I have an Oster Classic 76 and cut my own hair, but still feel a bit iffy about doing my own beard. I'm working on the "yeard" and don't want to mess it up, and the first time I trimmed it myself I wasn't entirely thrilled with the results. I've been here twice, each time it was a different person working on me, and each time the person was great. They don't overdo it, and they give good advice as well for your own grooming in between visits. Nice friendly service, and great results. Pretty cool spot, too, plus nothing to complain about the pricing. I guarantee, if I didn't cut my own hair, I'd choose to get it done here as well. I have been going to JAX Chop Shop for my haircuts and trims for 2 to 3 years now, and this place definitely has some great customer service and solid barbers! They were in a smaller place next door initially, and due to the rising popularity of this barber shop, they moved to a larger place next door! I always get my haircut from Luis and he consistently does a great job. He always takes his time and prides himself on the details, so that alone keeps me coming back. The staff and other barbers are very nice, as they always ask me if I need a drink, coffee, or espresso while waiting. There are always good conversations going on while I am here! my experience was awful. i walked in thinking i was going to get a nice fresh cut. sadly, i was mistaken. i asked Justin to clean up the sides and 1/2 inch or 1 inch off the top. what i got was a bowl cut or nowadays called and Edgar cut. i didn't say something when i should have so i take fault on that. but if you can not clean up my sides and a take a little off the top, then, don't cut my hair. i am very, very displeased and would not recommend. i missed a day of school to get this fix. if you are in that area do not go. read more

First of all, ambience/style: they have a sophisticated, old school vibe and it's very well executed with great attention to detail -- the chairs, the decor and even the apron/cover they wear. Just look at their Instagram. Aside from water, they offer customers espresso and beer. Who else does that? Haircut: my husband got a buzz cut and my 3yo had a cut that was slightly shorter on top/in front (no idea what that's called). Kid's cut: My son hadn't had a haircut since October because he suddenly had become scared of haircuts. He squirms and at his last cut he even screamed at the sound of the buzzer. But then I decided to change salons and come to Jax. I thought maybe if it were all men around, he would feel more grown up. We got an appointment with Elmer and he went above and beyond my expectations. First, he let my son sit in my husband's lap. Second, he talked to Finn and was very warm and friendly. Then he offered Finn a lollipop to hold onto until he was done. My son still squirmed and tried to hide, but not only did Elmer work around all this, he didn't skimp on the cut. It was hands-down the most precise, handsome cut my son has had thanks to Elmer's dexterity and patience. My husband's buzz cut: I don't know what you can expect of a buzz cut at most places because my husband usually does it at home. But the approach at this place is excellent. My husband has dry, irritated skin. Elmer used lotion multiple times and a hot towel twice throughout the cut and my husband's skull has never looked better.
