Our dog's wound on her paw

Do NOT take your pet here unless you have hours to waste and like rude unprofessional service. I wouldn't even give it 1 star if that was an option. Understaffed and made me wait 2 hours to see just a tech to do vitals. I didn't feel like they treated our issue as an emergency either. I overheard other patients upsets over the service and their wish to speak to the doctor. Dr. Unger, when we finally saw her she was rude and cold and did not apologize for the long wait or have empathy for my very stressed out dog with a giant oozing red bump on her leg. She acted liked she had better things to do and was very short with us. Her demeanor was the worst I've seen and I've been to the ER vet many times over the years (when it was South Boulder Rd Specialists under diff mgmt - who was MUCH better). When my husband asked Unger how long it would be for her to just provide the quote for further testing (after waiting 2 hrs in the waiting room plus 30 min in the exam room with a very stressed out pup) her answer was "I don't know, 15-20 min." Every time we were told " it'll be just a few min" it would always be at least 20-30 min). My husband asked her if it was possible to get the quote to us sooner and her answer was "we'll do our best" and with that she left the room! No apologies or empathy, follow up, just nothing. Right after that we left to pay for the visit and get the bleep out of there ASAP to never return. I will add that while we were waiting I called the ER vet in Boulder off 29th street (Emergency Vet Group I think) and I explained to them our situation with the BluePearl facility and the wound on our dog and asked how long the wait time would be and they told us there is hardly ever a wait and our dog, Shelby would be seen right away. I appreciated the empathy in her voice and the sense of urgency I did not see AT ALL with Dr Unger or the staff at Blue Pearl. I will in fact be telling everyone NOT to go there ever, and post this review everywhere I can. Absolutely terrible. And we left with our dog still in pain with no tests or bandage, antibiotics, pain pills or anything. We saw our normal vet the next day who got us in right away and was very concerned and told us she had a bad infection. They put antibiotics and gave us an RX and wrapped her paw. Told us vital info and acted like they really cared about our dog. It didn't take long, and that's what we were expecting from BluePearl but got nothing close to that kind of service.

I…read morealso happen to be a dog trainer, so, I'm especially picky about the care my fur kids receive. Dr Kugler is the best of the best. Her approach to medical situations is to take a slow, effective approach to best diagnose your pet---meaning, she doesn't recommend 1,000's of tests and meds right off the bat. She tries the easiest solution and works her way up. For serious situations (I have an epileptic dog and another prone to severe anxiety) you are whisked in. Even when I had to take one of my boys to a local ER, she called in at no charge to double check that all the tests they were prescribing were necessary---cause most of them weren't. And when our cat became suddenly Ill earlier this year, the ER had recommended that we do 1,000 other tests and life saving support. I called Dr K Monday morning and she told me to bring Buddy in immediately. She looked at him and told me that he wouldn't last much longer. He was yellow and in full liver failure. No matter how much money we threw at him, he wouldn't live. She stayed with me while I went through the worst moment of my life. I recommend Dr K and her staff to all my clients. She is fair, kind, and invested in the health of her patients. If you are like me and always have a million questions, she answers them all and takes my concerns about over vaccination to heart. Oh, and her staff? The best of the best. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Never.

We saw Dr. Wydallis, showing her video of Nico's reverse sneezing attacks and telling her about all the places we've recently traveled. We were prescribed a ten day supply of Doxycycline. After the ten days of that antibiotic were complete, Nico had not improved and also developed really bad nasal discharge. After she started having blood in her nasal discharge, we went back to Foxtail for a follow up. This time Nico was seen by Dr. Grubb. We went over the whole history including explaining all the travel we had done. We were given another ten day supply of another antibiotic, Clavamox. After the second ten day supply of antibiotics failed to improve Nico's health, we contacted Foxtail again. We spoke to Dr. Grubb and, based on her suggestion, we scheduled Nico for a nasal flush along with having a specialist perform a rhinoscopy. The rhinoscopy showed no foreign bodies in her nasal passages. The biopsies also were negative. For two days, she seemed to be doing better. After the two days, the significant nasal discharge was back. Nico had also developed a deep, wet cough. We, again, contacted Foxtail. We, again, saw Dr. Wydallis. She listened to Nico's lungs and took some x-rays. Dr. Wydallis stated she didn't see anything concerning in the x-rays but they would have to be sent out to be looked at. Since this was a Saturday, we were told they would likely have results on Monday. We were also given another ten day supply of Doxycycline. This is now the fourth ten day supply of antibiotics that have proven to be ineffective. The next day, we ended up rushing Nico to UrgentVet with a fever of 104. They examined Nico and took more x-rays. Nico had developed pneumonia following the rhinoscopy, which UrgentVet explained was a common complication from the procedure. We were NEVER made aware of the risk of pneumonia from Foxtail. UrgentVet expressed surprise that Foxtail's X-ray wasn't examined by a radiologist and said that given how ill she was now, more ought to have been done the day before. They gave us a different medication for the pneumonia which helped bring Nico's fever down. We made a follow up appointment at CCAPM and Dr. Landry. Again, we explained the whole story from the beginning including our travel history. He asked, with the travel history, had Foxtail completed a Fungal test. -No. He also asked if they had done a Respiratory Disease Panel and Anaerobic & Aerobic Culture. -No. He told us that, particularly if the antibiotics weren't working, all of those actions should to have been done before the rhinoscopy. Dr. Landy mentioned the possibility of atypical canine infectious respiratory disease. When we contacted Foxtail, afterwards, Dr Wydallis told us she hadn't heard of it. WHAT?!?! It was all over the news for a while. How could she not have heard of it?! After taking a couple cultures from her nasal discharge, Dr. Landry was able to pinpoint the issue and a course of action. Nico was prescribed two different antibiotics that actually helped our girl. To sum it all up, Foxtail put our girl through unnecessary, invasive and expensive procedures. She developed pneumonia due to these procedures and had to be taken to UrgentVet. She suffered through months of reverse sneezing attacks, excessive nasal discharge and breathing issues. All of this could have been avoided if we would have taken her to a more knowledgeable vet. I can't even explain how mad I am about putting our precious girl through the rhinoscopy when all it really took was gathering a couple cultures. Instead of the noninvasive method, Foxtail chose the most invasive and expensive route. All in all, it was a nearly $4000 lesson we learned. Foxtail might be okay for your basic veterinary needs. But I wouldn't risk it.
