Overall, I really like Vasa Fitness. I've been a member for 2 years, and overall have had positive…read moreexperiences. It's by far one of the most affordable gyms around with friendly staff, professional trainers, excellent classes, a great selection of machines, equipment and facilities including pool, steam and sauna. Lately, however, some negatives have been marring the overall experience. VASA did a massive membership drive/upgrade at the end of 2025 which has increased foot traffic dramatically. It's rare to visit now and not have a wait to use machines (especially treadmills). And speaking of treadmills, there are currently 3 treadmills out of order, and it appears that 1 or 2 are missing, given the spacing in the first row of machines. My second and bigger criticism is the subpar housekeeping, specifically the men's locker room toilets. There has been an ongoing issue with at least one toilet being clogged by paper and waste. And often multiple stalls with no toilet paper. There has been one stall marked "out of order" for a week. Yesterday and today there was another toilet clogged, and the other two stalls with no paper. Other times I've seen toilets clogged and water that has overflowed. Really disgusting to walk through that! Overall, I give this gym 4 stars for equipment and facilities offered. Sadly, they deserve 1 star for maintenance and housekeeping.

I'm thinking in my head there is no competition. You have nothing to offer here. It's not even a question. Happy to return to my home gym tomorrow, where there is everything I want and more It was nice to try a class out, but I would never come back here not to mention The class was probably 80 something degrees with no fans going inside the room.

You'd think with all the fitness centers and yoga studios out there, that it wouldn't be hard to find something that fit that criteria for me. Unfortunately, it is. Then I heard about CorePower. I actually heard about CorePower a couple years ago from a friend in Colorado, but there were no studios near me. In the past few year, I've noticed more CorePower studios opening up into the suburbs of Chicago. Finally, last fall, I signed up here for the trial week of free yoga. The first class I took was lovely. The heat was turned up (kind of unexpected -- it wasn't a heated class), the lights were dim, the studio was small, and I left feeling wonderful. I didn't like, however, how the instructor spent most of her time talking & walking around instead of participating in the full workout with us. I guess that's a matter of personal preference, though. She did stop to show us certain poses or to correct us if we needed to fix ours. The class ended with a lavender-soaked cool towel across the forehead. It was so nice. The next few classes I took by different instructors were all very similar. I would have liked a little more variety. Routine is nice, but so is change. Then again, you can only experience so much in a week... This CorePower location is great: clean showers, clean locker rooms (bring your own lock), and a nice little area in the front to sit and relax or buy some [expensive] yoga clothes and accessories. This location also has its' own parking lot (with three-hour free parking) which is a plus in downtown Elmhurst. At least I know I won't have to worry about parking whenever I'm here. As much as I wanted to, I didn't sign up for the membership. Although $100-120 a month (I cannot recall the exact amount) is very good for a yoga studio, it just wasn't in my budget. Maybe some day....

5 Stars Easily (Cue…read morethe Violins) You know how sometimes you dread going to exercise class? Or once you stop going, it's hard to come back? I had to stop going to Zumba for several months (*tear) But as soon as I cleared post-partum and doctor gave me the OK, I went running (well, not really running) back to Lisa D's classes! (cue the Latin beats, cue the Bass) Zumba with Lisa D remains one of my favorite forms of exercise. And really, with the energy in the room and the awesome choreography by Lisa D, it doesn't feel like exercise. Lisa's routines are fun, her cueing is excellent and her energy is contagious. It's fun on so many levels. And since we're talking levels, the newcomer need not worry, you can take the class at any level of intensity, low or high impact, mild swinging of hips to all out booty shaking. The rhythm IS going to get you. And while I just quoted an oldie but a goodie by madame Estefan, the music Lisa uses is awesome--a great mix of current music, salsa, samba, meringue, swing, country, old skool--everything for everybody! She has recently expanded her class to Wednesday mornings at the DeForest Dance Studio in Elmhurst and I love the new digs. There are also many Zumba events she hosts--check out her website for the current events. Come to class, I dare you to complete a class without smiling at least once. I love Zumba with Lisa D!

There is something unpolished and cheesy about a significant number of them. Lisa D. keeps it real. She knows her stuff and shakes it like a salt shaker. I've been going to her group sessions for a year now and I've been upgraded from White to Latina. And while I've managed to drop over 35 pounds by attending her classes 2-3x a week, I've still kept my booty. Again, Latina I tell you! Seriously! You will be hard pressed to find Zumba that works you as much as Lisa's. Zumba itself incorporates many different styles of dancing, but she brings with her previous experience in yoga, hip-hop and turbokick, to name a few. You're getting a little sample of everything and working each muscle. Not to say that you won't get a decent workout with other instructors, but I just haven't found them to be as hardcore. Hate to say it, but she makes the rest of them look sloppy. Her moves are purposeful and precise. In the year I've taken Zumba, I've seen her misstep MAYBE a handful of times. She's extremely accurate and a genius with her dance routines. And while some of the moves are complicated, she executes them cleanly enough that anyone can follow if they pay attention. Almost all of her cues are visual, which I find to be quite refreshing from the happy-happy-joy-joy cheerleader shouting type teachers. I feel completely confident in giving another five sexy stars to Lisa D. and her Zumba class. I would have fallen off the weight loss wagon months ago if it weren't for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Addison Ice Arena. I just don't think it can get any better. Well, except for when her and Zumba instructor Tom Lafser's* powers combine. *http://www.zumba.com/profiles/53877/thomas-lafser

For our family, WSC serves multiple purposes. My husband is an active tennis player who tries to play at least twice a week. Considering how brutally cold Chicago winters are, it wouldn't be feasible to play outdoors during the winter months. So with WSC, he has been able to find a community of players to play throughout the winter. On the weekends, my husband would give our young girls and cousins private tennis lessons. There are four, all year-round, indoor courts, and eight dome courts for the winter. We have been consistently going every weekend for the last four months and have yet to encounter any availability issues. In addition to tennis, our girls have also joined the swimming lessons. For level 3, there are usually 2-4 instructors. Thus far, we have had a good experience with Ms. Abby, Mr. Christopher, and Ms. Christina. The class size is generally around 8-12 kids depending on attendance. Knowing how young children are, it takes a ton of effort and patience to get them to listen to instructions. Huge kudos to these instructors for having that high-level patience! As for myself, I would utilize the gym equipment such as treadmills, ab machines, and weights. All of the equipment are well maintained and clean. WSC could get busy on the weekends but I have not had trouble with machine availability. All in all, WSC is a solid place for anybody looking for a place to play indoor tennis, have young children who are interested in swimming, and/or just trying to maintain healthy life choices.
