We have been here many, many times - every time we visit the Shenandoah Valley. Service has always been friendly, so I'm surprised about a comment below, though we tend to come mid afternoon so we can enjoy the view. I am obsessed with the Petite Manseng, but have discovered two other types I'm equally obsessed with now: Vidal Blanc and Viognier. I am no wine critic, but my description of these 3 would be that they are absolutely bursting with flavor. By far better than any other white wine on the planet, in my opinion. We always bring a couple bottles home. We have tried other wineries in the Shen Valley and they are nice, but in my opinion none of the other ones has as great wines, nor as great a view. I am happy they're expanding their food options, but they do allow you to bring outside food in. read more

Keeps deleting poor review to keep page looking nice.... We have tried Bluestone twice. Both times we were ignored and not helped by serves that were either in the back chatting, or knowlingly disregarded my husband and I. Bluestone Vineyard is gorgeous! Popped in on a midweek day off and we were lucky to be the only patrons drinking wine on a random Tuesday afternoon! We shared a flight, had a taste of the coders, enjoyed a warm mug of glüwhein, and took a couple of bottles to go. We loved the ambience of a fireplace and cozy seating, and lots of winery theme merch to peruse through. Our wine attendant was very pleasant and helpful. Love Bluestone! Bought 2 cases of wine for my son's wedding in Tennessee. We wanted a taste of home and it was a huge hit.

