I just had an amazing experience at the JCPenney store in Mokena, IL. I had photos taken by an photographer there. I wanted photos of my mom and I as well as couples photos of my husband and I . The photographer Rachel was very thorough by explaining packages and pricing options and also making me aware of any promotions and offers that are currently available. I was pleased with the photos and the options she offered in addition to receptiveness to some of my ideas that I wanted to capture in some of the photos. I like Penney's and with the continuing demise of these old-fashioned broad-based department stores, Penney's looks better all the time. This Penney's is at the Orland Square Mall in Orland Park. The store offers all the usual merchandise at attractive prices. It is not the cheapest but it makes up for it by having a wide selection of products. At the mall we lost our Carson's and Sear's, and the midline Macy's replaced the classy Marshall Fields but at least we have some department store choices - the Penney's and the newish also-classy Von Maur's. Still and all, this Penney's remains a good alternative when you are shopping to outfit a house. Give it a try. read more

I don't want to tell you about my secret. But I will. Let's start with a story, shall we? Back when my 11 year old was my first and only, I spent a RIDICULOUS amount of money at Picture People. R.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s., I tell you. And I was happy with the service/quality, for the most part. That was 2006-2007 Courtney. Let's pour one out in loving memory of the time when I had disposable cash in spades, one kid, and much less responsibility overall (& less gray hair too, but I digress). Oh, hai. 2017 Courtney here. Mom of FIVE. Preschooler (my youngest at age four) was sick for school pictures, so enter the JCP Portrait Studio. Now, listen. I'm a realist. My four year old hates new things, hates chaotic environments, and basically was NOT at all sold on the idea of professional photographs in general. So I knew right away...this would be an uphill battle. When we arrived and checked in, we met the photographer (Britt). Okay, now you know...that's my secret. Britt. She's f*cking amazing. I basically told her that the four year old is a tough sell, hates all new situations, and I had very, very, VERY limited hope. Well, B worked her magic and--I kid you not--the preschooler wants to go back again and again and again. And again. The pictures were amazing. Britt won my littlest over immediately and it shows on basically every photo. I was hoping for one semi-grimaced photograph to commemorate the preschool year. I received (and subsequently ordered) gobs of captures of super smiling, delighted daughter. Like...with a REAL smile. Mind. Officially. Blown. But seriously, you guys...Britt. She's the one you want, especially if your kid is a tough sell. Two pro tips before I go: 1. The studio is located on the lower level of JCP by the salon. We literally had to ask someone because it's rather hidden. 2. Check Groupon for amazing photo packages! What. A. Steal. So now you know: you want photographs from JCP with Britt. You're welcome. After explaining what I was going for, she assured me not to worry; she would help me out and that she did. She listened and heard everything I asked her about. She provided me with recommendations, allowed me to choose what I thought would be best and tested the product. Not only was she knowledgeable but she was also warm and welcoming. After cleaning my face, she told me everything she was going to put on it; with how and why. She wrote down all the products I requested with the prices. They have great deals and more fashionable clothing than other JCP locations. The type of clothing ordered from suppliers for chain stores like JCP varies based on the population in that area. As I have complained before about handicap accessibility I must say that this particular JCP does a better job than other retailers with regards to aisle width. That's not to say that there isn't room for opportunity in some areas that are a tight squeeze. That isn't what I'm complaining about at this location. No. I don't care as much about the aisle width with the great values that can't be beat at JCP. The bigger issue is that no matter how many times I have shopped at this location throughout my lifetime I have found that the temperature is always a bit too hot and humid. Climate is an important factor in the shopping environment for any customer. The more comfortable they are the more likely they are to stay longer and shop more. Go to this JCP for their great deals but remember to dress accordingly no matter the time of the year! I suggest layering! read more

