Dr. Anderson performed the root canal yesterday morning. This is my seventh root canal. I've had a couple done by my regular dentist, and the rest done by an old warhorse over the course of 10 years in his 70s who didn't want to retire. The 30,000' view - totally positive experience - from initial telephone contact and information giving, to arrival and the procedure itself. Dr. Anderson has a 3D imaging machine I'd not seen before. Now that was cool. But what impressed me the most was his ability to interpret the scans/images, ask questions, and arrive at a really pristine diagnosis. I'd had the normal intense pain from tooth #13, but had been unable to see my regular dentist for four days. By that time the pain had almost disappeared. The tooth causing the problems wasn't a problem any more. Still, it needed a root canal. I experienced no pain - a root canal these days is no different from my perspective as someone going through the procedure, than having a cavity filled. Dr. Anderson also discovered that the molar next to #13 was infected, but only enough that I was vaguely aware of a slight discomfort. That root canal was done by a regular dentist, not an endodontist. Unfortunately I'm going to need a reparative second root canal on that tooth. As an aside, last month my regular dentist had replaced an old crown with a new one on that tooth, and didn't catch the presence of an infection from the x-rays. Cudos to Dr. Anderson! Like others have reported, I got a phone call this morning from Dr. Anderson asking about my recovery from the root canal. I realized I'd not thought about the root canal at all this morning and that was my story. read more

I was referred to this office by my dentist after explaining my severe sensitivity to hot/cold temperatures on a specific tooth. After some X-rays and sensitivity tests, I got a root canal done on a SEPARATE tooth (not the sensitive one) so obviously, it didn't help. To make matters worse, the procedure caused a debilitating ear infection where I had to call out of work due to the pain (couldn't talk, eat/drink anything) and there was nothing that Dr. Anderson did to help. I had to go to my primary physician to get a stronger kind of antibiotics prescribed, as well as pain medication. After two weeks, I went back to Dr. Anderson for a follow up appointment and explained again that I can't eat or drink anything hot or cold because it hurts and all he said was that two other teeth might need root canals done but that he feels skeptical about doing multiple in the same area. He followed that up by saying that he's not the Endodontist that I am looking for. Awful experience. The one star is for the rest of the staff that were extremely friendly and helpful and made me feel welcome but I will definitely not be returning for anything tooth related to Dr. Anderson. read more

However the office continues to operate under his name and the front desk staff did not inform me of the doctor's departure at the time I made the appointment this morning. I was referred to Dr. Craig Anderson by my dentist for an exam and x-ray. I called the office for a quote for an appointment and the office quoted me $265 for an exam and x-ray appointment. I was then charged $420 for a 10 min visit. I felt I was taken advantage of and decided to contact a few other offices to get a quote for the same type of visit and no one was near their outrageous price, others ranged from $125- $300. Dr. Anderson is great! I found out yesterday from my regular dentist that I had to get a root canal, and my dentist recommended Dr. Anderson. I'm very lucky to have been sent to him and to have gotten an appointment today (after I called yesterday)! Wish he did other things other than root canals, I would love him as my regular dentist... but he is AMAZING at what he does and it shows in his work. I'm a HUGE dental chicken and the thought of a root canal drove me to tears. But from the second I stepped into the office and spoke with his dental assistant (I believe there are two), Judy, I knew I was in good hands. She is such a calm and relaxing presence, but she also keeps your spirits up when you're as nervous as I am. Once the x-rays & consult were done, Dr. Anderson got to work. He is very sensitive to his patient's pain and wants to make sure that you are completely comfortable and numb before he begins the actual procedure. He is very thorough and keeps you completely in the know the entire time. I opted to listen to a podcast and shut my eyes during the actual procedure, but you can do whatever makes you most at ease. He's an amazing endodontist and anyone who goes to him is extremely lucky since they are in such capable hands! This probably isn't as thorough of a review that he deserves, but I honestly need to get over the fact that I got a root canal before I can write any more. I hope I never have to get another root canal, but if I do... I will be coming back to Dr. Anderson! Called in a few months ago. Theyv'e got a ritzy mentality. Before getting my root canal I asked what type of methods they use. The nurse did not know and thought that I was questioning their quality of service. I still made a appointment with them. When I asked to reschedule two days later they said fine, but then quickly decided not to treat me at all because I cancelled within 48 hours. They were very unprofessional by not telling me any rules about rescheduling and then leaving me without an appointment. Stay away if you want good explanations from patient people. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Anderson and his staff. My seven year old broke off almost all of his front tooth yesterday at 5:15pm. I called his office - we were not even a patient of his - my dentist was unavailable - and even though they had already turned on their answering service when Dr. Anderson heard that it was a seven year old he stayed in the office to wait for us for an hour as we drove through traffic. Here's a summary of my review for all of us TL;DR types (full review follows): Dr. Anderson is not our dentist, but was referred to us when my 7 yr old knocked his front tooth out. He not only saw us immediately, but he reopened his office after hours to do so. We live in Santa Monica, meaning that we had to fight rush hour traffic at 6pm to even get there. So he and his staff, who had their coats on and were walking out the door, had to wait around for nearly an hour just so we could get to him. No one complained to us. Not only did Dr. Anderson did an amazing job repairing the tooth, he was masterful at treating our son. He treated him like an adult, with respect and sensitivity. He was not patronizing or condescending. He was wonderful. Go to him. ----Full Review----- Dr. Anderson is not our regular dentist. And that's so unfortunate, we should correct that. My seven-year-old fell down our patio stairs and broke his left front tooth in half diagonally. This was at about 5pm on a Monday. We called our regular dentist and she said to put the tooth we'd found into a small bag of milk to keep it moist and to give her a call the next day and maybe