This local coffee shop uses free trade coffee from "Larry's Beans" and rivals Starbucks for great tasting coffee and teas.

Owner is never nice or polite. Biggest concern is that no one that is a customer not use their bathroom but has no concern at all that the bathroom lock is broken. I went in 2 weeks apart & told her that the bathroom lock is broken & both times got a cold stare with "I'm aware" & that's it. The light was burning out as well. Someone walked in on me as I was using the bathroom because no note was put on the door that the lock is broken. Prices are increased but you can't fix the lock? I've heard they are going out of business...I see why. read more

Good breakfast sandwich. Friendly barista. Larry's Coffee are good beans. But the espresso drinks are not good, at least not today. Tried two iced ones with whole milk, and both times it tastes bitter, thin. I did what I hate to do: asked them to remake it, which they kindly did. On the remake I asked for less milk so I could fill up with half and half, and still pretty thin/bitter in taste. I've had much better luck with Larry's Coffee espresso at home on a fairly entry-level espresso machine (Gaggia New Baby, if you're curious!). The one power outlet thing stinks. I understand not wanting laptop campers like myself, though. read more

I came here for years and always managed to find something I liked to drink. I agree with some of the other reviews here that say the service is on the decline. There have been some younger staff members that are excellent and there are some that are terrible. While I love the location and ambiance, the lack of consistency in service and quality makes it difficult to recommend. I honestly hope it improves. read more

Bought a FOUR dollar lemonade and the owner of the shop filled the whole cup with ice and gave me a tiny bit of lemonade. I probably had like 6 sips of it in a big cup. Absolute rip off. read more

I was so disappointed (and surprised!) by the rudeness of the owner. The coffee and other drinks are fine, other staff are nice -- but wow, she does she have a personality issue! (A friend told me she's stressed because she has a hard time keeping staff. If she treats them the way she treats customers, I can see why they don't want to be there!) I wanted to love this place, because Larry, of Larry's Beans, is SO great. (Apparently his family members own Java Jive.) I appreciate the fair trade, and had been patronizing Larry's various coffee outlets since he started here in the early 90s. But it's a principle of mine not to give hard-earned dollars to nasty people. So I drive on up the hill to Whole Foods, where I can get the exact same cup of Larry's Beans fair trade coffee or espresso at a much lower price, offered up by sweet-spirited people who leave you glad to buy that tasty cup of java. (And if you bring your own cup, coffee is only 75 cents!) I miss Blue Rain Cafe and Java Blu, the only other coffee spots on this end of town, both of which recently closed! I'd give the owners at both of those places 5 stars for providing a great cup of coffee, a pleasant space to hang out with friends, or a quick cup when that's what you came for. The two stars for Java Jive are because the coffee's good, but I'd rather live with caffiene withdrawal than hang out there. read more

I like Larry's beans and the espresso is great. I really is annoying that they have a $5 minimum credit card tule, even though I know about the credit card fees that small shops pay. I wish they had a water dispenser readily available as well, and possibly a greater variety of muffins, such as chocolate chip. It's also very cold in here today. read more

Java Jive has the best spiced chai latte I have found! I also love their pastries and their local atmosphere. They do a great job of supporting the surrounding community with events and their friendly, neighborhood vibe. It's always a treat to go there. read more

Alright, I went back again for some more punishment and to see if anything had changed. Bad, bad, bad. How this place gets more than 1 star is a mystery. Maybe they are writing their own reviews. This review isn't based on one visit but many. I like to support local but there's nothing good about this local business. The owner is on site and unfriendly. She doesn't have any rapport with customers and hides behind the counter then talks about the customers to other customers. The coffee is mediocre and they don't accept credit cards for purchases under $5. That's to encourage you to buy another item and raise the average transaction. Bad idea and it's transparent. I can't think of one good reason to support this place. read more

Sweet place, convenient. Wish they had a bigger inside area to lounge- but otherwise, nice. Outdoor seating is pleasant.

