DO NOT CONTRACT WITH AK SEPTIC TO INSTALL YOUR SEPTIC SYSTEM…read more Our experience with AK Septic is an ongoing nightmare. I signed a contract on March 6th, 2026. Today is July 5th. My wife and I were left with a mess that has cost us thousands more and this ordeal is not over yet. AK Septic's heavy excavator on tracks was too big for the job and tore up landscaping getting around our yard. Although cable and power lines had been located and marked, our Comcast cable was ripped in two twice; and since it was a trunk line, a specialty crew was required, leaving us without Internet that my wife needs for her business. AK Septic apparently had other jobs that took precedence over ours. They did most of the work for us in the evening and in the dark. We could never be certain when they would arrive. I happened to look down in the trench where pipe leading into the new septic tank had just been installed. It looked to me that it angled uphill, and when I set a level on it, that was the case. Had I not caught it, sewage would be backing up into our home. For tools, they had a pair of plyers. I provided proper wrenches, lubricants and other tools for making connections and servicing the excavator. While trenching one evening in low light, the excavator caught the conduit containing all the wiring leading from our two solar trackers to the invertors at our house. The conduit broke open, exposing the wiring and stretching it; one of the trackers went offline. It was necessary for the solar company to pull new wiring for both trackers because the wire and casing was compromised. To save a bit of the solar company's labor costs, I extended the trench to expose more of conduit myself. I discovered that the solar company had laid red caution tape in the original trench about a foot above the conduit, which apparently AK Septic didn't see because it was nearly dark out. The cost of repairs was over $6,000, which I had to pay upon completion of the work. Unfortunately I paid the remaining balance on the AK's contract before the extent of the damage was known. I have not been able to reach AK Septic since. I had to get a Kubota tractor to backfill the trench. I moved piles of dirt, rocks and debris to level the ground over more than just the entirety of the drain field. I 'celebrated' my 76th birthday raking rocks and hauling them off. We will have to hire a crew to further remediate the rough, rocky ground. I have left 7 or 8 messages with AK Septic, in the hopes of having a reasonable conversation on damages incurred to the tracker wiring. Supposedly AK Septic is bonded and insured. Neither Shawn Kneip (owner) nor his wife have shown the courtesy to return my calls. Our family's well-being has been negatively impacted by this debacle - our lives and summer plans disrupted. I am concerned about the system's integrity and longevity given the haphazard manner in which the work was performed.

Passable technicians for pumping septic tanks, but not good business people They pumped my septic…read moretank, and when it became clear that I needed at least a new drain field, they gave me a quote for the replacement of the drain field and septic tank. I paid half in advance. Then they went into 4-5 months of stall tactics. They needed my previous permit because they couldn't find it in the county records for my address (they knew where it was because it was in their hands at one point), but they never asked me for it. They waited until I asked them what the holdup was. Weeks pass. They told me that they would be out to start digging on October 28th of 2024. They didn't show up and didn't tell me why until I asked two weeks later. They said, that the address on the permit was wrong (it was) and they would have to make an amendment. I filled out the form for the correction and signed it. Weeks pass. I asked why nothing was happening and they told me that The county claimed that I had a 5-bedroom house and that would affect the size of the drainfield and septic tank. They never showed me any proof for this. During this time, they pumped my septic tank 2 additional times to prevent it from backing up. They came when I requested the pumping, and they did not charge me. By sometime in March of 2025 I contacted Richarson's Excavating. They handled the permit with no problems without even asking for a copy of the previous permit. They asked ME if I wanted a septic tank/drain field for a 2-bedroom house or a 3-bedroom house (I said 3). They did the work in about 4 working days in June of 2025. Never once did A & K ever contact me about the 50% of the original quote that they took. So far, these are all facts. Now comes my guesses. They got behind on their bills and spent my 50% payment to fix their finances. I believe that they would have liked to pump a lot of septics and actually do the work like they promised, but they never got enough control of their finances to make that happen. So, they threw me under the bus, and just started to lie to me until I got tired of listening to them.

After several years of being loyal customers and using this family owned company for virtually…read moreevery outdoor project, we had an extremely poor experience with our most recent 50yd mulch delivery. This debacle has been shocking and very, very demoralizing. If you use this company, be aware that they *may* deliver an entirely different product, charge you for the 30% higher cost per yard than what you ordered, and also charge for the $150 delivery of the wrong thing, and then blame you for not knowing the mulch was wrong BEFORE it came out of the truck. Be also aware that you'll encounter multiple employees who don't know what the company policy is on incorrect deliveries, and will attempt to blame customers for not being able to predict the myriad ways a very straightforward project could cost $1200 more than expected. Yikes!
