I had my first root canal today and was so nervous! Dr. Foreman and his whole team was amazing. First, they got me in for an emergency appointment within an hour of my dentist office calling them. When I got there I was greeted by a very sweet woman at the front desk. Then as my appointment began everyone was so happy and kind and they immediately made me feel calm. After Examining me for next steps they knew doing the procedure would keep them there well past their time to close. However, they all said no problem and said they knew I was in pain and they'd be happy to stay late. Then came time for the shots and i didn't feel a thing. "So let me tell you about my root canal!" - That's the kind of talk at any party that no one wants to hear; unless of course, you've been experiencing some world class pain in your molars! Wonder of wonders! There are people who specialize in doing root canals! Day after day, that's what they do! I love specialists! My first root canal was by a general practitioner. This was maybe 20 years ago. I do not remember much about it except that it was "not fun". Things have changed. What I noticed was the 3-D that they took before they took the regular shots. (This contraption operates much like a CAT scan tunnel - but it is only two wings that fly around your head as you stand.) The other noticeable innovation was an electronic "needle" that administered the pain injections. I did not look this one over, but can only report that the injections (3) were of no consequence on the fear and pain side. I think much of this is due to the skill of Dr. Fortman who has skillful hands, obsessive concern to make the experience painless and the experience of having done countless people before me. (I suppose the "electronic" part allowed Dr. Fortman to focus more on keeping the needle in place rather than operating the plunger.) Dr. Fortman and his side-kick Katrina (I don't want to call her a dental assistant because she was more like a partner. The two of them work like a well oiled machine. I don't hear a lot of "Get me this, get me that and hey where are you going?" - She's handing him tools and attending to those duties that require a 3rd, 4th and 5th hand silently and with focused care that I could see in her eyes though my Terminator sun glasses they gave me to wear.) did my root canal in surprising speed! There was no fooling around - all the bad stuff was removed quickly. While all of this was going on, I recalled a passage I read in the book Blood and Guts: A Short History of Medicine by Roy Porter. 18th surgical work was done without anesthetics. So, the best surgeons were those who were quick and clean. The subject was kidney stones and the passage reads thus: "The latter [the surgeon's name] won fame for excising bladder stones with exceptional rapidity - whereas other surgeons might take twenty, he could complete the excruciatingly painful knife-work, performed without anaesthetics, in a couple of minutes flat. As a result he commanded huge fees, apparently up to 500 guineas". (500 guineas back then is about $200,000 today.) When I read this, I envisioned the surgeon coming in with a sharp knife and a big grin, then a flash of steel, a flurry of his hands and the operation was over! (Don't you hate it when you tell yourself jokes in the dental chair while someone is giving you a root canal and you want to laugh but can't?) Well, it occurred to me that such an operation was possible because the surgeon was skillful and had done the trick many times. Dr. Fortman and Katrina are like that. My #3 upper right molar was just like all the others that he'd done. I expect he had done the procedure so many times that it was just another walk in the park. Be ready to pay for you nice new root canal before you leave. I didn't have my guineas because I had come straight from my primary dentist's office. Not a problem. While I might forget my wallet, I never forget my phone. A single tap of my Google Pay and the guineas were transferred. Smiles all around! I had a root canal yesterday with Dr.Vu. I was in pains for 2 weeks. it was a complicated root canal and Dr. Vu and Katrina his assistant worked enormously hard for 3 hours to save my tooth. This office is awesome. Staff is so friendly and helpful. Very clean office space. I went for a root canal, which is no fun, but had one of the best experiences. The dentist, Jarad, was so friendly and talked through the whole process, explaining what he was doing and how long it would take for each step. This helped with my anxiety towards dental work. Wow! I could not be happier than I am with my root canal...honestly, what a pleasure in so many ways. I really needed it...waited a bit to long denying the increasing discomfort and then on an emergent basis - Dr. Fortman and his staff made time in their schedule for me...same day...as corny as it sounds, I went in with a frown and came out with a smile. The office was clean and addressed all the covid precautions one would demand, the practice staff, Jessica and Marney, were pleasant and transparent from costs to wait time (BTW, the wait