Referred to them by Google and Yelp. Been to their website to read up on Japanese Auto, since I have a Acura RDX. I must've emailed them 4 times, called probably the same amount. NOT ONE RESPONSE. Best auto shop experience I've ever had. Everyone was SO NICE. I had a weird shaking going on with my car on my 15 hour road trip, and this shop had good reviews and was close. They looked at my car quickly even though I didn't have an appointment, then took me back to physically show me what was wrong with it. It turned out to be something minor that I could fix once I was home, so they didn't do the work on it, but they told me exactly what needed to be done, how much it should cost (so no where would rip me off), and didn't even charge me for looking at my car. Ok so we were traveling through Toledo when we needed some repairs done. (we got a flat and in the process of getting our rusty wheel off the tow guy broke our brake line and overtightened our lugs so they just spun) Long story short we were expecting to pay quite a bit at the mercy of some unknown auto mechanic. I had a edict from my boss. Get a car, or get another job. He gave me time to save for it, and when I got the appropriate sum, I did what any normal, desperate person would do. Ask his best friend if he knew of anyone selling a car. Of course, my good friend Lindsay, also a cab driver happened to have what I needed. A 1987 Toyota Tercel. It looked rough having rust as its secondary color, but under the hood ran the engine of a car half it's age. I could have the car, or as he called it, The Doodlebug for a mere 600 dollars. i come from a long line of people who don't spend a lot of money on their cars. My father being my prime example. He once bought a 1960 Cadillac for 400 dollars, and it burnt more gas than a 747.I could write a whole book on the adventures we had with that thing, but this is about my car, not his. I picked the Doodlebug up early one Monday morning. I licensed it and did what anyone who hadn't had a car in a while would do. I drove it to Cleveland. Mr Last Minute strikes again. To make a long story less boring, I got back and drove it to Monroe where the Doodlebug stopped running. Well, not exactly not running, but not wanting to start. A quick phone call to my friend brought him to where I was stuck and by the middle of the next morning we had gotten the car to Japanese Auto. All that was needed was a new starter. It was put on faster than I could eat lunch and never had a minutes more trouble with it as long as I owned it. I did need a new head gasket, but even that was done and dealt with in a timely and not so costly manner. Head gaskets usually involve thousands of dollars and weeks in the shop. That repair took 3 days and cost 600 dollars. Not to bad to have a ride that ran. I wouldnt even think of not using Japanese Auto for any of my future purchases. The mechanics are experts in what they do and that is something in this world. One little warning. They don't like to work on domestic cars, so best not to ask. read more

These guys are great - it's hard to find honest mechanics in this town and this is the place. I've taken my car here several times and I've always been pleased. Their prices are reasonable and they won't try to fix anything that doesn't need it. My first experience was a broken autotensioner on my timing belt - after replacing it something was off and they took the engine apart 3 separate times to diagnose the problem, but only charged me once! I've also brought them American cars - they'll work on anything. read more

Japanese Auto are amazing. The check engine light came on suddenly on my Honda CR-V and a few minutes later, once I revved past 2800rpm, my engine stuttered and jerked back hard. It freaked me out. I tested it a few more times and the moment I passed 2800rpm it happened again without fail. I checked the Yelp reviews for mechanics in the area and these guys seemed to be the best. When I called in, they said they were slammed but they can still take me. When I arrived, their lot was full of parked cars waiting to be repaired (so they're popular, that's a good start). I dropped off my car on Wednesday evening. On Thursday at 10:45am, I got a call with a detailed diagnosis and an estimate, which was perfectly reasonable, about half the price of what I was expecting. They said it would be ready at 3:00pm. At 2:00pm, they called to say it was ready. Check engine light off, problem solved (it was a damaged V-Tec Solenoid that they replaced), and an oil refill and I was on the road quicker than I'd imagined. Friendly service, super efficient and honest, no scamming or ripping off here. I'm a fan. read more