Total disappointment. A few of us had taken a bike ride the ending point was going to be Bluestone Vineyard, where we were planning on getting a couple of bottles of wine and unwinding after a long ride.. once we walked through the door, we realized there was a long line of people, and you could look around and see people were getting frustrated at that point the lady behind the counter. Said I'm the only person working today . (It was 1:30 pm )said she was sorry she was the only one working and that she would be a while getting to all of us, we waited a while longer but nothing was happening . With about 12 other people in front of us, there was no asking anyone questions. There was no tasting wine. There was nothing. It's such a waste of a beautiful vineyard . This place was so much fun. The person serving the 'tastes' of wine was so sweet and friendly, she made the experience fun. My only complaint was that there wye no chairs or stools where we were served. We had to stand up for the entire time. I actually liked just about every type of wine I tried. No bitter aftertaste with the dry reds. Great smooth flavors melded together. I ended up buying a few bottles to take home. Very fun. We attended the Mothers Day Brunch on Sunday, May 14, 2023....and were very disappointed! The buffet was the skimpiest. Only hot dish was quiche with chicken and quiche with vegetable (broccoli). Also crackers and a cheese dip. A platter of fruit. And finally a tray of store-bought desserts, including chocolate covered mini-donuts and torn apart muffins. Absent were other dishes on the menu. Very nice visit to a vineyard that has one of the nicest views I've seen in a while. Bluestone makes 5000 cases/year, and has about 18 acres of vines, plus they lease some vineyards and get grapes from elsewhere. So...not a big producer, but not a nano-producer by any means. I didn't get the backstory of the vineyard, but it was easy to tell why they picked this location. The hillside is very scenic, especially with the gorgeous home on top. The tasting room is small (actually in the owner's basement...but a wonderful basement!), but that should change once the new tasting room is ready (which, sadly, is at the bottom of the hill). Several tasting options are available; I did the Reserve Reds. What struck me was how well aged the reds are; all were 2013 or 2014 vintages. Not only that, but Bluestone tends to keep their reds in barrel longer than most places, at around 20 months. This is my style of red! What I tried: 2015 Wilton White (Viognier): Fermented in acacia wood. Amazing woody nose that reminded me of a Chardonnay with a long time in new French Oak. I was shocked to learn this was a Viognier; nearly everywhere else, they tend to have an overpowering honeysuckle nose. But the nose was wonderful and the wine was very soft. Best Viognier I've had in a while! 2015 Petit Manseng: The nose was sugary but the palate was not. Tropical fruit notes, and I suspect high acid. 2015 Chambourcin: Fruity; not bad but not a repeat for me. 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon: Very red fruit forward. 2013 Houndstooth red blend: Smokey, with a black cherry finish. Nice. 2014 Petit Verdot: Some bite but not overwhelming, like some PVs can be. 2013 Cadenza (red blend): The word is a musical term for improvisation, the wine maker changes this blend up all the time, so this blend could be dramatically different next year. Stopped in on Saturday, wanted to do some tasting. First time here. Staff was rude in how they handled wearing mask. We did go back to car an get them. Was told no tasting or purchasing by glass when we came back in only bottle sales. They were rude In relaying this info, as if we were stupid for asking. Should have left then. Instead we purchased a bottle an they led us to a table. The table was in direct sunlight. We saw a spot on the hill that was open and in the shade. Asked if we could sit there. I will NEVER do business with Bluestone Vineyards again. I held my wedding there in April, which is supposed to be a once in a lifetime event. Jackie is incredibly unprofessional and will not help you in any way. Not only that, but the bar tenders were asking my guests for phone numbers, which is completely unprofessional. I'd like to mention that DeAnne had nothing to do with this. She was the only bright spot in this nightmare of an experience. Jackie felt I asked too many questions and made that very clear. We went for a meet and greet with my mother in law and my husband to look at the centerpieces I had put together, to make sure they would look okay on the tables. First, we showed up and she had no tables set up to put the center pieces on, knowing that's what we were coming to do. So we had to wait on that. Second, my mother in law had asked politely if we could put different center pieces out for the rehearsal dinner. Prior to this conversation, I had spoken with Jackie and asked if we could just sit outside and eat on the patio. We would bring plastic table clothes and trash bags. We wanted to eat pizza and chips, which is super simple and easy to clean. I had not had an opportunity to speak with my mother in law yet, so she just asked Jackie if that was okay. I just explained no, that if we wanted to do centerpieces and other things, we would need to pay to have it, because that would require more work for the venue; which was completely true and was informative to my mother in law. That was the only time I mentioned money, that was it. I called to apologize (while I was in a nail salon full of about 20 people, so 20 witnesses can attest to how she spoke to me) because she said she was "done" with me and didn't want to deal with me anymore. She said that I asked too many questions and needed too much from her and that I kept asking for free things. She said my mother in law was rude to her about wanting to pay for the rehearsal. She said that her and her staff had a BETTING pools going on, for how many times I would reach out to her before my actual event. She didn't want to deal with me, that she had never had a bride that was so needy and asked so many questions. She said I was too much and that I wasn't worth the time or money I had paid. Let's say that's true, even if I did contact her too many times. That is extremely inappropriate and I would NEVER in my life talk to a paying customer like that. I have run many events for 300+ people and I would never speak to someone like that. I apologized profusely on the phone and said I didn't mean to offend her. That I thought the questions I had asked, were all things she would want to know, or be aware of. You can ask the 20 other people sitting in the room, I probably said sorry 20+ times in this conversation. I was absolutely nothing other than polite to her and she absolutely berated me. My mother in law only asked 1 time about the rehearsal dinner and I just explained to her why we couldn't do center pieces and extra things. That was the only time she even address Jackie about anything, and she wasn't rude, she asked a question. If you know my mother in law (and half of Harrisonburg does), you'd know she's the nicest person you've ever met. She would never intentionally try to offend someone, it's just not in her nature. The only 2 things I mentioned about being "free," was the rehearsal (which required 0 effort on her part and the chairs and tables were already set up outside, they leave them up 24/7) and the wine that they require you to buy in order to host an event at her venue. Now keep in mind, I didn't ask for the wine for free. At the beginning, I explained, I would like to pay the entire sum of the event. So $4,000+ at one time, so we could just be done with the cost. All the questions I asked were things that I had no way of knowing without talking to her. It was things like, can I have fake flowers. I understood it was a vineyard and didn't want to ruin anything by having fake flowers in their yard. I asked about staking Sheppard hooks in the ground, which I thought was courteous, because again, I didn't want to ruin the yard. I asked about how many chairs they would put in each row, and how many seats they could fit at each table, so we knew how to seat people. So she gave us a total and I told her that was to include all the wine. Well, she comes back a few months before the wedding (keep in mind, I booked the venue almost a year in advance) and she was asking for us to pay our remaining balance. I asked what balance since we paid the entire thing upfront. She said we had to pay for tax on the wine. I reminded her that we had already paid for all the wine at the beginning and she said, no not the tax. So apparently when you ask to pay for everything, she doesn't include everything. So I told her I would pay for the tax of the wine, but that it wasn't good practice for her to do this and that I found it slightly annoying to read more