Coffee is subpar, owner claims coffee knowledge based on being from Seattle but fails to deliver any consistently.

Sure do love coming to Java Jive. I come here 2-3 times a week whenever I wake up too late to make my own coffee. The staff is fantastic, they know mine and my girlfriend's order by heart and basically have it ready to go once they see us walk in. Their coffee is tasty, the right temperature and they always have fresh do-it-yourself ingredients on the side. Great atmosphere, great service and a great product. Can't ask for much more! read more

I have tried so hard to like this place , as its convenient when my daugther has her dance lessons down the street. However the service is consistently bad...there is always just one person working, its usually a hich school boy who really knows nothing about coffee. The last time I was there he served me a cold coffee drink in a cardboard coffe cup and within 10 minutes it had bled through. Another time I ordered the "drink special" on the outside board, and the guy working there had no idea what it was and he had to call someone on the phone, who didnt answer, so he said he couldnt make it and said the sign outside must be old. My advice is keep drving to the starbucks er down the street. read more

Love the coffee - probably some of the best in the area. The baristas are sometimes friendly, sometimes not,. The space is sometimes comfortable, sometimes not - they change it around often. If you want a friendly, comfy place to hang out, this probably isn't the ideal place. If you just want a good cup of coffee and you don't mind a business-like attitude, Java Jive is perfect. read more

I love their Frapps and today after going there for 6 years, I find out by an extremely rude woman who was behind the counter w/the kid who was making the coffee that their Frapps are not sugar free. She seems upset at the fact that I kept insisting that I've always had one. I guess the kids behind the counter have been selling their Frapps as sugar free when they are only low sugar. I AM DIABETIC, and for 6 years they sold me "SUGAR FREE" Frapps. Well there is not such thing and she has the nerve to ask, what happens to your sugar? Do you check it? NO, I keep it pretty much under control and if I am being sold something as sugar free, why on earth who I check it? SHAME ON THE KIDS BEHIND THE COUNTER AND SHAME ON THE JAVE JIVE. It's a shame as I love their coffee but apparently they have no clue of what they sell. read more

This is one of the only local small business coffee shoppes close to my office. It used to be my favorite "treats" to pop in for a lunch treat. The last few months it has gone completely downhill. The owner used to be pleasant and welcoming, and now there seems to be an atmosphere of irritation and arrogance. I have gone in here several times by myself along with coworkers and it's been the same. The staff seems to zone out when faced with a question, and the service is terribly slow. I understand the whole no credit card less than five dollars thing, but it just irritates me. I can't go in here without cash (which I almost never have on me), and/or being forced into buying something I dont want. That in itself sealed the deal for me. Bottom line. Yes they use local fair trade beans, yes it's it a local small business, yes it's got nice out door seating.....but I would keep looking. The inside is cramped, dark, and if more than one person is inside very loud, the decor is tragic, and the owner seems to care less about having your business. read more

I was up all night with a two month old, out of coffee at the house, and thus got two kids dressed and in the car at 7am on no sleep and no coffee. Dropped 2 year old off at daycare and stopped at Java Jive for the first time. All I wanted was coffee...badly. I went in half asleep, holding my 2month old and after ordering a medium coffee I realized I only had one dollar bill in my wallet. I was told $5 minimum for credit card purchases. Even after explaining to the kid behind the counter that while I have no doubt that is their policy, he could in fact accept my credit card he still refused. I actually said in disbelief, "So I'm just going to walk out without coffee", to which he replied "Yeah...sorry". It was a surreal experience. So I walked out (still carrying the sleeping 2 month old), went to Whole Foods and got coffee...with a CARD! Good job Java Jive on saving that nickel on processing fees! I go to a LOT of local coffee shops and the ALL accept cards. Coffee is a high volume / low $ transaction business. If in fact Java Jive pays exorbitant transaction fees, that is on them. It is absurd to choose a credit card processing plan that does not cater to your business. Needless to say, I won't be back and I will spread the word. read more
