Because I need shoes with good support, I buy a lot of them at Shoe Mill and similar stores who carry Birkenstock, Merrill's, Vionic, Brooks and other shoes that offer high arch support and wide widths. If it wasn't for the poor customer service, I'd give this store 4 stars for their selection. But the young lady that "helped" me was not friendly, acted like it was a burden to go in the back to check for sizes, and just was not pleasant in any way. Not expecting a big fake welcome, but some acknowledgment would have been nice. These type of shoes are expensive, and I buy several pairs each season - I'll give my hard earned cash to a store who appreciates my business and treats customers with respect. read more

NEVER GO HERE!!! I purchased several pairs of shoes here. After I had paid for my shoes, I used the store's hand sanitizer that was sitting next to the pens at their cash register. The hand sanitizer must have been a bit clogged, and when I pressed on it, it shot out and flew into my eye. My eye was burning and I asked the store associate if I could quickly rinse my eye with water. She refused to allow me to use the water in the employees bathroom. When I told her that my eye was burning from the alcohol from the sanitizer, she still refused to allow me any water at all. She would not get me water nor would she allow me to use the employee bathroom. I then had to drive 20 minutes home with my eye burning and watering. When I tried to call and speak to the store manager about the treatment I received at his store he said "What do you want me to do about it?" And then he hung up on me. The next day, my husband and I decided to go back and return my shoes. I loved the shoes, but I certainly wasn't going to give them my money. My husband, who works in retail, was appalled at the way that they treated us when we came back into the store to return the shoes. Customer service here is absolutely appalling. I was a paying customer who had an accident on their premises. I simply asked for water and was denied. For that reason, I would urge everyone to never spend money here. Never!! I read more

I have been shopping at the Bridgeport Village Shoe Mill store for several years. My feet are difficult to fit because of their width, high arches and having to wear custom made orthotics. My difficulty was erased when I met Leslie Grimes, Manager, at that store. She is knowledgeable, personable, and extremely helpful. She has helped make the shoe purchasing experience pleasurable for me. In addition to her in-store help, she even special ordered a pair of shoe for me to meet my color request. So I took some time to write this review. My wife had to visit with our sales rep TREVOR DOWD who was very helpful when my wife and I came for her but also inquired about shoes fir me as I stand all day for my job and have had pain and numbness in my thigh. Trevor suggested a pair of men's Dankos would be a big help due to proper arching of the soles etc. I was doubtful at first, but my wife encouraged me to try them on and walk around. I did so, and Trevor added that they would help decrease the pain, which I was also skeptical of. But without trying and giving a chance I figured it might be worth it.... The staff here are very helpful and they have a decent selection. I actually found out I was wearing the wrong size shoe for years thanks to the great service here. They truly go out of their way to make sure if they do not have your size that they can try and find it at another store. I work in the restaurant industry and have been wanting to get insoles that were right for my feet and possibly shoes. Not even knowing whether I had a flat foot or high arch etc. been using Doctor Scholls of all I went into Shoe Mill and Trevor Dowd was so helpful went above and beyond so I could find my best insole and shoe. Today is after day 1. Big difference. My feet don't hurt at all while I work. Of course they are a little achy but that's normal for my current work hours. Yes I'm taking Trevor's advice and working into my new insoles this week. Trading them out for the shoe insert the keens came with. Yes, the shoes are expensive. Yes, it will probably feel odd having the full-service staff measure your feet, assist in your putting them on, and lacing them up for you. Yes, I'd recommend you get over these and get your next shoes here because they are both worth it! Shoe Mill sells top-quality footwear from some great brands (Merrell, SAS, Brooks, etc.). These are all far more comfortable than all the big brand names sold at the big retailers and sporting goods shops, and will last lots longer too. You actually save money in the long run. You'll also be much more comfortable over the course of the life of your shoes because of the care the staff puts into ensuring you get the perfect shoes for you. read more

