Service was excellent and the store appears clean and inviting. They have many flavors to choose from. I will give the benefit of the doubt in saying although they key lime pie and toasted coconut flavors were very tasty, they didn't appear to be the freshest, especially the coconut. OK. I'm more making this review for the owner, which I'm guessing or maybe hoping is the kids of the original owner. I grew up in Tom's River, my mother grew up in Toms River going to the original Rich's. My first memory of getting ice cream was at Rich's. As an adult, Rich's 2 was my high water mark for all other ice cream places and have spent a lot of day trips going for ice cream to dozens of places... if not over a hundred. Having not been open for years, we have been chasing that dragon elsewhere. When we saw you were opening again, we were so excited. I've been planning this stop for months... being we live 400 miles away. I don't care for the changes. While I still feel the ice cream is ultra premium, I did have ice crystals in the soft serve. Portions are a lot smaller. I got a large soft vanilla with chocolate sprinkles, which is what you would have called a small previously. Now I get it, the cost of everything has gone up. Inflation is up like 20% over 4 years and the prices of goods has gone up more than inflation. But when I order a large... Im not looking at the price, I not getting ice cream at Rich's because I'm worried about how much it's gonna cost or because I'm worried about how bad it is for me. When I ask for a large, I want a lot of ice cream. I can go to stop and shop and get a half gallon of tillamook for $4 if I'm so concerned with prices. You use to dip the ice cream in a tray of sprinkles and roll it around. Now you sprinkle a few spoons of sprinkles on it. I don't like that. The ice cream is served in plastic cups verse the foam cups that were standard. I like the foam better. Maybe paper would work. And lastly the store seemed dirty and the layout doesn't feel right. Everyone who was ever in that store knows how anal Jean was about cleaning everything, always wiping everything down with those sponges. I really hope you take what I'm saying as constructive criticism and not an attack or me trying to be mean. Im really disappointed. I'm sure you'll do fine in business, especially with all the Bennie's coming down in the summer but for people like me, who generationally grew up with Rich's as our gold standard... you've gone down hill. read more

Not the same as Jeans but still pretty good . Jean always had ice cream coming out of the tops of everything. This place is conservative with stuff and had to ask for more . Staff nice and still learning. Owner was there and very nice . Trying to keep jeans is a hard task . She went above and beyond. Definitely going to give them another try . On Saturday, March 7th, we held my mom's surprise 75th birthday party. Denny from Rich's II was more than helpful in accomodating us. We originally wanted an ice cream truck, but when that fell through we pulled a Hail Mary and called this business. They offered to make us 60 individual cups of ice cream with whipped cream and sprinkles. They even delivered it. I can not say enough nice things about Denny, the ice cream and the rest of the crew. Omg so many flavors I didn't know what to choose from . The woman behind the counter was a doll as she let me sample the Pumpkin Cheesecake and omg it's to die for. I decided to get a scoop of Pumpkin Cheesecake and Egg Nog to go. They offer soft serve and hard of the eggnog flavor. I'm upset with myself for never stopping in here. Delicious homemade ice-cream and unique creations. This is our favorite place to stop on our way home from the beach (we even make the u-turn for it!). Portions are crazy big, so go for the smallest size! My favorite is the cone-oli (vanilla soft serve over smashed up cannoli in a waffle cone). Rich's II is a very good ice cream shop on Route 37 in Toms River. I have taken many friends from out-of-town here, and they have all enjoyed it. The quality of the ice cream itself is better than you'd expect, and so are the actual sundaes. Rich's II is a great alternative if you are coming back from Seaside and don't want to eat ice cream on the boardwalk. The girls who work there all know how to make the more advanced sundaes. 4 Stars instead of 5 because they could accept credit cards, and they could also have slightly lower prices. read more

After the disappointing news that Rich's I was forever out of business, we switched to Rich's II. The distinct difference between the two shops is the focus on soft vs. hard ice cream. Rich's I focused on unique soft-serve flavors (like banana, coffee, and pumpkin) while Rich's II focuses on hard ice cream. I apologize for the nostalgic comment with we really do miss Rich's I! In any event, if hard ice cream is your preferred choice, Rich's II has you covered. They have everything from classic vanilla and chocolate to unique flavors like hazelnut cappuccino; not to mention, they offer both white AND green mint chip! They also carry a ton of both wet and dry toppings on hand, so your ice cream sundae knows no limit to combinations. I'm also impressed with their range of ice ream cakes, ice cream bars, and ice cream sandwiches. This place is always packed, but it's worth to make the trip out on 37 to try it. I came to Rich's 2 last year and went feral for it. I live in Florida and went home and told everyone about it, it was the best icecream I've ever had. I am giving 5 stars because it was so fantastic, but I'm sad because I'm visiting again and it's closed for the entirety I'm here!!! Really wish I could pop in and have that Oreo monstrosity they make, but I plan on coming again next year so hopefully they'll be open. read more