This review is actually for the portrait studio on the lower level of JCP. I've been using JCP photo for about 5 years now. I have tried Sears and Portrait Innovations and only JCP in Orland has consistently taken great shots of our kids. One of the reasons I like this location so much is that it is NOT a revolving door of photographers. Melinda and Alannah are awesome and have been with us since we began coming. They know us to the point that we've gotten hugs when we come in. And we request them because they are so good at capturing our kids on camera! I also like that it's affordable. I use coupons and Groupons, and I don't buy every single picture of my kids - my DH and I limit ourselves to about 4 great shots per visit. If you are the kind of person who needs every picture, loves the enhancements, and orders enough for every family member to have a photo...it will add up. But I don't think I've ever spent more than $50 there. Usually more in the $30 range. I will say that very often, the place is crazy busy. I've discovered that generally the best time to book your session is during the last time slot of the day if you can (and if your kid won't be cranky by then). I think because they're not feeling the rush to serve the next person behind you, you get a little bit more time in your session. I will never purchase a big ticket item from J C Penny again. I purchased a mattress and box spring $1800 price tag and 20/20 hindsight could have gotten it much cheaper from manufacturer - (Sealy hybrid I comfort). Due to COVID I presume it took multiple phone calls and three months to receive. I should have just canceled the order. So it turns out the sales person didn't set up removal of old mattress and I had to figure out a way to do so. Thats one of many things that pissed me off. I received the mattress set on a Saturday night 8pm by two clowns. That's another Yelp I will do next. I called 12/15/2020 to report defect and was told that after 48hrs it was a fee. Hmm? Ok how you take something off the bill? We can give you a JC Penney's gift card but that will void the warranty. Hmmm? How about you just come get the box spring and credit my account. The customer service agent whose was Keontaye was very professional, courteous, and helpful. After everything I went through with the late delivery she decided to wave fees. Thank you very much. As of this day I'm still waiting for pickup of box spring. I'm so sick of poor service being solely blamed on COVID and then expecting the customer to eat it. read more

This JCPenny is located in the basement of the mall. I think it has two floors but we visited the basement level. Good centralized area with plenty of parking. When we visited the store was dead and there were many workers. Everyone asked how we were doing. Clearly part of their job description but my golly it was 6 people by the time we were out of there. Reason for the 3 star rating is that the prices are overall okay but a little high on the towels we purchased. The basement level of the store has some construction going on and the floors are ripped up. We will visit this location again for home goods products. read more

JCPenney portraits... where do I begin? I booked a 10am appointment. A day before I was called and asked to come 10-15 minutes early. They also said the mall will NOT be open yet and to call them and they will open the doors for me. I came early just as stated and called. NO ANSWER. Keep in mind I have a 20 month old and a NEWBORN sitting in the car for 15 minutes. I called over and over and over again. I know they simply ignored the call. Finally the mall opened and when I asked why!? they told me that "no one should have told you to come early. Our phones don't turn on until 10" what a load of crap. On top of it all the place has random props and crap everywhere. No safe place to put your belongings or stroller. The "photographers" if that's what you want to call them clearly doesn't like their job. Thank god it was only a $30 dollar Groupon. I will never go back to that hell hole. read more

JCPenny Photo Studio in Orland Park, Illinois I have been going to JCPenny Photo Studio in Orland Park for 12 years and today was the worst experience ever. I understand weekends are busy but why would you overbook..because that is what looked like happened. I arrived for my 11:15 appointment and at least 6 families where there (not including the families getting their photo shoots in the two rooms). My shoot started on time, surprisingly, however she got upset when I told her I wanted a different floor for the photo background, which I ignored cause I am a paying customer and I am the one buying this photos. Then the 20 photos she took, only three were "ok" not great and when she would put her camera down is when my three year old daughter would finally have a cute face yet she just did "click" wait "click" wait.... half if not more of the 16 photos they showed me had her one eye closed and she was not good at getting more natural smiles. Again, I have been coming here 12 years because I have not had a experience like this. I felt rushed, rude to, and yes they offered to take new photos on a different day but as a parent of three you would understand its not that easy to just set up a different day. Oh and no one was there to flip through photos and guide me in my selection (like with enhancements, showing me cute things making me want to buy more- you know a SALES person). I have been here on a Saturday before and never experienced like this. AND so then my photo shoot was done by 11:35 and I didn't get to view my photos till 12:20ish and wasn't out of their till 12:45, which they were busy and wouldn't have been bad if I had more amazing photos to look at but literally 3! read more