was minimal, less than 10 minutes for someone added on :-), and Dr. Fortman and his dental assistant, Katrina, could not have been more attentive and professional. Every step was explained, time was taken to make sure I was always comfortable and post procedure care was a discussion not just a list of to do's (although, I got that too). Why do we dread dentistry? Fear of pain, right? If you want to experience neither fear nor pain, do I have a doctor for you! Let me tell you about him and what he did for me, especially if you are a chicken like I am. I had been suffering awful pain for 4 days. Went to a general dentist who said my problem called for a specialist. Even though I live 250 miles away from his office, it seems Dr. Fortman is a borderline legend here in town among the other dentists. I called his office and mercifully they agreed to see me the very next day! It's hard to be happy about anything when you are in agony, but I got close right there. I was dreading this because I was in so much pain that I figured the treatment would be excruciating. Not so fast! I never counted on a doctor like Dr. Fortman. They took quick x-rays. Even a 3-D xray, which was fascinating and ultimately useful in his diagnosis. Then they found me a chair and sat me down to dread my future. I should say that there were 4 others in there, and a waiting room full of people, all of them holding their mouth and looking like I felt. I heard an assistant say that I was the fourth "emergency" that day, on top of his regularly scheduled patients. Suddenly Dr. Fortman was at my side, apologizing for making me wait (I was lucky he agreed to see me on such short notice at all). He quickly looked at all the x-rays, tested my teeth, and found the problem. An abscess at the tip of the root of a tooth I'd had a root canal on 15 years before. They way he talked about it and told me what he planned to do just set me at ease immediately. I was terrified, he was absolutely confident. A few minutes later I had the same confidence. So then came the shots, which figured going into swollen and painful flesh would be awful to experience. He shot me up on the outside gums and then turned to something else. I asked him if he actually got the needle in far enough because I didn't feel anything. I was concerned cuz I didn't want him drilling on me if I wasn't completely numb, right? He said he did and I should be feeling it any second. Sure enough. Then he said he needed to inject me through the roof of my mouth. I told him I knew it was going to hurt, it always did there, but go ahead, I'm ready. He said it didn't have to hurt, that he had a trick. He would count to three and then do his trick and stick me. 1...2...3...and I felt something akin to a tap on my shoulder, but on the roof of my mouth. And then like 3 seconds later he turned away to do something. I had to ask, are you sure you stuck me deep enough? I didn't feel anything. He laughed and said he was sure. I said I could still sense something, it might be discomfort, I'm not sure. He replied that he did not want me to feel anything at all, so he gave me a bit more in the roof of my mouth. This time I was relaxed, I knew now this guy was a master of his craft. Sure enough, I felt nothing and then I was completely numb and out of pain for the first time in 4 days. Then he told me that he's going to drill right through the crown, down the root canal, get all the failed packing out of there, and let the abscess drain out. Then he'd disinfect it, pack it pack up, seal it, and send me on my way. And that's what he did, along with Kim his assistant, both working together like an experienced team. Almost like they've done this before. The whole way he talked to me, interacted with his assistant, and went about his work. I lay there knowing I was in good hands, that there were a dozen others in agony waiting for his services as soon as he was done with me, but I was his only concern at this moment. He didn't do part of it, then skip out to do a part on someone else, then another person, then get back to me. No, in about 30 to 45 minutes he was done. Infection dealt with, cleaned out, root canal packed CORRECTLY this time, sealed, and out I went with Dr. Fortman telling me that I was his star patient of the day, made it easy on him, a delight to work on, etc etc. I was going ME? What about YOU? I couldn't praise him enough, but he deflected, saying well I do this every day! Well, a lot of people do what they do every single day, but they aren't as good as this guy is at what HE does. Heck, I myself am not as good at my job as he is at his job. See Dr. Fortman if you have any kind of root canal problem. Drive from hundreds of miles away if you have to. You won't be sorry. It does not get better than this man and his staff. read more

