I was a repeat customer until recently. The so-called owner was very arrogant, unprofessional, and downright nasty. He didn't like the fact that I questioned him about new charges I was told I would have to pay for looking into the original issue I brought my vehicle in for just a couple of days prior. I said to him that I had just paid almost $1700 for looking into this issue along with repairs for other services the diagnostic revealed needed to be done and I didn't understand why I had to pay again and the original issue was never resolved. I am sure the average person would question paying additional money but I guess I'm not average because it insulted him. I understand if I needed to pay additional money for parts or the labor for actually getting the issue fix, but I was asked to pay for the tech to look into the same issue I just paid him to look into a few days prior. In fact, the same day I went to pick up my car, I had to turn around before I got home and bring it back for the same issue. After immediately bringing it back the technician (Shaun who was very nice and helpful) stated he would need more time to look into it and to bring it back the next week because they are closed on weekends. Well after I brought it back on Monday of the next week, I questioned Mr. Owner, (Alex ) and he sat erect in his chair and with a raised tone of voice began to read very aggressively from the computer in front of him spewing a list of services that had been done on my car saying none of them had anything to do with what I was currently there for. He stated that he didn't appreciate my insinuating his business did something wrong and that I needed to leave! I said to him I understood what he was saying but I didn't appreciate his delivery and his business may not have a successful future if he speaks to customers in this manner. He became indignant and stated "he didn't need my business and that he had several successful businesses and as the owner he could do and say anything he wants to and there's the door you can leave !" I want Alex to know that my business/$1600 may not mean anything to him but it was a huge sacrifice for me to pay and if future customers are treated in such a way, those dollars or lack of dollars add up and customer retention can make or break a business. So now I am out of lots of money and still can't see to drive after dark because of an electrical issue causing my headlight bulbs to blow out has not been fixed. So I would think twice about taking your vehicle here or you may end up spending lots of money and then told you aren't valued as a customer and to get out of the establishment like I was told to. read more

Avoid these SCAM artists at all costs. I purchased a vehicle from them that the entire time the person selling it"Zeke" talked up how the entire engine was rebuilt and done 100% correctly. We paid cash for the vehicle and it didnt even last the 30 days of the temp tag. Having moved 2 hrs out of columbia I had to wait till I could have the vehicle diagnosed and show them that the problem was from the faulty engine rebuild. Their solution to doing crappy work was to offer to fix it for another 2500$. There is no way I would pay the same person that did it wrong the first time to do it again for more money! RUN to ANY other mechanic to have your car worked on, they cant even stand behind their work read more

