Chopped up, uneven bangs by Master Stylist Roxanne Redmeat

Three Strikes, Three Stylists--Avoid. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is that the stylists were generally friendly and helpful when answering my questions about hair health and product recommendations. Unfortunately, the actual haircuts were nothing like I had asked for or hoped for. After three visits with three different stylists and nearly $300 spent, I never plan to go back. Visit 1 (Junior Stylist - Xero): I asked for a symmetrical bob and received a shag. Despite the obvious choppy layers, Xero actually denied it was a shag. I still paid $65 with a tip, attributing the mistake to a lack of experience. Visit 2 (Master Stylist - Carol Sheppard): I paid $100 hoping for "Master" level skill. Instead, Carol took off way too much length and left the cut completely uneven, which took many months to grow out. To make matters worse, she made me feel incredibly uncomfortable by looking me up and down the whole time. I felt judged rather than welcomed. Visit 3 (Master Stylist - Roxanne): My final attempt. I had initially asked for Bettie Bangs, but Roxanne advised against it, suggesting I let them grow out instead. Because we had specifically agreed to keep them long enough to sweep to the side, I was in shock when she chopped them way too short and unevenly (see photo). When I pointed out the mistake, she blamed it on my "communication" rather than taking professional accountability for ignoring our agreed-upon plan. Save your money. The "Master" prices here do not equate to master skills or basic customer respect. Unless you want your hair chopped up or a shag you didn't ask for, go elsewhere.

After, horrendous back layers :(

I went in for a haircut at the start of this year with a reference photo asking for curtain bangs to frame my face and keeping my length while I had shoulder-length, straight unlayered hair, and I received confirmation that the hairdresser understood, and I trusted the hairdresser's process, but left with a somehow entirely different, poorly cut mullet done with thinning shears, added lots of layers that were horribly uneven and choppy, my hair ruined and so shortened that it's still not grown back to what it was even almost a year later. The hairdresser did all of this without explaining what they were doing, and being new to the salon experience, I trusted myself in their hands due to their confidence and believed she'd be following my direction. They must've taken creative liberties for some reason. Without my saying or conveying my distress, the hairdresser said someone had paid for my haircut (unsure if this was true, but possibly from seeing the damage) and sent me on my way. I held it together until I reached my car to be polite but was so distraught, after going in wanting to trust the process and feel beautiful, feeling that I'd properly communicated what I desired in the beginning and being so confused as to how it had gone so wrong and feeling like my confidence had been struck. Other salons that I'd gone to after to try to get help said I had been "botched" by this salon. To this day I'm still emotionally recovering :( and have spent hundreds trying to cover up the insecurity with wigs, extensions, and trims to try to get back to where I was with my hair. Reaching out privately to the manager, with photos, explaining my experience they said I could get a free blowout, but the resolution felt out of touch from the depth of emotional trauma this experience caused and how I'm still paying the price for putting my faith in this hairdresser. Not naming the hairdresser as to protect them but this was such an awful experience. To this day I still don't understand what happened. All I could say is make sure you're watching your hairdresser and if you don't understand what's going on, be sure to speak up. Lots of love to my girls striving for confidence

Day after!

My experience at glama-rama was great! I booked a hair cut and color with Evan and the results were so much better than I could've imagined! Evan was very receptive to my ideas and preferences and they helped bring my dream haircut to life -- the vibes at glama-rama were also very fun and I felt totally comfortable the whole time. Great hair cutting experience and I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone!

It's really cute in here. Evan was super sweet and super talented! They gave me exactly what I asked for. We chopped off a good amount and I definitely felt comfy trusting them with my curly hair!!

short haircut by Wyatt Riot

I've had my haircut here both when I had a shorter cut, as well as long. I've received amazing service from both Wyatt Riot and Sev at different times of my hair journey. Wyatt was my first gender affirming stylist, and once I grew out my hair, I've been getting the specialized curly cut from Sev. They both are very knowledgeable not only about hair--but as well as product you can purchase in store. I really find the environment fun and welcoming, and it is definitely one I think anyone should experience too!