This was first time for me to visit Dr. Fortman and I had great experience with him and his staff. I was referred to him by my general dentist to have my molar checked and see if I needed root canal or teeth extraction. After filling out the usual dental forms, I was seated at the chair and waited for Dr. Fortman. Everyone was very friendly and put my mind in ease. And then Dr. Fortman arrived and I can tell he was really good at what he does and his staffs were all very professional as well. He took some X-ray of my painful molar and precisely explained to me what is going on and showed me what he can do to fix it. We decided to do root canal instead of pulling the molar out (which is much better option) and he started the procedure. This is my second time getting root canal done (my other one was on one of the corner molar as well) and his preparation and procedure were top notch. It really put my mind at peace knowing that Dr. Fortman is really professional and good at what he does. He got my root canal done in about hour and half and I was out of his office. If I ever had to do any root canal done in the future (which I really hope not...) I will be coming back to Dr. Fortman, and recommend him to everyone I know who needs one as well! read more

I went into my appointment mentally prepared for a miserable time. All my friends were telling me how horrible their root canals were, etc. Sitting in the chair I was anticipating the pain but let me tell you, THERE WAS NO PAIN. NONE. I actually didn't believe him that the procedure was complete. I traveled 4 hours to see Dr. Fortman and I would travel even longer if I ever need another root canal. And now I find myself needing a root canal. Fortunately my former boss had just interacted with Dr. Fortman and said" I've got the guy for you". It stinks to have to get your teeth drilled and anxiety generally accompanies the pain leading to needing an endontist so, ugh! It is not the best circumstances but if it has to happen than Dr. Fortman and his office assistances make it quick and bearable. They are so nice and check constantly to be sure you are as comfortable as you can be and they keep you informed along the way. They helped me to calm down (I had a terrible experience with a different Dr. which has left me extremely fearful and tense) and it was over before I knew it. I am also at a loss for words. DR Fortman kicked me out of his office and banned me on site because HE was unable to understand my story of my dental problem and the timeline of events that I presented. No matter how many times I stated when the root canal was done, VS when the swelling started post op (9 months later) he kept reversing the time frames and blaming me saying that I was unable to communicate. He obviously had severe difficulty comprehending MY STORY and blamed me and tried to make ME feel bad about it. He also continued to poke me in the upper bicep repeatedly which was annoying and highly inappropriate. He seemed to do this as an "urge" for me to answer his questions and his claim of needing me to "clarify". He gets physical for nothing. His dental assistant lambasted me for not taking a blood pressure reading on my wrist after I stated 3 times that I would not do it until I knew if I was having a procedure or not WHICH WAS COMPLETELY UNKNOWN AND WOULD BE BASED ON THE OUTCOME OF MY EXAM. She gave me a very sarcastic "OOOOKKKKKK" after the third time but I stood my ground. Blood pressure reading on the wrist causes me extreme discomfort. I explained that to her and ASKED if they could take my BP by the traditional arm cuff method. They did not offer this at the office which was NOT MY PROBLEM. I was not refusing I was explaining my reason and even promised that I would do it if a procedure was to be done. Between my wrist BP rejection at consult, and my uber confusing medical timeline of my problematic tooth that I explained 7 times thoroughly, my CBC scan was ejected by DR Fortman without being seen, I was told to leave the office and he banned me from his practice on site. Now it gets much much worse. I begged for a second chance and for help saying how much PAIN i was in which they KNEW explicitly when I booked the appt. They said no and demanded I leave. I obliged realizing at that point they could decide to be horrible human beings and call the police for me "trespassing" like any other business who orders you to leave. Even though I did absolutely nothing and I probably should have called the police for the excessive rough arm poking. But I obliged. After that between me voicing my hurt and frustration at the payment desk when they refunded me over 2 thousand dollars i had PAID FOR A ROOT CANAL RETREATMENT, allegedly some old bats in the waiting room felt threatened by my presence and "behavior". I went to the restroom before exiting and the desk woman named Marney was standing right in front of the bathroom door like a security guard, she then escorted me out. She then LOCKED THE OFFICE DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and she drew the shades. So boys and girls ,this office insulted me, banned me, treated me like a criminal, and locked me out of their office. Basically accused me of things I did not do, and told me later on the phone that their "WITNESSES feared for their lives." Do you know how insulting this is? They were trying to make a comparison to me, and a mass