, talked to me about why they fit them this specific way, what they should feel like, etc. I had an incredible experience and my liners now fit AWESOME. He even helped me figure out why my feet were getting cold so fast! (Hint: don't crank down on your ski boots so tight!) We also dropped our board and skis off for waxing, and they were ready for us the next morning. I would HIGHLY recommend JANS for all your skiing and snowboarding needs! read more

I was here towards the end of the ski-season. Plenty of sales, and up to 50% discounts on all merchandise, including skis, which were 40% off. NICE. If I needed a new ski outfit, I'd have had a field day, but for once in my life, I showed some self-control. One of my friends bought skis this time around and the service could not have been better. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. When you get there, ask for Dave. He is, hands down, the MVP at this place. The rental shop has a good crew. Positive attitudes, great trail recommendations, and very cooperative. I rented mountain bikes for 7 days for $300 apiece. My friend rented snowboarding pants here and bought a pair of gloves here. He is new to winter sports, and when he asked the associate if ski bibs were available, the associate gave a look and made a comment that wasn't helpful. My friend did not appreciate their rude response nor their attitude. I referred my friend to JANS, and am disappointed about this impression that was given to my friend. Maybe it was just that one associate, but for now, we are only giving two stars. As for me, when shopping for discount ski/snow items here, I wasn't greeted, nor helped, and the prices were still expensive.
