First the bad, walked in to find something specific. I asked a lady for help who was putting away clothes in the women's section. She could care less, didn't want to talk to me. Thankfully she pushed me towards the jewelry section to get an answer. The good.....Anna, behind the jewelry counter has the BEST customer service. I was not in the market for jewelry but walked out with 2 rings just because of her. I had no idea JCP had fine jewelry and wouldn't have known without her engagement. JC Penney still has the same vibe from when I was growing up. That's good or bad depending upon if you are a JC Penney shopper! If you know who you are, then you know who you are. I am not a JC Penney shopper now that I'm grown up and Mom is not buying my clothes anymore lol. What I DO go there for, always, is draperies. JC Penney has never let me down *yet* for window coverings. Go downstairs to the basement floor and there is a generous selection, including many blackout curtain choices, rods, and etc. Keep a lookout for the topnotch window covering sales as that will save you a lot of money. Also, check for anything marked down - we got some perfectly respectable curtain hooks for half off. As per above, the store is a bit tired, but the window coverings are worth the trip. So it turned out we didn't need those marvelously priced curtain hooks, though, and returns? Well, let's just say that they have a way to go before their returns process can keep up with other stores. There is a miniscule counter by the south doors, only one person working it when I was there, a long line doing both returns and pickups, and a single customer returning about 6 different trips worth of items. In other words, depending on your luck, expect a wait. Service both at returns and at draperies was immaculate, however. Liked them a long time ago their company has gone down hill from what it use to be. Customer service is hit or miss while the decent customer service is from the cashiers and that's because they require higher standards. Staff wondering the floors are hit or miss but they often avoid you. I feel bad for them around holidays because it's a disaster zone for clean up. I'm glad they finally got rid of that one lady that had a really, really loud voice. I don't think she ever heard of an inside voice before. Changing rooms. The store only has one damn changing room for the entire store. It only has 6 booths and a third of them are closed half the time. Unless you come early the wait lines to get in are ridiculously long. I swear some people have nothing better to do but chat on their phone in the changing booth for 20+ minutes holding up the line. No staff to tell these people to "hurry it up." Due to lack of staffing I'm seeing clothing piling up in the return bins more than normal. There's not as much merchandise as there use to be. Mostly due to people buying things online these days and other various factors. The quality of their clothing has gone down hill as well. I buy clothing only to have it get worn and torn looking after 1-2 months of washing/use. And I'm very careful with my clothing. Clothing standards seem to be very unrealistic for what they expect to fit their clientele. You have either chunky/curvy or you have petite fits. Well? Where's everyone else? They don't have them. Oh, be careful what you buy as I've had a lot of color bleeding issues from various clothing. I stopped buying their brands because of it. More popular brands I can buy any where so I buy them else where. I do not like their online ordering return policy. You pay for return shipping or you have to go into the store and physically return it. No that's a hassle return. I've had issues with online returns. If you order too much they get suspicious if you order too frequently they begin to challenge you and begin to treat you like a thief. Yea, that looses my business. JcPenny has been closing stores for years and I feel this flag ship store is holding on by a thread. Macy's keeps wining my business because of the higher customer service and easier online returns that are hassle free. JcPenny returns are hassles. Even if you return in person and are legit. The return people are not to question you but they do it all the time. Do not buy online furniture from JcPenny. I bought a bedroom set and delivery was clutter f* mess. Ordered shoes on-line, but the fit turned out to be too big. Started a return, packed the box (including the printed return slip), took to UPS to scan and ship, received return receipt. Then the shoes show back up on my porch! Tried emailing JCPenney- received a simple reply that said to try CHAT instead. Odd, since the return form says to EMAIL, but Okaaaay.... Tried CHAT and after a long back and forth, the only suggestion was to start a return again EVEN THOUGH I showed them the page that won't let me start a new return on the item. So CHAT suggested I CALL. Called customer service only to be told they can't do another return on that item (yes, because I correctly returned it!) and that I should GO TO A STORE. So now I'm driving 45 minutes one way to return an item I already returned CORRECTLY. Thanks. Your system is broken, JCPenney's. Not too mention customer service made the very weakest attempt possible to fix the issue. Sadly, I liked the shoes and would have looked for another size, but not anymore. I went into this JC Penney today to pick up something that I saw online and noticed that the price was $25 more than the online price. So, I stood right in front of the item and ordered it on my phone for in-store pickup. After killing 2 hours at the mall, I got a text that my order was ready. When I got to the pick-up location, I saw that it was also where returns are handled, and there was a long line of people returning Christmas gifts. Two signs hung from the ceiling, each with a downward-pointing arrow. One said "pickups," and the other "returns. " These signs hung over a stantion that had been set up. The long line of people returning things were on the right side of the stantion, which according to the ceiling signs was correct. I waited on the LEFT side of the stantion to pick up my purchase. When the next clerk became available, she ignored me and looked at the returns line and said, "Next " That's when I stepped forward and asked, "Isn't this the line for pickups?" and was told that it was all one line. I then pointed to the ceiling signs and asked, "Well then, what's that?" She then acquiesced and handled my pickup. So kudos to the clerk for doing the right thing, but I shouldn't have had to point out those two big signs to her. Seems like a training issue. read more

Yesterday we shopped at this store in South Center mall. The store itself was disorganized, messy and had little help. The issue we had was with some clothing items being on the wrong rack because of the mess and a miscommunication about the price. When we discovered the product we bought was far more expensive the manager Alaina( so she said even though a name tag said Stacy) was rude and insinuating accusing us of changing the sign before she even had time to discover the true issue. The other manager, a lovely, older gentleman, was very apologetic and helpful. But due to the horrible treatment by Alaina, we will not be returning to this store. read more

I work in airports so I have to go through security and because of this, they think that I'm smuggling something every time, so I can't wear them to work. Wow this place has really, really gone down hill!!!! I recently went in for some basic t shirts, but what I found was nothing but a clusterfuck. There wasn't a single table in the entire women's department that had folded clothes -- they were all just thrown on the tables or even the floor and there was absolutely no organization of any kind. Every where I went was rack after rack after rack of disorganization clothes carelessly thrown around. Huge piles of clothes on the floor, lots of garbage everywhere. The men's section was a lot better, but still pathetically disorganized. I'm not one of those super anal clean people, but this was too much for me. To the point I felt embarrassed for them because they let their store slide so far. There was a girl who asked the cashier for help as I was leaving empty handed. He told her that they were short staffed and shrugged, basically telling her that she was on her own. This is the first time that I've come to the salon in my entire life. Being a woman of color I was pretty skeptical on what the results may be. Although I did describe the situation I knew the pricing was not correct for what I was looking for, I originally booked the appointment online for myself and my daughter and gave a detailed description on what I was looking for each of us. Needless to say when we got to the salon things turned out a little bit different but we had two very awesome stylist who understood what we need it. I do recommend that you book online and leave a description of exactly what you need and hope for a call to clarify or give them a call in the store that you're looking for tell them what you need don't be afraid to give details and I'll make sure that you were connected to the proper stylist. With so many different varieties of hair nowadays and the prices at people charge to help us keep it healthy we should never have to walk away paying a price with something we're not happy with. Although this was a little more expensive than I was hoping for I do know that the next appointment for my daughter will be much less and for myself as well. We will be returning back to keep up on our maintenance and to help keep our healthy. Thank you so much to these wonderful women (Franisa and Beryl)who helped get us back on track. There are a few other women of color there as well if thats is what you are looking for. JCP also does locs, twist, braids (cornrows and extentions) and weaves. JCPenney has really stepped up their game. I was looking for new work shirts and couldn't find what I needed. I found an amazing associate, SEVILLA! She happily walked around for 5 mins looking for what I needed. I would have never found them without her! They were out of my size, so she took me back to a register, looked them up and placed an online order for me. I ordered 5 and they showed up in 4 days to the store. The pick up was so organized and the lady working was so kind. In and out in 5 mins with my 5 well made Liz Claiborne button-down collared black work shirts. In all honesty, I don't know how JCPenney is still in business. Avoid this store at all costs! It's dim, unorganized, and the checkout lines are SLOW. I really don't understand how it should take longer than 5 minutes to checkout, when it's almost a ghost town in there. I haven't stepped foot into a JCPenney in over a decade. I was looking for a stockpot, and Google displayed a suggestion for 3 stockpots for only $17.99 at JCPenney. The