I tried to purchase a pair of shoes. There wasn't a price on the shoes, but there was an item number sticker. I didn't see a box on the shelves. I waited in line, got to the register (3 different sales registers open, all 3 busy) and the cashier couldn't figure out the price. The shoes didn't scan. He had me walk 1/2 mile to the back of the store to get the only other pair while the line of people waited. That pair also had no box/no price, and hetried to scan those, same outcome. I brought a box for a similar pair, same brand, that had a price marked. He asked another cashier and neither of them could figure out what to do. The long line of customers behind me was getting anxious. I said OK, forget it, and left the store without purchasing anything. Train your cashiers on what to do in this scenario! read more

This was my first visit to the store after the remodeling, it seemed bigger with more room to walk around the aisles and shop. The store was clean, stocked and neat it made for a nice shopping experience. The boys department was surprisingly bigger than most stores my intention was to go in and buy 4th of july t-shirts. Instead I found printed screen t-shirts with dinosaurs, mickey mouse, scooby-doo, ect... They have casual coordinating shorts, shirts and pants. Their prices were reasonable they are having 50% off sale. It was all a bargain. I did find the 4th of july t-shirts I was looking 4 at $5 each. Ill have to come here a little more often. read more

I've been shopping online and picking up my items at the store. It's a trial & error process getting clothes to fit but I'm still not real comfortable walking around in the store. But I wanted to give a shout out to a young lady working at Customer Service in the Men's Dept. Yasmine (hope I got her name right), is friendly, efficient & courteous. I can see why Penney's stock has tanked and they are closing stores-- there is nothing like 'customer service' at this location. Aisles are jammed with additional clothes racks, bathrooms are horrid, too few workers man the cash registers, and it is hard to find specific sizes on the shelves because nothing is in order. Cheap prices (very often on cheap merchandise) is not enough to make me shop here again. JC (a legend in my own mind). read more

I went in yesterday before the grand opening sale. The staff was wonderful very professional and nice . They were very busy but still kept a smile on their face . It's a mini Sephora so it doesn't have everything, but it does have a nice selection of Fenty and Kat Von D . It's nice to be able to have a mini Sephora here though . Make sure to check your points even though they had my beauty insider card my points were not applied until I called Sephora to ask them about that . read more

April 2012: For their portrait studio: OVER BOOKED! They have one studio and I had a 920am appointment. I arrived 15 mins early only to have to wait 25 mins after my appointment time slot to actually get pictures taken. Pushy patrons arrived after we did and then butted their way to the front to check in before myself; the clerk didn't seem to care. Rude! We finally get called to take our pictures at 9:45am and we were done 10 mins later. They took a total of maybe 15 pictures, now granted we were a small group (2 people) but these were birthday pictures and I expected a decent amount of pictures make some choices on. Two of the pictures were of our shirts - our shirts!!!! They used it as a backgroud...I was really, really disappointed with that little trick. So pictures are done now, we go back to waiting so we can see our pictures. And we waited, and waited - they only have 2 computers to show your pictures on. Finally the two computers were freed up, the lady who took pictures after me grabbed a computer and loaded her pictures up of her family. After I glanced at my watch and noticed we had been waiting to see our pictures for 30 mins now, I followed suit. That works really well to bring the employees over quickly. As they quickly scrambled to get pictures put into selling format, the lady next to me asked why the huge wait. I chimed in with the same question; at this point my son was super fiesty and aggravated. The employee informed us it's due to the Holiday Season. We then questioned her why they spaced their appointments out in 20 minute blocks as it was overtly clear they haven't the capacity for everyone - it's due to online appointment making, we were told. The experience here was simply painstakingly long, 2 hours from start to finish. If my group was large, I could excuse it - but we were only 2 people! This was not worth my drive and I'll never return here for pictures. On the plus side, I didn't spend a dime in the store - I only used my Groupon and purchased nothing else. The main reason I bought nothing was that they took so few pictures to choose from, and the horribly long wait - I simply couldn't wait to get out of there! read more