Went to this JC Penny photo studio for business head shots. I went on a weekday night a few weeks before Christmas. So, as you can imagine, they were very busy with family and children photos. There were 3 photographers there and they do a great job! What I liked about this place was all three worked together to make sure I had the best head shots. One took the pictures and another one was walking me through the photos at a computer station nearby that lets you pick which one you liked the most. There was a photographer next to me who was busy with his own assignment, but still advised the photographer who was assisting me on the computer station to make some changes (scale or "zoom" in). The end product looked even better than before. These guys are professional and helpful, even during the most stressful times (as you can imagine, it gets a bit hectic when you have crying children and large families altogether trying to get the best shot). I am actually writing this review for the Sephora Store within the Orland JC Penney store. There are actually two Sephora stores in Orland Square Mall-- one in JC Penney, and one stand-alone store in the center of the mall. Today, I purchased a Sephora-brand lipstick at the stand-alone store. When I got to my car 5 minutes later, I realized that somebody had stuck her fingers in the lipstick and cracked it off at the base of the tube. I should mention that Sephora does not seal their lipstick tubes at all-- no plastic on the tube, no sticker on the box to keep people from tampering with the product. I decided to go to the other Sephora store (in JCPenney) because I was already in my car, and the JC Penney Sephora was closer to where I was parked. All I wanted was to exchange the damaged lipstick for a new one. I had a receipt that had literally been printed 10 minutes earlier at the other stand-alone store. It's not like I took the lipstick home, used it, and then tried to return it damaged. When I got to the register, I was told that the Sephora in JC Penney will not accept returns or exchanges from the other store. Even though the sign says "Sephora," they carry the same products, offer the same sales, and even have the same posters on the wall-- the stores look identical...but apparently, they are different stores--who knew? I was told that I would have to walk back over to the stand-alone store to exchange the damaged lipstick. Here's the best part-- I have a broken foot and am currently walking around in a cast. When I pointed out that I would have to walk across the mall to get to the other store, the salesperson just said, "Sorry, we can't take it back." So in short, the JC Penney Sephora lost a customer over a $12 lipstick. It's ridiculous, but I refuse to patronize a store that won't stand behind its product. read more

My review is an online order. I stopped buying things from this company a few years ago due to poor service. I decided to try again. Big mistake. I ordered several items for Christmas gifts, and none will arrive for Christmas. 4 items say they have shipped. They have created a tag but never gave the package to UPS - 4 days after they say on the website it was shipped. 2 items are backordered and every day they say they will ship the next day. Never does. 3 The third items says will ship as per the date below there is no date. Then it says shipped from factor and will require 1-2 weeks to schedule a delivery. Of course that info was not on the website with the product. Getting a refund from Penny's is a nightmare. You can do it but must call corporate and scream at them loudly. Pitiful place to do business. Zero customer service. I am completely disgusted. Save your money and your time. SMF read more