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write about the PHENOMENAL work (I. e. Cure) the sales associate, Erick did for me and my friend. I have been suffering from what eventually became an incredibly debilitating case of Plantar Faciitis. I was dropping to the floor in agonizing pain.... Every. Single. Day. Then spending the rest of the day limping very painfully. I wasted an enormous amount of time and most especially money (on a fixed income) on what I thought and was told were tried and true methods/remedies/shoe's, countless insoles, BALLS, ugh so many different balls, tennis, racquet, softball, baseball ect. Will gladly post a pic later. Nothing worked. Ever. It was going on six months. Turning into excruciating pain. ...... Until I met a gentleman named Erick (at least I hope that's his name, it took me forever to publish this). Anyway, ERICK was so, SO incredibly knowledgeable. Two seconds we walked into the door nothing yet said and he saw how I was walking (!!!) and pointed at me and calmly asked "plantar fasciitis, huh?". BOOM My friend and I sat down because we're like "okay, we're dealing with a professional here". So he proceeded to explain in more laymens terms about my affliction waaaaaay better than my doctor and even knew what time(s) of day was the absolute worst. For those of you who have or have had this, you must know exactly how awesome it is/was when someone speaks your special "dialect", I guess would be a good way to describe it. Seriously, just talking to this man, made me feel better. Hahaha At no point did I feel like I was talking with a salesman. At no point did I feel like I was pushed into anything, he even calmly suggested I could merely leave here with a seven dollar massage ball and it would do the trick in some time. Of course, we left with way more than that. I know this is an insanely long review, which, to be honest, is usually reserved for people to just unfairly, complain about a restaurant/coffee shop/business/zoo/adoption center/humane society/President Eisenhower/Matlock ect.. SHOE MILL however, deserves every letter praise in these paragraphs. You will not be disappointed, regardless of why you are there. .... If only an Erick-like person was in every business. It seems like it's easy to buy shoes online these days, but at this store I really felt like I was working with someone who really cares if my shoes are just as comfortable at the beginning of my 12 hour shift at the hospital, as at the end. THE BEST place to find shoes that meet your needs. The manager Erik is phenomenal--super helpful and knowledgeable in all the products available, and just the nicest guy! Last August he recommended HOKAs for my student-nurse preceptorship and they were perfect for adjusting to that whole "standing-for-12-hours-straight" thing that nurses do. Now that I've started my full-time RN job I needed some additional pairs of shoes to switch between when doing three to four 12-hour shifts back to back. He instantly pulled out 3 shoes that he recommended (Joya, Cloudace & newest model of HOKAs that I bought last year) and had me walking on the sidewalk to test them out. I wanted to buy all three!!! I decided on the two brands I hadn't bought previously and I can't wait to wear them this week on my next 12-hr shifts! THANK YOU ERIK! I was referred here by a chiropractor to grab some insoles from here and I was fairly skeptical given my age (26). It was worth the money even without my discount, the experience alone was immaculate. First and foremost, the guy that helped me knew what he was doing and what he was talking about. I hope he gets a raise or more paid vacation time for getting so helpful during a global pandemic. I didn't catch his name, but I do know I've been bombarding my friends with recommendations for this store. I came in looking to find a pair of black comfortable shoes for work. I had my eye on a pair of clogs like a Dansko. The store manager helped me and told me that, due to the shape of my foot, that type of shoe was not right for me. He brought out a pair I had never considered, then added a thin pad to put in the shoe to make them fit even better. That man is the Shoe Whisperer!! The ones he chose were perfect. Initially Customer service was great. Was buying Keen sandals for my daughter (who wasn't with me) and after leaving the store and driving home I was called by the store to say I was under charged by $2.70 and they needed me to call to pay them. I called and the whole ordeal was a hassle...they credited me and charged me and the part I didn't like is they were going to write my credit card info down and wait for their supervisor. But promised to shred it later. I went back in to return because of course they didn't fit my daughter and that was another hassle...I will not go here to get shoes again but the initial customer service was great. They definitely got all their debits from my account and I have not seen my credits hit the bank yet- could be a few days. read more

He made me laugh, and I enjoyed his incredible foot, shoe, and sock expertise. Yep...socks are a thing. I learned SO much, and I absolutely support buying $100+ shoes. And apparently I've been tying my shoes incorrectly for 25+ years. It's about investing in yourself, your body mechanics, and day-to-day movements. I have shoes that fit, and socks that improve blood flow while removing sweat (and stench). I will never shop anywhere else for shoes again. I have a crooked spine, and leg length issues, tight muscles, numbness, a job where I'm on the move for 8+ hours a day, and now I'm equipped and wiser about my foot health. I can't even fit them into most of my working shoes. Greg Aalvik is so incredibly knowledgeable, I've been wearing the wrong size shoes for years.
