Horrible experience with Jefferson Lines. Taking a bus from Maple Grove to La Crosse, WI and my bus was cancelled without any heads up. 5 minutes before my bus was supposed to depart, I got an email from Greyhound saying there has been a change in my trip. They gave me a number to call, and then Greyhound would not do anything for me or give me any information, except to call Jefferson Lines. I call Jefferson Lines and they tell me my trip was cancelled at 5:30 AM and they can not refund me. I was left stranded without a ride at the bus station. They did not even tell me why the bus was cancelled. Very disappointed in Jefferson Lines customer service as well as the way they run this company. bus was 55 minutes late, bus driver wouldnt let anyone take on their carry on bags because the ride was "too full". got on the bus and about half of the riders had their bags, the overhead storage was completely empty. was told by the driver "if you bring your bag on I will leave you here." someone was told off when they asked if they could keep their bag in their lap. If i could give no star i would. This place has the worst customer service that I've ever experienced in my whole life. I called customer service to ask questions about purchasing a ticket for a minor. I was told i can purchase from another vendor since they don't have a station in that city. We purchase the tickets from the other vendor and when the day came, the bus driver wouldnt let my brother come into the bus and yelled at my uncle to stay behind the door and closed the bus door and drove off. I called Jefferson line to complain and wanted the issue to be escalated because they lied to me. Customer service said they would email all the info to their manager since it was a weekend. After 5 days past no follow up call, so i called customer service. I explained to the customer service manager the whole situation and wanted my issue to be resolved. Only thing she said was "i took 2 days off and we are short on staff, and she will call me back." I was like im angry cause i called ur company to make sure my brother can come join us for the holiday season and ur not looking or taking my issue serious. She even said i was threatening her, even when she was the one raising her voice at me and not taking my concerns seriously. I exclaimed to her that i needed an answer today. She wanted to listen to the recordings before getting back at me. Which i was fine with.. 4 hours later she tells me her system doesnt work and to call the other vendor for a refund. It's the lack of accountability and communication for me. My mother traveled to Minnesota for the Christmas and New Year holiday and was expected to return home via bus yesterday. Minnesota has freezing temps and we waited for the bus three days in a row and it never showed up in Saint Cloud. Each time we drove back to Minneapolis to reroute her ticket for another day and paid an additional $20.00 to do so when it wasn't even our fault the bus didn't show. Then one day the bus finally comes 20 mins late and takes my mother to Minneapolis so she can transfer for her next bus which was ultimately canceled with no reason and no refund for her ticket. This past week they've been making a profit of collecting money and rerouting her ticket, knowing that the bus wasn't running. It's really messed up and I honestly do not recommend this bus line. You try calling to speak to someone and you wait on hold for 15 plus minutes only to get a voicemail in which no one returns your call. It's inhumane how they treat their consumers. There's urine all over the floor at the Minneapolis station. Someone needs to look into this because it's wrong. They won't refund my mothers ticket so she can't take another mode of transportation and they don't care that the bus is not running. They just take peoples money and print out useless tickets. Ok well the saying goes you get what you pay for. Ticket was affordable $25 one way from Rochester MN to Madison WI. The bus has more legroom than Badger or Amtrak. Avoid using the bathroom because it is literally a port a John on a bus... no flushing mechanism like others. The ride is not direct and is very bumpy... reminds me of bus transport in a city with the slinky busses. But, it gets me from point A to point B . Also plus is they have security cameras on the bus which. is good as long as they work! I would suggest Badger Bus you pay twice as much but, speed, and a smooth ride can't be beat. Have taken public transport in over 30 countries (places like Russia & Mongolia) and this is by far the worst company I've ever travelled with. Ridiculous delays, cancellations, terrible customer service & no refunds even if your bus breaks down. My bus broke down, was 7 hours late, missed my connection so was out $160. 0 STARZ DONT BOOK THEM! My mother is in hospital dying . I should have left three days ago but they claim they never received payment but they system won't accept my payment. The asked me to get a conformation from my bank saying the sent payment so I give them the conformation number by my bank. They ask me for my card info and promise to get me on another bus. That was 2 days ago and 6 busses have left this state that I could have been on. Literally my bank says all they have to do is accept the payment and get me a new ticket to see my mom in the hospital . Instead they are not helping not returning my calls,emails ,not finding a resolution or keeping me updated throughout the process. I rode the Jefferson Lines bus from Albert Lea, Minnesota to Coffeyville, Kansas. That's about a 12 hour trip. The bus was not overly full but definitely had people on it. We stopped periodically to pick up/drop off and for breaks. We had about a 2 hour break in Kansas City to clean the bus and refuel it. Thanks to read construction, we were a little late getting to our destination but not so late as to be annoying. I enjoyed the trip, watching the countryside in Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas. I had looked at flying for the same trip but by the time I flew from Minneapolis to Chicago to Tulsa and then have someone come to pick me us, Jefferson Lines was a better choice. This review pertains specifically to Jefferson's "Package Express" service. I strong advise AGAINST using this company's service. Here's why: I found out on August 17th that the packages I dropped on August 4th have not even left the drop-off point. When I call their customer service number, it does not give you an option to speak to or leave a voice mail message to talk with a customer service agent. Rather, the automated messaging instructs you to 'press zero' to leave a message. When you do this, it simply routes you back to the beginning of the previous message (so you get caught in an endless loop of not being able to get a hold of anyone to get help). Do yourself a favor and spend a couple extra bucks to send your packages via Fed Ex or UPS!! read more

