I just joined here a few weeks ago, and although I haven't tried everything that the club has to offer what I can tell you is that it has everything I need... and more. I joined this club because I have been a high-end fitness club member for many years. When I moved here from California, I tried the LifeTime in Burr Ridge and quickly quit because the place was so filthy and crowded all the time. Forced to take some time off due to a medical issue, I began examining my gym options once again in the area. Score Sports down the street from my house wouldn't even answer membership inquiries (I filled out two), I didn't like what the Country Clubs in the area had to offer, and Five Seasons didn't seem like my vibe. I walked into Midtown and immediately saw that it was a great place for me to get my workouts done in an environment I'm accustomed to. The other bonus is that I don't have to pay extra fees for childcare, which added up big time at other gyms between my four children. Do I wish they had a well developed hot power vinyasa program geared toward master yogis? Yes. But what I'm really here for is the weight room, the fact that I have a spot I can do CrossFit WODs on my own, or I can join a variety of classes from spin to Pilates if it works with my schedule. This gym is a lot smaller than the gym I was a member at in California for many years, but I like the fact that it's a bit more quaint and exclusive. People are really just here to workout, just like I am. I like that. I'm not at the gym to be social, I'm there to achieve my fitness goals. As an aside, their Kidtown allows food from the Cafe to be ordered and delivered to your children. This means I can come around lunch time when the kids are out of school, feed them lunch, AND I GET TO WORKOUT! The only caveat is that because my 8-month old isn't walking yet, the kids can only stay for 90 minutes. But when the little one is walking I'll have 2 1/2 hours of freedom -- and that to me is priceless. read more

PROS: The staff! Really their best asset is their friendly staff members who get to know you. This includes wonderful trainers who can take you from zero to hero as far as someone who NEVER works out, to someone who can develop a fitness routine. Programs: Lots of great programs like Tennis-In-No-Time, swim lessons for kids, and as I said before, great trainers you can book to achieve your personal goals. Tons of equipment to choose from in a bright, open space. Some regulars you can get to know and learn techniques from. CONS: Pool area feels too "open". Don't need peep windows all around the pool. I felt weird swimming in there so I never did. Close it off. Management change up/corporate vibe. Don't let you even hold your account for a month now (even though they used to). It's a pricey, luxury gym with clients that pay more to get more so making people jump through tons of hoops to hold a month for travel, work, etc doesn't gel with that vibe. If you give a months notice this should allow plenty of time to adjust staffing. You have to pay extra for a lot of stuff, so in order to use a lot of what really makes a gym like this worth the extra $ in the first place, you have pay EVEN MORE. Otherwise you are mostly utilizing equipment, classes, and such that you can get at other gyms for way less. read more

Three stars is not a reflection on Randy, Zach or the club. They and the club are top notch. If You have ever wanted to play tennis, join the TNT program. The Shot of The Week class on Saturday afternoon is fun and will cost $30 My problem is with the sales staff. The sales woman I dealt with was not professional. When I questioned price, I was a picker who did not belong. The hot high school prospect she had all night for. Guess what; I was an easier sale on the spot. The current group fitness manager can't even get virtual classes to run. Her staff isn't equipped to handle anything and when I had my 5th or 6th issue told them I expected this a to be available and start on time the front desk staff said " things happen". No sensitivity at all. The new GM spent money on things current members didn't even ask for. Membership has declined and what used to be my community of gym friends is non existent. The new GM changed the vibe and for a very expensive gym there's no value anymore nor is there any appreciation for members. I left and not one person from management reaches out to check. Old time member - but visited recently on guest pass as was back in area. May possibly rejoin if I move back later this year. Noticed many changes since I've been here last. I'll give my honest observations. Pro's: New equipment, clean as can be, people are constantly cleaning the equipment, mask wearing is required although out of 8 people in entire club at the time I was there during the beginning of our recent snowstorm - 1 younger gentlemen in his 30's had his mask below his neck and full face exposed whole time and others had on and off during exercises. Con's: Dining area closed, locker room open, but steam rooms closed, locker room amenities gone, basketball court which I loved about this club gone, downstairs workout area - my favorite area of club gone to cater to peloton crowd called the theater ( assumed an idea from a corporate muckety muck who thought this was a good idea ) - makes no sense to me - different demographic audience then those who enjoy club experience with various workout areas - so this means many machines are no longer available, etc.... Overall would I rejoin - depends - locker rooms would need to be back to full amenities, dining cafe would have to be fully open (as I can dine out at many restaurants now), and the cost would have to now be commensurate to what facilities are now available - missing downstairs workout area and basketball court is a bummer to me personally. read more

