This is a fairly reliable garage for whenever I want to visit Japantown. I went here for the New Years festivities, and I was easily able to find parking on the lower floors. Granted, I haven't been coming to Japantown too often, but I haven't had any troubles yet with finding parking. It's generally safe, as I have had no issues with worrying about my car's safety. It connects directly to both East and West Mall, so it's very convenient in accessing the heart of Japantown. When the malls do close, though, you can still access your car via asking the folks from Hotel Kabuki, to which this garage is also connected. This garage is super busy, but they're the best Japan Town has and it's clean. The price is fine (it's pricey, but not Financial District pricey) and it's underneath all of the businesses, serving the mall, Daiso, the restaurants in the neighborhood, and the hotel it's attached to. The best thing about it is not worrying about a parking ticket which is way more expensive or having to deal with homeless people who when you find a street parking spot open, will pretend to help you by ushering you into the spot, then demand a tip for letting you park there. Came here when I went shopping in Japantown and the entry and payment method was super easy! They have an option to pay on the phone but make sure to pay before you get to the exit. They have an area near the exit to pay for your ticket, it was about $4 for a little over an hour of being there. Spots are pretty tight so avoid bringing larger vehicles. read more

A lesson learned pre-covid in dining and shopping in this neighborhood, timing is everything. I started dining in Japantown more about three years ago, mostly for lunch. Knowing the lunch rush in those days, I usually came late mornings in shopping at the local markets before grabbing a bite for lunch. I would usually find parking along Post Street, feed the meter, and do the above. A couple years ago, SFMTA instituted a peak and non-peak time rate tier system with prime hours being more costly than non-peak. I did the math and learned that it was cheaper parking in this garage than parking on the streets. The ironic thing is that this is a City run lot too. Plus, in the last couple years, car break-ins, vandalism, and other crime issues made it a no-brainer to park in this secure two-level parking structure. There are pay stations on both levels though the ones downstairs are sometimes out of order. I suggest paying at the ground level machines before going to your vehicle downstairs, just in case. Some of the local businesses like Nijiya Market will offer validation parking (discounted) if you purchase over $30.00. Check with the other restaurants or businesses whether they are in the program. Highly recommend using this garage especially for visitors from out of the area who may have luggage or tempting items in the cab of their cars. Convenient parking option in Japantown [San Francisco] Hubby always prefers parking on side streets in Japantown (if he can find one). We wanted to dine in Japantown and this time he wasn't able to find an open spot so we did the parking garage thing. We drove inside and it produced a ticket complete with our car license plate number. Bring ticket with you so you can pay at a pay station prior to exiting the garage but when we left it also allowed to pay at the exit if you forgot to bring ticket with you. There are two parking garages in Japantown. The main garage is on Geary Blvd and the other on Fillmore Annex. We used the one on Fillmore which is on the west of Japantown (located between Geary and Post Streets). It is closest parking area to the restaurant where we wanted to dine at Udon Mugizo. It's very convenient and the rates are decent and affordable. We arrived a little before 6:00p (3:00p to 6:00p is $3/hr) but 6:00p to midnight is $2/hr) our total was $5 for parking (missed that cut off at 6:00p (would've been $1 cheaper). Still not bad at all! Best place to park when shopping, dining in Japantown! Two elevator bays. Both lead directly into the Japan Center Mall, no need to go outside. Wonderful place to go in inclement weather. The parking fee is significantly lower than the downtown garages. Cashiers are no longer available, but there are pay machines at the pedestrian entrances/exits and you can use a credit card at the auto exit. An absolute NIGHTMARE. I applied for a monthly parking pass in April 2022, never heard back, paid for daily early bird parking. The machines over charged me several times for the regular rate, despite clearly on my ticket showing that I arrived during the appropriate time. The machines were constantly down, accepting cash only. I almost got stuck once because I didn't have cash. Emailed again in May to get a pass, they took my credit card info and told me it would start in June. So I paid daily parking all of May as well. June comes, use my pass. I find out June 20th that a parking