Been wantin' to write this piece for a while actually...... If you're lookin' to make some extra dough, plannin' on becomin' the next big superstar in hollywood, or just want to get paid to sit on your ass all day than look no farther.... Cause a life as a background extra is just around the corner! I've been with Jeff Olan castin' since about early Sept 2010. They were the first people that I worked with and have had much success with them thus far that is why I'm excited to Boast. ***If you're new to bein' an extra or thinkin' about signnin' up with them. Just take the plunge. It's a one time fee of $25 bones. You take a headshot and you're in their data base. You call their number and you see what's available and if the producers like their look they will book. It's pretty self-explanatory. Castin' agents: Jeff Olan, Ryan, Milton, Gil, and Vera.. Each individual has their unique style on the phone but Shows: Greys Anatomy, Private Practice, Medium, and Hard times of RJ Berger... (They occasionally have other projects but this is the most consistent. I feel that as an individual of color (Someone who isn't white) especially in Hollyweird can be very very discouraging at times. If you notice on set... The cast and crew is very pre-dominating white. However, you can't let that stop you from achieving your dreams. I feel that through all the casting agents and and calling services Jeff Olan is definitely the most friendly and in terms of caterin to individuals who aren't white such as myself and others. Also, not to knock other places such as Sandi Alessi and Central which are good. But the success rate is just so much harder to get booked and like everything they do pick a lot of favorites. So you gotta try your luck. ***I've gotten 2 sag vouchers from them and even Jeff Olan often times leaves things on the line and shows up on set to see how his extras are doing. In addition, he often leaves some heart-felt messages about life which can be cheesy but I do appreciate the sentiment.... So whether you're tryin' to break into actin' or doing this as a part time gig. If you're lookin' for a place to start I'd suggest Jeff Olan. This was the 3rd place I tried of the 7 I have used/still work with depending on what your looking to get out of it, you wont really find a friendlier staff , they cross promote for many things. You have to call the work line to see what they are looking for they update it accordingly. They put me to work immiedately when I was just looking to test the waters and I actually landed some pretty fun things. Best background casting company in town as far as I'm concerned. They're the one company that is consistently respectful towards me. No one else, that I've worked with, comes close. I am sorry I was late, without using excuses I apologize to the people who had to wait for me... for the people reading and must know, I wasn't expecting such heavy traffic as it unexpectedly turned out to be a rainy morning...... but rating you 1 star for being so rude and angry about my tardy... there are worse things in life than being late, calm down and practice some patience. Just saw an episode of Black Mirror about an actress who destroyed her life because she was supposed to be a brides maid and got a decimal rating score too low to get on the flight to the wedding and ended up going crazy and put in jail instead... umm, not blaming you changing my role on "the singles table" to waitress from first having me booked as a brides maid, don't think you have much control over my life more than I do, just don't blame me for the one star rating I left you either :) Hope you have a nice day! read more

I had been following Jeff Olan Casting for about the last 4 years on Facebook. I saw a lot of posts requesting currents registrants to update their information, but never a request for new talent to sign up. I finally got a request from Kirsten to come into their office and sign up along with my wife. We went to their office in Sherman Oaks (nothing real fancy). We arrived for our appointment a little early, no problem. We filled out the registration forms, had our pictures taken and within 20 minutes we were on our way home. Kirsten made the process easy and was very accommodating. We are looking forward to working with Jeff Olan Casting in the future. read more

What to say about Jeff Olan? He is one of the best in the business. He has heart and shows a great understanding of what extras go through. He and Gil are very involved with their productions, showing up on set, and they seem to know how to deal with any problems. Once there was a problem on a smaller budget production, but he made sure extras were paid-- he went the extra mile. On the casting side, he gets quality talent, actors doing national commercials, guest star roles, etc. One of the productions he cast was featured in the LA Times, with many photos of extras, to the title 'dapper extras'. On the philanthropy side-- he is an actor and gives helpful advice and encouragement to aspiring actors. He was involved for many years with an annual film festival, which gave actors and directors a chance to be seen and get noticed. His casting service is really well-run. If you are cast, you are often given a chance to confirm with your call-in service. That's something few c.d.s will do. The reason why I don't give 5 stars is I'd like to see online submitting. Nobody likes to tell a casting director they are unavailable. For extras availability is always changing. Sometimes you submit for something earlier in the day, only to get booked before the c.d. can get back to you. Having a way to communicate your availability online would be very useful. Also, extras could add specialty photos and a small bio. Finally, if you're not getting booked, don't worry. Keep trying. It takes time. Once they get to know you and you develop some rapport, you will get more opportunities. If you aren't registered yet, new registration does open up from time to time. If it does open up, seize the opportunity. read more