shooter. END OF STORY. I am a female, too. Latest 15 years of mass shooters, males in late teens to 20's. I am 5'2, 32 years old, female. And did absolutely nothing of the sort, or anything wrong. Now I know I am expecting Mr Fortman to deny this story and write to me, since he writes back to all his negative reviews. I needed a root canal on one of my molars that's been nothing but a troublemaker. My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Fortman, even though he was out of my network I was okay paying more for a better provider. Dr. Fortman took his time explaining what he thought might be happening and made me feel at ease regarding pain since my molar has always had a difficult time with numbing. After I was numbed I didn't feel a single thing and the whole root canal lasted less than half hour. In fact, the most uncomfortable part of the whole root canal was taking the x-rays because of the awkward positioning of the x ray positioners required for the images. I was also really impressed with the way Dr. Fortman carried himself and how confidently he carries out his work. I'll be recommending Dr. Fortman to friends and family. read more

My #2 tooth, way in the back was hurting intermittently for a few months. It was sensitive to hot and cold and when I asked my dentist about it they couldn't see anything definitive on X-ray so they suggested I go see Dr. Fortman for further evaluation. His efficient staff were able to schedule me in a very timely fashion, which I really appreciated given the discomfort I was in. Dr. Fortman did some further x-rays and comparison testing on my teeth with a cold probe and when he got to #2 I felt a powerful ache that would not go away. It was very clear to me we had identified the problem and I needed a root canal. Dr. Fortman is a very smart and direct guy with a wry sense of humor. Maybe some other patients don't appreciate a sense of humor but I did. He really does all he can to make a root canal as pleasant as possible. I let him know I was nervous about any pain and he was sensitive and respectful about that. Throughout the entire procedure, I can honestly say he never hurt me -- but a root canal is a very awkward uncomfortable procedure especially on a tooth way in the back-top. You have your mouth propped open for about an hour as they do a lot of drilling and careful filing. It's not fun. Dr. Fortman and his assistant were extremely professional through the whole procedure and he checked his work with multiple x-rays through the process, for accuracy. For a patient, the most important thing is to relax in the chair and just breath. Just do that, don't squirm, and it's over pretty fast. Dr. Fortman's technical/medical knowledge is terrific and he was able to answer my questions about the procedure completely and in detail. I am writing this review one week after my root canal and it was a total success. All the pain I had been having for several months is gone, and only now do I realize how much pain I was in. Dr. Fortman has been doing root canals for a long time and has done thousands of them. That is the kind of experience and expertise I like in a doctor. If I ever need another root canal, he would be my first choice without question. read more

I saw Dr. Fortman last week on an emergency basis. I saw my dentist earlier that day after several days of suffering and he immediately knew a root canal would be necessary. He called Dr. Fortman and sent me directly to his office, just a couple of minutes away. His staff was friendly and very professional, advising me that they had other patients, would need to squeeze me in, and I would have to wait a bit. The wait was mercifully short -- and well within the range of reasonable -- particularly given the circumstances. Dr. Fortman's demeanor instilled instant confidence. He was able to clearly advise me of what was occurring, making the process completely tolerable. I cannot describe precisely what it was, but it was just obvious to me in the way he handled himself that he is extremely skilled and comfortable performing a root canal. And he remained very focused on the task, while still being able to communicate exactly what was occurring. I'm not sure if it is Dr. Fortman's skill, or the procedure in general, but I have to say that a root canal was not a bad experience for me at all. In fact, the relief was almost instantaneous; he prescribed me pain medication but I had no need to take it. read more