Highly recommend! For years my fiancé and I have traveled from NYC to visit Harrisonburg multiple times simply to visit this vineyard. About a year ago we made the decision to get married here - and we will be doing just that in 26 days! A tasting here is inexpensive and worth it. Be sure to try the Crooked and Weedy - it's a sweeter red that is delicious. The staff is attentive - we've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to have a tasting started. We always go to the Cheese Place in the Dayton market prior to visiting to be prepared with snacks once we finish our tasting and buy a few bottles of wine. Blue stone has the perfect backdrop for a beautiful sunset while enjoying a nice glass of wine. I've been here in the summer but my most recent visit on a warmer winter day was just perfect! The fire pits had just enough warmth to make sitting out in the patio enjoyable. The service in the tasting room is excellent! Staff are attentive, knowledgeable and helpful in making informed wine choices for a novice wine drinker, like myself. Bluestone opened in April 2011 and is a nice find between Harrisonburg and Staunton, surrounded by mountains, cow pastures, vineyards and cornfields. This area of Virginia is different from the rest of the state - the Shenandoah Valley has unique, rich soil and the elevations allow for unusual (for Virginia) varietals like Pinot Noir, Riesling and Gewürtztraminer. These are wines that the Finger Lakes and the Pacific Northwest do well, but Virginia? Bluestone currently offers five whites and two reds. All whites are crisp and refreshing--Vidal Blanc, Chadonnay, Viognier, Traminette and a slightly sweet table white called Beau (named after their golden retriever). All were served chilled to the max for the 95+ degree day we visited. The two reds (more are coming) are a Cab Franc and Cab Sauv - both were a bit on the watery side. This place excels with its whites. The tasting room is a little small and is what we commonly call a "Falcon Crest" type tasting room. Long story....... Amazing view, friendly staff, and good wine-- what else can you ask for? We visited here during our weekend trip to Harrisonburg and we were glad that we did! Such a relaxing place to be in and it is not as crowded as the wineries I have been to. We did the tasting-- you have a choice between the reds, whites, reserve, and the sweet wines. My husband did the sweet and I did the wine. I think each tasting was 6 dollars (pretty cheap), the lady by the counter said if we wanted to try additional wines we were free to do so--how wonderful is that! We liked their selection and bought 3 bottles to take home. The Beau is really good and highly recommend it. If you are into sweet wines, apparently they are only one of a few wineries that make Moscato (this was interesting). If you are in the area, I highly recommend to give them a visit! read more

A great vineuard with an amazing view. This family owned business is operated from the home of the owners. They have a lovely patio with an outlook of their vineyard. They converted their basement into a tasting room which is where we did some sampling. They have a great selection of reds and whites; and thanks to a groupon deal through a bed and breakfast we stayed at, our sampling was free. We tried about 1 oz samples of each wine they had which was about 18 wines. I'm more into reds than whites but I really enjoyed their white wine called beau names after their dog that passed away. It had a great nutty flavor, amazing with fish. We purchased several reds as well. You must do the taste tour for this place. Really Great!! read more

As a couple, we stopped in on a Sunday and were delighted to see that it wasn't too busy, unlike another nearby winery. The service we received was great and this winery offers a few different tastings, so you can select what you are interested in tasting, which is great if you prefer whites or reds only. The location is beautiful, on the side of a hill overlooking a pretty stream and mountains. They have a nice seating area outside and a comfy area inside as well, in case the weather isn't conducive to being outdoors when you visit. Their selection of wines was nice. We first tried them at the Mount Vernon Wine Festival and really liked their chardonnay. They didn't disappoint on this trip, as we enjoyed the chardonnay + more this time around! read more

