I was incredibly impressed with the service that my husband and I experienced at JCPenney today, which was a rainy Saturday (aka busy mall time). We were looking for housewares. These days most department stores have so few staff that I wasn't expecting any assistance. First we stopped in window treatments and had a wonderful experience with Margo. Margo gave us lots of good tips about JCPenney honeycomb blinds, which is what we were interested in. Then we went to appliances and William immediately offered his assistance with a washer/dryer. His input was incredibly helpful since we have a small space for a washer/dryer. Thank you for making such a strong impression on us. We greatly appreciate your help! read more

And this is how you retain your customers! My JC Penny experience was mainly online, but spilled over to the Wheaton mall location. About a week ago I ordered a pair of Roman shades online; cute grey shades at an already reduced price with an extra 25% off. A real steal, I was excited. Two days later and to my delight an email came stating that my order had been delivered; however when I got home no order was to be found. Baffled, but not too worried I decided to give it a day before I called to inquire about it. The following day, still no package, so I decided to reach out to UPS first, since they were the ones who claimed to have delivered it. Long story short, UPS had no clue where my package was and they frankly didn't care (terrible customer service!). I contacted JCPenny's and they were extremely helpful with attempting to track it down. There were discrepancies as to where it got delivered, but bottom line it did not come to me. UPS said they delivered it to the Wheaton mall location and then they said they delivered it to some guy named Larry. I don't know a Larry and I was sick of the back and fourth. Frustrated with UPS, JCPenny's and Larry, I decided to just cancel the order. JCPenny's promptly issued me a refund AND they offered me a $25 E-gift card for my inconvenience, which I promptly excepted. Funny thing is, I was so annoyed with having to go through the hassle of tracking down the package that I had decided to never shop at JCPenny's again, as this was my first time ordering from them and the experience was bad. Now of course I expected the refund of my money, but the $25 gesture is really what softened my stance and made me change my mind. A few days later I went to the store to see what I could find and my oh my do they know how to have a sale! They practically give the clothes away! Lots of career appropriate wear, in lots of sizes. I got a new job recently, so I've been trying to up the ante with how I present. I've always considered JCPenny's to be for the "matured woman"(I still do!), but I guess she is me now! I've been sleeping on JCPenny's, but I will definitely be back this fall, as the clothes that they carry are geared towards the look that I am going for. I got two tops, a pair of earrings and a necklace with the gift card and only had to add $10 of my own money! Everything was on clearance with an extra 25% off. Hats off to JCPenny's for knowing how to retain a customer who had every intention of not returning. ...And Larry, wherever you are I sure hope you are enjoying my Roman shades!! read more

I just left the JC Penney at the Mall in Columbia. I saw a Levi jacket, among several other Levi jackets on the same rack, with a sales sign that read "35% to 45% off of Levi Outerwear." I took the jacket to the register to get the sales price. I was told by the salesperson that the jacket came up in the register as "buy one get the second one half off." I told the salesperson that was not what the sign read. I took the sign off of the rack and brought it to the register to show it to her. I then asked to see the manager. She said she was the manager. She then had another salesperson check the price on the register, and got the same "buy one, get one half off." She, the manager, would not honor the sale sign. So, I left the store. I've spent thousands of dollars in JC Penney over the years. A manager with no customer service skills caused JC Penney this sale and future sales. read more

This JC Penney has been totally remodeled and has an excellent home goods department. Not only are the prices excellent, but you can usually an additional 10-20% off coupon (either pull it up on your smartphone or print it at home from the website). Twice I had somebody come up to ask me if I needed assistance which was really unexpected. I was really impressed by the selection in the home goods department and found from excellent deals - better than you'd find at a Bed Bath and Beyond. read more

I am giving JC Penney 2 stars for the shopper experience in-store -- it would be higher for online shopping. Despite upgraded stores and multiple revised promotions, JC Penney still hasn't made the shopping experience easy and convenient. They still have these centralized cashier stations - and very few of them per store -- where you must often wait quite a long time to complete a purchase. I've been in JC Penney stores twice recently, the cashier stations are equipped for 4 cashiers. The lines were consistently at least 8-10 people deep - and only 1 or 2 cashiers were on duty. What makes the whole experience more off-putting is that although they have returned to sales and clearance racks throughout the store, they all proclaim $5 and up or $10 and up, etc. That's fine -- but there are no price check machines or cashiers. So, if you find items for sale that you would consider buying, you must wait in one of those long lines to just get a price check. So far -- there hasn't been anything I wanted badly enough to stand in line for a price check -- so they didn't make a sale, and I saved money! read more

Pleasantly surprised at seems to be their J C Penney's new look. Maybe it's been a while since we were here. Before the renovation and new stores added to the mall this store had become very boring. My wife ordered glasses and I was really shocked to see she could received 2 pairs of "designer" frames for $99. Well hush my mouth, and never question when your wife says so! Not only did we receive a good deal, but the service was above and beyond. She received 2 hard cases cleaning fitting all with a big smile and come again! read more