Ever since I was a kid my teeth have been some sort of cosmic joke (I think Seinfeld did an episode on them once). Having teeth like mine is like having 26 bosses that lead you around by your ear and make you work weekends. So when my husband and I finally got pregnant with our first you would think I would have been somewhat aware of the fact that pregnancy+teeth go together like orange juice and toothpaste. Ha. Some people just gotta learn the hard way I guess. As soon as month 6 of my pregnancy rolled around BAM. I got hit in the lower right side of my jaw with a tooth pain so bad it felt like a Louisville Slugger popped me in the face. I go to my (wonderful) regular dentist and she regretfully informs me that I need a root canal and sends me to the specialist Dr. Fortman to have it taken care of. Thank. God. I have been to his office before a couple times in the past and always had a great experience so I knew I was in good hands. After taking extra care to do everything safely in consideration of my pregnancy he knocked that first root canal out in an hour. AN HOUR. Almost every other DDS I've ever had a root canal from has NEVER had me in the chair for less than four hours. Dr. Fortman has me in and out in one! He is extremely organized and knows how to balance his patients, while still somehow making you feel like you're the only patient there. It's actually really impressive to be honest. After my first root canal I was ready to have my life back and get back to preparing the nursery, reading the pregnancy books, getting ANXIETY from the pregnancy books, watching tv to distract myself, cry at ASPCA commercials ect....( all the usual rides at the prepartum carnival) unfortunately I was hit AGAIN in the same week with ANOTHER tooth in need of a root canal and had to go back to Dr. Fortman's to get THIS one done now. (All in all I ended up having three different root canals in a month. Yep) and once again my experience was amazing. Here are the main highlights of Dr. Fortman's practice: 1.) Chairside manner. I can't emphasize this enough. He and his assistants are always in a good mood, he is always cracking jokes and putting you at ease even when you're anxious and in pain. It's truly appreciated. 2.) His staff is just wonderful. I dealt the most with Tatum, Marcie, Kim and a few others whose names I didn't catch but were spectacular. Tatum is patient and friendly, Kim is cheerful and sweet, and Marcie is so personable and upbeat and makes you laugh even when your face is numb. But let me please reiterate that ALL the staff that dealt with me was excellent. Each and every one (I just didn't catch all their names) 3.) the environment of the office is so relaxing and aesthetically pleasing, good temperature, good music, good accommodations. They really go all out for you. 4.) they are PATIENT with you. This is a biggie for me because for two weeks straight I was kind of a pest (they certainly didn't make me feel that way but I felt it about myself personally. Tooth pain will do that to you). Even when I had to call them just to get reassurance about my recovery or advice on how to hold over until my procedures they always took their time with me on the phone to be supportive and give me the information I needed. Considering that I'm definitely not their only patient that was being needy at the time their gentleness and compassion really is noteworthy and left an impression on my husband and I. So in closing let me just say that Dr. Fortman is truly someone who deserves to be praised- he and his staff are just special. They do great work, they are fast, they are personable and they make you feel at home even when you're feeling your worst. Dr. Fortman was referred to me by the dental assistant who works there. Everyone came across caring and nice at first... I supposedly needed a retreatment of a root canal. (After work was done initial pain was still there and problem was not fixed) While Dr. Fortman was performing the procedure he BROKE OFF TIP OF TOOL up by the roots of my tooth. He then left it there and filled to tooth up. Once he was done working is when he decided to tell me this had happened. He thought explaining it to me and sending me on my way was the right thing to do. No money off and they wanted to charge me to fix the problem I countinued to have after the retreatment was done. When I tried to discuss this with the office I was given the run around until I talked to the Dr himself and he became defensive and manipulative... HE SAID he breaks off tools in peoples mouths at least 1-2 times a year!! BEWARE!!!!! read more

I am a local dentist and I regularly refer patients to Dr Fortman for root canal treatment. He is very personable, gentle and makes the whole process very comfortable for our patients. When our patients come back from his office, they are usually pleasantly surprised that their root canal went so easy. I was able to squeeze in an appointment for a root canal right away so I wasn't in pain for very long. I asked to be put out, but couldn't since I didn't have a ride home. Since Dr. Fortman numbed me up completely, the root canal wasn't painful. After it was done, I was numb, which lasted a few hours, and I then I wasn't in any pain or even discomfort. read more

I recently visited Dr. Fortman Office to perform a root canal. Dr. Fortman is very skillful, thorough, and cares about the welfare of his patient. He constantly kept me advised as to the procedure and inquired if I was experiencing any pain. His staff is also polite, knowledgeable and friendly. I had my first root canal and he was awesome, he explains everything prior, during, and after in regards to procedure. This office is sparkly clean and furnished with the latest in technology.