This gym has incredible classes and the space makes it feel luxurious! It's constantly being cleaned by the staff. I've yet to have a complaint about cleaning issues because unlike other gyms, the members truly care about the space! One con I can think of is the time the gym closes on Friday -Sunday. It's frustrating because I'd like to go later on in the day (weekends are typically busy for most people), but find the gym is closing soon so I'll have to rush through the workout. Other than that, I enjoy this space very much! read more

Yikes, talk about going downhill..you would hope this organization had a higher level of integrity with its grossly inflated membership fees. Their GMs (constant turnover) and their questionable choices reflect a genuine lack of care for simple honesty, honoring their word or caring about their clients, its rather disturbing. Even documented commitments are not honored. Sadly, it's no longer a Midtown family, today Midtown seems to prioritize greed and their ego. They don't seem to care about what they used to, the people. And yet, they keep raising membership fees as though they aren't outrageous enough. It's too bad, it was once my happy place. Midtown AC in Willowbrook is tremendously overpriced, and the staff are difficult to work with. I was a member of the club for nearly a year, but I had to move out of the region. Cancelling was a nightmare. High-end gym it may be, but the membership tactics are the same you see at LA Fitness, or any other meathead club. It took more than four months after my first attempt to cancel to membership. I had to open a dispute with American Express, fax letters and emails, all to get done what should have taken a simple phonecall. You have been warned. Now, a word about the facilities. Because this is an upscale gym with membership rates far, far beyond that of your average gym, you get a filtered effect: the only people there are people with excess income. So it's less crowded, but the patrons are a little more "entitled" and it's not uncommon for you to end up waiting for equipment despite there being few people in the gym. Folks will horde because hey, they too are paying $100+ a month for this joint. The place caters to a preppy crowd that wants to feel pampered. The bathrooms/locker rooms are faux marble and stocked with comfy furniture. And, like any hotel, they have plenty of shampoo and soap on hand (which apparently blows people's minds). To their credit: this is the nicest bathroom locker room I've been in outside of a hotel. I don't go to a gym for its locker room though, so... What disappointed me most about this gym was the fact that, despite a very high monthly cost ($118 in my case), you still had to pay for a bunch of stuff there, like core training, pilates, spin, etc.. It is frustrating to pay so much, only to arrive at the gym and stare at unused equipment that you can't touch without paying even more. I moved out of the area, but had I not, I would have cancelled here. I can't justify the cost for what you get. read more

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT JOINING THIS GYM UNLESS YOU ARE LOADED AND ALWAYS WORK OUT. I have been a member for over a year (unfortunately). The sales staff really reals you in with their pampering and kindness (free starbucks twice!) but after you sign those papers you have signed them with blood. I tried to cancel the next couple months after I joined because I rarely went and it was too $$$ EXPENSIVE. Almost ALL of my emails were avoided pleading with them to cancel because my husband was out of work. THEY DO NOT CARE. They will try to tell you that they can "pause" the account and only charge you $20 month, HOWEVER that does not count towards your "year" of signing up. It's a great looking facility, but it's deceptive. I can't tell you how many arguments I got in with my husband and even pleaded to their corporate office about canceling because it was destroying my marriage and they NEVER RESPONDED. Now, as far as the childcare room, it is only usable for YOUR child. NOT anyone else's kid. I tried bringing my nephew, and they were the rudest women ever treating the 3 year old like a leper. This is the nicest gym I've ever been to. The building itself is a little older but they update the equipment regularly, have remodeled the locker rooms, have added dedicated spinning and pilates studios over the years, etc. The locker room is marble and nice wood. It's kept immaculate. They provide you with everything you might need from towels to tampons, shaving cream to lotion, hair dryers to combs, mouthwash to a swimsuit cleaner. The staff is very friendly. Tim Marsala is the best personal trainer ever. He can count while having an in depth conversation. This is not a good place for children. Even though they have tennis courts, a basketball court, and a swimming pool, there is a minimum age for membership. read more

