the vets are good, kind, patient and i have no qualms with the care our dogs have received, but in the past 12 months, the costs have gone up significantly, and i might add, shamelessly. our dog had a "hot spot" which needed to be shaved .....fair enough. it took about a minute of the vets time to do so. $38 dollars for that item. the rest of the 15 minute exam and treatment totaled almost $200. c'mon, man, that ain't right. so i'm looking for a new clinic, because they couldn't have cared less when i suggested the cost was not in line with the service, or my expectations. read more

My experience with Dr. Micaela Brown has been exceptional. I've taken my kitty to her a number of times through the years. Dr. Brown has been skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate. She's an excellent communicator, taking time to explain what's going on and what my options are. Ari, the vet tech, asked the right questions recently which lead to my kitty's diagnosis and actions to control pain. Also, during the very early days of the pandemic, I had to put down my sweet 17 year old lab mix. While other clinics were not allowing people indoors, Jasper compassionately invited us inside on a cold and blustery day to spend our last moments together in their dimly lit, warm and comforting space. We continue to get good care here for our 10-year-old chihuahua mix. Happily our dog has been in good health and we mostly get the regular exam and vaccinations here. I took my older dog to Jasper Animal Hospital as I was referred by a family member. Overall the staff and vets are very nice and do well with pets. However, I have been taken aback by the focus on trying to add as many charges possible to a bill, some of which weren't even performed. My dog is 12 years old and had 6 teeth left. He had 36 removed for $900 back in San Diego two years ago. It was a matter of time to have the remaining teeth removed. Upon my first visit, the doctors and assistants were all very nice. However I was taken aback by their estimates. They assured these were on the high end but with some surprising additions. 1. If my dog stopped breathing, I had to agree in advance to pay $400 if i wanted them to perform CPR. We proceeded forward with the doctor calling me as soon as my dog went under. She informed me that 3 on one side would need to be taken out, and then called again when she got to the other side to let me know the other three needed to be removed. She then said the amount would go up again, and I was like come on, and she lowered it by $40. I ended up paying $1,131.54. After getting home I see that they charged me $215 for a professional polish and scale. A cleaning. I called this morning to understand why and ask it to be removed. The answer I got was they cleaned them so the charge stays. Why would you clean teeth you know you are removing. While they seem like very good Vets, its clear this place just wants to overcharge. I should have shopped around. Learned my lesson. I won't be back and strongly recommend you consider other care than ones that seem to be working from a $$ vs an overall care perspective. read more

Jasper really is the way to go if you are the type to treat your pets like they are family. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating & its a great value. I also have to point out that Dr. Crystal Warner is a remarkable human-being, and that makes her an amazing vet. The way she cares and treats our animals. I have been a client of Jasper for years and all of the staff have always been great. The doctors always seem to be really invested in making sure my dog and cat have the best experience possible. That being said, I was a little disappointed during my recent visit. I have never seen the techs wear anything but scrubs and during my appointment, the young lady that came in was wearing a vest and street clothes and her hair was a mess. Honestly, I wasn't sure if she was a employee or not. There also seemed to be a strong barn-like aroma after she left the room, which then set off my allergies. I have been very impressed by the professionalism of the JAH staff and I hope this was just a fluke and that the standards have not been lowered. read more

