10/2017: The owner offered to redo my hair and I am happy with Jazz'z customer service. Of particular note Ari has been lovely and I have been a repeat customer. 9/2017: I'm new to San Fran and realize the most difficult part of a new city is finding a decent hairstylist especially a hairstylist that is fluent with Black hair care. When I got to Jazz'z for my 10 am appt and waited until 10:31 for them to open I knew I should have left. Problem is my hair upkeep is very important to me which is why I see a hairstylist weekly. When I was told my hairstylist was "on the way" I should have left but again I didn't. I received a very good wash from another stylist while i waited for mine to arrive. The reasons why my rating is a 0-1: 1. I waited 1 hour b/4 getting shampooed by someone not my stylist 2. When my stylist arrived she clearly is not a wrap expert, not smooth even after the comb was dragged down on my scalp, gel was added which made my hair hard, 3. After I was dry, (my hair was hard) so much product was added that it wouldn't keep a curl. 4. The flat iron was done in such a way I think my hair is still in shock (a slow drag down the hair shaft). I dont know what I am more upset about: the 4 hours spent for a wash and wrap, the frizziness of my hair, the hardness of my hair or the $72 spent for a bulls$&t experience. read more

I hate giving one star reviews, especially to black small business but I've never had a worse experience in my life than I had with this salon.... I scheduled a wash and silk press at 10 am THE DAY BEFORE my appointment and expressed to the stylist that I needed to finish before my work shift started at 3 pm. I get to the salon at 10 to see that the shop is closed. I called the office number and someone finally answered sounding like they just woke up and said they were "on their way". ( they showed up more than an hour later and was working with me and another client that had been waiting for her). I was barely able to finish on time for work and all Malkia did was wash and straighten my hair (no styling) then charged me $140 with a straight face. I am just at a loss for the lack of professionalism and class. It's a shame because this place is close to where I live but those people with NEVER have to worry about me again. read more

Terrible experience - I went in for a hair consultation and asked for partial highlights, I had grown out my roots and just needed to add some blond highlights on the top of my head. At the consultation, Dyesha aka Ladie Dy seemed confident that she could do that so I booked an appointment. On the day of my appointment, she showed up 30 minutes late with no text or update letting me know that she would be running late. When I sat in the chair, she immediately started applying bleach to my roots, the foils were sloppy, and her sectioning was completely uneven. I interrupted her and asked why she was applying the bleach so close to my scalp and she apologized and said she was confused!! Then went in with a shadow root to touch up and darken the hair that was never supposed to be bleached in the first place. Halfway through the appointment she left me in the chair for 20-30 min to go buy more supplies while I had the foils in my hair! After she rinsed and toned my hair, I knew immediately that my hair was not good. There were chunks of harsh yellow, orange, and white pieces all over my head. I had bleach spotting on my roots and so much uneven coloration throughout. She told me that my hair was over processed and that I should come back another time for her to try again. I left the salon unhappy with my hair. A few days later, I straightened my hair and found so many parts of my hair that were messed up. I asked her if I could come back for her to fix and she set up an appointment the following week. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER GONE BACK! She used non-professional hair dye on me called "Bad B" that was most likely box hair dye. She applied an auburn brown color to darken the spots that were incorrectly bleached. I never asked for that color! My natural hair is medium brown with NO RED and she went in with reddish brown box hair dye!!!! When she toned me, I had cherry red and green streaks all over, excessive breakage, and even more harsh chunks of bleach. She didn't even acknowledge how bad it looked when she rinsed out my hair. She just said "there's a few pieces that I need to fix..." I left the salon so upset. I had NEVER experienced a more traumatizing salon visit. She took zero accountability for her actions and didn't bother to explain what she'd done to me. I'm pretty sure she used hair dye that was purchased from the beauty supply shop down the street that was not professional grade! She even prided herself on being a healthy hair enthusiast which is comical because she destroyed my hair. I went to another salon down the street and the stylist was appalled with what Ladie Dy had done to my hair. They tried to remove the red pieces with more bleach but couldn't because of the CHEAP auburn brown hair dye that was previously used. Do not go to Jazz'z hair salon for partial highlights if you care about your hair!!! Biggest mistake ever. Now I have to spend hundreds of dollars and months of regrowing/conditioning my hair back to life. She charged $200 for this disaster. I was refunded after my 2nd appointment and she apologized for the inconvenience but that was it. She's a friendly woman but sadly, I don't think she knew what she was doing. read more