I've been a member of the Midtown clubs for over 2 years. This was my first time going to this particular club. It was a little overwhelming at first. Athena at the front desk noticed my hesitation after check in, and gave me a mini-tour. Anything you want at this club, they offer it. Sitting near the fire, with Wi-Fi and a latte, you got it. Sweating your butt off at a spin class and then in the steam room, go for it. Running on a treadmill, working on your tennis back hand, swimming a couple laps, to your hearts content! The Women's locker room is amazingly clean. It was packed but there was plenty of towels and hair dryers to go around. I had lunch after my Zumba class and shower, which were both amazing! Tatiana made me a delicious chicken breast, avocado, cibatta bread, pesto, olive oil, cheesey deliciousness ... She was extremely friendly and helpful. I'm definitely coming back there when I'm in town! Positives: extremely spacious, state of the art equipment and services, friendly staff, clean, ample parking, delicious cafe Negatives: If you are used to going to a smaller gym, this can place can be overwhelming at first. read more

used to love this club, it was my happy place. I was one of their biggest advocates and helped generate many clients for the club. Today, sadly, it's different, I was disappointed to find the changes the club has made have taken them away from what matters most,, the people, compassion, and actually honoring its members. It is still one of the highest fee clubs, it does NOT need to be greedy yet it has become just that. Greed is a horrible quality and message to send yet Greed was the message I walked away with. Midtown seems to have lost its focus on the person and become more like a Lifetime minded facility; more about the numbers. I was a member several years back, in evaluating a possible return to the club I discovered it's appeal is not what it used to be. This club never sent messages or left anyone feeling like the numbers mattered more, never....sadly today it does. It lacks professional integrity today. It's too bad because it simply doesn't need to operate that way. People, integrity and compassion matter, especially in todays world as we have all been through quite a bit, that is what made them stand out before, that doesn't exist today. It's sad. read more

My husband and I have been members since January 2010, since then my son and daughter have joined, and now my son-in-law, and granddaughter (Kid Town member). I find it hard to believe that anyone would complain about this club...I love their yoga classes, and they also offer a wide variety of other group classes. They have modernized and updated the equipment and facilities several times since we've been there, they have a great cafe, and the locker room area is always very clean. Midtown is so welcoming, I feel like I'm on vacation every time I walk in. We had been members at Five Seasons, and my daughter briefly belonged to LA Fitness and then Life Time...we still feel Midtown out shines all the others on so many levels. read more

For this time I had a membership, this gym was adequate in its space, availability of classes, and of equipment. I found the gym to not be as well maintained as I would have liked, there were too often dirty towels left in the washroom, and I once had an elder woman ask me to help her adjust a weight machine that was too heavy for her because there were no attendants present. The front desk staff was always present and willing to answer questions. My biggest beef comes with the business office. When I was a member, my email was inputted into the system wrong, because the woman set up my account spelled my name wrong, even though I had texted her the correct spelling (which also seems unprofessional to me, that she texted from what I am guessing is a personal number, to follow up after forgetting to get it over the phone) and it took more than a month to get a response from the office and get the matter fixed. I initially opened the account at the beginning of the summer, knowing I would be returning to school in the Fall, and they said they would put my account on hold, NOT telling me there was a fee associated with doing so. And now, almost a month later, I have called over ten times sent at least three emails, and have heard back from no one. The sweet lady at the front desk, when I called back, after again being sent to a Lauren's voicemail, told me there were definitely people in the business office, and she would make sure they would call me back. Again radio silence. TLDR: Their business office are swindlers with no respect for customers unless it's an easy task. Don't join here for the customer service. read more

I love using their showers, the shower pressure is outstanding. I loved taking a variety of group workout classes. I loved all the yoga and Pilates classes I have taken there. I have been in health clubs through out the country and Midtown here in Willowbrook is by far the best. Plenty of options including my favorite a heavy bag. After checking most of the clubs in a radius of up to 40 min drive, I went for Midtown, and have been very pleased. Pros: By far the best place to workout, no matter what your favorite form of exercise - tennis, gym, swimming, yoga or any possible cardio workout you can imagine! Has a cafe and a smoothie bar, fire place, area to relax and stretch, and state of the art dressing rooms with fresh towels, lotions, blow driers - what not. What I also think is important - it's CLEAN! Showers, pool - the only public place that you forget it's actually public... Staff has genuine smiles, which is a nice bonus. A separate note on the tennis courts - I played on the tour, and Midtown meets or exceeds the ITF standards. Good place to hit on almost any level. They do wine tasting and always seem to have something cool going on. Cons: I heard that it's not the cheapest place of all. But again, based on what you get, I personally think it's a great deal. I definitely recommend to at least stop by and check it out! read more