deal seemed too good to be true, so my friend and I took a look at their website. When my friend saw their website, he actually thought that it was a fake JCPenney website. The website looks so outdated, that my friend refused to believe that we were actually on JCPenney.com. I had to go to Google, type in JCPenney, and click on the official link in order for my friend to believe that it was actually JCPenney's official website. That should say a lot about how outdated they are. I placed an order pickup for the stockpot, and the pickup email says to talk to an associate to pick up your items. I went to the store the next day, I got in line, and there was only one person in front of me. It took about 5-7 minutes until it was my turn. When my turn came, I told the associate that I was there to pick up an item. She pointed in a direction and said "pick ups are over there." No smile on her face, and no acknowledgment when I said thank you. The pickup section was a mess. They have tacky half filled displays of miscellaneous items. There was a line for returns, and a line for store pickup. There was a sign that said "JCPenney Express", and I had no idea what it meant. I assumed that it was an express line for cardholders, so I went into the return line. After standing in line, I notice a smaller print saying "online pickup" under the huge express word. Why wouldn't you just make a huge sign saying online pickup instead of a huge sign saying JCPenney express. The signs that are hung on the ceiling to help guide you to where everything is, wasn't much better. The online pickup words were so small, that I didn't even notice it at first. You'd think that since almost every retailer offers online pickup now and that it's a popular option that a lot of people utilize, JCPenney would invest more money into marketing it. Nope. It's truly a half assed job, and they shouldn't even be offering online pickup. Even though the online pickup and the returns section were separated, there was only one associate working in the whole area. She would help one person from the pickup line, then one person from the returns line, etc. Why make two lines in the first place? At that rate, just group everybody into one line. I assumed that they separated the lines so that somebody could jump on order pickup since it's fast and quick, while another associate works on the returns line. Nope, it's just JCPenney being JCPenney. Messy. The associate working the pickup counter was not friendly either. The girl in front of me had said that she was there for an order pickup. Here's how the encounter went down: Customer: hi there, I'm here for an order pickup -hands the associate her ID- Associate: do you have an email Customer: yes I do, let me just find it real quick Associate: did you get a "your order is ready" email?" Customer: yes I did -searching for the email on her phone- Associate: are you sure that it was actually a your order is ready email, and not a confirmation email. Cause it needs to say that your order is ready for pickup. She was basically talking to the customer as if she was dumb, and she had an attitude in her voice the whole time. It baffles me how their service can be so terrible, when they're barely staying afloat. These employees need to be retrained, because JCPenney won't be around forever. With the horrible service that they're providing, they're contributing to JCPenney filing for bankruptcy at a faster rate. Forever 21, Barney's, Sears, etc. have all filed for bankruptcy. JCPenney will easily without a doubt, be the next one to go. If you hate your job so much, go get a new one. Nobody is forcing you to work at JCPenney's. The store looks depressing, and all of the employees look miserable. Tear this place down, chop it up, and put some better stores or restaurants in its place. read more

I'm usually here to get the kids' photographed. Both times was pleasant. The photographers were nice, they were very accommodating. They work well with kids at all ages. However, it was my 8-month old son that wasn't happy at the time. We tried all sorts to make him smile, but wasn't very successful. Her photography skills were alright, not so impressive. There's a few shots that has some unnecessary props in it. Also, she didn't center it right and cut off my son's foot in one of the pictures. The quality is the same as my DSLR camera. The only thing I don't have at home is a nice backdrop, Other than that, I think I have better photography skills than she does. I keep on coming back to this location is because of their Groupon deals. Don't ever go to the optical here. I've been coming here for years, since I was a high schooler and the lady who works here never answers the phone. I've literally called every hour just trying to make an appointment or refill my prescription and she could care less. She won't answer any calls and I'll even leave voicemails. Wow - haven't been into a Penny's in years - now I remember why - it's an overpriced Goodwill......All the clothing was "on sale", with racks and racks of clothes that looked like they were out of my Grandma's closet. Couldn't find anything in the shoe department - Payless has a better selection and quality. The reason we went here was to use a gift card the big one got for Christmas - it was for Sephora (at JCPenney) - I know the gift giver thought it was good at all Sephora's but it isn't. They are an odd outlet of Sephora - they don't honor Sephora coupons