We've been trying to get to Javier's for years. Once we tried, it was closed for a private event, and another time they closed because the weather was too nice so they wanted to take the day off and enjoy it with their family. Weird, but OK Finally got in today for Brunch.... Beautiful Sunday at 10:30AM and it was packed! Indoor and outdoor! We sat inside and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the omelette with bacon, tomato, cheese and scallions and I ordered the Texas burger. Both delicious! My husband did mention the steep price for the medicore sized omelette but he said it was still delicious. My burger was worth every penny so no complaints there but the prices are a bit high for what you get. They only accept debit cards and cash which is noted on their menu. Went in last week for a table , waited and told the hostess that the rest of my party was coming through the back door and pulling into the rear lot . She tells me that they better be there or you can't sit , I replied they are packing and walking in , three minutes later the remaining party arrives and this hostess returns to my table and tells me I'm a liar and that I will never be seated again unless the entire party is verified through her ! This seems to be a common issue there with this place , the way I was spoken to and treated was absolutely uncalled for and I will never return to that dump again ! It's funny how little pieces of knowledge help to make connections about restaurants. What I'm referring to is the info that Javier's Café was started up by ex-members of the famous Maureen's Kitchen of Smithtown. What's also pretty funny is that you could probably close your eyes, eat some of Javier's tasty grub, and you might just think you're at Maureen's...or dare I say that you'll keep your eyes open because Javier's is better! Let's not start any quarrels just yet, but back a few months ago when my wife and I visited Javier's for a morning meal, we went in knowing that there was some positive (under-the-radar) hype about this quaint Smithtown spot. The interior of Javier's feels a little cozy and runs itself in line with what you might see at a small restaurant with diner flares and wood finishes (definitely a different vibe than Maureen's and its country cow feel). I'll say it was a bit chilly that late March day and it wasn't the warmest inside Javier's, but even with that fact in tact I still went for an iced latte with vanilla to begin my morning. Definitely a tasty start to things (with the wife doing the same). Shifting to food, it's really the menu that gives off those Maureen's connections. The chalkboard writing specials and the options come very close to the things you'd find at the breakfast restaurant with a cow in front of it. But it's one thing to have similar food items and it's another thing altogether to be able to execute it. Spoiler alert: Javier's executes it. Let's just backtrack for one sec and say that beyond the specials, Javier's had a nice menu of breakfast choices with plenty of French toast, egg, pancake, and omelette options. You don't have to get a special, but I mean, you should. Well, for my wife and I, my breakfast choice was a special while hers was a little more simplistic (but delicious). I went with the croissant French toast which was stuffed with chocolate chip cannoli cream, strawberries, and bananas. Not only is this a very similar Maureen's menu item, it also tasted just as delicious. Creamy, fruity, a little crispy on the croissant edges, and just a fantastic food item. For my wife, she went simple with scrambled eggs (with some cheese on top), home fries, sausage, and toast. All of her meal was equally delicious and the flavors, despite it being a more basic plate of food, also reminded me of Maureen's. Now here's the difference between these two very similar spots (well, besides the ambiance). Javier's was relaxing and I'll also say the staff might have been a tad more on top of their game. Our waitress was friendly and a few other workers checked in and were present as the meal went on. The thing with Maureen's is its following just often makes the place a madhouse which is just a different kind of vibe than Javier's. Overall, is Maureen's better? Does Javier's Café take the edge? If you're going off of my words in this review you might just realize which way I now am leaning (heh heh), but be the judge for yourself and honestly if you haven't heard of Javier's and you don't want that cow-themed hustle and bustle, then this place will give you just about everything you'd hope for. read more

