We went to Jean's Cottage in Union Gap Wa. As we was there in town. The chicken fried steak was very good and the gravy was pretty awesome and the baked potato loaded was cooked to perfection. I literally have no complaints about this place. We were told with Texas Roadhouse moving into town they were struggling to keep the doors open. I myself will support a local business that's been there for years over a chain. To everyone out there if you're in the union gap area head over to Jean's Cottage and try their food out and support the local business over a chain. read more

I have not been here in 20yrs (moved away) and visiting in town now so decided I had to come here.. The place is still the same, great vibe, excellent service and the food/recipe has not changed which is awesome. You still get your $ worth in food and I have yet to see the bottom of my coffee cup which, to me, means they pay attention to what is going on with the customers/tables. I've always heard good things about Jean's and it had been decades since I've eaten there. We stopped in for breakfast and I had the steak tips breakfast. I'll start with the good things of this meal. It was hardly no wait to place the order and receive our food. Eggs, hashbrowns, toast were great. The issue was the steak that was way overcooked. This was a thin steak so probably cooked real fast, so dousing it with A-1 helped me take it down. Missed the mark on the melting in my mouth, so a 1out of 5 for the steak. All the other meals were good. Might want to take note from Mels diner on steak tips, they are the best I've ever had. read more

Wow! Best American diner breakfast I've had in a long time!!! I had the biscuits and gravy special with sausage gravy over scrambled eggs on top of biscuits with a side of hashbrowns. First, the sausage gravy was so flavorful with huge chunks of sausage. Second, the eggs were fluffy and piled high on the biscuit. Third, the biscuit was so fluffy and soft. Fourth, the hashbrowns were the best I've ever had. They were crispy, but then fluffed up and tossed. I had a huge plate of food for 11.99. I even saved a portion of it and ate it two days later. It was still so good. My partner got the chicken fried steak and ate every crumb of his plate. We ordered a side of bacon, not knowing it is the best bacon, because it is thick cut and deep fried. I really wanted the homemade cinnamon roll for 4.99. It was the size of a plate. It looked so good. Our service was so friendly and sweet. The place was bustling and diverse. Next time we are in town that is going to be the breakfast stop! Great price point, great service, great food, you feel like you're in the heart of America. That said, this is my new favorite place for chicken fried steak! Asked for the gravy to be on the biscuit and it was delightful. The biscuit was light and fluffy and the gravy perfectly seasoned. Had 13 oz ribeye, it was so tough to chew. When I was a student at YVCC back in 2008 and 2009, I used to come here. Yes, it was a long time ago, 13oz ribeye was I think less than $15. The meat was tender back then. Now in 2025, the price has come up $29 amd the meat has become so tough. I guess our life has become so tough to live as well. This is a place that we've been driving by since I was five years old, but until recently we'd never stopped by. Union gap ran a Burger Week recently and we finally stopped in - winning! The place is the quintessential mom and pop shop alone the main drag on Union Gap. We ordered a couple burgers to go and these were total beef barges! Like, huge - big enough that it effectively required two hands. The pepper jack bacon burger was amazingly good and the double bacon cheeseburger was quite brilliant! The fries were solid, though less mind blowing than the burgers. They were a good price for the size and a couple were perfect for feeding two adults and three kids. Bravo Jeans! Been wanting to try this place since I moved to Yakima drove part it many times. They have steaks available on a sign on the building. Went there today it was my. Birthday and my wife wanted to take me somewhere. So I chose this place. Decor is fifties inn. Doesn't matter to me long as the food is good. I ordered the Tbone my wife ordered the Ribeye. My steak ranged from medium to medium well. The Ny side was a tuff . The loaded baked potato I got could have been done slightly longer it was just under cooked. The steak was cooked on a flattop which is horrible way to cook a steak. Kinda steams it if the flattop it not fricken blazing hot. The navy bean soup was pretty good. And the waitress knew it was my birthday. She drops a brownie in front of me and dryly say happy birthday. She could have been more attentive. Had to ask for more ice tea. Normally long as you keep my tea filled and check back little after I get my food just to make sure it's good I'm happy. You don't have to dote over me. read more

I can't say enough good about this place!!! Our family had history eating there over 50 years ago. Special place where my husband asked my Fad for my hand in marriage . Now today 49 years later we met up with my brother for lunch. Service was top rate and food exceptionally good !!My brother thought it was better than he remembered.