A few years ago I was shopping at this JCPenney location with my mom. As we were walking out of the store security guards ran up behind me, grabbed my bags, and searched them without a word. They apparently thought I was shop lifting, which by looking at my bags and receipts I obviously wasn't. Ever since then this store has left a bad taste in my mouth and I refuse to shop there. I have been to JCPenny's furniture department twice in the last two weeks. The first visit, we were greeted by an older gentlemen named Joe. Joe didn't mess around. He explained right off the bat that the listed price for the bedroom set we were looking at was misleading and that of the "Five Piece Set" they were advertising, three pieces were needed to complete the bed. Then, he told us that if we came back the following weekend, we could receive the "Friends and Family" discount of 10% being offered. He gave us his card, including his schedule hours and we were all set to return the next weekend. Our second experience was our return the next weekend. Joe had not yet arrived for the day so we were greeted by another older gentleman. However, he was a bit rougher around the edges and seemed argumentative. While walking through the showroom, we spotted a sectional sofa we really liked. The fabric, size and shape were exactly what we were looking for. However, we could not find the price. When he came to ask if we needed help, I asked if he could tell us the price. He looked at me like I was nuts and said "well, its right here in front of you" Yeah, the guy took the price sheet from another living room grouping... one that was NOT a sectional. While they were apart of the same series, there was no way for us to know that and there was no use in trying to make me feel stupid. Not a good sales technique buddy. We then had a question about the fabric. While we liked the material, we wanted a different color. He again tells us the fabric swatches are "right there" only they weren't. He had to spent 10 minutes tracking them down. Never apologized for the assumption. When looking in the book, we couldn't find the same fabric we were actually sitting on, let alone another color. I asked him about it and he said "well, this the display" Rolling my eyes, I said "so it doesn't exist in the swatch book because you have it in display?" He seriously thought this question was dumb and treated me as such. I explained we were looking for something darker, like brown or charcoal. He says "well, I have a similar sofa around the corner that is lighter" I say "but we are looking for darker." He says "that's what I am saying" Thinking perhaps he misspoke but was too old to admit it, we get over there to find -- yes, a LIGHTER color sofa. Urgh. We left the store for a bit and returned to find Joe, our preferred sales associate. He stumbled a little through the process but was a significant upgrade from his geezer coworker. He executed the order for the bedroom set and we were on our way shortly. By the way - is there an age requirement to sell furniture in JCPenny. Not a single person there was under the age of 55. They were mostly men and every single one of them had old man trousers on. It was like walking into a time warp. read more

The Orland Park store has really gone downhill! 1st of all you walk in & there's a bad smell! It kind of dissapears after awhile but it's still not pleasant. The clothing areas aren't as nice as they used to be either; seem messy & unorganized. I used to love JCP but not any more! Shopping in the men's dept. we were assisted by a clerk who kept making insulting "jokes/remarks" to my husband. When it was time to check out, we were waiting behind other customers in front of the registers for our turn. (They were all waited on.) All of a sudden, the clerk rudely announced that there was a specific spot to line up for checkout (sign was not visible from our vantage point) and we were now behind 4 customers that weren't even there when we got to the checkout line! Even the customers knew we were there first & offered to let us go ahead. I was so furious....what a crappy way to treat customers! I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

We tried to return some shoes to JCPenney that were bought over the holidays and my daughter was unable to wear. I lost the receipt as we travel throughout the holidays and were very ill, which is why she was unable to wear any of the things we bought. JC Penny said that they cannot return the shoes because they were made by Carter's and that is a national brand. However the shoes I was trying to return clearly had JCPenney tags, had all tags attached, and were in perfect condition. The managers had my mother-in-law and myself drive around to many different stores to no avail. So we did not get our shoes returned, and were never able to use them. We spent time, money, gas, and energy trying to get the management teams to honor their own policy and to offer good customer service. If they're not going to return things without a receipt I don't feel like they should put that on the back of the receipt. The back of all receipts say, you can return items without a receipt within 45 days. They do not honor that. Instead they should say, "We treat people subjectively because we can't speak to you over the phone about returns. We have to see you in person to determine whether we're going to honor your exchange or return." To me, that seems very discriminatory and a dangerous practice that land them in a lot of legal trouble. I had two different managers say that to me over the phone and they stated that treating returns on a case by case basis is policy. Unbelievable! read more

I shop here very often!!! Thanks for not having blasting music, the aisles are NOT over crowded and the shelves are plentiful. The people are friendly and are easy to find for help. I think they could work on keeping the dressing rooms clear and floors dusted. The value of the merchandise keeps me returning!! This review is for JC Penny Salon. I have never been to this salon and had to get hair done last minute. I was SUPER HAPPY about how it turned out! The store was very accommodating and professional. When we got there we showed them pictures on Pintrest and our hair was done exactly how we wanted it. Brittany and Megan we both very experienced hair dressers. I always hit JCP at the mall first. They have great selection, with all great quality items from clothing for me, the kids and my husband, to kitchen and bath everything. I also always check the sunday paper for the sales flyers, and i get great coupons in the mail, after signing up with a jcpennys credit card. customer appreciation / friends and family shopping coupons are awesome, huge savers. Sales staff is always very helpful. Mrs. Marlene in the mens department / mens dress shirts is my favorite!!!!