I never ever relaxed my hair so I didn't know the difference between the smell of dyes vs. relaxers. I didn't realize what had happened until I washed my hair and my curls didn't snap back to normal texture. Relaxer had been snuck into my hair during my visit. I had explicitly stated I didn't want a relaxer and that I was natural. Three years later, I've mostly recovered from the damage done to my hair, but now I'm more cautious than ever about where I go, IF I go. I won't be returning to Jazz'z. read more

Calina, "Wonderful Hair Stylist" Palmer, specializing in hair weaving, natural hair care, dred locks, and hair straightening, laid my hair down like her life depended on it! My birthday was this past week so I decided it was time to have my short hair relaxed so I could start playing with different hairstyles, the only problem was that my barbershop wasn't a full-service salon and I had no clue where to go for good black hair care in a city that is less than 6.7% African American. That's when I logged onto Yelp and found Jazz'z Salon. My call to the salon was answered by Calina "Wonderful Hair Stylist" Palmer, and I explained that I had natural virgin hair that I'd been growing out for about 8 months in a faux hawk style with the goal of eventually having some kid of Miguel-like (the R&B singer) pompadour. I asked her if she could relax short virgin hair without it becoming dry, brittle and breaking off. She listened to my wordy story and answered all of my amateur questions (I originally wanted it relaxed AND colored during the same visit...) and I scheduled a same day appointment. I arrived at Jazz'z pretty late in the day so the salon was empty aside from two stylists. The space was clean and organized, the product display is well maintained (they carry a decent selection of Aveda products) and the bathrooms smell like recently used cleaning products. It was clear that i wasn't at a ghetto ratchet hair-shop that should be on Bravo's 'Tabitha's Takeover'. Calina wore my hair out, she laid my shit down like it was a deceased child. I went in with a super nappy faux hawk and left out with a 'do that would make Bruno Mars take notice. I was worried the relaxer would burn my scalp but it was rinsed out at the perfect moment. The shampooing was thorough and relaxing, the amount of time I spent under the hair dryer was reasonable (I've heard about stylist leaving clients to stew and fester underneath hot dryers while they catch up on other clients or leave to run errands) and the styling was superb. I was worried the flat irons would burn my scalp but I wouldn't have known Calina was using heat if I hadn't seen her reflection in the mirror. Since I've had a lot of parties and events to go to this past week, I 've gone back to Jazz'z twice to have Calina flat iron and style my hair. Her rates are reasonable (I won't list them here because she really needs to see you in person before she can accurately price her services) and I feel confident that i will be able to afford to see her on a regular basis. Three appointments within 7 days and I still have money in my pocket. PS: On one of my follow-up visits I was able to see how the salon is when busy and full of people and it was very professional. All of the stylist were turning out some fierce heads, I saw a lot of tight sew-in weaves and top notch styling; I even saw an Asian guy getting a nice haircut. I always feel better about a salon that service all types. I will definitely be a faithful client. read more

