I went here last night for my birthday and really loved the vibe. It has such a cool speakeasy feel, and the bar area is beautiful with all the bottles lined up behind it. The drink menu was amazing, and our drinks were great. The place was busy, but our table service was really good. The bar seemed a little backed up at one point, but they recovered quickly. The Cuban jazz band was really good too. My only small disappointment was that the musicians didn't bother to dress to match the classy feel of the room or do a mic check for the singer. This is exactly the experience that I received as I paid a visit to "Dawn Club", a cocktail bar combined with speakeasy vibes and live music that showcases jazz, swing, big band, and other genres of music. Located on Annie St and just a few steps away from Market St in the SOMA/Financial District of San Francisco, this place has been delivering some amazing tunes and vibes in the current form since 2023. Keep in mind that reservations are required here as seating is limited. However, if you arrive in between 5-7pm, they will accept walk-ins. The business hours usually run from 5pm-12am while staying open until 2am from Wednesday through Saturday. Even though this place has only been around since 2023, there is a ton of deep rich history behind it that goes back nearly a century. The original Dawn Club (with completely different ownership) existed in the same Monadnock Building on Market St in the 1930's and 1940's as it was a popular music venue from the Prohibition-era up until the end of WW2. Considering that everything ceased to operate up until 2023, the current ownership did the unthinkable and recreated everything as if you've taken a step back in time to a bygone era. This takes me to the interior layout of this place. There are no words to describe just how much I appreciate what they've done. The dim-lit lighting paired with the gorgeous bar, art-deco styling, swanky leather seating and beautifully-marbled tables really showcases just how well executed everything is. I'm also a huge fan of jazz music as the entire ambiance and environment is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Since we had a 7pm reservation, we were seated towards the front near the stage. Our hostess took our order as I went with a "Mutt's Mix" for myself and a "Grasshopper" for her. As soon as 8pm rolled around, the band "Fog City Swing" arrived on stage. They are a well-known big band ensemble that make several appearances at Dawn Club. The entire vibe and electricity hits perfectly as this is more along the lines of a dark bar that you might experience in New York or Chicago. All in all, "Dawn Club" absolutely exceeded my expectations on all levels. The entire layout, drink selection, and variety of musical guests that play here is definitely up my alley. The place feels like modern elegant yet retro1940s 50s 60s...such a nice change of beautiful ambience compared to the many dive bars all over San Francisco. Staff were all friendly from the hostess to the bartender. $15 cover charge for a romantic table, but no charge if yo spot at the bar. Decided to spend the weekend in San Francisco and found myself craving something that felt East Coast. I'm a huge jazz fan and will forever miss a proper New York style jazz bar. After a little digging on Yelp , I discovered Dawn Club and was instantly transported back to my early 20s--young(ish), vibrant, and full of energy. Tucked between two skyscrapers in the Financial District (or whatever we're calling it now) in SF. This place completely took me back to my East Coast days. Total New York jazz vibe. Beautiful ambiance, fantastic and staff friendly enough for a big cit dealing with different characters....music was absolutely on point. Honestly? I had such a good time. A cocktail or two in (Old Fashion of course). I found myself doing a light shimm (millennial version, as I'm 45ish) twisting my hips just enough to avoid breaking hip. That left this solo night out with zero regrets and pure joy. The band was flawless. The piano had its main-character solo moment that made the crowd erupt. The cello slowed everything down and settled the room. Then the trumpet brought everyone right back off their seats, into a vibe and onto the dance floor. Thank you for such a great night. Dawn Club has fantastic vibes -- it's a smaller, more intimate space than the nearby Local Edition, and a bit more dressed-up and classy (though no one's shaming you if you're wearing your SF-chic hoodie either). The highlight is the jazz -- the performers always sound like real professionals and you get a great up close view no matter which table you sit at. Got some cocktails and also tried a spirits flight here with friends -- they were all pretty strong! I got a mezcal based cocktail which was very smoky and smooth. The only crime