There's not a bad seat in the whole house. I actually love sitting in the back row of the balcony and that's where I purchased my seats, but when I got there, they had changed my seats to an area somewhat closer to the stage. The seat was still amazing with a great view of the stage, but I missed my back row! I think it was meant as an upgrade, so all I can do is appreciate it. Unfortunately, our interaction with her was extremely unpleasant. She ( black womsn wearing scarf and beanie) was rude in her tone, her demeanor, and in the way she communicated not only to me, but also to my elderly aunt. It was honestly disappointing. What made it stand out even more is that we later met another staff member who was passing out buttons for the kids' show. He was warm, welcoming, and excited to talk about membership and ways to support SFJAZZ. That is the kind of experience that makes you proud to support a San Francisco institution. I'm a local and I genuinely want to support organizations like this, but interactions like the one we had at will call make you second-guess whether you want to give your time and money. And if two of us walked away feeling this way, I'm sure we're not the only ones. Again, the performance and the rest of the experience were great this feedback is only about that one staff interaction. The Cadillac Hotel is a City landmark that is home to 160 formerly homeless people. It was the…read morefirst residential hotel on the West Coast to be taken over by a non-profit and provide on-site supportive housing, and has been an anchor for the Tenderloin community. The Hotel recently celebrated its 100th Birthday. The Cadillac is also home to the Patricia Walkup Memorial Piano -- an 1884 Steinway Concert Grand donated to the hotel in honor of the late community activist. The Piano spent most of its life in a Castle, is worth about $125,000 and was painstakingly restored for 10 years back to its old glory. It is also connected to a sound system. Since July, the Cadillac Hotel -- along with the Tenderloin Housing Clinic and the North-of-Market Community Benefits District -- has been hosting "Concerts at the Cadillac," a weekly series of free piano concerts every Friday at 12:00 Noon for the neighborhood. We have had a series of professional pianists like jazz performers Andy Ostwald, Jeffrey Chin, Jeff Orchard and Jarrett Cherner, world music performers like Wendy Loomis, Celtic folk performers like Elisa Welch, classical performers like the UCSF Piano Committee and talented amateurs who just want to play!! Everybody is welcome to attend the weekly concerts at Noon, and we are always interested in lining up pianists who want to play. The audience is always appreciative, and playing on this particular piano is kind of like driving the Ferrari from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." He shared stories about his background (including being a chemist and literally building his own argon system to preserve wines), and it all ties back to his mission: making truly high-end, rare wines accessible by the glass. We're talking wines from the 1940s, beautifully aged and thoughtfully served, plus unique fortified wines you just don't come across. Every single pour comes with a bit of history, and you leave feeling like you experienced something special. Beyond the wine, Brando himself makes the experience. He's warm, generous with his time, and clearly pours his heart into what he's built. It feels intimate, intentional, and really rare in the best way.
