This is not an "old lady" store, but a shop that carries quality shoes that allow you to walk pain free and keep your feet and knees happy! While I'd love to wear super sexy high heeled shoes, my feet require shoes that provide support and allow me to walk without pain from planter fasciitis. That doesn't mean the shoes can't also be attractive! For at least 15 years now, I visit Jay's a few times a year to buy sneakers (Dansko Paisley are good looking and the best walking shoes), sandals (Wolky, Birkenstock, Dansko), boots (Dansko, Vionic) and slippers (Halfinger.) Jay's always has a good selection, carrying the newest styles each season, plus the classics, from these Brands and many others. For example, I know that Wolky Jewel is so comfortable that I can wear right out of the box; therefore, I buy standard black and then a new color every year. They never go out of style, they wear exceptionally well, are attractive (get lots of compliments) and walking is pain free. Twice a year they have incredible sales and it's worth going to see what is available in your size. The racks are right when you enter and arranged by size. Do they have the $140 dollar Dansko slides you wanted in your size and are they on sale for $49? Yes! Score! That's what happened yesterday! There were also several pairs of sandals on sale for just $10 that were originally $125. That's a sale! During the Covid-19 days they are providing a sanitizing station, sell masks, wear masks, keep their distance, and have arranged the store so there is plenty of room for you to keep your distance while walking around to try on shoes. Typically the sales rep will put the shoes on me, but yesterday I tried on the sneakers myself. At the cash register, they have installed a plastic shield and there is sanitizer for you to use after using the pen to sign receipt. Jay's also sells wallets, which I needed since mine somehow disappeared the other day, so I picked up a bright turquoise one that is easy to spot. They sell cross body bags perfect for when you are walking but don't want to carry anything other than your phone, keys and credit cars. And some handbags. All are made of good quality leather and come in black and some surprisingly fun colors. Yesterday I picked up a new pair of Dansko Paisley since walking is the only exercise for me right now with all public and gym pools being closed, and scored a new pair of fur lined Dansko slip ons for the Fall. I won't be back. They talk a good talk, but as most shoe companies, they also make policy that makes the Customer depend on bad shoes. Very expensive shoes and no returns. I bought a pair of New Balance but found they don't work.For a company that supposedly caters to people with bad feet or are disabled. . .and then not have a program for returns/exchanges?!? This is a great place to find expensive old mad shoes that will fit your over sized feet. Same old song and dance or anyone that needs to shop at a big and tall or plus size store. All function. No Fashion. Ok, so the shoes are U G L Y, BUT the are comfortable. You really need to treat your feet right, so it's worth it. The shoes here are the best of the best, and the sales people are too... almost to a fault. They take their time with each customer to give them the best service possible. We need a jays in California! I was in the area on vacation and low and behold I find a shoe store that can actually help me. I don't remember the gentlemen's name but I called first to make sure they would have my size. When I arrived he measured me feet and showed me a few options. It's taken me 32 years on this earth to find out I have really, really wide feet. Not just wide but I purchased a men's wide hiking shoe. I was not impressed from the phone call to see if they had a certain item until check out time. Three staff available and all three staff very monotone in action and voice. First impressions they all seemed mad and didn't want to be bothered. No one smiled or seemed to care you where there. As I looked at clearance before I left I felt I was in prison as a staff stood next to counter with her hand on her hip watching me every second, AWKWARD??? Will not return can get products cheaper on Amazon not worth the weird feeling you get when there plus no small bags for small products so my insoles got really wet it was pouring out. My boyfriend has large feet so we went to Jay's wide shoes. He was hoping to find something and as soon as we walked in we found a size 15 which was perfect! But they refused to let us try it on and insisted that my boyfriends feet were not wide but just long we would've at least like to try on the shoes but he kicked us out. read more