was that they charged $2 for an ice cube in one of my friends' drinks. We found it amusing since that's the first time I've ever seen that happen in SF. We had great seats near the front on the bar side. They just ask you to order from the bar. No biggie. Drinks were great. I had the Espresso martini. Taste just like you would expect, coffee and vodka. The Ella Fritz was my favorite. Really refreshing even though it was small. The Pancho Lopez with Mezcal was made to perfection. My friend and I loved this spot! We are already planning to go back. We came on jazz night and it was packed. We walked in and were told you needed a reservation or you can stand at the bar. Many of the tables were booked already and the bar was a filled standing room. There were some stools and maybe two high tables that were taken. We ordered an espresso martini from the bar, which was so good! The best I've had yet! It was hard to see the stage at the bar but the ambiance regardless was nice. The other two looked unappealing, so I'd probably get an NA beer (there's only one option) next time. An amazing experience to those who enjoy jazz! it's quite an intimate space with limited tables and a bar towards the back that you're welcome to stand by when the music is playing. The band we saw was mostly improv jazz which is so cool, i was expecting smooth jazz but i was delightfully surprised. Reservations are highly recommended as it can get quite busy. Our server was very sweet and she checked up on my party when our drinks were empty, and always made sure we had water. The show is about an hour long, and it's also the recommended reservation time. No food is served, and it wasn't easy to know this as the website doesn't include to much details on whether or not we'd have food and drinks, so we were a bit disappointed but nonetheless a great time here. They do offer a small snack but that about all we knew of. I'll definitely be recommending this place to my friends and family! read more

Dawn club is perfect if you are looking for a jazz bar! The interior is very elegant and the music was very good. We didn't make any reservations so we hung out by the bar area. After ~20 mins, we got lucky and were able to snag some pretty good seats in the bar area facing the stage. As many people mentioned, the drinks are a little pricier at $20 - $25 but since they don't charge a cover here, I think it's worth it. The bartenders and servers were also very nice. The reason why this is 4 stars is because I tried 2 drinks while I was there and thought both were just okay. Maybe I need to try some different ones next time. read more

Came here during the storm and even though we were 30 minutes early for our reservation, they still sat us. Note that in order to get a reservation after 7pm you do have to pay a small fee per person, which goes to the band. Per the website there are time limits, however, because of the rain I think we were allowed to stay longer, which was so awesome! We caught the first set of the band and had a great time. The ambiance is swanky, sexy, and cool. A really awesome place for a date. They do not serve food, so eat before or have plans after! And yes. Yes yes yes the drinks are EXPENSIVE. However, the bartenders are really crafting some unique cocktails and service was spectacular. We had 4 drinks (whiskey flight and 3 cocktails) and it came to $109 (not including the fee for the reservations which you pay when making the reservation). Wonderful ambience: very intimate vibe to bring a date for the night. I specifically reserved for a table service which required a person fee when there is band performance(starting at 8PM). However, you can walk in for the bar section and get few drinks there. Time limit is 1.5 hr stay. *no food, just cocktail menu. -1 star because even after paying the table service that's specifically stated going into band performance, the drinks price are still a bit high for me personally. Most speakeasy or nice bars are normally $17-19. However, here are ranked from ~ $20-24. Overall, I enjoyed the performance. Interior is lovely as well. I was nervous that I wasn't going to be able to find a table, but I was a-ok. Since I was riding solo, reservations weren't available, so I chanced it and was able to get a cute little table in perfect view of the stage. The ambiance was to die for! Green, gold, and black interior. I'm sad I didnt take more photos of the interior, but wow! It was stunning. Ok, the drinks! SO GOOD. I started off with the Hot Seven and followed it up with The Mutts Mix. Both were amazing, but I think for me the winner was the Mutts Mix. All I saw in the menu was ginger and banana. SOLD! And it was so great. The music was lovely as well. I'm a huge lover of Jazz so it was right up my alley. It was a 3 piece band with a female singer. Absolutely lovely music.