Its going to be tough to say enough nice things in this review to justify how much George and everyone at My Mechanic helped us. My wife and I were on a cross country road trip in a 1976 GMC Motorhome from San Diego. We had been chasing around an intermittent problem ever since we left. We were on the move so I had been mostly trouble shooting it myself with the occasional quick stop by a mechanic. Needless to say it wasnt resolved for our entire journey from SD to NJ even after changing over the entire fuel system bit by bit. When it was time to turn it around and head back West I was confident everything was fixed after a two week stay in NJ. Turns out I was wrong and we found ourselves in Columbia, SC fresh out of ideas and patience. Then we found George. He was about the 15th shop I had called in town and only the 2nd to even be willing to work on our rig. The only other one said I they couldnt even start looking at it for 10 days. George told me to bring it on down and they could look at it the same day. Everyone there was friendly and knowledgeable even about the odd spaceship I had brought them. A few days later I had a rebuilt carb and I was on my way. We made it to Augusta, GA only to find out our issue again hadnt been resolved. And this is where George and everyone at My Mechanic showed they not only know cars but they also know how to run a business. As a business owner myself I know all too well its times like this that make or break you. My wife and I are pretty easy going and werent going to fuss over this not being resolved (after all I had already tried about 20 other solutions and hadnt fixed it myself). We did however want to get back home after 6 weeks on the road. When I called and spoke with George he was proactive about everything. Said I could take it to someone where I was and he would pay for repairs if he missed something. The other option was to come back to Columbia and give him another shot. He promised to take care of me if I chose this and wanted another shot at fixing it so back we went. The real issue here was the car would sputter like it was running out of gas after about 100 miles or so. We hatched plan to drive back to Columbia and have someone hop in the RV with us to drive it as long as it took to duplicate the problem. We had one of his mechanics doing laps around Columbia for at least an hour. At one point I was convinced it wasnt going to do it while the mechanic was with us and was worried we were away for too long. He encouraged us to keep driving and said George is completely ok no matter how long it takes. A few miles later I was able to duplicated it and he sprung into action. After some tinkering he was confident something was going on in the distributor after getting to a certain temp. We headed back to the shop and a few days later we were on the road again with a new distributor. FINALLY we drove from Columbia back to SD with some stops along the way but without any other RV issues. As I said, my wife and I are not pushy so when it came time to settle up I was willing to pay whatever the cost. George absolutely insisted we get a more than fair discount and he has forever locked himself in as My Mechanic even if he is completely across the country. Even though their shop is large, it's like a tiny little place where you're working with the owners and they know you when you walk in. We don't have the best cars in the world, but they're always willing to help us figure out what HAS to be fixed right now, and what might wait for a bit until we can afford it. And they never do lots of unnecessary repairs. This week my wife's car started running really rough, and I thought it would need a big tune-up or something before we left on vacation. They called me back, it was just a little vacuum hose that had fallen off. I was already to pay hundreds of dollars. I love these guys. read more

Please consider very carefully before using the shop. My first interactions with his shop were in fact very positive. However that has completely changed. I brought in a 1977 VW bug had parts ordered and had work promised to be done on the car. After sitting for quite a while I reached out to George the owner and was told that my car was not a priority because he had contract work from used car lots and that pays the bills. When I left a less-than-stellar review on Google based on this , he texted me once again to either remove the review or to remove my card from his premises. When my boyfriend reached out to him he was also told to come get the car he quote-unquote said he is not a "classic car toy shop" I strongly believe in freedom of speech and that is why I posted the review and refused to take the review down so we we removed the car this morning from the shop. I in fact have retained as well as my boyfriend all text messages and I'm willing to share with anyone because I did not want anyone to fall to the same predicament as I did. I warn you please do not take a classic car there . Furthermore because of the unprofessional text messages and how I was treated by the owner I would strongly advise anybody from taking the car to the shop. read more

I had extensive auto work done here. Lots of money spent on repairs. 1 month after they replaced the timing belt, the motor threw a rod. George wouldn't accept responsibility for this issue. Anyways $2,500 & no car. Would NOT recommend!! read more

We used My Mechanic to help get new tires on my wife's Jeep and it was a great experience. They were very accommodating to our time schedule and gave us a good deal on the tires and getting them mounted. We will use My Mechanic in the future in the future as it is hard to find a trust worthy shop that is fair with pricing. I was recommended the guys at My Mechanic by a friend. I've used them a lot since. Recently my Prius's hybrid battery went bad, the dealer said it'd take around $5000 to fix, the guys here found a battery and ordered it and the battery plus the work will be about half of that. ok. I would not even give one star but I had to, To be able to post. so I called George about my daughters mustang making a knocking noise. he tells me to bring it in for them to trouble shoot so I had my daughter bring down to me. after about two hrs. I get a call for George explaining he found the problem. so we scheduled for next day service not to mention I took the day off to get this issues resolved. so we drop the car off and he told me he needed 3-4 hrs. with the car no problem we left and came 5hrs. later and the car was still being worked on. I was told to walk to the back where George was at with the car and he tells me the parts that they changed did not fix the problem so he said I will work with you on the price since it did not fix the knocking issues so he wanted to keep the car a little longer to search the noise some more so I left once again and returned at 4:30pm the car was still being worked on. so after about 2hrs. more they come out and told me I have lifters tapping and this and that (which he told me at the beginning he thought that's what is was so they pulled the valve cover to check and it was not and the oil was clean no sludge at all ) but then 2hrs. later now the lifters are tapping. so I recommend that I just wait and bring the car back so he went back to the shop to put everything back together on the car and while he was doing so I asked Chris how much my bill was so I can go ahead and pay he told me the price which was the same price that I originally had after George told me he would work with me since what they did, did not fix my problem. Chris walks back to the shop and comes back and tells me George already worked with me on the labor... really ok so I paid the bill plus my daughter paid trouble shooting fee. for nothing the car is still the same and now the engine light is on which was not on prior to the visit yesterday 10/24/2018 read more