I always flock to the juniors section here. Bargains to be had. No matter what the price tag says - it always seems to be on sale for less. Fitting rooms are neat and uncrowded. Staff is usually helpful and friendly. They have a great selection so I always end up buying something here. Also check out their swimsuits! Absolutely adorable. read more

Had to return an item that I bought online and they sent me the wrong size. OMG this place is awful, only I register opened on both floors with huge lines. Waited in 30 minutes in line to just exchange the item to get "you have to go to Customer service upstairs". Went upstairs and no one was there. I had to track down someone just to exchange shoes that they had sent the wrong size. This place is stuck in a time warp. read more

Tried to telephone the Men's Dept., the Operator and several other extensions tonight at this Veirs Mill JC Penney location; but, the phone just rang and rang. It was answered once, but they immediately disconnected. Similar experience same evening at the Columbia, MD location, but at that store the Operator eventually answered. Good products but because of this I'm picking up a half dozen suits at another chain tomorrow. Was merely trying to check for my size but almost impossible to reach a human. read more

Visited Sephora in JCPenney and waited 20minutes to just get an associate to ask a simple question. After 20minutes in which there was only one associate a checkout and 5 people in line patiently waiting and I had to wait in that line to ask a question since no one else was on the floor. I then got to front of line and was told there is another associate but she went to bathroom and will be back soon. Waited another 15minutes and when she got there she started helping checkout. I told her I had a question about a certain eyeshadow color...all shadows were out of their place and very unorganized. She said she did not know..started to look through an under drawer with lots of unorganized colors thrown in..she only went through a couple and said we dont have it. Neither associates seemed knowledgeable about any of the products on the floor or what was in stock. This was not the first time this exact situation happened many times before. Eek. read more

I was at your store today browsing for curtains with my 8-year-old daughter, when a lovely sales associate called Hiwot approached me and offered her assistance. She was so patient and knowledgeable about the products and provided lots of helpful advice, including suggesting that I can order items which were not on display, which I did!! It's 8:30pm in Monday all I wanted was a pack of socks for my son. I'm at the register and asked the lady there if I could pay there. I couldn't understand what she was telling me since her English was not good. I guessed that she told me to wait in line. Since she was pointing to customers who were looking at stuff and was gesturing that there was another worker who wasn't there so to wait. A minute or so later another lady comes and told me I had to go upstairs because the register was closed. At that point I was mad because that's definitely not what the First Lady told me. I go upstairs and walked about the whole floor and could not find one person at a register. At this point I just threw the socks down and left. I shouldn't have to go looking for someone especially on different floors to pay for an item and then to waste my time walking around and not find one person at a register or at least near. We have waited three full days at home for a washer/dryer delivery that has never came. Dec 22, Dec 28 and Dec 29. Three wasted days of work and no call from customer service. My husband is on terminal hold right now trying to speak to a supervisor to arrange now a 4th delivery. We are looking for a manager/supervisor to make this right. read more

Short review: this store is so-so overall -- good layout, but not a great price-to-quality balance. I'd warn anyone against going there though because of their terrible customer service. I had a really obnoxious experience there this weekend, which I'll vent about below if anyone feels like reading my complaints at length. I found a couch on the JCPenney website that I was interested in buying, but wanted to look at in person (and sit on) before committing all the money. Since I live about 45 minutes away, I called ahead to this store to explain the situation. Having to call 3 times before anyone in the furniture department actually answered the phone should have been a warning sign, but after I gave her the name and item number for the couch the person I spoke to told me they had it in stock and that I could come check it out. When I got to the store, I looked through the furniture section and didn't see the couch. I finally tracked down an employee to ask about it -- she passed me off to a manager, who then passed me off to another employee. This employee looked up the couch on the in-store computer, then asked me if I wanted to go ahead and order it. I explained that I could have done that myself from home, and explained again why I'd driven out to the store. The employee helping me at that point asked me to wait, went around to look through the furniture section herself, then came back and told me she "didn't see it." I asked if there was anyone who could tell me for sure whether it was there -- the employee went and got the manager again, who again told me to wait, and then came back with their furniture saleswoman (seems like this would have been the person to go to the first time). The furniture saleswoman said they in fact didn't have the couch. I explained to the manager my frustration with this -- almost 3 hours wasted, with the round trip and an hour in store waiting as I got passed off from employee to employee. She asked, "Is there anything I can do to make this day less bad for you?" I assumed she was offering a discount so I asked if she would drop the price if I found something else I wanted to buy. She rolled her eyes at me and said "I guess we could offer you 10% off your purchase." She then went on to explain to me that this really wasn't the level of customer service she expected from her employees. I'd say given my experiences, with phones going unanswered and employees looking like they were doing whatever they could to avoid having to help a customer, that should be the exact level of service expected. read more