Okay, I love this place to death. I'm from California and when I came out here this ice cream is one of the main reasons I loved New Jersey. My only problem is that they only take cash. Before they had no incentive to change anything but now that the other rich's ice cream opened up they need to take cards. I think there's a family spat going on since they aren't connected in any way but the "other" rich's is much more convenient. The fake rich's has won my business the last 4 times I've wanted ice cream, once because the real richs was closer for the season and the other three because they take card. Get a square reader or something, I really don't want to keep giving the fake richs my business but they make it much more convenient in a world where people my age don't carry cash around anymore. read more

Went here after the delightful atmosphere of Burger 25 only to be very rudely waited on. It was not crowded by any means and was around 9pm which I understand is a little later in the evening, but the girls behind the counter were so aggressive and just simply rude that I can't help but take note of. I got the Richie Bar which was a really cool twist on the classic ice cream sandwich dipped in chocolate and coated with cake crunch which was very good. We also got the watermelon gelati which has a picture description that we pointed to when ordering and the girl who seemed very annoyed by the order asked if we wanted the "seeds" (chocolate chips) and we said yes just like the picture please and she rolled her eyes and proceeded on. We were new customers and I guess since we took a minute to browse the rather large and overwhelming menu and then asked what the size differences looked like it annoyed her. Then as soon as we finished ordering, another girl started saying "ill ring you up" and we had no idea she was talking to us from the far other end of the counter. The staff is quite friendly and outgoing, even when you catch them near closing time in the off-season. The place could benefit from some better outdoor seating, but given the layout of the small plaza in which it is located, there isn't much to be done about that. The pricing, as the previous reviewer mentioned, runs a bit high, but is justified by the quality of the product. Being locally owned and operated, and part of a tradition going back to the 1950's, this is precisely the kind of business I like to patronize. It makes me wish I liked ice cream more. This location has been going strong for fifteen years, and it's one of the lighthouses amidst a sea of high turnover and sometimes vacant storefronts. read more

Haven't had a 5 star'er in a long time. This is a 4.5. I haven't had custard style like this in a long time. It even beats my old favorite, Carvel, as recently it seems Carvel might have changed their recipe. Vanilla and chocolate soft serve had the best texture ever - very airy and creamy. Good flavor. Also tried their hard ice cream which was pretty excellent. Liked that the daughter here makes all the ice cream -- her parents were the original owners. How cool! Yum, yum, yum. I love Rich's II. It's right next to Island Cafe (look for the Coldwell Bank sign before the strip mall) and even if I'm stuffed from Island, I love to go to Rich's. Ok, first, Tuesdays and Thursdays are buy-one-get-one on their Gelatto. So, definitely get that. It's water ice layered with frozen yogurt and so yummy! They also have a ton of flurry varieties and I think their prices are a little high for flurries (starting at $5ish) but they have some pretty tempting signs advertising them inside. They also have frozen desserts a la Dairy Queen such as ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes, and some pretty sinful looking cookie dough bars. The ice cream has normal and cool varieties and is delicious. They have old fashion vanilla next to key lime pie and cotton candy (though not the sickeningly sweet kind, something really delicious!). The servers are friendly and efficient. They have numbers to make it more orderly even when it's crowded. I had the above mentioned cotton candy and key lime pie in a cone. Their prices are typical for the shore but this was a huge size small! The girl was shaking a little holding it! We got two smalls (two flavors in a small is 0.56 extra) and a milk shake for $13. I like strawberry sundaes but prefer the syrup over the actual strawberries. So I do not understand when I ask the girl to put mostly syrup and few strawberries they do exactly the opposite ! Is this THAT difficult to understand ? I think they try to go too fast with the summer crowds. I tried one Sunday nite June 30th - tons of strawberries and virtually NO strawberry syrup at all ! I don't get it ! Sometimes they actually get it correct but I feel for $6.00 per sundae it should always be correct. Oh well. read more

Used to be our go-to for the occasional ice cream splurge. Ice cream isn't as good as it used to be and the staff wasn't nearly as friendly and helpful the last few times we were there. In fact, we asked for a simple allergy-friendly accommodation that they had always happily honored in the past (grabbing sprinkles from the bigger bin and not the small cup near the peanuts and other non-safe items for a member of our party) and they not only refused to make the accommodation, they were quite rude about it. Won't go back there again. There are other places that not only offer better ice cream, they go above and beyond to accommodate our allergies. Listen, we understand that not every place can make allergy-friendly accomodations and that's fine. Just don't be rude about it. read more