How can this office have but one review? I am shocked and appalled.. Jeff & Gill & company are running a very straightforward show and a pretty nice one if you ask me. I used to work for Jeff regularly when his assistant Gus was alive. Then Gus died and my bookings went down 70%, then Covid came along and now my bookings are down 100%. In other words, I haven't been cast for over 2 years and they have this new way now of you need to submit a picture in "costume/wardrobe" before your booked. I never heard of such a rig-a-ma-role. Casting agents have computers; they used to take a" head and/or body shot" with "business and/or or business casual" and you'd call and they'd see your overall look and book you. What's with this have to submit a picture in wardrobe? Don't "sets" have wardrobe anymore? What about hair & makeup? Extras are at the bottom of the pay scale and its burdensome to have to take on the work of a casting office, especially since we are not getting paid for it. The profession offices have the pictures, the computers to store it in, and it is their job to do so; after all, they get paid to be in that office, (we don't) so I feel its imposing extra work on our "extra work" doing their work and then very likely not getting booked on top of that! It is upsetting because many "extras" don't have computers, or are not technically savvy enough to operate the complexity of all that, or have little flip-phones that are minus certain aspects that smart phones have and it creates an unbalance and disenfranchises gobs of extra talent, especially the older extra. I'm beginning to think its time to hang up my wardrobe as there seems to be no more work for this old pro...time to retire and leave California??? read more

One of the best! Nobody ever has to confirm (at least I don't think they do), just listen to details on the line to call. They know what they're talking about when they give detailed instructions on the lines when looking to book actors, it makes it easier and faster and less confusing. Hands down one of the best casting companies around, I would of put 5 stars but the 4 is just because they rarely have new member registration but I figure it's because they want to get the people already registered a chance to work. I've worked on hit tv shows, movies and the staff is so friendly. It's great how Jeff Olan will even call if you're booked. The best casting office in town. They treat everyone with respect. I've never heard of them disrespecting anyone. Super fair. If you are non-union of course you'll work more. Union people need to understand that most of the union slots go to the stand-ins on the shows. Take it up with SAG-Aftra union not with any casting office. Some kind of problem with their payroll department, called onscreen payroll, a man their named Brian, it took 2 months to get my paycheck, which was 2 hours less than it should have been He Mailed it twice, never came, I finally drove there and picked it up, and he claims it's been happening a lot and someone is stealing the checks from mailboxes Um no, I'm on set now and another lady says it's been 4 months and she hasn't gotten hers And why do I need my social security card for every single new show? I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Olan at an independent film festival in which I was host and moderator. He encouraged me to register with his agency. Although he seemed like a nice fellow, I was reluctant to sign-up to do extra work. After all, I've had numerous speaking and principal roles in commercials and corporate videos. I had also just wrapped an indi-sci-fi movie in which I had a lead role. In other words, I was "above" it. But I decided "what would it hurt?" and I went to his office and signed-up. It was a pleasant experience. His office has a lighthearted atmosphere, with both Jeff and his staff being friendly and helpful. Within a few days of signing-up I called into his "male work line" and found that my "type" (18-55 year old male) was needed for a scene on the show "Grey's Anatomy". I worked at ABC Prospect Studios and was a background extra in a hospital scene, playing a visitor. Since that time, over the last 3-4 years, I have worked about 5-6 times at the same location. I have always had a pleasant experience, being treated with respect and courtesy. (Which is worth mentioning to anyone who has ever done extra work. Some sets treat extras like cattle.) All-in-all, I had a nice time working on "Grey's Anatomy" through Jeff Olan Casting, and would recommend his agency to anyone seeking work as a Hollywood extra. Jeff Olan is one of the few human beings left in Hollywood. He treats background talent like real people. To them, you have a name. Unlike other casting agencies that hire you, don't know who you are, or care , they have a hotline you can call to make yourself available for work on a daily basis. Jeff Olan came out himself to greet talent waiting in line to register. He offered advice to everyone on how to get ahead and lay the ground rules for coming across as a professional to clients and keeping the agency's good standing. He makes you feel like you are a part of the team as does his staff. Nobody else that I know of does that. read more

I've have never been able to be booked with this company. I get either no call back or they answer the main line when I call and I get told " the casting director can't use you or doesn't want you." Every job they have turned me down for, my booking agency has booked me for without me even asking. I was even recalled for 4 days on a set by the casting director who thanked my booking agency for sending me. The same job Jeff Olan said I wasn't right for and the casting director didn't want me for. Hmmmm.......I don't think so. read more
