Dan Sung Sa is dark and smoky. It is filled with little alcoves along the walls. The grill is at the center with half a dozen cooks rapidly turning the skewers of meat. Is it the spot to start or end the night in KTown? Ddukbokki with Ramen: This massive plate will put you in a food coma. On a giant leaf of lettuce, squiggly elastic ramen noodles stretch to the edges of the plate. The rolled rice cakes are thick and as chewy as bubble gum. Triangles of thin fish cakes offers bit of protein in a sea of carbs and sweet red gochugang-based sauce. For veggies, you get onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and carrots. If you're still hungry, there's a hard boiled egg. Dumbbells: Vermicelli noodles are tightly wrapped in seaweed with bulbous battered ends. The dumbbell-shaped treats are crispy and chewy at the same time. To take advantage of the great deal on skewers, you need to purchase an alcoholic beverage, which is a smart idea for washing down all this delicious savory food. When you've had enough, pay at the counter in your way out. Parking: The tiny strip mall location has valet. If you're lucky, you might find street parking not too far away.

Dan Sung Sa is a hidden gem located in Koreatown! It's a well-known divey bar with a fun, lively atmosphere that keeps locals coming back. The service is quick and friendly, making it a great spot to kick back and relax. The food is hella good, authentic Korean comfort food that hits the spot every time. The drinks are also reasonably priced, so you can enjoy a few without breaking the bank. The fried chicken was flavorful, but next time I'll ask for the sauce on the side to dip. The skewers are my favorite, they're perfectly grilled and full of flavor. The Korean pancake was hot and crispy, just how I like it, and it's always a satisfying snack. Overall, Dan Sung Sa is a must-visit if you're craving good Korean bar food in a laid-back setting. It's the kind of place that feels like a local secret. Come early or hella late to avoid the crowds!

Some of my friends showed me this place spontaneously and it was good! Their menu has a lot of items on it so it's a little bit of something for everyone. I tried the Kimchi Pancake , Beef Bulgogi with Crystal Noodles , Potato Pancake , Fried Shumai , and the Corn Cheese. All of these had good flavor and decently priced for the amount of food you can get. My favorite was the Kimchi Pancake. Service was decent , our orders were taken fast and food came out relatively fast. Ambiance is amazing. It looks like you're not even in LA. Really good late night spot. Overall , would come again and try more of their menu items!

Yes, the food is good--but is it worth the wait? Absolutely not. You can find similar food anywhere in K-town. The inside is very cramped and doesn't feel the cleanest. I'm not sure why this spot is so popular or how people are willing to wait hours. The service was good, but overall, the wait just isn't worth it.

For gormandizers, visiting a place like Dan Sung Sa (an place that saturates IG reels) should be more than a hit or miss experience. It should be an experience that allows us to visit and contemplate the sum of our eating journey to understand exactly happened within this range. I am so happy to reflect upon my experience to this place because it was nothing short of impactful, immersive, and fresh. And for a dinosaur in the foodie-scape this is nothing short but a vacation to a new field where I frolicked. My friend Conrad and I had attempted to go here but the wait was an effective deterrent. Truth be told, we did not ask for the wait time the crowds outside were enough of an omen. But a few days ago, on Easter night, he and I decided to tackle the place around 10:00 p.m. and the wait for two was less than 15 minutes. We entered and we were seated in the corner of the counter that faced closest to the door. I genuinely felt like I was in a Korean Alley sitting down as I saw street vendors cook bites of wonder, with street notes and street sensibilities. The steam rising was a sort of mist that help transport me to a far land away. But being there was kind of weird cause I was in a corner and the chill of the entrance door bugged me. I asked for a possible change to our server and she spoke to the host and then he approached me and said "You have to wait outside." He said it, while using his thumb to make the motion of kicking me out. Other Yelpers have noted that this place has rude staff. I concur. The guy had no grace and he did not even say we cannot move you here are your options. But I remained composed as I want to be more patient and simply explained that we could stay in our current seating. I continued to express myself in the tone that I wanted to receive and Jean our server eventually followed the melody that the mute can hear--- that okf kindness. I will now transition to the food which was both a treat and engaging to eat. Like I said before, I was transformed to the alleys of Seoul here and I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and try something that I felt was traditional but not for me. In that way I could say I ate the flavors of Asian culture when they were not drenched in orange peel. I tasted the chicken feet and almost immediately regret it. There was almost no meat in the bite, there was only ungrilled and unfried chicken skin. I tasted the lack of heat. I tasted the skin. For ever more, it will stand as a ghost bite--- haunting me because it was so bad for me, but for others, who were raised on eating it on the regular the bite might have been just like my grandma made after playing squid games. But Conrad and I had items that were love on skewer and plate. So they had these super cheap bar bites like 1.99 for theam and I wanted to start ordering. Jean informed us that we could not order those if we were not drinking. I dont drink, I said, and almost like an echo that does more than parrot, he said, I don't either. I then asked what is the cheapest drink we can get so can order from the skewer section. She pointed to a dollar sake and I said give it to a customer and you take it. We also ordered the cheese corn, a sea food korean pancake, frog legs, garlic, chicken in some sauce (that was really good) and this bulgogi glass noodle soup that was also effectively warm, boney-brothy, korean rice cakes, grilled garilic and other stuff. What send me to the top of Hallasan- Korea's Mt. Fuji- was having a mouthful of the cheese corn, a peeled piece of roasted garlic, and the chicken that I cannot remember. The tastes were clean, worked well together and were familiar yet different in a lovely way. It was flavors I understood elevated by Korean ways and tricks that I believe were imported just for the place. The seafood pancake (once it cooled a bit) was shrimp based and it was cooked with chunks of carrots and other vegetables that were more than flavor profile building they made me feel like I ate a salad field within an egg. One of the reasons this place is so immersive is because they do not shy away from embracing the theme, like hard, hard. Everywhere you looked stickers and graffiti were there. The feeling of make shift eateries that were made of wood but in the street was so compelling is making about never visiting Korea because I spent sometime in its alleys, enjoying good food, with a good friend, with Korean drama around me. And that is the kind of eating that is not just fulfilling or delicious, it is transformative.

