Prior to going to Tony, I had never been happy with a haircut, but now I find myself still surprised at how much I love my hair each time I have an appointment. This is review is for Ella (Markevich) Kuminskiy. She has been my stylist for about 10 years across 3 salons. Not only does she is a great hair artist but also a wonderful kind, compassionate, caring person. I have shared good times and bad times with her across the years. She is very ethical and takes great pride in her work product. Ella provides me with partial highlights and a haircut. She varies the highlight with the season. The shot with the magenta vest is winter blonde and the other in the cream sweater is summer blonde. I do not really make decisions other than asking for her to keep the color natural and make sure to keep the hair length when making layers. I defer to her to manage the rest. She does explain her color and cutting decisions on why she is choosing a product or performing a particular step. She has educated me about expected changes to color and quality of my hair as I age from managing grays to hair thinning. Bonus is that she is fluent in Russian in case you are looking for a bilingual Russian - English speaking hair stylist! read more

I was not trying to offend him, I was willing to pay the full price but I just wanted to know why his price was the way it was. You buy organic milk for a higher price because it's organic. Man oh man!!!! I love my hair!!! I went to Tony to get my hair colored which he did a great job on. As we were chatting, we started talking about doing some fun fashion colors. Instead of Tony wanting to bleach my already super dark hair to get the look we were talking about, he suggested we do some fun colored extensions! I was a little hesitant as I have seen some scary extensions. I let Tony do his thing and now I have these amazing super smooth and soft extensions in this fun mauve shade that I can wear for up to 8 weeks without having to put my hair through the stress of processing! Watching him do the extensions so effortlessly, I can tell this is an area he specializes in. I appreciate him making this suggestion and talking me through my hesitation! They are super fun! I had the worst hair experience of my life last week at this salon. Tony, the owner of this salon, colored my hair and royally fucked it up from the start. First, he dyed my entire head this hideous blonde color after I specifically told him to keep my roots dark and dye my hair ice blonde at the ends. I was visibly upset and he laughed and said "I just wanted to see your reaction to this color, some people love it." ??? like wtf. I told him to fix my roots and dye them darker to match my dark brown eyebrows. He then dyed my roots RED and told me that I should just dye my eyebrows lighter to match the botched color job he did .... you can't make this stuff up. I was only in La Jolla for the weekend and we were doing family pictures the next day and I told him he had to fix my hair before then. He promised he would fix my hair even though he was obscenely rude to me because he "loved" the color. Tony made me pay $350 for the worst color job i've ever had and THEN after texting him to set up a time to fix my hair the next day, he refused to fix my hair out of "principle". I've got receipts. He also told me that i'm "ungrateful" because he did a shitty ass job and I wasn't happy about it. But i was not rude to him at all. I kept my wits about me because he promised he would fix it. Tony if you're reading this you should shut down your business and find a new hobby babe, hair really isn't for you. Nothing nice about him or this washed up, over rated, over priced, sad excuse for a salon. I've had better conversations with a dog and honestly, a dog probably could have done my hair better. Don't waste your time at this salon. Save yourself. I'm tagging the photo I showed him I wanted my hair to look like (which was my hair 5 months ago) and what I got in return. Amazing location, so close to everything (including the beach like right across the street). I went and got my hair done with Cate who I have seen for years and she was able to get my very curly and difficult hair to a beautiful blonde. Unprofessional..hair extensions completely ruined my hair and will take years to grow back. The worst part was the tape he used to put in the extensions didn't match. He used light tape against dark hair. When asked about this he told me I just needed to teeze my hair so they didn't show, not acceptable. I got extensions to make it easier to do my hair, not more difficult. In fairness he colored my hair multiple times and did a nice job with that. I decided to post this after seeing so many other reviews showing texts with unprofessional comments back to his clients.