Very disappointed with this store due to a sign that was very misleading in the Alfred Dunner area-per the sign above the pants was " buy 1 at full price and get the other item for 50% off) pointed this out to sales staff & was informed for selective items but sales staff was unable to show where these " selective items " were. Sure felt we were scam & would not honor what was above (sign) the pant rack. It will be a very long time before we return to purchase clothing for our mother at JCP. Will purchase this brand at Rosa's in Pismo Beach and pay more but at least there we wouldn't feel like we were scam by JCP. read more

I visited store #1871 on Feb 10, 2023. Purchased a men's wedding band that was suppose to arrive to the store on Feb. 20, 2023. An employee called me on March 9,2023 to let me know my band was in, come to find out that it could NOT be sized. The employee Daisy who rang me up the first (unexperienced) said that we could resized to the size i needed. On March 9 I went back into the store to get my money back, and order ANOTHER band the right size (8 1\2). They messed up AGAIN and othered a band size (8) this was on March 14, 2023. One hour later headed back into store got a new refund and ordered a new band the CORRECT size! Every time WE went in was a new refund and a new band order was placed. The night of March 14, 2023 we ended up at the store asking the employee to speak to a MANAGER because by this time we are both over it and irritated. The employee (0783) said the manager on shift was BUSY in the back. We waited and the same employee (0783) ordered another band still no manager in sight. Still waiting to get my band back, no update at the moment. I think you guys need better customer service, and proper train employees. I still can NOT believed no manager came out and talk to us. I was really disappointed in our JC Penney store. I Waited over an hour in the line. Only two employees working the register, I get places are short handed. My issue is I don't think their employees have good customer service at all. One lady was waiting in line because they didn't remove her sensor off an item. She decided to ask the employee at jewelry since she had no customers she told the lady she couldn't help her and she needed to wait in line. When it was my turn I had come in for a price adjustment the cashier said we don't do price adjustments. I had explained online it says you can within 7 days. She asked her co worker he said sorry we don't do that. I stepped outside pulled up the website and went back in to show them. They called the manager over she said they do them. So the employee ended up doing it for me however she still didn't do the correct amount. I felt they were understaff, employees did not know their policy's and didn't care to ask management If they didn't know. This will be a last resort for somewhere I shop. read more

Went jcpenneys today to get some fall sweaters. Store was completely thrashed. Clothes laying on floor. Went to the dressing room which was about as bad. I was excited about having a Sephora inside JCP in our town but every time I have gone in there, I NEVER GET ACKNOWLEDGED! I never got helped or asked if I needed help. I refuse to spend my money at this location due to the shitty service I get every time I've gone. Pretty irritated about my experience at jcpennys today. I know they dont care because they'll go out of business soon regardless of another bad yelp review. But maybe their corporate offices will get bored and read yelp reviews if they ever wonder why they have to file chapter 11. All i have to say is why when I have a receipt and both my items have the tags on them do i have to wait "2-6" business days for my money to be refunded to me when i PAID WITH A DEBIT CARD? You took the money out right away, debit is the same as cash! Now i know jcpenny isnt the only store with these bs policy now the part that was so irritating is the pissy ass little attitude of the clerk and trying to tell me its not up to them when the money gets put back in my account. I love the new JCPenney! Great prices and the store layout is so much simpler and clean. Not tons of clutter like Kohls. Fewer choices but almost every piece I was ready to snag off the rack! I really love that they have scaled back the amount of stuff on the floor. It just makes shopping so much more enjoyable. I am only writing this review for the Sephora inside of Jc penny in Santa Maria. For one employee in particular and for the life of me I can't remember her name but she's has gorgeous black hair with a blue ombré and let me tell you i will only purchase items if she's working! She remembers me and makes a point to say hello everytime I come in. She is SUPER knowledgeable about both makeup and skin care products and I have full confidence if you are looking for a particular item and aren't too familiar with brands and what's out there seek her out! She will give you the best suggestions and pros and cons of products and at least point you in a good direction. I've sent several of my friends here that are new to skincare (without me being there) and they all have said that she was very helpful! They can get a little busy because there's only two at the most 3 girls I've seen on the floor at one time so I can see why people don't get the attention they deserve but that's no fault of the employees. If you go there at the right time and need help you can find the products your looking for and even get some samples of products! ( getting samples isn't like pulling teeth like the one in slo ). Overall I wish they carried a bigger variety of hair and skincare products but I will continue to go here for the girl with the blue hair and her kindness and knowledge of products. I'm going to make a point to get her name next time! If you had a bad experience before try to go when she's working!!! read more