spot in my building opened up so I didn't have to walk half a mile up hill to work anymore. I notify the manager via email that I am canceling my parking pass, he tells me the soonest the can cancel it is end of July. As per contract since I canceled after the 8th of the month, I did have to pay for the month of July-annoying but I did agree to that contract. August comes and I'm charged again. Oops, honest mistake on their end. I emailed reminding the manager I cancelled in June, thus should not be charged and disputed the charge with my bank. September comes and again I am charged. I dispute the charge and send the manager another email. He said since I didn't confirm the July cancellation I'm still getting charged-I emailed in August reminding him of the cancellation so that is no excuse for charging me again in September. October-CHARGED AGAIN. I emailed again telling them to stop charging me. The manager emailed back about how he spoke to accounting about my payments rejecting and to send him my bank statements. I don't see why he need to see my banks statements, I canceled my parking pass months ago, pretty straightforward. November comes and surprise, charged again! Oh and on top of charging me parking for FOUR MONTHS of parking I am not contractually obligated to pay because I did give notice, they are tacking on late fees. Another email to the manager to stop charging me, I'm not giving him my bank statements, and I will continue disputing each charge. December comes, I'm not charged. Hallelujah, this nightmare has come to an end! Or so I thought. I got a notice today for payment due in January. This business is FRAUDULENTLY charging me. This garage is very accessible on both Geary & Post St. Prices are definitely reasonable for the area and prefer it versus the meter street parking. Also, they have some sort of small business detailing situation on the bottom level that I was quite interested in. We weee there maybe 2hrs and only paid $6 parking. Sometimes I just like to hop in the car and head into the City. Japantown (and Filmore Street beyond) is an occasional destination, and it's often easier to just pay the fee and use the Japan Center garage. I'm a pretty big fan of this garage since it is always clean, well lit like some other reviewers mentioned; it's not so pricey that you don't want to park here and it is extremely easy access to most of Japantown. I would be willing to pay $8.00-$10.00 a day to browse, explore and eat around Japantown knowing that my car was safe and sound at the garage. They do try to maintain great spacing as well between the cars so its not as likely someone will dent or cause damage to your car while here unlike if you parked outside on the street or in other lots where they try to squeeze 100 cars into the spot of 50. read more

Beware of this place! We parked on the main level, 7PM at night, lots of cars and foot traffic... only to have our rear window shattered and valuables stolen from the vehicle. It was brazen, typical for SF these days. Garage had no one on premises. Called the next day, no one answered the phone. Tourists and visitors beware: limited parking spaces available. The City leased a number of spaces to the CA Pacific Medical Center [CPMC] nearby for its staff. The employees park at the garage and are shuttled by CPMC to the medical center on a regular basis. Good news for the City and garage because its stable revenue. Bad news for Japantown businesses and the J-Town community. Limited parking in the long run will discourage visitors and tourists. Poor management. They always close the garage entrance on Post St and tell people to enter on Geary St. Once, I went through all the traffic to get to the Geary St entrance there was a sign that said the garage is full. The ridiculousness to try to park inside the garage is unreal. We circled around again through all the chaotic traffic to find street parking with no luck and found the full sign was removed from the Geary garage entrance. So was the garage really full? Nope. Once we got in there were plenty of spaces. Also, make sure to keep your receipt when you pay for your ticket. When we tried to leave the garage, the ticket reader said we did not pay even though we did. We had to hold up the line of cars behind us waiting to exit. I had to quickly run out of the car and talk to the ticket person at the window and provide proof of payment. Please fix your ticket reading machines and get it together. read more