I dropped by this place because their website phone number was not in service. I drive by here frequently so i stopped in to see about getting a simple wash blow dry and flat iron. There were not too Buddy and was able to take me at that time. When my hair was being blow dried i noticed that the stylist was not using really high heat. I thought that was nice. My hair lasted two weeks which is really never the case. Usually my hair lasts about 3 days. It was nice to have my hair trimmed and styled. The price at the end of the service was more than double what their website says. Very disappointed in that. However i finally after two weeks washed my hair and it was straight. My normally wavy hair has no curls/waves. I rewashed it and did a really cool water rinse which usually pops my child back. Wow. No curls. I believe the shampoo was mixed with relaxer. I've heard about this but never experienced it. I'm very disappointed in this. I have been natural no relaxer or hair dye for more than 15 years. Back to the drawing board. Worst experience ever! I only came here because it was NYE and I was stuck in SF and needed my hair revamped for the evening. I gave them two stars because they gave me a same day appointment and the shampoo girl was sweet...the good stuff ends there. My "stylist" Shamada was pretty freakin rude from the moment I walked in and she looked at me like I was a mutant. After that, she made a point to insult my current weave by accusing my real stylist of putting in my closure incorrectly and insisting that I get her business card as if she was could do a much more amazing weave. The worst was yet to come though. Not only did she go outside to buy weed in the middle of "styling" my hair, but she also finished my hair without really finishing because she was "going outside to smoke". Really? And the other reviewer is correct that there is loud music, loud obnoxious people, and random dancing. The stylist next to us was practicing the dance moves from Ciara's 'Body Party' video. Real professional. I am by no means a snob, and would have looked past all the ghetto-tasticness if Shamada would have at least done a decent job on my hair. It looked awful! Feathering the hair consists of more than just flipping the ends. I could do that myself. If I pay someone $80 ($60+the $20 she assumed she deserved as a tip) then my hair should look good. My friend had to re-do it for me. Bottom line, if you like unprofessional salons and rude stylists who roll their eyes at you and buy weed during your appointment, insult your stylist and then do a worse job, by all means this is your place. Dear Talented Black Hairstylists: The market in SF is WIDE OPEN. Please come give these beauticians some much-needed competition, especially if you are from somewhere that can Do Some Hair. Customer service here is terrible. They will leave you waiting around forever, throw a fit if you are 3 minutes late, and look at you crazy when you actually ask for something (anything!) specific. They do as LITTLE as possible and charge as MUCH as possible. Quality is ALL BAD, even for something as simple as a press (this is the place where everyone walks out with the exact same hairstyle). Worst off, everyone of their clients in the chair is baldheaded. That's a problem! I can't come here again. Why does this place stay in business? Because its one of the only salons here in SF proper. So it's been a few years and in that time I've decided to go natural. San Francisco's humidity has broken my resolve for straight hair and my wallet. I won't admit that it's been a perfect conversion and every now and then I crave the silky, straight locks. So I go to Jazz'z. Unfortunately my review has changed and all due to one appointment that has f@#$ed my hair so bad that I will be dealing with the results for a while to come. Last July/Aug I ended up purchasing 2 half-off coupons for my hair that would expire by 12/31, and of course I let these coupons ride until there was only 2 weeks left in 2011. So I end up getting my hair done more times than I had in 2 yrs in those 2 weeks! During one of my appts, the shampoo girl said she wanted to "deep condition" my hair. And I agree, not thinking anything of it. She applies the conditioner and we wait. Then my head starts to burn and I believe maybe it's from tea tree oil which can tingle. But the burning becomes much worse and I think perhaps I'm allergic to it, so I ask her to wash it out. I don't think anything of this situation (for some reason, perhaps night shift crazy). My hair is styled as usual and looks great. The second visit goes normally. However, the stylists notes that something is different about my hair. She says it's not straightening or laying as it should. She thinks perhaps its the straightening irons and switches those out. She asks me if I've done anything different with my hair, used anything different in it. I say no. She finishes, but I can tell she's not satisfied and can't figure out what's different. I go home and over the next month my hair breaks and falls out. I have a freaking bald spot in the front of my head. My hair is excessively thick, so the fact that it is thinning is freaking me out. Initially, I attributed this hair damage to me deciding to get my hair done twice in 2 weeks. So I accept the blame and come to hate my hair for the next 8 months. I think it's because it was given out of context and in my brain it's an utter violation of trust to do this to someone without their express permission. So I'm left here. I don't know that my stylist knew about this. I don't know that it's this salons policy to do this without permission (like in the link). Perhaps it was an accident on the shampoo girls part, but I'm thinking probably not. Am I gonna go back and pitch a fit? Nope. This is done. I will not ever being going back to Jazz'z again. Considering how hard it is to find a decent stylist in this city, Jazz'z is ok. I'm used to a different salon experience and better stylists in LA, but this isn't LA so unfortunately subpar becomes the norm. Tonia does my hair and it took her a few times to get it the way i like it. Now, though, she does a good job. NOTE: she is good, but doesn't feel the need for speed, you know? So bring a book. There seems to be a lack of communication in the shop. Stylists come and go w/ little communication to clients. Sometimes stylists are very late. Tonia actually forgot she had an appt. with me once and never showed up. Another stylist did my hair. Tonia is the OWNER. I still go to Jazz'z to get my hair done so, I suppose, that's the bottom line of the review. read more