I like the Quality of JC Penny's products my big complaint is I bought 2 sets of Converse one set they left the security tag on it. The alarm never went off I live 45 minutes away to go back to take them off. People do make mistakes but it does irk me.... read more

I've shopped in Sephora stores all over the United States and the mini store in the Santa Maria JC Penney store is by far the worst one I've seen. I visited not too long after their grand opening and it was a mess, but I thought maybe they were just working out the kinks. I returned tonight for my 2nd visit and nothing has changed. There was only one girl working and she was doing a make-over on someone. That was not fair to the person getting the make-over or to the other customers waiting to make purchases. The sales associate was doing her best, but they really needed at least 2 sales associates. Lord knows there was enough to do. The sample areas were not just messy, they were dirty. The area is not sanitary. Lastly, the displays were not organized so that the products matched with the prices that were on display and many of the price tags were missing. I've been in other mini Sephora stores and they have all been neat and clean. Why would the Santa Maria store be any different? Why can't the public have the same high quality that is provided by other Sephora stores? read more

After shopping there last night for back to school clothes and spending over $200 I decided I would go back tonight with my husband who is white ( I say that because it will come up again). So my husband found a Echo jogging outfit that was $60 per piece but he wanted to try it on first. None of the fitting rooms have signs on them so sense I was shopping in the kids section for my son he went to the fitting room that was next to the men's restroom. He was approached by two mexican women employees. They started to yell at him and told he could not use this fitting room and he had to use the one by the front registers. He then told them that they just lost a sell because of how rude they were. Both employees said that's fine we dont care. Another customer could not believe how rude they were. I walked up to them and asked them where the mens fitting room was and they said in a very nice voice it's in the front of the store. I then told them that they did not have to be rude to my husband and that they lost us a customer. They then became rude and told me goodbye we dont care. Granted at first they were nice ( I am Mexican) so we reported it to what we thought was a manager and she started to chuckle a little bit. We will never come back to this store again. read more

If I could give this a half star, then I definitely would. I went in today, the store was a mess, no staff was around to help when I needed, and when I checked out, the lady was rude. I had asked about a coupon and the lady working responded with " I dont know" in a rude manner, and was not helpful at all. If you're not happy with your job, then get out of customer service. Worst Wedding Ring Shopping experience ever. Staff completely inept. Thought they lost my engagement ring. Then when they found it I realized they never cleaned it even after asking them a couple of times that I wanted that done. Originally when I dropped off my rings about 3 weeks prior I ended up spending 3 hours there for no reason other than the staff not knowing shit. Finally after 3 hours thought we had matters settled. Then I got 3 separate calls later that afternoon 2 from the store manager who apparently couldn't read the work orders. Come to today when I picked up the rings they don't even fit right as the staff didn't take into account how I was going to wear them. Wasted my money on the rings, additional care plan, and time. This should be a memorable experience getting your wedding rings. Now it will be forever tainted with a company who obviously doesn't care about employing staff that has any idea what they are supposed to do. Do not recommend this place to any of my friends or family and unfortunately will have to involve corporate. read more

I love shopping A LOT!! and one of my favorite stores to go to is JcPenney, I love everything about this place: the prices,the service,the clothes, just Everything!!! Just imagine you and your family all dressed up in nice clothes and looking good and just for a few amount of money because the prices are amazing, I like the quality of the clothes. Another thing I love about it its how they treat you if you have questions or any concerns the staff there will help you with pleasure and they're so patient and they really appreciate their job. The store is so clean and eveything its organized. I really encourage you and your family to go to this store you will love it there and you will more then likely find what your looking for here.