I purchased a ticket for my son to travel from the University of Minnesota to our home in Madison, Wisconsin. He waited at the bus stop, no bus showed. A voicemail was left on our landline in Madison saying the bus had been cancelled. No explanation why. No other buses were running that day and our son needed to be in Madison by that evening, so rescheduling wasn't an option. My wife and I had to take off work to drive to Minneapolis to get him, more than 8 hours round trip, a major inconvenience not to mention an additional expense. Jefferson Lines refused to refund the fare. Maybe they have the legal right but it's a shoddy, inconsiderate and unethical business practice. Not just under it when it turned red but ran through it with cars trying to go through it. That's not safe practices and could've killed someone. Jefferson Lines is one of the most miserable, unacceptable excuses for a bus company that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Use Badger Bus. Use Greyhound. Use Megabus. But whatever you do, DO NOT use Jefferson! The prices are not much lower than any other bus in the area, and you will sorely regret it if you take them in order to save yourself $20 on another line. My horror story with Jefferson begins at Kaufman Union, where the bus was supposedly going to pick my girlfriend up to meet me back in Madison. An hour after she should have already left, she calls me to tell me that the bus never showed up. Thinking that this might have been a fluke, or that she was late, she called Jefferson Lines and arranged to catch the next bus the next day. The next day came, and to avoid making the same mistake twice, she showed up at the bus stop an hour early. Two Jefferson Lines buses came by at random times, both drivers claiming that they were not passing through Madison or transferring to a bus that did. After speaking with both drivers as well as a dispatcher on the phone, it became apparent that once again, the bus had not arrived at all. My girlfriend and another passenger called in to complain, and were told that the bus "would arrive soon" and that they should wait an hour before calling back. An hour passed, no bus showed up. So they called Jefferson again, to which the dispatcher responded that the bus had "definitely shown up" and that they were both late and were lying about not seeing the bus to Madison. At this point, I asked my girlfriend to give it up and request a refund. We were referred to a customer complaints line which did not exist. Every time I tried to call Jefferson's offices about this, everybody I talked to would redirect me to dead lines or just hang up on me. I attempted to get to the mystery customer service line through Jefferson's automated system, only to be repeatedly directed to an answering machine. After calling several times throughout the day with no success, I left them a detailed message with my name and number. About a month has passed since then, and I have yet to hear back from them. You have been warned. We did not get the ride I paid for, nor any compensation for it. If you spend $50 on a ticket for Jefferson Lines, be prepared to never see that money again. read more

Took it from Minneapolis to Des Moines because Megabus doesn't serve that route, and I needed to get to Omaha without spending an arm and a leg. Didn't get a Rocket Rider bus, but did find an outlet. They're scarce, but find-able. The bus was under half full, so I got a row to myself. Bus stopped once for a few minutes, and then I was in Des Moines. Note, however, that while the early-morning bus stops in Des Moines about 4 AM, the station doesn't open until 5 AM. Not cool. The ride was smooth, the bus was clean, and I got there on time and unharmed. What more can you ask for? Though most of their "milk runs" around Minnesota are much more expensive than paying for gas when driving alone. That doesn't make sense to me...shouldn't it be roughly the same price as driving alone, if not a little bit cheaper? read more