I came here, for the first time, about a month ago to get my hair done. I was excited to try a place in SF that could do my hair - since there are not many salons in the City that can, and I usually find myself going to the East Bay to get my hair done. I showed up a little before 11 am on a Saturday for my appointment. The store was still closed when I arrived, so I figured I would walk down the street and grab a bite to eat. When I came back, the store was finally open, but there was only one person there, and it was not the person that was scheduled to do my hair. My stylist, Calima (sp??) wasn't there yet, so I waited. And waited, and waited. Now, I've definitely had my fair share of waiting around at a hair salon to get my hair done. Usually when I've had to wait, though, it's because the stylist has double booked or is just running behind on the previous customer's hair. I have not had to wait so long for the stylist to even SHOW UP to do my hair. My stylist arrived around 12:15 or so, with no explanation or anything for why she was late. I see the other reviews on here and some people seem to have no problem waiting around for a stylist to show up. I do, and it's just plain rude, inconsiderate and poor customer service to keep a customer waiting that long with no explanation - especially when the customer is still charged the full amount for the service. I understand that there could have been a perfectly good explanation for why the stylist was late, but I was never given any explanation and based on some of the other reviews here, I am led to believe that this is a chronic problem here. The end product was okay. And normally I wouldn't wait around that long for someone to even show up, but on that day, I needed to get my hair done (I was about to fly to the East Coast)! Ladies in San Francisco. WOW! It took me countless phone calls and several days to find a hair salon in the city! I searched and searched and searched and . . . well, you get the drift. I finally found Jazz'z. I called yesterday, hoping that I could just find someone to tighten my tapered 'do up. Not really caring very much about anything but not having a nappy nape. WELL! I got what I asked for and much more. The shop is nice - in a nice area, and the stylists were all very friendly. Although I was scheduled to be with Sheree (sp), when I arrived, I was told she was not in, and for a second, I was upset, as I took a taxi to the salon from SoMa. Anyway, Bree (who had taken my reservation) said that it was OK, and that she would do my hair. Despite being a cute boo, I was a bit nervous . . . and needed a mocha from the coffee shop next door to contemplate my next move. When I got back, the owner, Tonia, called me over and I immediately felt more comfy - no offense, Ms. Bree! Took a long time, and was about $30 more expensive than I have paid in Baltimore, Florida, LA, and Chicago (in the last several months), however, Tonia did an awesome job. She was attentive, and friendly. Professional and just plain nice. So, KUDOS, and thanks from this southern gal! I'll prolly be back for a shape-up, since I have two more weeks here! read more

The owner of this salon does not know what owning a business means. She does not care about her customers and she really disappointed me. I went in there to get a weave by Brie and the style did not work with my hair so I went back in to get it fixed and the owner did it. I was still not happy because it had hair sticking out all sorts of ways. Aside from this time, Brie always had me leaving happy and lookin' hella good. If the owner knows anything about customer service she would have sympathized with me and agreed to fix it but she said I would have to spend an extra $100 on top of the $150 that I had already spent. Mind you that I frequented this salon for a good three months every 2 weeks. By the owner refusing to give me service shows me that she is a money grubbing, bad business havin' "you know what!" I cannot believe that Jazz'z would have their customers walkin' around lookin' a mess! Don't go here...they need to understand what havin' a good business means...it means keeping their customers happy and caring about what they have to say. Lady, you thought you were going to lose money? Well you just lost a lot more by being lazy and uncompromising. You suck! read more