I am the worst at describing how I want my hair. Luckily, Sev (apologies if I misspell their name!) was able to translate my words into something intelligible for them. This alongside the fantastic conversations was a great first experience. This was my first time getting my sides shaved, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Masks were required and Wi-Fi was provided. I showed up ten minutes before my scheduled cut. There was a very comfortable couch I could sit on while I waited. I have no idea how long I sat; could've been a short or long time and I wouldn't know. I read a book on my phone and looked around at the beautiful artwork. Considering this was the middle of the afternoon, and the day before Thanksgiving, this was great. I'll be back the next time I need my hair cut.

I have thick wavy hair. I have never gotten my hair cut and the stylist not comment on how beautiful my hair is. I went to this salon to take out a little weight and give it some shape. To say the person who cut my hair at this salon butchered it is an understatement; when I texted them later they said that they didn't have the "expertise level" to cut my hair and that I should take biotin to help it grow back; no offer tho return the money- not that it would have helped.. It will be years before I get my hair back. I have attached a photo of the after and the before. This person should not be cutting hair. It's been over a month now and my hair is so butchered - (so many lengths- all short) and hard to work with I cannot even pull it back so I felt I should leave a review. In addition to destroying my hair for the foreseeable future, I had just paid $400 to have my hair colored at another salon and that money was also wasted.

I've been trying to find a place to get my hair cut for almost a year now and have finally found a place! Pros: -within walking distance from the Bart station -friendly staff -constantly asking if you want something to drink -fun/eclectic/queer friendly environment -dog friendly!!! You can bring your pups here when you have an appointment Cons -depending on who you see, there are stairs. Not sure if there are any elevators, but something to consider if you have limited mobility

Got a decent enough haircut and really adored my stylist. Vibe was good. I would probably go back but I really hate having a haircut.

Ask the Community - Glama-Rama!

What hair dye brand do they use? I want to look and see what color blonde to ask for. Thanks!

Most stylists use Alfaparf, but it may vary depending on the stylist. Some of them are independent contractors and use various color brands including Pravana, Goldwell, Pulp Riot, and Framesi. If you are looking for a specific brand, ask about it… Read more

I have fine hair and I see Ash at the Valencia St. Glamarama. She is wonderful.

I was a bit nervous about the bleaching process because I have very fine hair, but Deena was so attentive and careful.

I typically ask for layered haircut kind of similar to a butterfly haircut, and I think he delivered. There was a nice massage hairwash too. I took a photo the day after of my haircut so the styling wore off. I love how he took extra time to check every layer while cutting and styling! Bonus points for their super cute doggo in the shop. The salon hair wash + scalp massage is one of the best parts about getting your hair cut. Off to a bad start. Then she started snipping away unevenly. Scissors were clearly not sharp - I could hear those dull blades tearing through my hair. The saxophones kept getting louder. Rough dried my hair with a towel, her hands, and a blow dryer - didn't pick up a round brush once. Flathead, no volume. I told her it was uneven in lengths and layers, in addition to being much shorter than I asked for, and she said "your cut was uneven when you came in so I can't make it even or fix that." What? That is LITERALLY your job as a hair stylist. Left with dry-ass, choppy layered, uneven, shorter than asked for hair that wasn't even styled. One star only because she comped the poorly executed haircut.

From there, we did an 10 hour transformation going blonde and honestly, that appointment bonded us for life. I've never trusted anyone else since, she's basically my hairstylist and therapist hehe Her balayage is SOOOOO good. It always looks natural, grows out beautifully, and lasts forever without getting brassy. I'm pretty low-maintenance, and somehow my hair still looks put together months later because of her work. Her haircuts are also super clean, and she's actually the one who got me into curtain byayangs and I've stuck with them ever since. What I appreciate most is how much she cares about doing things the right way. When I decided to go back to my natural color, she didn't rush it or take shortcuts. She slowly transitioned me over time and kept my hair healthy through every stage. I live in Los Angeles now and will literally fly home just to see her, that's how good she is! After 11 years, she's more than just my hairstylist, she's someone I trust completely. Highly recommend!