The only thing positive about this club is the location and the cleanliness. Otherwise get ready to spend well over $100 a month for them to not invest any of that money into the dark dungee outdated gym. I feel like you're paying this amount of money and it all goes into their dumb tennis courts but you can't even use if your member because it costs extra(not that I really want to). Their equipment sucks the workout areas are dark there's no windows no fresh air equipment is outdated and set up is awful. I'm a new member and agree with others that it is pricey. But I need a pool, and that limits the gyms I have to choose from. Very nice locker rooms, layout, staff. I've been able to get equipment when I needed it. The aquatic staff is unevenly trained - some better than others for a real workout. And popularity of the instructor is not a gauge for how much of a workout you'll get. I'm part if a small group that works with a trainer who specializes in hydro training - an excellent workout. Time is not preferred and keeps changing. Sort of ok for me, but provably not others. read more

Their Kidtown program is included with the membership and it is worth every penny. The child care staff is EXCELLENT. The members have been very friendly and welcoming, along with all of the staff. They really go out of their way to help you get going with an exercise program, which was really helpful for someone like me who has been out of the gym for a couple years. The facility is clean and well-designed, with some great amenities. I haven't attended any of the events yet, such as the wine nights, but I'm looking forward to that! I've had a wonderful experience so far at Midtown and it has really motivated me to spend more time at the gym focusing on my health. read more

Kind of a "sh*tty" thing to do to. If I wanted that type of treatment I would've paid $29.95 a month at Xsport. This gym has shady business. THEY SHUT THE DOOR ON US LITERALLY. MONEY HUNGRY BUSINESS. QUITTING MEMBERSHIP IS SO HARD. IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN THIS CLUB, THEN MAKE SURE TO RECORD EVERYTHING THEY SAY BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING. I joined the membership thinking that I can do a month to month contract. I signed up June and I wanted to quit september because I had to go back to school. The advisor, Cindy, suggested that I can put my membership on hold but I said I'm going to quit september. She told me that is fine but I should tell her again in august. So I went around first week of august with my boyfriend (as a guest) and told her I wanted to quit. She told me to come back before the 20th of august and I said okay because I didn't want my boyfriend waiting. She told me that it's just a quick paperwork. So I come back on the 19th and I go to some other advisor to tell her I want to quit. She tells me that I am under a 12 month contract so I can't quit. I was shocked because Cindy did not say anything about a 12 month contract so I told them that I wanted to see Cindy. I see Cindy and she told me that she THOUGHT I was going to put it on hold for september...which I never agreed to. (Putting it on hold takes 20 bucks per month). I told her that I never agreed to such a thing and I signed the contract because I thought she knew that Imm was quitting september and she even told me that it's a quick paperwork when I went back on august. The things she told me in the beginning and the things she told me at the end were completely different. All the manager and Cindy talks about is the contract and they say that they can't do anything about it. So I told them I wanted to see the director of the club and they said that he's not here. So I said I wanted his phone number at least and they said the business calls only go through the front desk. So at the end Cindy told me that she will get it figured out with the director and she will call me back tomorrow. So Cindy calls me back the next day to tell me that the director is not there. So the next day my dad called me to come to Midtown because the director was there. So while I was going there to meet the director in person, I guess my dad and the director got into an argument because the director looked agitated when I got there. I have no idea what the argument was, but the director was complaining to me of what my dad said. And I said that I don't really care about what my dad said. I just wanted the director to hear me out about what happened that day. While I was telling my story, the director cut me off and said that he heard my story and that hes done with this family. He looked very agitated and frustrated that his assistant literally chased us out of the room and shut the door on us. I was shocked so I told them if they leave the door shut, they are admitting that this is an act of FRAUDERY. So they eventually open the door and the director and I exchanged numbers. He promised me that he would call me back 'this friday'. Well...he never did. He called me back on labor day. And he called to tell me that I can quit but I have to pay 100 for september. And I said that I went there in person to tell him that I wanted to QUIT SEPTEMBER MEANING THAT I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR SEPTEMBER. He said it's under the contract...and he's trying to help me. But I do not understand why he can let me quit the 12 month contract, but he can't let me quit september??? I'll be happy to know and understand the answer besides "because the contract said so." This is still an ongoing issue...my family had other issues of this club ...anyway I recommend searching for other clubs..but if you still want it I warn you not to trust these people. read more

I love this club! It is a little more money than I like to spend, but I feel it is worth it since being there is such a nice experience that I actually go. I was a member of another club that only cost me $8 a month, but it was dirty, classes cost extra, you had to bring your own towel, shampoo, etc. Who needs a hassle to talk you out of working out? Here the staff is friendly and cares about your progress - or they just leave you alone if that is your thing. Highly recommended! read more