I am so angry with my haircut. I walked by this place and saw that I missed my bus. So I decided I would get a haircut and get rid of my nasty split ends. I walked in and asked how much for a haircut and the price. It took them a few minutes to answer my question. That was fine; I was in a good mood. One girl started my haircut. She did her work slowly. (I didn't get a shampoo either) Afterward, she didn't even show my how the back looks like. I paid and left. After I got home, I noticed 2 strands in the front were longer than the rest of my hair length. Also the left side is longer than the right side. Is it that hard to get a trim?! My mom's $7 stylist could do a better job. This place costs $25 for a haircut. I would either pay $60 for a better haircut or just give the $7 chinatown hair salons a try! Best thing from this experience: I didn't have to wait for the bus-it came right after I walked out of this shop. read more

This salon is the worst, do not go here. Customer service is absolutely horrendous! I was on time & I waited approximately 3 hours for my stylist and everyone ignored me. Turns out she never even showed up to work that day. This place is so unprofessional what makes it especially worst is that its overpriced. I paid $90 for a damned root touch up! The hairstylist was a man, I don't even remember his name, he made no effort to talk to me or apologize for making me wait for so long. He washed my hair and left me dripping wet in the sink for about 5-7 minutes while I watched him smoke a cigarette outside. As a woman with natural hair I was on a quest to beauticians with experience working with natural hair. This is definitely the place. I have been to Jazz'z twice and worked with Tenera. She was absolutely wonderful! My appointment was at 10:30 and I was seen in a matter of minutes. The salon was nicely decorated and the staff was warm and welcoming. I was offered cookies! I decided that I wanted to cut and color my hair. I wanted a color that was fun and yet professional. Tenera was so helpful in explaining the process and made me feel at ease. We decided to go with a brown/ red color that reminded me of wine. She answered all of my questions regarding hair maintenance and suggested affordable products I could purchase to replicate my look at home. Overall, I was very pleased and found my go to spot to get my hair done. I have tried to find other natural beauticians in the past and they would charge an arm and a leg. For a full color and new hair cut, I paid $100 at Jazz'z. I admit I still have sticker shock when it comes to prices for hair care here and in San Francisco. But in comparison to other salons in the area that work with natural hair this is the most reasonably priced. I have nothing but positive things to say about Jazz'z. I am pleased to write this review of Jazz'z. I have been a client here for exactly ten years today and it is not just a good place for me to get my hair done, it is a conscientious, community involved business that I am proud to have in my neighborhood. The owner, La'Tonia Grice, has become a good friend over the last five years, but I was struck by her professionalism and perfectionism the first time that I walked in the shop. She was a very young woman ten years ago and it has been delightful to watch Jazz'z grow as La'Tonia grew. Every choice La'Tonia makes as a businesswoman is informed by intelligent creativity. It is not that everything in the Shop is in a different place every six weeks when I go there - rather, it is that La'Tonia is never complacent and continually tries to create a better working environment for her talented stylists and a more enjoyable experience for clients. Most of us clients are African American women and men who sometimes feel at the mercy of our hairdressers because our hair is so fragile and requires specialized care. La'Tonia and her stylists and assistants are experienced, informed and caring. That is so important for any business, but especially for a salon that specializes in styling African-American hair. I wish Jazz'z continued success because I know they earn it every day. read more