My little brother and little cousin decided to sit down where the clothes were placed, to wait for my uncke to try on suits. They had moved the items; nothing was damaged. Afterwards, an associate in Men's (near the suits section) names Andy (Male; Ethiopian) approached my underage brother and cousin (who are 15, 7 respectively) and scream at them to get off. My brother had apologized, got up with my cousin and left. Considering my brother actually apologized and left peacefully should be enough for Andy; however, he kept going on screaming, shouting, and asking rudely for us to pay. I was enraged and infuriated that one of your associates would pick on underage children (my brother and cousin) so I stepped in. This associate Andy was very rude to me as well. His actions showed that he clearly did not care about the customerS. I believe this was an abuse of "power" as he worked there. Right After the incident, I attempted to contact a store manager to no avail. I contacted customer service through a phone number I found online and they advised me to wait 3/4 days for a call back from a Store manager. It's 1/6/15 (7 days after the intial incident) and I still haven't gotten a call back from the store manager regarding this issue. I even attempted to call the store on 1/6/15 at 301-929-5100 to speak to the store manager but nobody answered. At this point, I had to actually walk in the store (1/6/15) to ask for his/her name. This is truly unprofessional as it shows not only does the associate doesn't care about the customers, but neither does the store manager. I have been a JCPennys customers for years. I don't mind paying a little more $$ to Macy's just to be treated with the respect and dignity my family and I deserve. read more

This review is for the portrait studio. The staff was courteous and extremely helpful but the photographer was a jerk. He acted as if he was doing you a favor in taking your picture. I know it is an affordable studio but that shouldn't mean he should act like that. The pictures were okay but I just don't think I will be coming back to this portrait studio. No associates on floor. In Thursday , August 11,2016 only one register between three floors was open. I left my shopping.

I went to pick up my order at jewelry section. It has only one person working their. It took 20 mins to find my order . After that I would like to return because it was not fit. It took more than 40 mins to do refund. Guess what ! They did not know how to use a computer . 3 persons try to figure it out how to do refund. Unfortunately I cound not wait that long. Unsuccessful refund. First time for me to purchase staff at JC Penny. Bad and terrible experience . I called customer service to get my refund. She told me that she did refund money back to my card but could not sent me a refund receipt . Crazy!!!!!!!! You know what I will keep posted every where that link to JC penny. This is by far the WORST Sephora I have ever visited. The most terrible customer service and that's rare in any free standing Sephora. There was not anyone on the floor that was helpful at all. Someone asked for a sample and the employee said they are out of jars. Are you kidding me??? Sephora out of sample jars??? When the line got longer there was a lady there who seemed to be a manager and she started to ring people out with an attitude as if she wanted it to be known that she was not suppose to be helping out. This place needs an employee makeover to ever get close to 4 or 5 stars. Now switching over to JCP in the Women's section, I tried on some heels. The heels were lace up heels so I asked an employee that was standing around the area if she could help me. This lady said "I have no idea how that goes" and walked away. All I could do was laugh. Went here because they had an nice selection of swimsuits on their website, but I knew I wouldn't be happy buying swimsuit online. They had a variety of sizes, shapes & colors. Sometimes the sizes weren't the most organized (size 8 next to size 22W, etc.) but I found quite a few I liked and narrowed it down to 4 or 5 I could live with. Convenient to buses and Metro across Viers Mill Road at Wheaton Station. read more

I am not one to complain about a business or make a fuss over small things but OMG this place is a disaster. The inefficiency of the staff is astonishing. The pictures themselves took no more than 10 minutes but after that it took 40 minutes to view the pictures and once we picked the pictures we wanted it was an additional 20 minutes. Now I don't know if they were short staffed or just normally inefficient. People were coming in and leaving before other people who have been waiting and it was causing a big issue, people were having to wait even though they were their first. Look the photographers were great it just all went downhill after that. read more

This review is specifically for JCPenney custom blinds in Wheaton. I have had a terrible experience, and it's still not over. I decided to go with JCP b/c they had Hunter Douglas blinds plus basic custom roller blinds. I had to go with custom b/c I have floor to ceiling windows. Carl, who has had decades of experience, came out with another designer, to measure in August 2010. My blinds didn't arrive until December. No kidding. The installers came with two vans and could only find 2 hr parking and were in a big hurry to hang them & did a sloppy job. (screws are not flush with the wall). I was so happy to finally be done with this saga, but it still wasn't over. One hunter douglas blind was broken (couldn't go up & down). One roller shade was 4 inches too narrow. Another roller shade had a broken valance and the cord didn't work. So after 5 months, I still only had 2 of the 5 blinds I ordered hanging. I've been asking what kind of discount they will offer but so far, they haven't agreed to an amount. The workers returned in January with the remaining blinds. They arrived short one blind! So here it is, the last day of February, and my blinds still aren't installed. They haven't even called me back to schedule the next installation. Each time they come I have to take off work, but they don't seem to care. Do NOT order blinds from JCP. I live in a condo and have lots of friends ordering blinds at this time so JCP has lost lots of potential business thanks to this, but they don't seem to care. read more