Last week, I had occasion to ride Jefferson Lines from Amtrak in Williston, ND to Bozeman/Belgrade, MT, by way of a bus change in Billings, MT. Then, a return trip of Bozeman/Belgrade to Billings, with a bus-change to Amtrak in Minot, ND. I STRONGLY suggest that Amtrak delete Jefferson Lines as its contracted bus-link to off-track cities. This was an utterly miserable experience. On all four legs of my bus trip, the legroom was cramped, cramped, CRAMPED - worse than economy airline travel. Greyhound buses are luxurious by comparison. Still, the drivers on the Billings-to-Belgrade (a man) and the subsequent Belgrade-to-Billings (a lady) trips were fine. In contrast, the driver who drove both the Williston-to-Billings and Billings-to-Minot legs - who identified himself as "Charlie P." - made those rides horrendous experiences. On the first leg (westbound), he sat idly by while a huge, slovenly male passenger spent the entire nighttime trip stretching his legs across the aisle, and leaning across the aisle, kicking and leaning against me and the passenger in front of me. Despite the near uproar that this created (just 6 or 7 rows behind the driver), he sat meekly (or lazily) in his seat, doing nothing to control or restrain the offending rider. (He later acknowledged hearing the ruckus, yet took no action on behalf of the victimized passengers.) On the return (eastbound) trip, while waiting to board the Billings bus for Minot, I saw him walk over to my already-loaded suitcase and cross-out the destination-code on my luggage tag. I asked him, "I'm going to Minot, and that's my bag; is that going to Minot, too?" Instead of simply saying "yeah, no problem", he put up his hands and bellowed "UP ON THE CURB!" and walked away. I stepped onto the curb and said "Sir - I just want to confirm that my bag is going to Minot." He turned and shouted "I won't discuss anything till you're up on the curb!" I said "I AM on the curb! Can you just confirm that my bag is going with me to Minot?" Again, instead of simply saying "yes", he snidely replied that "if it's on the bus, it's going where it's supposed to go." Minutes later, prior to boarding, "Charlie P." approached the line of passengers waiting to board (every single one of us standing up on the curb) and lectured us for fully two minutes on how he insisted that we all stand on the curb until he instructed us to board. We all looked quizzically at each other, and at our dutifully curb-bound feet, as the driver drilled us to do exactly what we all were already doing. (Sleeping on the cramped, nighttime ride was made impossible by the driver's incessant stand-up comedy routine on the P.A. system.) A truly miserable experience. Take Greyhound - or any other bus line - before you take Jefferson Lines. read more

I would've given this company zero stars if I could. They will cancel buses without giving PAYING customers any notification. Then, they will refuse to give PAYING customers refunds for their tickets that they never used. Customer service is absolutely useless, they will just tell you to fill out an online form that could take up to 6 weeks to process after keeping you on hold forever. I've worked in customer service for many years, and I NEVER take time out my day to write reviews like this. But the service provided by this company is the worst I've ever seen. Took the bus from Mpls.to Kansas City in February - no heat for 8.5 hours! In fact, cold air was blowing from the vents all night -- no one could sleep, people were shivering, I am sure riders are now sick. I was also told that this was not the first time. In addition, the bus company did nothing to help - no repairs, no replacement bus not any even any free hot coffee. Finally, I have tried to call the customer service line and speak to someone -- they have not called me back. No apology, no response, no nothing -- I have now filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and will go further if I need to. They took my wife's money ($130.00) at 4:30 the afternoon before, then cancelled the route the next morning, without any notification to her, even though they had her email. Wasted most of our day driving to the bus station 30 miles away and 30 miles back home after waiting almost an hour for a bus that never came. The excuse was poor road conditions. I checked NDDOT and MNDOT for road condition the morning of 3/15 and got normal driving conditions for both states. No notice, and NO REFUNDS. The bus was almost an hour late, in which time another bus for jefferson came by and that bus driver was snippy with someone just because they asked where the bus was heading to. When our bus finally did arrive, the bus driver told us to be quick and put all bags/backpacks in the under-storage area because the bus was "full". When I politely asked if it would be alright if I just kept my backpack in my lap because it had all my valuables in it, he said "You didnt listen to me, if you try and pull that with me, I will kick you off the bus and leave you behind." This upset me, but I was too scared of being left behind and not getting to go see my parents if I risked upsetting him. I am writing this as I am still on the bus because I am so overwhelmingly anxious that my valuables are going to be damaged or stolen. I just want to go home to my parents to get hugs and support because my mental health has taken a dip recently, and now im more shaken than ever. All other passengers on this bus who got on at different stops were allowed to bring multiple bags onto the bus, so Im very upset that I wasnt even allowed to have mine on my lap the whole time. DO NOT USE THIS BUS LINE! I bought a ticket and waited outside for 4 hours - bus never showed. I made many calls to their dispatch who lied and said the bus was near. Finally, they confessed and said the bus was chartered and they had no idea where it was. Here's the real kicker: no refund! I was passed around by customer service for weeks before someone told me I could only get online credit. That's what I want: online credit for a dysfunctional and incompetent bus company. The clerk at the Jefferson Line's counter was horrible. I don't know if he was having a bad day or if he's just rude on a daily basis. My sister asked him simple questions regarding the terminal and luggage tags and he went above and beyond to make us feel like incompetent human beings. read more

The driver was very rude. He doesn't answer questions, instead he replies back with questions. The bus didn't have wifi unlike advertised.

I have used Jefferson Lines and twice the driver left the station without me. There is no signage for Jefferson Lines at MSP so you have to track the bus down and the driver does nothing to indicate to passengers on the curb when they should board (before driving off). I have called the customer service line multiple times and each time the representative has been very rude. They have never offered refunds, in fact they have refused refunds when I have asked. The customer is definitely not a priority for this company. Apparently they have a monopoly. read more