This gym is great. The people are kind st front desk, kid town, instructors and management. I read some of the negative reviews and they all seem centered around people who don't want to join a gym. If you are looking for a gym for month to month and low quality join la fitness or xsport. If you are a couple, family or individual who wants a more social club, excellent classes, tennis there is no club better. read more

The Club is well maintained and clean. However I was not happy with the proficiency of some of the instructors, particularly aqua instructors. This is a very good gym, if you 1) want a good lap pool which is neither too warm nor too cold, 2) actually intend to work out, but enjoy the company of friendly people who are generally not gym rats nor East Bank Club socialites, 3) appreciate a good basketball court (just one, though), 4) like tennis (the original strength of the company), 5) want towels and shower amenities, 6) like free classes - spin, yoga, etc. - which aren't too in your face, 7) want too have a reasonable rotation of new equipment, along with traditional gym standbys. It's clean enough and the music isn't excessively loud. Not exceptionally fancy, but a solid place and good value if you actually show up. read more

If you want amazing group fitness classes...this is the place! The zumba classes are the best of the best. Never had so much fun working out so hard!! I was a member of this club for 14 years. When I first joined, they offered a mid day membership for a reasonable price and it was totally worth it for me and a group of my friends who liked to work out at noon every day. Once Midtown bought it, the prices started to go through the roof but the services included with that membership didn't increase at all. In fact, their remodel of the club a few years back only resulted in more pay per service opportunities. Since I don't play tennis or swim, I wish that they had a reasonable membership that only encompasses group exercise and machines. I finally resigned my membership because I just felt like I was being overcharged for what I was getting. There really is no personal service offered unless you pay a lot more for a personal trainer. Good Instructors though.. I hope they rethink their fee structure and start putting the client first. read more

Enjoying the positive atmosphere at Midtown is only the beginning. The staff makes you feel like it's your home away from home. They obviously take great pride in their cleanliness. The perks that come with the membership make it a tremendous value. Free classes include, but are not limited to...Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Boot Camp, Spin. Other "freebies" include a well-maintained swimming pool. Tennis court time (seasonal)Personal televisions on all cardio equipment. Showering at the club ? Complimentary soap, shampoo, razors, shaving cream, mouthwash, etc. The (complimentary) day care is run by mature women, most of whom are Moms and Grandmas themselves. The Personal Trainers have a higher level of education and certifications than any other health club out there. Midtown also hosts many special events monthly. Wine Tastings, Healthy Cooking Classes, Equipment/ Workout demonstrations and so on. The saying of "You get what you pay for" is very true in the health club industry. The dues are a bargain, if you take advantage of even some of the amenities. read more

Midtown is great if you want to use the pool, if you have kids, if you take advantage of the many yoga, pilates, zumba and other classes, and family friendly activities. It can certainly keep you busy and provide value for money despite the high price. For me personally, I have stayed because the club is very close to home. I don't use the pool or take classes. Loud music and the smell of fried food wafting from the cafe do not create a good environment for me, personally. I am there every day using weight circuits and ellipticals, and use the showers. The shower area is very outdated-- has not been updated since before 1998 when I first joined. Definitely sub par. No plans to do anything until at least next year -- and nothing definite then. The value proposition for me personally is therefore starting to erode and I am seriously thinking of going to LA Fitness. read more

This place is pretty good... until you try and cancel. I was a member for over three years and I did enjoy it. The group fitness classes are pretty good and I loved having access to a pool! However, I like early evening/ late afternoon classes and there were little to none on the schedule so I found myself not using my membership nearly often enough to justify the (very high) cost. I've belonged to much nicer gyms that charged far less. I decided to join a group fitness studio with a schedule that fits better with mine. I called to inquire about cancelling and was told that the 20th was the last day to cancel (it was the 23rd). Not ideal, but I understand the policy. So I waited until the following month and went in to sign papers on the 20th. All seemed fine until I was charged. When I called I was told that the form was signed on the 22nd. I had no proof because I wasn't given a copy of my form. I should have asked for one before leaving. I was told I'd still have access to the club for the month since I had paid. I said that I absolutely didn't want that and asked to speak to the manager. Only after speaking very sternly and insisting that I had cancelled on the 20th NOT the 22nd multiple times did I finally get somewhere. They pulled my account info and since my last check in was on the 20th (to cancel) I would be refunded. Good thing I didn't use the gym the last 8 days I paid for it otherwise I would have been out $111 for my "discounted" young adult membership. If you love the location and want a pool go for it, but get everything in writing and save a copy for yourself. I'm left with a very bad taste in my mouth sadly after a few happy years of membership. read more