I would give Jazz'z a 1 if it weren't for the amazing hair. Makia [sp] is incredibly competent and creative with hair, she listens to what you want and works with your hairs potential and your budget. HOWEVER, this is the second time I have been made to wait for over an hour. I made my first appt for 11am, 3 days in advance and had to come back at 1pm. I still waited 30 minutes when I came back. This time I made my appt 1 week in advance.This time, my hairdresser choose the day and time. Thursday, 9am. I show up at 8:45. I wait until 10:30. It's cold. I am still calling at 11am, to no avail. I'd like to begin with a comment referring to the "unprofessional", late stylists at Jazz'z. Ladies - Marilyn Monroe was almost always late for work. Often she simply didn't show up. She could have been replaced a million times with some other hot blonde, but "they" recognized real talent. This being said... yes.... at Jazz'z ... I've often waited, (... and waited). However, I've also sat in a chair for 14 hours while 2 sweet and patient women worked on carefully combing out my dreads. I've been in countless times as Tonia, the owner, painstakingly worked on my nest - helping me to restore it and bring my confidence back. All those hours in the chair I've watched and listened to women who know most of their clients, and care about the community. Back in the day, "beauty salons" were meant to be a social outlet for women - to sit in chairs and chat with each other... to laugh and cry and ask about children and in-laws. If you have a little patience, and some heart, the ladies at Jazz'z will transform you, give you HONEST feedback, and talk to you like a real person. (I lived in NYC - i understand the Salon experience - with port wine and fabulous divas who talk about the hottest new lounge opening that Lohan was at...) Jazz'z is REAL. The stylists are TALENTED. I can't lie, I am VERY happy with my haircut. Tonya knows how to wield that stove iron and my hair looks and feels great! But I'm sorry, I find showing up to the appointment 15 minutes late and taking breaks WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF CUTTING MY HAIR to talk to random people who show up, rude and disrespectful on the customer service scale. For paying $100 for a shampoo, cut, and iron, I expect the stylist's attentiveness at the very least. I'm a pretty easy-going person, but you have to let your friends/colleagues/whoever know that when you have a customer, they need to wait, don't leave a PAYING CUSTOMER waiting! Pros: Great location - at least for me (close to work & home) Everyone in there are at the very least courteous Dyesha (my stylist) is great, professional, on time, and good at what she does It's a friendly environment, everyone gets along well and it's relaxing for me It's about the only place in SF I know to get dreads done! I Came to Jazz'z hair salon a little over a week ago I must say I was pleased. Keenan the barber, listened and cut my hair just the way I liked it. Since I've moved here from the south, it has been hard to find someone who can cut my hair the way I like it. I'm very picky when it comes to my look. You know that feeling when you finally find someone who will take care of your hair, and you want to let everyone know what a revelation it is, and you refer everyone to that person, because good stylists are so hard to find? Well, when I first came to Jazz'z, it was to have Tanera relax my niece's 3B hair. She now relaxes both of my nieces' 3B hair, presses my sister-in-law's 3A hair, and twists my 4A/3C hair. In addition to weaves for my sis-in-law and I (and I was leery of weaves before.) We love Tanera so much that she's doing our hair for sis-in-law's wedding. I've been natural for 13 years and you could not get me into a salon without kicking and screaming before, but I feel completely comfortable letting Tanera take care of my hair. The salon is itself is also really great: professional, friendly, and well-run, with just enough of the noise and camaraderie that I remember from salons when I was growing up. Really loved this place, and they did a great relaxer! But i felt that they were unprofessional in the sense that they would overbook, not confirm appointments, and often not get back to you. Ended up taking my business elsewhere. read more

I love my stylist Nicki thank you for making me beautiful. She does my daughters hair and I finally after 3 years of doing my hair at home said let me do me. Had to download yelp app just to leave this review. What a terrible experience. This place was so ghetto. I was disappointed at the he/she that answered the phone. I asked how much it would cost to wash, cut and flat iron my 12 year olds hair. It said, $55. So I asked if they were available at the moment and it said yes. I get there in 5 min, and it asks us to have a seat. We ended up waiting for and hour and 20min. Finally when it was my daughters turn, she told her to sit on the chair, so my daughter did. Then the stylist starts helping the previous client and we wait another 5 min. Finally I get irritated and say I just want her to trim her hair. I can do the rest at home since I had to do other things by a certain time. It tells my daughter to stand up. It only clips her hair about 5 times and said she's done. I was so pissed. So I payed the $15 for nothing. It was my fault, I should've walked out as soon as I walked in. Definitely not going back. I don't like when employees are ghetto and rude. The place needs to be cleaned up. It's dusty everywhere. Their products are a mess and the apple vinegar at the register was not appealing nor did it have a great scent (duh). Just disgusting. I'm very disappointed in this salon. I've waited weeks to trim my hair even though it needs it so badly because I was planning to cut it for my cousins wedding. I booked an early morning hair appointment, so I could make it to work that same morning, and my cousins dress rehearsal that afternoon. She's getting married tomorrow. My appointment was at 7:30am and the building was still closed with no one there. I was sitting outside for 20 minutes when I realized no one was going to show up. Now, I have a messy head, and I will have to rush to get it done before the dress rehearsal. I will then have to find someone to cut it and style it for the wedding. I will never call this salon again and I do not recommend them to anyone. The start to what was supposed to be an easy Friday will now be hectic. read more