or promotions - they supposedly have their own. Got talked into opening a JCPenny card and assumed that I would get 20% off, like the sign promised (oh wait - not valid in Sephora at JCPenny locations - this ticks me off - so no perk - will close the card with the 1st payment). The only positive was Roth in Sephora - he was great helping my daughter pick out new foundation (so she doesn't look like an oompa loompa) but it did set me back $115! JCPenney has gone through a lot of changes over the years, and this location is probably the most typical example of a modern JCP. The service is terrible, mostly because everyone looks like they are stoned out of their minds or just completely apathetic to everything around them. I'm actually ok with that as long as they organized the clothing in a halfway logical manner. Even a child can discern that they have put the pride in their work on layaway because their credit is in the trash. The store is at least clean, but I would much rather go to Costco if I want to get lost, and Target if I want cheap clothing. If you're in the mall and have some time to burn on looking for a decent sale, then by all means, head down to the JCPenney. Last 12/8/13 around 3pm.My 70yr.old mother was assisted by 2 salespersonnel When she requested for a bigger size,Sales person no.1 "looked" in the computer while in the mean time sales person no. 2 went to the stock room. JCPenny Optical in Southcenter Mall gets a ZERO stars in my opinion. I had gotten my glasses at the Alderwood Mall back in 2000 plus. I still wore them to these day!! My husband and I got our glasses at Southcenter, i love the fact that i had mine done at JCPENNEY Optical before, i decided to go back to them...BIG MISTAKE!! I got mine sometimes in March/April timeframe of 2017. I asked mine NOT to be bi-focal. My insurance paid some and i paid additional $255 out of pocket..cost total was almost $900. When i got it, something wasn't right but i thought it was because i am used to it, since i normally wear contacts. Second time i wore it, i figured out it was because it had bi-focal and it keeps dropping out when i looked down. Brought it back, they said they took the bi-focal off, fixed the sides so it fits tighter on my face...3rd time i tried it, still with bi-focal...brought it back and they said no it's not that. As of today, i wore my $900 glasses 4 times and yes it still it problematic for me and yes it is still loose and falls out of my face. I quite frankly HATE them because i cant use them. How many chances before they get it right?? I wish i can get a new pair but i cant because i already used my annual coverage through my insurance. I love J.C. Penny. Its the only affordable clothing shop in all malls. They have wide variety of brands to choose from that fits your budget. They have clothing, shoes, perfumes, jewelry, small home appliances etc for kids and adults. I love their coupons and I was pretty upset when they discontinued it. They seems to have reintroduced coupons by mailing them. However coupons are no longer available in stores. They have closed the shop in Bellevue and I am not happy about it. They need to bring confidence back in their customers rather than closing stores. read more

Wow this is awful service especially when I'm deciding where to get a full kitchen suite. You need to train your employees better. The questions were basic like what are your financing options, cost of installation, removal of appliance fees and warranty options...just so you're aware other retailers happily provide this information. read more

It has never been a place to go for high fashion (which works out perfectly for me because I am very much not a high fashion kind of girl), but it has always been fine for basics. Jeans. T-shirts. Underwear. Socks. I have even bought the occasional "business casual" item to wear to work. So, I was disappointed/surprised/chagrined when I walked through the women's clothing department a few weeks back and found, well, junk. And, I don't mean "que" junque; this was total junk with "k." It really seemed the quality of the clothing had gone down, while the prices had gone up. After a few minutes of wandering the racks of ghastly-colored polyesters, shuddering all the way, I made my way upstairs.... ...where my husband was doing some shopping of his own. He had grabbed a what was actually a nice-enough, but pretty basic, shirt off a rack with a sign that read "$18.99." So, we were surprised when it rang in at $50.00. (And, when we checked the tag, sure enough, that is what it said.) The cashier went over to check the sign on the rack and brought it over to us to show it actually reads "$18.99" (in a very large typeface) and "and up" (in a much smaller one). Now, I know about the old "and up" trick and could understand if the price for an item on the "$18.99 and up" rack was $21, or even $25. But more than twice the price? There was no way in hell we were going to pay $50.00 for this shirt. So, the cashier voided the sale. The whole episode cost us time and aggravation. It cost the cashier time and aggravation. So, what, JC Penney, is the point? I know JC Penney is trying to "re-invent" itself. So, hopefully, it will re-invent itself back into a place my husband and I would actually want to shop. I'm certain we'll give it another chance at some point. But, after this last experience that failed to please on so many levels, it will probably be a while. read more