she'd see him on Wednesday, the first day she'd be back in the office (she doesn't work Monday or Tuesday). This didn't sit well with neither myself nor my wife, so my wife got to work and eventually was referred to Dr. Anderson. When she called his office it was closed (it was after 5:30p by this point). She left a message with his answering service and kept searching. A few minutes later his office called back and asked what was going on. After explaining the situation they said to bring our son in. Again, this was after the office was closed. Both he and his staff were getting ready to go home. Imagine the feeling you get when the work day is finished and you've turned off your computer, pushed your chair in, put on your jacket, and are ready to leave. No imagine someone saying, "Hey, we're going to hang around and work for a few more hours." But no one was anything except courteous to us. Once they heard a 7 yr old needed help, they responded with kindness and generosity, without acting like they were doing anything special. The feeling we got was, "Of course we'll help. That's what we do. We're just sorry this happened." Keep in mind that we live in Santa Monica and Dr. Anderson's office is in Century City and it was approaching 6pm on a monday. They all had to just wait around while my wife fought traffic to get to them. The care they provided was phenomenal. Dr. Anderson and his team repaired my son's tooth so that it looks like new. They didn't rush, and Dr. Anderson held to his high standards, making sure to do it as close to perfect as it could be. It honestly looks like it did before the accident and my son came home as happy as normally is. He even said the numbing shots didn't hurt. And one of the most impressive aspects of his treatment was that Dr. Anderson never spoke down to our son. He treated him with kindness and respect, in a manner that both comforted our son and made him feel very adult. When our son asked if the shots were going to hurt, Dr. Anderson answered honestly and with sympathy. Yes it will hurt, but it won't be for long. And throughout the procedure he explained everything he was doing. "I'm filing your tooth to smooth out this edge," "I'm going to use this bright light to help seal the bond," and so on. If you need (or think you may need) a root canal, you're probably not very happy. In fact, you're probably stressed out, scared and may want to cry. Dr. Anderson, on top of being a technically skilled endodontist, really understands patients anxieties. He is extremely throrough, asks lots of questions and makes sure you feel comfortable. He was also available 24/7 via a messaging service in case I had any concerns. He also is great about following up after the fact. I came in wanting to bawl my eyes out, and left feeling totally at ease. As for technical capabilities, I had my original root canal botched my a general dentist. It was a complicated case, but Dr. Anderson was able to fix the previous work and I have had no problems since. I would strongly recommend going to a specialist (endodontist) rather than a general dentist if you need a root canal for this very reason. Like many people today I found Dr. Anderson by online reading all of his positive reviews. I had a problematic tooth that had been through two failed root canals by another dentist. Dr. Anderson listened to the history and was able to successfully redo the root canal and treat the infection. He was very skilled and focused while he worked and incredibly, I felt no pain when gave me the Novocaine shots or during the procedure. He also called me after the procedure to check in. Being an Endodontist Dr Anderson deals with situations that your usual dentist doesn't handle so from the get go you know that the procedures he does are more involved and usually more painful than an ordinary dentist's visit. I don't mind saying that at 60, I was a little nervous. Never had a root canal and never heard anything good about it. It didn't help that I had an infection on top of it. As nice as the office personnel were, I was still quite nervous when I sat down in the chair. They were reassuring, but that wasn't going to help my apprehension. Of course if always happens on a weekend or holiday. My toothache reached maximum level the day before Thanksgiving. Dr. Anderson took my phone call on the eve and again on Thanksgiving Day and gave me the best advice to calm the pain until I could make an emergency appointment the day after. I can't recommend this office enough. My husband was in extreme pain after a filling came loose in one of his teeth and there was a sudden burst of cold and biting sensitivity. Our dentist fixed the filling and then referred us to Dr Anderson for a root canal in the adjacent tooth (which my husband thought was the source of the pain). Dr Anderson did extensive x-rays, bite tests, cold tests and my husband was surprised to discover that he wasn't having any pain from the tooth that we thought needed the root canal. Apparently all of his pain was from that lost filling which, once replaced, solved the problem. It is astounding and very gratifying to have found someone who put my husbands care above money. He could have easily done the root canal, made several thousand dollars and none of us would have been the wiser. Setting aside the question of fee, since Century City/Beverly Hills office locations mean hefty fees, I'll leave that out of the equation. I went to see this endodontist on the basis of a referral from my own dentist, and had a nightmare experience. I am pretty stoic when it comes to pain, so when I say I was in AGONY, that is an understatement. All I wanted was relief from the pain. It was pretty obvious that I needed a root canal. All the other descriptions of Dr. Anderson as being sweet and patient, etc., are valid, but I didn't go there for a social encounter. I went there for the dreaded root canal. But I left without any procedure at all. Why? Because he "couldn't confirm" the diagnosis. What? Remember the old adage that if it waddles and quacks, it's probably a duck? So, Dr. Patience and Sweetness squirted HOT COFFEE into my mouth because he wanted to replicate the experience I described. I kept asking what the alternate explanation might be, and he said there is no alternate explanation, that I had all the signs of needing a root canal. Yet, he wanted to wait. Wait for what? I had been close to tears when I arrived, and barely made it to my car before bursting into tears of frustration and pain. Did I mention that I am a stoic when it comes to pain? Well, ditto when it comes to crying. Crying is NOT my default emotion. I sat in my car at nearly 5:00 PM and randomly phoned endodontists in the Beverly Hills area, and to my amazement I found one who said, "come right over." I don't want this to seem like an ad for another endodontist, so I won't say the name, but when I left his office at 6:30 PM, I had my root canal and have been pain-free ever since. Did I have a root canal that I didn't need? I doubt it. The duck is no longer quacking. Never will I set foot in that office again. read more