Our dog had a swollen gum, they said he beed $700 teeth cleaning. I did a quick google search, and a topical cream that costed $6 took care of it. Best vets ever! Every vet in this hospital has been amazing for my four dogs & cat. All of my friends take their pets here so when I needed a vet I naturally went there & was not disappointed. They are loving & uber attentive with emergency and check up needs. They call ME to follow up after an appointment or make sure one of my dogs or cat is doing ok, even in an emergency setting to go as far as to give me their personal cell phone numbers. They're understanding about my schedule and do everything possible to make the experience great. Dr. Space was exceptional in handling our you g dog when she had a respiratory emergency. She was detail oriented, kind and helpful. Really went above and beyond. Then a second time when the same dog was attacked by a neighbor dog, Dr. Space coordinates with the emergency vet to develop a long term care plan to nurse our dog back to health. Our older and larger dog has eye and heart problems and Dr Space has been great with her too. My cat hates going to the vet. It's probably the one thing she's afraid of, and the past two offices I've taken her to have been stressful for both of us. Past veterinarians have been uncomfortable with her hissing (she's never actually bit anyone, but I understand the liability), giving her a glance-over and telling me "well, from what I can tell, she seems fine." After awhile, this wasn't working. I wanted a REAL checkup. I was also told on a previous visit, without her gums even being thoroughly inspected, that she "probably needs a dental cleaning" and that I'd be charged ~600+, assuming no extractions were needed. Upon recommendation from my pet sitter, I decided to try Jasper Animal Hospital for a second opinion. From the moment I got there, things went more smoothly. They allowed me to bring her into a room right away, so she could get out of her carrier and sniff around a bit. The vet and vet technician were smartly cautious, but confident around her, having suggestion of treats to calm her, giving her space while we talked so she didn't feel threatened, and allowing ME to hold her when she got her rabies vaccination and to open her mouth for them to check out her teeth. Turns out, she doesn't have signs of tartar buildup, OR gingivitis, so a cleaning isn't necessary! Also, Dr. Harris gave me the info of their office vet who does house visits, so in the future, I have the option to get her checkups done at home, saving my cat from a mental breakdown. Very informative staff, kind front office as well. No complaints, will return. read more

I brought my dog in several times in 2010 as new customer. I am extremely impressed with the services of the staff and Dr. Dodge's too. He has been compassion and caring with his recommendations even though I advocate for my dog a more holistic approach. I do listen, sit back and then decide on the approach. However, I continue to use this clinic on a maintenance basis and each time is a great experience. I had another vet in Boulder, known to be holistic, which turned out to not be the case and the "nightmare from H..." I've been seeing Dr. Dodge for almost two decades now. He came in on his day off when my cat, who he saw for the cat's entire life, was put down because he knew how much pain the cat was in. I would follow Dr. Dodge to whatever place he goes to. However, in the past few years, the business seems to have started nickle-and-dime'ing patients. My mother, who has also been going to Dr. Dodge for close to 20 years, went with her cat who got so scared that the cat voided in the carrying case. Dr. Dodge was very sweet about it and cleaned it up. He offered new towels (which we rejected - we just took out all of the towels and put them in a bag which went home with us) and everything. When we got home, we noticed a $5 charge for "disposing of hazardous material". This charge is brand new to the business and was not disclosed to us before hand. We now bring a plastic bag with us because the vet is pricey enough. When I brought in my cat, I asked Dr. Dodge to check the excess dead skin on her paws. As he was examining her paws, dead skin the size of a grain of rice fell off. He took it before I could toss it in the trash, and low and behold, I was charged $5 for them to dispose of hazardous material. The next time it happened I just put the dead skin in my jeans pocket. I'll still be going there, but I'm going to be paying a lot of attention to my bill before I pay. I didn't used to need to do that before - they were always fair with their charges - but I simply don't trust their business practices anymore. tl;dr: Good vet. Sneaky charges. read more

