i would give soul brew five stars for the service alone. honestly, i had an incredible experience with the waitstaff and everyone who worked there. right off the bat, i walked in and there were a couple of free tables available. i was told i could sit anywhere, so my group sat in a fun set of two funky, tall chairs, which already made for a unique experience. there were a lot of great breakfast options on the menu, including burritos, eggs, and sweet dishes. they were accommodating with modifications to my wrap. i also tried the chocolate chip pancakes with bananas. honestly, for me, the star of the show was the pancakes. the pancakes were warm, buttery, had a wonderful texture, & paired perfectly with the maple syrup on the table. i felt very accommodated throughout the experience and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. i would say the pricing was appropriate for the quality and portion of the food. they also have a lunch selection that i'd be eager to try next time. there are bathrooms inside as well. read more

While the food is great, service is horrible. Wait times for service even when not crowded is long. Servers don't pay attention, are always on their phone, and look at you like you have two heads if you need help. We also noticed people waiting for to-go orders for over half an hour for simple orders. I wish I could give this place a better review because the menu items are wonderful and the ambiance is chill. But the staff need proper training. They need to pay attention and really take care with their customers. I don't believe "the customer is always right," but take more care with your customers. read more

Delicious food as always, I love trying the specials! Ambiance is as lovely as ever too. A cute, trendy, hippie cafe. However, coming on a Sunday for brunch was a mistake. The spot is in high demand and gets packed quickly. We expected a wait, and didn't mind the half hour before we were seated. However, unfortunately, the service was wonderfully friendly and kind, but extremely slow. It seems both the kitchen and the service team are woefully understaffed for a busy weekend. The pickup line crowded all the tables, with three people up against my seat the whole meal. Also, likely because of the backup, one of our meals was made wrong (wrong filling in the omelette). The staff were super nice and got it replaced very quickly, even offering a discount for that meal, but it was a bit upsetting when we waited around 45 minutes for the food. For what it's worth I don't goto Soul Brew often but when I do it's because I opt to cheat on my beloved breakfast place and get something like a piece of Avocado Toast jazzed up and a Chai Latte or an omelette with asparagus. Service last time I was in was a little more on the lackluster side but I can't complain really because they are always bustling and usually there's a bit of a wait. Staff has been pretty unfriendly in the past couple years, which is why I stopped coming as often. I can't believe it took me so long to try Soul Brew! This place is incredible. There's a nice laid back vibe to the place and they have cool art work throughout the restaurant! They have a beautiful bar you can sit at or you can opt for a table. The place was packed on a weekday when I went for lunch with a friend but we were lucky to get a table upon walking in. The service was great and our waitress couldn't have been nicer. The food was the best part of the experience overall because it was so amazing. I got the feeling tot burrito (sorry I forgot to take a picture) and opted to get the chipotle sauce on the side. The burrito was big and flavorful and I LOVED the chipotle sauce. That said, once you actually sit down, everything they bring out is solid. The food is fresh, cooked well, and the serving portions are great. I also tried the purple haze drink and it was awesome. We specifically went for the monthly specials but unfortunately they were out of one of the ingredients. Mind you they were only open for a short while at that point. Disappointed but we carried on and got one of special drinks, rainbow road pancakes and avocado toast. Their lattes are so good, and can always count on a great cup of coffee. The food also is some of the best breakfast food around. Shout out to 'Bird is the word' breakfast sandwich. Great pancakes and specials too! The big negative is service. Service was never this place's strong suit, but I feel like in the last 6 months it's gotten really bad. Last month I was given a buzzer to wait, after being told it would be 20-30 minutes. I waited in the car and 45 minutes later came in. We also tried the Almond Butter Toast, and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything to cry about. Just kinda mid. We also got four mimosas at 8 a.m. (because why not?), but they were also mid. Okay, this place is one of my absolute favorites in the area. It reminds me of the coffee shops that I went to during college - bustling with personality, liveliness, and joy. I had only been able to get take out because I had gone there when it was busy. I've learned to go later in the afternoon to have our pick of tables because they serve breakfast all day. We've been here many times - keep abreast of their specials on Instagram is helpful! - but recently we had a sit down meal and it was lovely. Welp, Instagram has brought me here, of course right. Scrolled passed rainbow cookie pancakes about a week before my birthday and then...... BOOM birthday pancakes came to be. Came to the St. James location on Saturday at around 2pm (wasnt that busy) and was pleasantly surprised to find out allday breakfast until 4pm. This place is basically a coffee house with some bomb ass well done food. Besides the very creative menu of dishes they also have muffins, scones and cookies and such things like a coffee spot would. Designed with the same creativity youd find on the menu, this place is charming and very welcoming. Employees were friendly and very polite and helpful. One of my photos is actually the nice mural in the bathroom ( which smelled wonderful i must add, no sarcasm there). Now on to the important stuff, what i ate..... Rainbow Road (rainbow cookie pancakes) Layers and layers of rainbow cookies through out these cakey stack of delicious pancakes with a jelly glaze over them. The pancakes were hot, moist and a great portion size. With that i must add the rainbow cookie itself was absolutely banging!!!!!! Because i do not just eat one menu item of course i had to get something savory, a burrito with 3 eggs, cheese, tater tots and a chipotle type sauce. A generous portion and not one bit light on the tots it was a beautiful ending to a very sweet afternoon. I also got a black iced coffee and even that was brewed nicely to my taste. I found a plastic sauce lid inside of my matcha after drinking the majority of it. The staff and hostess were especially rude and dismissive about it. This is disgusting. The price is a little on the steeper side, however it is mostly justified when you look at how much food you are getting Ambience 5/5: Very different from any other breakfast spot on Long Island. I like that it has a cool retro feel with their abundance of tie dye menus and wall decor.