Awful. I'm hoping they did not permanently ruin my car. I have never complained about anyone publicly; I'm taking a chance now because maybe someone will see this and not go to them. After I spent almost $1400 on my car for various items: timing belt, water pump, tire alignment, oil change, charge of the ac; I noticed white smoke coming from my car when I would crank it. At first I thought nothing of it because what do I know, I spent all that money and they seemed so nice; I knew nothing about cars so I needed to trust the experts. My friend noticed the smoke still a few days after I had the work done and they were concerned because it was a considerable amount of white smoke. I brought the car back to My Mechanic and talked to Tony, a supervisor, who insisted his mechanic who worked on the car was one of the best and seemed offended I would suggest they did anything wrong. He took the car back and look at it for maybe 5 minutes after my insistence and then promptly brought the car back and said nothing was wrong. I believed him and left. I continued to notice the smoke. I checked the oil and it did not seem empty, so I thought it was fine. My friends continued to be concerned because of the continued smoke and insisted I bring the car back again. I brought it back again and they continued to insist nothing was wrong and the Owner, George was there this time, and he spoke somewhat snarky towards me. I can understand being defensive, but I spent a lot of money on my car, and do not have money to throw around. George, and his Co-owner did, however manage to reassure me that my car was fine and the smoke would dissipate. The smoke did finally stop appearing a few weeks later. I had a friend check the oil recently, about a month to two months after my work was done at My Mechanic. My friend freaked out. First, let me say my car was not hot. It had been sitting for about 4 hours. The car's oil was wayyyyyy over filled. There is apparently a L notch and F notch. The F was the top notch, which stands for full according to the owner's manual. The car's oil line went about 3-4 centimeters over the F notch. I research online low and behold if you overfill the oil it can blow white smoke. Now, I really don't want to say anything was intentionally done wrong here. I really liked My Mechanic and George initially. I just want others to know so they don't make the same mistake I did. read more

If you want to be scam by these guys at My Mechanic in West Columbia SC. Then go there. Here how the scam works, no matter what's wrong with your car, they will take 1 hour or more supposedly working on your car then they will come and tell you a list of things that are wrong with your car and to fix it, they are going to charge you a ridiculous price but here is the trick, if you don't fix it because the ridiculous price then they will charge you a diagnostic fee of $79 for not doing nothing. Then when you take it to another mechanic most likely all the stuff that they said is wrong , is not or it won't hurt the car after years of used. $79 x 20 people a day that paid the fee, George just made $1,580 for doing nothing. been using this place since it opened. USED to be good and fair - but for the past 2 years of so it has been a total rip off!!! Had a PCM replaced in my car 2 years ago - found out it was used and still cost me over $800 parts and labor. Getting a NEW one installed - parts a labor with a life time warrenty for $788. The used one George installed had a year warrenty. Also the timing belt he wanted a little over $1100 to replace I got done another place of under $600. Last time my car was there it took them almost 3 days to troubleshoot and repair it - and I had to call to find out the status daily - never got a call from them. Radio / stereo in car has not worked since they did electrical repair to car either. read more
