The proverbial "hole in the wall" and I wasn't even sure it was open. But we were hungry for Asian food and thought we'd give it a try. There are no lunch specials so we ordered dinner entrees which come with a very thin soup or a very small salad but no appetizers. Our 3 orders were: Curry Special (3 meats), Ginger Chicken, and Sushi Crunch roll. The egg roll was good sized but a bit on the oily side. My order was the curry and I was not impressed. Other than hot, it was fairly bland. If it had only been my order, I'd have given 2 stars. But the other family members liked the ginger chicken and the crunch roll so I bumped the rating up to 3 stars. read more

Japanese kitchen is a great little hole in the wall restaurant that I remember as being one of the "go- to spots" for students in Hollister. The prices are quite reasonable, and the food is good/flavorful. It is a very small restaurant with only a handful of tables, but it is a great place to try out if you're in the area and like Japanese food/hibachi. My usual order is chicken teriyaki with friend rice/hibachi vegetables. It seems that they do not typically serve a very large portion of meat, but that is the only complaint I have. I have eaten there with people who order double meat/double fried rice and I don't remember it costing much to do so. read more

I ordered food delivery from Door Dash and it arrived fresh and tasty. I had the chicken katsu and it was delicious. My friend had two different sushi rolls which he loved. I was honestly surprised by how good it was considering it was delivered. I will eat here again, no question! read more

We hadn't been here in some time, so stopped for a quick supper. 5:30 on a Monday evening, and we were the only customers. The server audibly sighed when we walked in as she had to put her cell phone down and stand up to greet us. She told us to sit wherever we wanted. We picked a table by the window before realizing it was inhabited by dead flies, both on the table and lining the window ledge. Not a great first impression. Our server took our drink order and filled it quickly, then returned to her phone while we looked over the menu. She gave us a few minutes, then came to take our order. I ordered the Heart Attack (stuffed jalapeños), and she said "Oh, we don't have that anymore." My second choice was chicken katsu. My husband ordered house fried rice. Both came with choice of soup or salad, I chose salad and he got miso soup. Salad was half a cup of shredded cabbage with ginger dressing. It was extremely cold, fresh, and good. It was also about 4 bites' worth. Husband's soup was "meh....it's SOUP". Our entrees came. My chicken came with fried rice and vegetables. There was a huge pile of fried rice, 1/4 cup of vegetables and an already sliced chicken cutlet. I don't eat rice, so I can't comment on that, but the two forkfuls of veggies were good, and so was the chicken. No one else came in while we were there. When we went to pay (which elicited yet another sigh from our server) there was a sushi menu, which we'd never been offered. Oh well, good to know. The food is good, if sparse. The service and cleanliness are not tolerable. We won't return. read more

A quaint but homey restaurant. Definitely very small, so would not be a good place to go if they're busy, but when I went with my family it wasn't crowded so we got seated immediately. It's a hole in the wall that you wouldn't immediately associate with good food, but don't judge a book by its cover. I got the hibachi shrimp with miso soup, and it was all very delicious. The shrimp good well, and the rice was very fluffy and soft, seasoned so nicely. And the soup was very tasty as well (I'd never had miso, so for a first time it was very good). Overall, if you're in Branson and near this restaurant and like Asian food, give it a shot! read more

The friendly service is this restaurant's only saving grace. The gyoza was deep fried and more similar to a tater tot. The eel sushi roll was truly disgusting and the spicy tuna barely edible. This used to be my favorite little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. The last 2 times eating there have been disappointing. Burnt rice, flavorless, tiny scallops. It used to be a really good place I would recommend. It is sad to watch one of my favorite places go downhill. I am guessimg the ownshership changed. I hate McDonalds, but you'd probably get better food cheaper there. The only reason for 2 stars is the salad with ginger dressing is still amazing, but its hardly a reason to tolerate everything else thats bad. read more

I have been meaning to try this very small establishment for some time and now kicking myself for not trying it earlier. First of all this place is definitely a hole in the wall with only 8 small tables inside. The prices are extremely reasonable and the waitress was fast and efficient. I ordered the miso soup, Japanese Salad, gyoza and the Hibachi steak dinner all to go. The soup was light and delicious, the salad consisted of a nice crunchy cabbage which I'm not used to, but was paired with a creamy ginger dressing that I'm definitely used to and I've so missed from Memphis. The only problem is I wanted to drink that Dressing so I'll just ask for more next time. The gyoza was freshly made and the filling along with the homemade dipping sauce was delicious. The Hibachi steak and veggies had that yummy Hibachi smoked flavor with the steak being a beautiful medium rare paired with fried rice. All in all, everything was delicious and I'm completely satisfied. I'll definitely return again. read more

The shredded cabbage "salad" was served with just a little dressing. The fried rice was overcooked as well as the vegetables, beef and 2 pieces of shrimp. The flavor was terrible. My husband got one of the rolls and said it was nothing special. I usually try places twice just in case it was a bad day but not going back to this one. read more

This restaurant is a great example of "you get what you pay for." If you want some basic Japanese dishes, this place has it and for a low cost too. In a word I can describe the food and the service as nasty. It was so just long grain rice cooked with some beef. It was very sad. The chopsticks had small splinters on them. The server that came out did not speak good English so he did not take our order correctly. The order came out missing a plate of food. That was very sad and disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant or any of the Japanese kitchen food. The tables are jammed into each other so you sit elbow to elbow with everyone else they might as well have eaten off of our plate. The atmosphere is very poor. This would be a restaurant to miss. This used to be my favorite little hole in the wall local place to eat. What happened?? "No sushi until further notice"? Today my Hibachi Shrimp was a huge disappointment. Very few vegetables, luke warm shrimp, & rice scattered all over the plate. I'm thinking there's been either a health department citation or they lost a good chef.
