I grew up going here with my family. Happy to see it's still around. Such good memories of orange sherbet cones and banana splits.

Having grown up in Youngstown, OH, and having lived near New Haven, CT, I have eaten a lot of wonderful Italian Food. We didn't want to wait for a table to open up in the regular restaurant so we decided to eat at the GASTRONOMIA Italian Deli (same kitchen as the back restaurant). My wife is handicapped and some very kind ladies moved to a "high" table so we could sit at a lower table. We ordered from a young lady with the most amazing blue eyes and she brought our food when it was ready. My wife had the Muffuletta Sub and I had the Mighty Meatball Sub. My wife could only eat 1/4 of her sandwich and I could only eat 1/2 of mine. If you have ever lived in one of the two places I mentioned, you know good Italian . This was WONDERFUL Italian. I can't wait to go back there!

We really appreciated his friendliness and professionalism, not to forget his great cocktails! I split an order of their new oysters on the Half shell with my mom. The oysters were fresh and delicious! I enjoyed the champagne vinaigrette; however, a side of horseradish or cocktail sauce would be nice as well. My wife decided on their beef carpaccio as her main dish while my mom ordered a bowl of the Hungarian mushroom soup. I tried their special, a flight of wings! Three bowls of wings with different sauces for a total of 15 wings! The sauces were spectacularly good! Alabama White, barbecue, and another that I cannot remember but all very delicious! It also came with a side of their homemade ranch style dressing. Needless to say, I was not able to eat all 15 of those wings. The window looking out from the bar is exceptionally nice at sunset. Another terrific meal with the traffic and friendly staff here at Hudson & Essex! Looking forward to the next!

A Slice Above--This Tower Leans Right Into Your Heart (and Arteries)…read moreLet me tell you, the Leaning Tower of Pizza doesn't just lean... it lunges at your taste buds like a carb-loaded ninja with marinara on its hands. We rolled in hungry, and left questioning if we should update our wills to include pizza rights. The lineup: A Large Meats pizza that looked like it bench-pressed smaller pizzas for fun. A Medium Pep & Sausage with white sauce--or as I like to call it, "Garlic Oil's Greatest Hits." A Personal Pep & Sausage, because someone said "I'm not hungry" and then ate half the large. Three Subs that could double as home security devices: A Meatball Sub that came in like a wrecking ball (Miley Cyrus not included). An Original with Double Meat--they doubled the meat and tripled our joy. And the Pizza Sub, which basically said, "Why should pizza have all the fun? Put it on a bun." The service? Absolutely top-notch. Friendly, fast, and they didn't flinch when we ordered like we were feeding a small village. The food? Delicious. Cheesy. Meaty. Saucy. The Leaning Tower of Pizza isn't just a name--it's a culinary landmark that should probably have its own zip code. Would eat again. Would unbutton pants in advance. Would tell others, just like I'm telling you now. Grazie, Tower. You leaned... and we fell.

They provide customized menus as a special touch. As there are three selections on four on the courses, the dishes do not appear to be as customized for those with dietary issues. Jamie was our primary server providing a friendly and professional service. For my order, Three of us started with the Crostini while my wife had the Pave. I really liked the flavors of the Crostini, scrumptious! I had a bite of my wife's Pave and thought the texture and tastes superb! Preparing for the second and further courses was my a put off! We were asked to keep our utensils for the future courses! Nothing like dirty silverware sitting on the table dirtying up the area! At this price point, used silverware should be taken and replaced with new! That is the reason for my 4 of 5 stars. We experienced the same during our first visit two years ago and had hope it was resolved after mentioning to staff. That said, it was the only put off of our experience. For the second course my sister and I decided on the Scallop Arancini while my wife and mom went for the Zuppa Toscano. Again, the Scallop Arancini was amazing and scrumptious! The flavors were terrific! I tried a few spoonfuls of the Zuppa Toscano and thought it missing seasoning. The third found 3 of us ordering the Salmon Oscar while my wife ordered the Grilled Cheese. The salmon was rare, which I particularly like but the crab was cold. My preference would have been warm war with a bit of the béarnaise on top. My wife's Grilled Cheese was very tasty with the preserves but looked lonely sitting on the plate. For the last course three of us decided on the Pumpkin Crepe and my wife the Apple Spice Cake. I thought the Pumpkin Crepe to be a lovey presentation and very tasty and my wife enjoyed the spice cake. All in all a lovely experience overall! Thank you!

The prohibition dinner is a 9 course meal served in an underground cavern that was used for aging beer, and likely more shady activities during Prohibition. The cavern has been updated into a dining room and bar. It does run a little chilly, so be sure to dress appropriately. It is also damp and you have to take an elevator down. Factor these into your decision. Let me also say, this is not a cheap activity, and not for picky eaters. They are very pleasant and accommodating of dietary restrictions, but the was a wide variety of flavors and textures that you need to be willing to try. You pay in advance for this activity . We were met in the little reception area by the servers, and taken down to the cave for a tour and to get settled. We did not purchase the wine pairing, but were offered wine by the glass as an add on, and chose from the pairing list, as it was easy and available. my friend and I both enjoyed a glass of Rose. Once we were seated and settled, we saw 2 other parties come in and were seated, back to front, in the cavern. there are 3 seatings, and they stagger your arrival. First up was the bread service, including a butter candle that melts down a lava rock onto your bread. Very fun, and the bread was wonderful. The fry bread was my favorite. I think the menu is seasonal, so I won't share too many details as it will likely be different if you go .The next course was a savory flan in an eggshell, which was really good, and had a bunch of crispy accompaniments. We also had a smoked salmon course, and a veggie fritter that I would order as an entree, it was so good! The main was duck, and I love duck. Finally, we had a really fun dessert that included white chocolate mousse, apple cotton candy, apple cake, and a streusel bit. I loved it. The portions are on the smaller size, but don't worry, we were very full at the end! The servers were so attentive and all very well versed in the menu. they do a great job pacing service per party and making you feel welcome. This is, to me, a luxury activity, and my party really considered it worth our money, and really enjoyed our experience.