The garage is positioned under Japantown. Entrance at Geary and one on Post for the main garage. There is a separate lot on Fillmore called the Annex. Adequate room for compact to medium cars. If you have a longer vehicle (oversize truck) and another long vehicle parks across the lane from you, you are going to have a problem backing out even with exceptional spatial skills, The actual lane width is not generous, the slots are not deep enough, or a combination of the two accounts for this. Backing out can be a problem depending on the length of the cars near you. Seen it happen to someone firsthand. The slots across from the attendant office are spacious. Pay at the kiosk near the entrance or attendant window. Cash and credit accepted. Clean garage. Direct entrance to the Kabuki Hotel from the garage. Reasonable rates. This garage NOW closes on weekdays at 11pm, which makes it hard when parking for The Fillmore down the street. We've used this garage for DECADES because it used to be safe, affordable and *reliable*. But last night, Feb 14, 2022, we got out of a Fillmore show around 11:15-11:30pm and were horrified to find our cars trapped in a shuttered garage. They fortunately had an after hour emergency number who talked us into getting in and how to leave, which I appreciated. But I go to the Fillmore a handful of times a year. I have never been able to find street parking in Japantown so I always park in this garage. The cheapest times to park here are before noon and after three for $1 or $2 an hour. From noon to three, it's $4 per hour. If you want to spend a full day, the early bird parking is a pretty great deal for $13 before 8:30 am. It's always been really easy finding parking in this garage. Make sure to remember your parking space number and bring your ticket with you. After you pay for parking at one of the machines, you have 15 minutes to leave the garage so it's good to remember where you parked. I usually only stay 1 or 2 hours to go shopping and grab a crepe in Japantown so the most I've paid is $4. Actually, this is a good place to park if you're in Japan Town. It's not that expensive compared to parking around Golden Gate Park or in the financial district. It's clean and there's an attempt to provide some beauty with several murals and rock formations mimicking landscapes in Japan on the first floor. It also feels very safe with well-lit floors, clear and easy to read signage, and security present. We used this garage for a nice afternoon with friends. We went to a Korean restaurant and of course had to visit Sophie's Crepes right afterwards. Lots of places to browse through and enjoy, and all very near this garage. In comparison to other garage parking in San Francisco, I've found the rates here very cheap. The rates vary based on the time of day. After 3PM, the rates drops from $4 to $2 per hour. I believe it drops even more after 6PM. You can also get additional savings by validation at participating merchants. I validated my ticket at Nijiya and saved $2.00. Every store vary and may require a minimum purchase. You can either pay at a machine or see a teller. Machines are located near the stairways. Teller window is located at the main floor where you enter. They accept credit cards as well. Beware of tight parking spaces. I don't recommended parking an oversized vehicle here. THEY SAID THIS WAS A DAILY OCCURRENCE!!!!! If i could give this garage a lower rating i would!!! parked here for almost 2 and a 1/2 hours when we came back our car window had been smashed in! When we informed the workers they actually had one bag that was taken from our car and thankfully nothing was stolen out of the bag. They found it on the stairwell. We asked if they found our second bag they hadn't so we walked the whole garage and found our second bag on the floor in the stairwell, we also saw that TWO other cars had been broken into, one on each level of the garage all next to the stairwell. We asked to see security footage and they told us they don't have access and to contact a different company but at that point what use is it. Staff was somewhat helpful gave us bags to tape up the windows and a broom to sweep up all the glass. We also saw many homeless people on the top floor. We parked at this garage yesterday at 11:00 am, went to eat lunch and left at 12:30pm. We paid for our ticket at the self serve machine ($5). When we tried to exit Geary St side the ticket doesn't work! It just say invalid on their monitor and ejects the ticket back to the floor! We pushed the help button and waited for over 10 minutes to speak to a lady that was unhelpful! She said nobody was physically there to help us! This was ridiculous! We felt trapped! The car on the next lane also experienced the same! Some guy in the car behind him even went out and tried to lift the metal gate open for him to exit but the gate was so strong he couldn't even move it! Omg! We were being detained inside that garage with my 2 year old baby crying! This is definitely unlawful imprisonment! The lady told us to back out the car and try the Post St exit. My ticket was mixed up on the floor with 30+ others and I felt helpless! Luckily the driver behind said he noticed which ticket was ours and he picked it up for us! Thank you! So we tried again at the Post St exit, but now they want to charge us additional $3.00 because we were stuck for over 45 minutes!