Such a cool vibe in here with really good food. I've been a couple of times and I always get food to share. Everything comes out pretty quick although there's usually a wait to get in! Typically moves fast. The service is friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. We got so much food last time I can't even name it all haha photos included:)

Probably one of my top 3 restaurants in US ever. when u walk in it's dark and cramped. Barely any space to walk. The seating surrounds a grill and there are tables on the outside for larger parties. I really recommend sitting on the counter. Cool to see the grill. They are quick with the service and everything is easy to order on a piece of paper. To order the $1.99 skewers you must buy alcohol. It is soooo worth it though. 2 people ate till we were stuffed for about $60 after tax and tip. Crazy deal. U MUST GET THE GRILLED STEAMED EGG. I'm addicted and obsessed. Another thing, BOSSAM IS LIKE $15!?!? I'm this economy is crazy. It's soooo good too. One of the best I've had. Comes with some soup and veggie sticks. If you want to order more u just tell the waiters what you want. Surprisingly didn't come out smelling like smoke. Must be some top notch ventilation over the grill. 10/10 must try for food and ambiance. Unlike anything I've ever had in the states.

This spot is one of those lowkey, late-night gems with a super cool, tucked-away vibe. Dim lighting, graffiti-covered walls, and an open grill setup--it feels like you found somewhere you weren't supposed to, in the best way. The skewers are the main event and they don't miss. Everything comes out hot, slightly charred, and packed with flavor. The chicken was juicy, the shrimp had a perfect snap, and the beef was rich and tender. Even the wings were glazed just right--sticky, smoky, and super satisfying. Simple menu, but they execute everything really well. One thing to know: you have to be 21 and order a beer if you want to order the skewers, so keep that in mind before you go. It adds to that izakaya-style experience, but definitely something people should know ahead of time. Overall, it's all about the atmosphere and quality bites--great for a chill night, grabbing drinks, and sharing a bunch of skewers with friends. Definitely a spot you go back to.

Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 My friend invite me here to have a dinner and drink. I passed by here a lot of time in the past and always saw a line. Now I get my chance to try it out. My friends ordered a lot of food. I mean a lot. We also had a few pitchers of beer and soju. The food are ok for me. Some of them are pretty pricey for my opinion. I would have to come back here again and order moderately to see what the true cost but for now they are solid 4.

Our son wanted to go there. Luckily we didn't have to wait at all. We ordered the lemonade soju. We had their spicy chicken wings, cheese omelette, cheesy corn, barbecue chicken, potato and kimchi pancake, pork skewer, spicy and non spicy chicken skewers, nut skewer, shrimp skewer. We liked the pancakes and the chicken wings the best. The place didn't disappoint. The ambience was cool and fun.

I was reading some of the reviews and a lot of them complained about the service, but I actually had a pretty good experience here. The servers were pretty friendly and willing to help. They are really busy so they might be a bit rushed but they weren't super rude or anything. I came on a saturday night around 8pm and a table for 2 was a 40 minute wait. I liked the vibes, and sitting at the bar station was nice being able to see the skewers being grilled. We got the ddukbokki, stir fried kimchi pork belly with tofu, chicken skewers, frog leg skewers, grilled egg skewers, and hot sake. Food was pretty good, it's what you'd expect from a pocha. My favorite was the stir fried kimchi and pork belly and tofu. It was a lot of food for 2 people, and I wish I could've tried some of the other skewers! It would be easier to do that with a bigger group & try a bigger variety of dishes

Absolutely DELICIOUS! Wow, I give this place a 9/10. We got here right at the opening, so all the food was extremely hot and fresh. The seating was really cool! The decor transports you to Korea immediately! We went with a booth, and engraved our names in the wall :) To eat, we got the corn cheese, kimchi pork belly, grilled pork belly, chicken feet, bbq pork ribs, shrimp skewer, stuffed shrimp and cream cheese wonton, and the cabbage soup. Just WOW! It was all so delicious! We also shared a grape suja! The service was also amazing, and we were attended to constantly without ever feeling rushed. My only take back is the price. I think for what we ate, it could've been a tad bit less. $105 was our total before tip, but a few of the dishes were very tiny. I'll likely be returning soon :) great place I'm glad to have been introduced to!

Chicken schnitzel ($20.5) - This came with whipped feta, arugula-mint salad, and sumac onion. The batter was over cooked and too crispy. For dessert my group tried a pistachio sfoglia ($12) which had some great tasting pistachio cream. Although I felt the dish was over priced it wasn't bad. However my group prefered the bread pudding ($9.50) which came with clover honey custard and vanilla ice cream. Overall the food wasn't bad, they have some creative ideas. Service was a little off, but the manager apologized for some missteps in some of the dishes and adjusted the bill accordingly.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.