We only had a 15 minute wait but we were sat at an awkward small table by the coffee bar area. *The lady that took our order was obviously distracted and kept looking at the door to the extent that we had to repeat ourselves for our order. ***That being said they STILL got our order wrong. Not only that, but the way it was handled!!!*** We ordered a build your own omelette and asked for mozzarella cheese- what came to the table was one with American yellow cheese on top and inside the omelette. Now fine, I get mistakes happen... BUT when they brought it back to the kitchen to fix it, tell me why they scraped off the American yellow cheese and just added slices of mozzarella and toasted it again. We not only saw this from where we were sitting because the kitchen was visible but we also received it this way with remains of American chews visible. On top of this, it was the OWNER Javier himself that did this! To me, for the owner of all people to have such low standards to do that instead of making a new omelette for us is insane!!! Says a lot about the restaurant. Otherwise we also ordered the pistachio blueberry pancakes- they were tasty, but dry, not edible without syrup. 2/5 stars - DISAPPOINTING experience unfortunately. read more

We showed up at 2:45pm on Father's Day for brunch no realizing that they close at 3, but they still cheerfully seated us despite it being so close to closing and it being crowded. We had a very nice fellow (maybe called Kevin? Can't remember now, but he was quite tall and very polite) who was our server. The banana pancakes and corn beef hash I had was delicious and my friend had eggs, Canadian bacon and toast. Everything was hot, delicious and well prepared. The staff was lovely, the food was quality and well prepared and eating area clean and welcoming. This is a place we will be returning to again without a doubt! Chef Javier and his manager Chris appear to believe that opening a small café somehow makes them culinary royalty. Newsflash: it doesn't. Let's begin with the food--if you can even call it that. It was uninspired, poorly executed, and utterly forgettable. I've had better meals at airport terminals. For a place that carries the chef's name, you'd think there would be some pride in what leaves the kitchen. Instead, it's mediocrity served with a side of ego. Now, onto the management--or lack thereof. Chris, the so-called manager, was about as welcoming as a locked door. His attitude screamed entitlement, not professionalism. The hostesses? Aloof, dismissive, and seemingly trained in the fine art of making guests feel like intrusions rather than customers. It's as if the whole front-of-house team believes they're above hospitality. Here's some unsolicited advice for Javier and Chris: you're not Michelin-starred chefs, you're not reinventing the wheel, and from what I saw, you're barely holding it together. If this café is the height of your ambition, then so be it--but don't mistake it for excellence. Best part about it was definitely the sausage (great quality and flavor). The toast and potatoes also went nicely with the omelette. Service was also decent. The only minor problems with this place is the price and wait times. Each omelette is nearly $20 which I find a bit expensive for just some eggs. Also, the restaurant was kind of small and we had to wait half an hour for a table of five people (on a Monday afternoon). So, make sure you have some time if you want to come to this restaurant. Overrated breakfast spot at smithtown. Everyone keeps talking about thechef from Maureen's kitchen, but theres really nothing special. The chef forgot to bring the customer service aspect of a business. The bacon was terrible and they didn't even get my coffee order correct. Do not drink all your water because no one comes around with a refill. You will be paying high prices for mediocre food. A party of five or more will never get a seat. Certificate of occupancy is only 35 but they have more than 35 chairs. Definitely have to wait for average food. read more

We are in the neighborhood and decided to give this place a try. It is very clean and the wait staff are friendly. I got the sliced sausage with egg on a hard roll for about $7 and it met my expectation. Just a breakfast roll so nothing to really rave about. My son got the Oreo with white chocolate chip pancake which he really enjoyed. It came with hot syrup so that was a nice touch. My wife got the 2 eggs with corn beef hash. She didn't enjoy her dish all that much as 1) the corn beef hash was really salty and 2) there were parts that just looked burnt. Let me start with, I'm not a fan of regular pancakes nor chicken salad but I was there 2 weeks ago with a friend & for whatever reason, we ordered a chicken salad with cranberries sandwich on multigrain toast & their special pistachio pancakes. I cannot stress enough how delish both were since we shared both dishes. So I decided to go today & had the pistachio pancakes again which were so delicious again. Just be aware that they do get extremely busy on Sundays so be prepared to possibly have to wait. I did notice that it did lighten up around 1:40pm but they are only open until 3pm. Definitely worth the wait. They do have tables outside in the back of the restaurant too. There is ample parking in the back of the restaurant. Give it a try & enjoy! Your definitely not getting diner portions or prices either so be prepared for that. The menu however does look interesting and I'd be willing to come back to try what else they have to order.
