I personally went to Martha for back pain that has bothered me for many years. I don't want to give away her magic (which, to be honest, felt a little metaphysical/holistic though she well-educated in Western medicine), but instead of a battery of weird exercises, she was able to pinpoint my pain, and determine that my pain in my chest was actually referred from my back (she was right). Then as I lay or lie or lain or lied on my back (*smh because I'm a Language Arts teacher), she did some sort of gentle acupressure-like stuff on my neck and back, accompanied with electricity... I'm not sure what she was doing, but I felt so relaxed, and even with my eyes closed, fighting off sleep, the endorphin release caused me to see the color purple. (Not Whoopi Goldberg, but like a purple glow). Since just that first visit, the sharp pain I felt every 2 minutes I have only felt twice an hour. I feel I am in good hands, literally. Update: Second visit. 1/3/17. My chest pains had got much worse one cold night on a day I took no Advil. She treated them again and I haven't felt the chest pains at all since. She has explained what's wrong with my gait and posture, why, and what to do about it. It's not that she's given me a silver bullet that made everything all better, but I know what to do to keep improving. I'm now planning on hiking again instead of planning for a life in a wheelchair. Dr. Lintag and her staff worked to develop a customized series of exercises to strengthen the low back muscles, and add flexibility to the spine. Dr. Lintag and her staff modified the exercises and therapy procedures from meeting to meeting depending on the pain level and stiffness. There were good days where the treatment was aggressive, and there were bad days where we had to reduce the intensity of the exercises. The HealthSummit staff were understanding of my needs and my body's response to therapy and different exercise routines. After about 4 weeks of treatment, the low back pain was significantly decreased and flexibility was greatly improved - what a change! Pro Active Physical Therapy is a small clinic in Sunnyvale, and one big plus is that they take…read moreinsurance, which is harder to find at other clinics on the Peninsula. Intake scheduling was easy, though you can't book or cancel future sessions through the portal. You have to call, but they're responsive on the phone. The space is small, with only 2-3 patients there at a time. Appointments are 30 minutes, done in curtained bed areas, and focused on manual therapy. I worked with Jay (aide) and Jannie (PT) and enjoyed working with both of them. One thing worth mentioning, not as a criticism, is that most of my sessions were with a PT aide rather than the PT directly, who mainly handled assessments. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I think it might be common in clinic settings? but it did leave me wondering how comprehensive my treatment was. I also had trouble getting clarity on specialty services. I understand there are some inherent limitations there, but I think the clinic could set clearer expectations upfront for patients considering that route. Overall clinic model wasn't the right fit for me. I completed 15 visits and gave it a real try, but I needed more structured guidance and supervision while doing my PT exercises to make sure I was doing them correctly. That kind of structure has helped me make faster progress in the past. Manual therapy may work well for some people, but it didn't meet my needs.

They should not call themselves Dr. xyzzy etc. After the expensive initial evaluation, the therapist said that the neck pain is coming from the shoulder!! My Primary Care Physician, without even looking at it said that these are 2 separate issues!! After the 3rd therapy my pain aggravated so much that I have even difficulty putting on clothes now. All are not simple muscles problems, some are tricky and need to treated accordingly and need more knowledge. I went to the therapist because I was in pain and I wanted to let them know that I am in pain and where and how much. Instead of listening to me with empathy, the therapist was rude to me. Even she answered one of my question saying, this is the last time I will explain, when she never explained that before. Ideally it is their due diligence to explain the treatment or any pain points we bring up. I literally felt that I am paying her to get insulted!! The staff is rude as well. They think only we need them, and it is our problem and they don't care. The therapist even pulled down the Medical Doctor Residents for their knowledge without even knowing about them!!!! The doctors go to school for 11+ years and to put them down is pure arrogance!! My strong recommendation to anyone having shoulder pain, please see the Orthopedic surgeon/doctor first. AND do not let ANY therapist do massage or any other treatment on that area except let them show you exercise or ask your Orthopedic doctor for the alternative treatments. The muscles/tissues in this area are very sensitive and should be respected and treated accordingly.