The thing that stood out to me about this vet is how much they care about and want to connect with your pet. On the first visit Dr Dodge actually sat on the floor with our dog to pet him and get to know him! There wasn't even a table setup until the exam started, and then he pulled it down. When we returned to have our pet neutered the doctor called me two or three times that day to talk about the process and let me know how our dog was doing. I can't say enough about how great EVERY single person at this office is! Our sweet Hank woke up very sick & they squeezed him in that morning. He ended up having surgery & Dr. Space was a great surgeon. She checked on him throughout the night and even came in the next day to help us figure stuff out when it was her day off! We brought our cat to see Dr Hanley after moving from California for a dry skin condition. We were so impressed with this place! The staff at the front desk and the vet tech assisting us were so friendly. The place was really clean. Dr Hanley was so patient listening to all our neurotic concerns about our fur baby with empathy. She thoroughly examined her and was so gentle with her- we never saw her so at ease in a vet office before. They let her sniff around and come to them instead of ripping her out of her carrier. She spent a long time explaining to us many things about diet and educating her about her condition. Dr Dodge is the best, he was recommened to us, when we had to put our cat down quickly, and we were not his patients, but a client of theirs called him, told him the story and he stayed after work to help us. Since then he was our VET of CHOICE We had an Australia Cattle Dog "Blue" he was 17 and Dr Dodge came to our home, sat in the backyard with us and helped "blue" pass on. Dr. Dodge really cares about you and your animal. When Blue was having health problems, he tried many things and wouldn't give up and provided us with financial help. He is just MAGNIFICENT. So disappointed! Brought my 11 year old dog for help and was turned away because I refused to vaccinate her. The vet lied to me, saying Federal law required them to vaccinate, she's had immunity issues as all senior dogs do. The truth is it's not a Federal law, but a state law and any vet and provide an exemption at the owner's request if they feel the dog isn't healthy enough, especially dealing with other health issues as my dog is. BTW, senior dog, that maybe spends a little time in her fenced backyard, zero chance of ever being exposed to rabies or anything else. Now I have to find another yet, my dog is still suffering because they refused her! read more

I used to love Jasper Animal Hospital & gladly would have recommended them to anyone who asked. But enough it enough.. as much as I think that Dr. Dodge is a great vet, I just can't stomach this practice anymore. What makes me say this.. let me count the experiences. 1) I had my dog neutered there. It cost a lot, since he was a large dog at the time. No big deal. They acted really friendly as though it was OK that I carried a balance & paid it off over time (with fees being charged, of course). I also worked at a business in the same parking lot as them, so it's not like they didn't know me, where I worked, where I lived, etc. I went in & paid on it each month. Apparently this was not good enough as one day they accosted *my boss* about *my* bill. That's right, they confronted someone who had nothing to do with me and my private billing matters, about my unpaid bill, rather than talking to ME about it. Blatantly RUDE. And Dr. Dodge himself came over and very nastily said to me, in front of customers at my place of business, "I come in here and pay MY bills on time." It was disgusting, and nasty- nasty enough that years later I still remember it. 2) I brought my rabbit in when he had an eye infection & while the vet I dealt with that time (Dr. Space) was very nice & friendly, I really did not feel confident that she knew what she was talking about. And given that we were discussing removing my rabbit's eye, this was a big deal. 3) The ladies who work at the front desk really do not make me feel welcomed there. I have gone in there before & had to stand in front of the desk for several minutes before I was even acknowledged. It is a really incredible different from other vets I have gone to around here where I was greeted much more warmly and felt like the people there actually cared about me and my pets. 4) Most recently I called to ask about having a pet cremated. It was a really sensitive time for me, obviously, and the last thing I wanted to do was enter into some debate with someone who obviously didn't know what the hell she was talking about, about what type of pet it was. Frankly, if you work at a vet's office- you should not have to debate with me about what a SUGAR GLIDER is. You should KNOW THIS already. I have even taken a sugar glider there to be cremated before. When I finally did go in there I had 2 pets to cremate- not the happiest time for me. Instead of being able to quietly drop them off as I had hoped, I once again had to stand there & talk to the ladies there about what the hell a sugar glider was, and how much it would cost, and how they "must have given me a discount last time." Seriously? I don't give a shit. Please take my TWO DEAD PETS, cremate them, & call me when the ashes are back. Seriously, get a clue. Now it has been over 2 weeks and I still have not gotten a call that my pets' ashes are back, despite being told that it would have happened in less time. I did, however, get a bill from Jasper Animal Hospital with an extra added fee since my bill "carried over to the next month." They are billing me extra, even though they have STILL not returned my pets' ashes. Delightful! I had another pet cremated (happy month here) at a different vet only a week ago & I already have her ashes back, with a nice little paw print souvenir. Needless to say that other vet will be getting my business from now on. Dr. Dodge is a very nice man for the most part, but I just can't stand going to this vet anymore. read more
