One of our favorite stops! I'm so grateful that Aloha Mix Food Truck cafe exists in an otherwise quieter part of the island. We had planned to go to the Punalu'u Bake Shop and this food truck and were pleasantly surprised that they're just across the street from one another! After picking up some malasadas and admiring the garden plants came to this food truck, parked cheerily between a little store and home, with both a shaded eating area and a cornhole games set up in front of it. Unfortunately a few things were out of stock when we visited (no strawberries and burgers I believe) but we were still able to pick up a shrimp sampler plate and acai berry bowl to share (came out to ~$30). While we waited for our order, we enjoyed a spirited game of cornhole! About 15 minutes later our buzzer rang and our order was ready. We took it to the beach nearby to eat. The acai bowl melted quickly and tasted healthier and less sweet than most, if that's your thing! The granola was good. The shrimp plate was yummy with lots of sauce for the rice below (the best bites). We felt that the curry shrimp was the tastiest, the cajun shrimp a bit spicy, and the lemon pepper good but standard. A little fresh salad on the side was a good accompaniment. read more

The Shrimp Sampler platter was excellent. My grandmother and I shared a platter and we enjoyed how highly seasoned the shrimp was. The garlic and lava shrimp was my favorite and I loved how the sauce soaked into the rice. The simple salad helped balance the meal. This is a spot I can come back to the next time I come to Kona. read more

OMG I wish this place was open later and closer to where we were staying! I came across this place since it was otw to the national volcano park. We also had just come from Punalu'u beach. This place is nice and cute and was probably one of our favorite shrimp meals on the island. We had the 3 flavor combo, they were all delicious. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to try their acai bowls but the smoothie was pretty good. There's outside seating and also the bakery across the street if you're craving some baked goods. We stopped here after visiting the black sand beach. This food truck is right across from the bakery (also delicious). The meat was already sampled in these photos and it was so good I was compelled to do a review. The steak was tender and had great flavor, cut in thin pieces. The shrimp varieties were excellent- a scampi like flavor, lemon flavor and the volcano flavor was a good balance/blend of spicy and herbs. Each meal is served with a salad and jasmine rice. The açaí bowl was the perfect consistency, it was flavorful and had great fresh fruit, granola and local honey on top. The tables and surrounding area were clean and peaceful while you ate your delicious lunch. The service was great and the food came out quick. I would definitely recommend stopping in when passing by their food truck. The hours are limited (11A.M. Until 3 P.M. I believe) so get a snack on your way in or out to the beach! read more

Everything we ordered was delicious. I very much enjoyed their sauce & spices used on the shrimp! I wish their surf & turf option was available but they had already run out of it when we arrived close to their closing hours. The prices are high but at least the food quality is there even though the quantity or amount they give you is little. Pick your battles, either over pay for little but delicious food or miss out on over priced little food thats delicious. Its just good I got to try them, i probably wouldn't get this stuff often bc of how pricey it is, but definitely would like to try their popular items at least once. read more

Here's what you need to know: Absolutely fantastic food and terrific outdoor setup and charming place. Food takes a while to arrive but so worth the wait. Best açaí and Pitayabowl I've ever had. Ever! Amazing and distinct flavors of shrimp. Very Reasonable pricing for Hawaii. I would not say warm, but Friendly enough service. I definitely recommend it. The outdoor lawn seating is so fun and has umbrellas to protect you from the direct sun. There is even a cornhole set up to play while you wait - and the food does take a while. We drove by and saw the sign of "steak, shrimp, acai bowl" so we wanted to try. This place was very overpriced for the portions they give. Almost $30 for 4 pieces of small shrimp and thin-cut steak on a bed of crunchy rice and side salad. They gave us 1 napkin each. The acai bowl also tasted a bit watery. The table we sat on had fire ants biting us. Half of the menu was unavailable when we visited. They only open between 11am-3pm. My friend's card declined twice, but we went across to Punaluʻu Bakery and it worked on the first transaction. Do with this information what you will. Someone needed to be honest. read more

We went on a hike along the coast and then headed to this revered aloha mix food truck. All reviews mentioned that you cannot go wrong with any option on the menu, with highlights on the garlic shrimp, surf and turf, and finally the acai bowls. Immediately after opening the shrimp plate, you can smell the great garlic and butter fragrance while the side salad provided a nice contrast to the dish. Our friends opted for the full surf and turf (options: 8oz. for full, 4oz. for half). You could see a bright smile surface from cheek to cheek the moment my friend tried a piece of steak which is made with their in-house dry rub and USDA tipped steak. We almost didn't stop here - what a mistake that would have been! This was the best thing we ate in Hawaii and hands down the best shrimp I've ever had. We were on our way back from the black sand beach and were looking for a place to grab lunch. I had seen this food truck on the drive over and wasn't sure about it, but the Yelp reviews convinced me otherwise - boy were they right! We were given a friendly island greeting as we ordered, my boyfriend choosing the lava shrimp plate and I the lemon pepper shrimp plate. Each came with eight pieces of shrimp, jasmine rice, and salad. While we waiting on the picnic tables, we befriended a tiny gecko who posed for dozens of pictures. We ordered a pork chop and mixed plate of shrimp. The pork chop was tender and flavorful. For me, the star is the shrimp. The mixed plate came with 3 different flavors: lava, garlic, and lemon pepper. These flavors are delicious!!! The lava shrimp does have a kick to it and you feel it more as you keep eating. You can definitely taste the garlic in the garlic shrimp without these big chucks of garlic pieces. The lemon pepper reminded me of a slight curry flavor. I love all of them so if I were to go back, I'd get the same order again. Our dishes came with rice and salad. At first, I had no intention of eating the salad. But after tasting the house dressing, I definitely changed my mind. The dressing was tart and sweet and just so good! The rice was cooked perfectly too. It didn't get mushy from the sauces that came with the shrimp. There are a few tables to sit on and dine outdoor. You order at the food truck. I really like the ambiance of this place! There's a bathroom inside the adjacent building, if needed. I wish they had this papaya smoothie for me to try but it wasn't available today. Stopped by here after seeing a suggestion online and looked at the other places in the area. None of them really had as good reviews as this place, and I'm glad we chose them! We got the full steak and shrimp combo. Pros- we got their spicy shrimp seasoning (I forget what exactly it was called). It wasn't very spicy (I have a low spice tolerance) but just enough to get a kick. The steak was juicy, flavorful, and easy to chew as well. The salad dressing was great too! There is also rice in addition to the steak, shrimp, and salad, so it's a decent amount of food. Cons- Service wise it did take a while to make, but at least the food was hot so you know it was freshly made. The plate was $30 which is quite high but again you get a decent amount of food... however I do think one person could finish it so $30 is a lot for a food truck for one person's dish. I think the biggest letdown was we were also disappointed and surprised that the full plate only came with 4 shrimp because the full shrimp plate comes with 8 (I could be wrong but it looked like that in the pictures). Perhaps "full plate" meant only the steak? It would have been nice to be told that. That being said the other options for food didn't look that great, so despite the price and low # of shrimp, I still don't regret getting food from them. The quality itself was high! read more

I hate to rain on the 5-star parade, but while the food at Aloha was no doubt flavorful, there were certainly flaws. We requested the steak be cooked medium rare, but we received medium to medium-well, just a hint of pink. The beef was seasoned well, but what a waste of NY strip to overcook the steak. The lava shrimp was executed nicely and the spicy oil seeping onto the white rice made the somewhat-stale rice a little better.
