For a few years, things were great. Kids liked their dentist, scheduling was easy, appointments ran on time, and the location was convenient. Until our insurance changed again. I informed the office of the change, but after that next bill, we realized how little our new policy would actually cover. We really liked the practice though, so we decided to stay. When it was my 19 year old's turn for a visit, he declined the X-rays due to cost. He was met with resistance though and told yearly X-rays are standard and covered by insurance. When he replied that we had to pay for his brother's and didn't want them, the office apparently called the insurance company and came back to him saying it was 100% covered, so he eventually agreed. Long story short, my son felt pressured to have the X-rays done, and now we are stuck paying the bill. When I called later, I was told if he didn't want the X-rays, he should have signed a refusal form, but he was never offered one "because he agreed" -- yes, after he said no and then was led to believe they would be fully covered. Two things: The ADA does not specify X-rays are needed every 12 months, so why make declining them difficult by requiring a refusal form? And secondly, when I called the insurance company, they told me the office would definitely have known they were out-of-network and "100% coverage" would only apply to the small allowable amount designated by the insurance company. Furthermore, we were charged more for these X-rays than his brother's who apparently did not have the full set completed (which we never knew until I inquired about the difference in charges). At the end of the day, I realize this is a business, and whether it's the patient or insurance company who pays makes little difference to them. If you are the parent though of a young adult who has started to go to doctor visits solo, I would just proceed carefully here. Removing 3 stars for insisting my son have X-rays done after he declined them and for lack of transparency on charges -- and we're not talking a few bucks. Fortunately, at our new dentist's office, they print up estimated costs to review with clients before proceeding with x-rays and procedures, so no surprises ever. It can be done!

I sing her praises whenever anyone is looking for a dentist. It's borderline obsessive on my part. The other day I was sitting in the salon and overheard a girl struggling with finding a good dentist and looked up B on B on my Yelp app and emailed a stranger with the info. I know, I sound nuts...but I remember struggling to find a dentist in a new city (or even in one you do know well!) and all the stress it has saved me to be a patient at Brushin' on Belmont. Ok, so aside from that...I popped in for a cleaning this past week and decided to combat my extreme coffee/soda addiction with a Zoom! whitening treatment. It's on sale now for $395. It takes about 2 hours. You get after care equipment (mouth trays, touch up whitening solution, etc), and your teeth look super duper white. Not like Ross in Friends, but a nice shade a few brighter than what you walked in with. Plus! Tvs in every room. Got to catch up on some Maury and feel great about my life. Still a huge fan. I moved to CA eight years ago and still return to the Magnificent Smile 2-3x per year because I will never find any dental practice as good. Everything from the cleanings to the customer service to the general professionalism is top-notch. The office has little or no turnover which speaks volumes about the overall nature of this dental practice. Kudos to Jamie as well at the front desk for being incredibly responsive and professional. Most of my visits have been cleanings and fillings, but every visit was a breeze. He recently fixed a filling that another dentist incorrectly filled and was causing me pain, and I'm happy that he fixed it right away. The not-so-good: Not really a fault of their own, but certain insurance companies don't cover their services. Make sure to double check that you will be covered.

I was going to the dental salon for a few years before coming here and loved them too but made an appointment here earlier this year in the summer when my son got knocked in the mouth by accident with a laser tag gun during a birthday party and could not get an appointment at the Dental Salon to get his tooth checked for trauma. Dr Wier took us in right away to check and X-ray the tooth and I was so happy with the receptionist's (Vicky) friendly service that I scheduled cleanings for myself and my 3 kids in the fall. My 3 & 4 year olds loved their check up and keep asking when they can go back for a check up again, and my son loved them too so I forced my husband (who hadn't been to the dentist in years) to get his check up with them. My husband was blown away and was very pleased by their service. Fast forward to April 2014... All my kids and my husband and I have had check ups and cleanings. They were super thorough! I've never had such a thorough check up so I then scheduled myself for a simple procedure to fix a tooth and Dr. Kalkanas has been wonderful!