I walked into Jazz'z and met Dyesha completely clueless to how weaves, corn rows, and hair extensions work. I am a white girl getting ready for Burning Man and really wanted a cool, funky, and good way to keep my hair safe and knot-free for the festival! Dyesha was the most helpfull, efficient, and skilled stylist I could have ever ended up meeting here. I walked into the salon casually to ask how I could have my hair braided with extensions, how much it would cost, and how I could I buy/find the hair to use as extensions. Dyesha gave me a a very affordable estimate of how much it would cost, and told me she would help choose the hair at a nearby shop ( I wanted long hair, with exotic colours, like gold, and eggplant purlple!). We set up an appointment for a few days later in the week. When it was time to start working on my hair she was completely patient and open to my ideas, I had the left side of my head braided in cornrows and the right side of my head in open braids/free braids. Dyesha was meticulousy attentive and divinely patient, she braided my hair extentions all the way down to my hips! The work took about 4 solid hours. I am middle aged woman who is battling a health condition which has caused me to loose my hair. It has caused me to become a shut in and to develop serious depression. I had heard about a new way of doing a hair weave even if you don't have a lot of hair to braid and sew it on to. I called and talked Tonia about having this done and I sent a link to a video that showed the process. I really appreciated Tonia's professionalism and the way she put me at ease with her chair side manor. The first time I was able to look in the mirror and see what I looked like I got very emotional. You have no idea how much of your day and life gets consumed by dealing with or thinking about what you look like. I called the salon a few weeks ago and began freaking out with the receptionist said that Calina no longer worked there. The girl at the front desk was nice enough to let me know that her number had changed, though she didn't know where she was working. I IMMEDIATELY text Calina, and as always, she got back to me right away! Calina is one of the most talented hairstylists I've ever experienced. Her prices are beyond reasonable, she listens to what you want, and she gets you in and out! My hair stays fly because of her talent. Her number one priority is making sure the natural state of your hair remains healthy. I've lived in SF for almost 7 years, and I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. I've been getting my hair professionally done for as long as I can remember. It's been short, long, natural, twisted, braided, pressed, permed, and weaved. Occasionally I get a little color. I've also lived in a few major cities around the country and so have experience with quite a few hairstylist. I have to say I really love Tonia and appreciate her skills. She is very thorough and honest. Whether it was for my wedding, job interviews, speaking engagements or just a scheduled touch up, I knew my hair was going to look perfect and stay healthy. How I look walking out of her salon is a reflection of her abilities and she gets that. She's also very professional in how she runs her business. Meaning she's not eating, gossiping, or having long conversations with other people while she's doing my hair. Just like when you have a consultation with a doctor or lawyer and that person is focused on you, same thing with her. She's focused on you as her client and makes sure you have the best experience possible. She does service multiple clients at one time but I think that's pretty standard in the industry. Plus because she usually fits me in within the week, is able to multitask and is so good at what she does, I think it's worth the extra 30 minutes or so of waiting time. read more

THE worst (flat iron/press) experience EVER. Shamauda gave me a press that didn't last 24 hours. After the appt., she rudely insisted that she be paid $100 because she was a "senior stylist," though $60 was quoted to me by the salon manager. (I'll be nice & not mention more details that occurred during the appt). I came back to see a "junior stylist" that gave me a press that lasted 2.5 weeks. :) The one star is for the "junior stylist" that made it about the client and not the stylist and socializing during an appt. I visited San Fran and my wife needed her hair done and all I could say was... WOW!!! The stylist named Calina did such an awesome job and totally pampered my wife along with being extremely friendly and funny. Wife had a great experience here. A happy wife = a happy life. Thanks Calina! read more

Tanera was amazing! I've gone to other salons for weaves but none can even compare to the job Tanera did! Her invisible weave technique is so innovative and cuts the time in the chair in half. I'd never gotten so many compliments before. She also picked out the hair for me which can be tricky she made me feel so at ease because she really knows what she's doing.