We stopped by this place during a road trip and loved the experience to an incredible degree. The view was absolutely stunning. The patio was an incredibly well thought out space, comfortable and welcoming. The wine was delicious. I'm not sure it's the best I've ever had, but certainly good enough to recommend. The owners were friendly and happy to chat. The wine produced is around the 5000 cases a year mark, so it's a roughly mid-sized vineyard, one that might be easy to miss but one you should make a point of stopping by. First stop on our Friday adventures was Bluestone Vineyards. Pretty estate. The tasting room was cute with a gorgeous deck that had glass railings. Apparently, eventually the tasting will be moved over to the clubhouse, which seemed equally nice. Our taster, Mary, was great! There was four tastings available which would have confused me to death as a server. But our taster was well organized and very flexible on a little special tastes. We tasted the classic and the reds. Loved most of the reds- got a Petit Verdot and Rose and a nice Bordeaux blend. Really enjoyed our visit. When we first walked in, there was an overwhelming smell of poop. Like so overwhelming, my fiancé and I talked about leaving before we even did the tasting. I think his exact words were, "it smells like someone died in here and then let out a gigantic dump on the floor." But we'd driven there to check it out, and the Yelp reviews were good, so we decided to try the wines. My fiancé tried the Reds, and I did the Reserve tasting. His was $5, and mine was $8. I liked one of the wines I tried, but my fiancé didn't like a single one. I feel like it must be a tourist trap to have gotten so many wonderful reviews. Or maybe their white wines are just the better option, and we picked the wrong thing. Because we weren't impressed. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but was not. I came here with a group of 11 friends (remember this it is important to the plot) on Saturday for a tasting. The tasting room was relatively small and had room for around 15-20 people to taste at a time. The tasting i comprised of whites and red and you can taste one or the other for $6 or both for $10 (remember this also). I was one of the only people in my group that tried both, which makes me the wine expert in the group and a prime suspect for alcohol abuse. The whites were good, but I am more of a red wine person. My favorites were probably the Chardonnay Steel, Moscato, and, my favorite, the Beau, which is basically what you'd get if you mixed the first two. Also the Beau was named after a Golden Retriever that was featured on the bottle so bonus points for that. The reds were better, but probably only because I like reds so much more. I thought the Cabernet Franc was a really good wine. It had a great spiciness to it that I think would really compliment a red meat and vegetable dish. My far and away favorite overall was the 2011 Merlot. I usually am not a huge Merlot fan, but this one was done extremely well: full bodied with a wood finish. Our group really lucked out on the day we went because they were having a Kentucky derby party. The winery had free finger food including mozzarella wrapped prosciutto, which was a big hit among us. Also, they had corn hole set up and a horse to take pictures in front of. So why is this a three start review and not a 5. First, we are grading on a curve. If you don't have fun at a vineyard than something is really wrong. Every vineyard I have been to has been beautiful and a great time. Compared to those this place is towards the bottom of the list. The big reason for 3 stars is once we got there they informed us for groups it was an extra $1 for tasting so $7 and $12. We asked why this would be and the employee said because it is harder for big groups. Is this $1 up charge a big deal? no. Is this the most asinine policy I have ever heard? yes. It is decentivizing you from bringing more people to the winery. Also, it was so much easier with our group than had we been three groups of four people. Instead of having people all tasting different wines she was able to go through and pour us all in a row. Also, I thought the lady pouring was a little condescending and rude to us after that. Overall a nice vineyard and a fun time, but wasn't that impressed with the tasting room, the policies, or the employees. read more

I've been to very few vineyard wine tastings, so when this was suggested by new friends who live in the area (old friends of my husband's), I jumped at the opportunity. We all chose to taste the whites, and got to sample a Sauvignon Blanc, a Viognier, two different Chardonnays, a Traminette, one called Beau, and a Moscato. I've never been a fan of Chardonnay, so these two were no exception, but loved almost all the others. My hosts bought a bottle - we agreed on the Beau - and we sat outside on the most gorgeous day of my week in Virginia, sipping the wine, munching on the Tillamook cheddar and crackers they brought along, and taking in the exquisite beauty of the vines on the sloping hillside. This was one of the most enjoyable tastings we had throughout our entire trip in the Monticello and Shenandoah regions. First of all, for $10 you get to taste like 20 wines AND keep your glass. WORTH IT. I love that the winemaker offers many blends as well as oak vs. steel varietals, really allowing for different palettes to find what they prefer. We loved most of the wine here and our taster was great, very personable and you could tell he really enjoyed his job. We were in a bit of a rush so we didn't get to examine the grounds thoroughly but they looked nice (even though I didn't see too many outdoor seating areas or a patio). Our first visit here was probably 4-5 years ago when the tasting room was in the small building/workshop at the bottom of the hill. We make it a point to visit most trips up to visit our son an JMU as its only a 15-20 minute drive. I prefer reds and the Mrs whites, the good news is here they have great whites for red wine drinkers and vice versa. In addition to great wine the staff are super friendly and knowledgable and will find something in their stable to suit your preference. If you don't find a wine here you like you may want to check you local 7-11 for some Boones Farm. Lastly the offer abundant outside seating with great views and evefor you to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine. Great sunsets abound if you can plan a fall trip. read more

I visited this winery on a Sunday afternoon and luckily my group was the only one there! The two attendants were awesome. Very knowledgeable but also very fun. The wine was great. The cheese pairings were spot-on. I know I should focus on the wine but the cheeeeese was amazing! Smoked cheddar!! And a few other options. We had a great time here. Showing up in the middle of a July thunderstorm we were met with a friendly and knowledgeable staff and other slightly damp patrons. The flights are wide-ranging and tasty. A friendly and social young man lending a hand in the tastings turned out to be one of the family winemakers. We had fun picking his brain about the wines and listening to the family story of the winery. They have many special events - concerts, showings of local artists, and they welcome guests to come and picnic in the spacious area behind the main facility.