HVAC on a 2014 Prius malfunctioning, First Toyota dealer service shop misdiagnosed the problem, repair estimate was $2500, needless to say didn't authorize the work. Second Toyota dealer diagnosed the problem correctly, estimate was $3300, walked away from them as well. At Japanese Auto Repair got the correct diagnosis, estimate was $300, obviously had them do the repair which solved the problem. Can't say enough about their expertise and level of service. read more

So just to update on this place - I had my "Service Engine" light go on in my Maxima and I had this quickly diagnosed at Autozone to read the codes (they do this for free) and found out that catalytic converter was throwing the code. I took my car to the Nissan dealer because I didn't know exactly what I needed to get done. They tell me that they have to replace all the catalytic converters and that I need a brake job and my AC hose was leaking Freon. They estimated $2300 for that work. Based on my previous experience at Japanese Auto Repair, I just called a mechanic to describe all the work that needed by done. He gave a chuckle when I told him what the dealer quoted me and estimated his own price based on recommended parts and he quoted me on the ballpark of $1700. So I took my car there and had them take a look at the car and give me a complete estimate of work and it turned out to be even less ($1650 after taxes). These guys saved me a bunch of money compared to the dealer (yeah i know it's the dealer but still) and they know what they're doing as well as provide an honest estimate. Ultimately it cost me another $100 to get the car diagnosed at the dealership, so I will just be taking my car directly here if I have any future issues(hopefully none too soon). read more

Instead of charging me for brand new brakes and rotors (which they afterword told me I really didn't need), they just fixed what I had and put me back on the road for less than $100. They just guaranteed my complete loyalty for all my auto repair needs and I'm telling everyone about them. read more

The best Auto Servicing ever. My accord had a transmission issue and I went to Weber and Lays, however they were charging a lot for the repair. Japanese told me upfront what my options were and there won't be any charges for checking the problem either. For a genuine advise, I always call them. read more

My whole family has been taking their subarus to this shop for about 6 years. Prices have always been the lowest in the area and service was always quick and complete. New CV joint? Over night. Bad alternator? Parts on hand. There is really nothing more to say about this shop besides they are great at what they do. IF you have any sort of Japanese car, this is the place to take it. I told my friend about the place and he had his rear brake lines replaced for a fraction of what the dealers wanted. After doing some of the easy fixes himself, he ended up saving near $1000 dollars. I would still keep specialty stuff to the specialty shops though. My Forester had its transmission rebuilt elsewhere and I can't vouch for their exhaust work. read more

The young dude at Yark Subaru Service Department Counter gave me attitude, so I came to Japanese Auto instead of that "Big Boss" place. I saw 2 guys inside the garage, the boss came out and asked if I need any help politely. They don't usually take appointment but asked me to drop my car later, b'cause they were having a busy week ( I saw at least 10 cars parked at the place). I dropped the car several days earlier for some reasons, but It took him only half an hour to figure out what was wrong with it (which is pretty fast), then he gave me a quote which was way cheaper than I expected. He then told me I didn't have to change some stuff that are still actually okay, save me a lot of money! He doesn't just fool you by telling you this need to changed and that has to be replaced like those " big boss" place and other chain stores do. Also, they are very efficient. It took him only one day to finish the work , which the "Big Boss' told me they need 2 and the half days and tried to change me 3 times more. I'm impressed and appreciate the work they did. The problems are always fixed in a timely manner and for next to half the cost of the dealer quotes. I don't even bother with the dealers anymore. For many years I have been telling anybody needing auto repair work to any vehicle to go to these guys. When I need something taken care of on any of my cars, I just drop the car off, tell them what the symptoms are, and ask them to take a look at it and also let me know about anything else they would want to fix/attend to if they were me. They call me back promptly, let me know what the cost is, get approval to fix/repair. There have been plenty of times they have brought an issue to my attention and recommended against going for the "Cadillac" fix/repair because it wouldn't be cost effective given the age, condition of the car, etc.--and then have given me a recommendation of what they would do instead if they were me. That's what I love about these guys: they look to fix/repair/take care of the car as if they were in my shoes. I trust them without question, they're very knowledgeable, they do great work, they're quick, they're thorough, and they're good guys. read more