I love the customer service here! My wife recently was diagnosed with arthritis by her podiatrists. The doctor suggested that she wear graphite/ metal plates in her shoes to help her feet/ toes from flexing. The store is located right in the Clackamas Promenade and near the Target. The store has a vary localized mom and pop feel to it. Even so they have a great selection of wide shoes and specialize in this area. The person that helped us was very friendly and got us exactly the granite soles that my wife needed. There was no pressure to buy and he was very good at explaining what the soles would do for my wife's feet. He installed the soles in my wife's shoes and made sure she was comfortable walking around in them before suffering the purchase. We ended up buying a set of the graphite soles and also a pair of wide jogging shoes that he recommended. We will keep coming back here for the friendly and superb customer service and the value we received for our purchases. I wandered over to Jays Wide Shoes after visiting with my foot doctor. I wasn't really in the mood to BUY shoes, but wanted to get properly sized after getting my bunions poked and proded by the doc. I appreciated that the staff at Jays Wide Shoes didn't pressure me to buy, but they helped me out nonetheless with finding the proper fit for my funky-shaped feet. Once sized, I went online to do some price comparisons... Some were competitive with Jays, while others were cheaper. Little Shop of Shoe Horrors, just in time for Halloween! Beware! Even though the name is Jay's Wide Shoes, not all of the shoes they sell are wide width shoes! I told the clerk what I was looking for when I came in; I have a wide foot with a high arch and I didn't want something with a heel, although I need a bit more support than usual. She didn't have any specific suggestions but told me to look around to see what I liked. I checked out the shoes and most of them were too squishy. Then I saw the Dansko's that I wanted to try. I said I needed an 8 1/2 wide and she said that they are European and that would translate to a 39. I assumed that it would be wide because the name, right??? Wrong! She brings out the shoes, whips out a big metal shoehorn and proceeds to quickly jam my foot into the shoe, despite my exclaiming: "Stop" and "Ouch, they don't fit!" Surprise! Dansko's don't come in wide widths so if you want those you can save yourself the trip to Clackamas. (I made sure I did my own fitting after that.) Next I decided to try on another type with more support (New Balance) but those were "rocker" shoes that try to help you walk but just make your calves hurt, and you feel like you're going to trip over your toes, so, next! (I don't need any help walking, thanks!) I was almost ready to give up when I saw the Klogs. She brought those out and, instead of setting them down, she just threw them out onto the floor and one of them landed on my foot. More pain! I pointed out that she did that and there was no apology, she just said it wasn't intended. Of course it wasn't, but why so careless? And what is it with people that they can't simply say "I'm sorry?" I ended up buying the Klogs, but with almost no help from the sales clerk. She finally thawed out a little when I actually bought the shoes. Sheesh! Update: I had to take the Klogs back because they were too long and not wide enough for my winter socks. I had a much better experience on Tuesday afternoon when two nice gentlemen were manning the store (one of them was opening the door and handing out candy to the costumed kids). I asked for a similar shoe since the Klogs are also limited in their width selection, and he suggested Drews. I was finally able to find the width I needed so I didn't have to go up a half-size to get it, and have a shoe that doesn't fit right. I recommend that if you go here, don't go on a Sunday when Debbie is there, go during the week for better service. read more

I went to the other Jay's in Beaverton. The sales staff are really professional. I'm not an easy fit because I have diabetes. They have a specialist who fit me with orthodics that I can insert in my shoes. After they were made, they encouraged me to come back and buy shoes when I had my new orthodics verses the day that I ordered the inserts custom made for me. When the orthodics were ready, I went back to the store and then the staff really showed me how experienced they were. I actually had a lady sales person and she knew her business. She helped me select two pairs of shoes to start with, and hooray!!! They both fit me with my custom made orthodics, and I am like a new person without achy breaky feet. P.S. They have a good selection of wide size shoes for both women and men. They also sell high quality diabetic socks. They almost always have in stock the size/style I'm interested in. I disagree with the reviewer who said the shoes were ugly. Not true. There are different styles available to fit everyones' tastes. Always good customer service. Far superior to If the Shoe Fits. These people are wonderful.husband had a stroke and had to have special shoes to accommodate a foot brace. they came out to the car in the parking lot to fit him as he could not walk. And it was raining! Then, we had to return the shoes which had not been worn as found out he did not in fact need brace when went to rehab. they returned them with no questions! would highly recommend them for your wide shoe needs. read more

I went in to Jays in Clackamas suffering with serious foot pain due to an injury to my Achilles tendon, I left there walking much easier and with significantly less pain. I love my shoes and the professionalism you get when shopping here. I did have a problem with one my shoes so I returned 51 days later to correct the problem. Now, after two foot surgeries, encroaching age, impending total knee replacement and a current size 81/2 double wide, I am still going to Jay's for the service, fit and well made shoes.
