When I arrived today, he told me he was working on my back filling (something he had mentioned at my last visit that eventually needed to be done; but never something I agreed to having done right away or with him for that matter). I already have my own dentist, but used Dr. Gonzalez for an emergency bonding since my dentist wasn't available. His assistant Juilana (who by the way is very sweet), even mentioned to me on the phone and when booking the appt that it was a follow-up, so I was already put off that Dr. Gonzalez took the liberty of doing what he wanted without my consent so he had more billable invoices he could send my insurance company. Secondly, I've always had a bad gag reflex when fingers or tools are in my mouth. Unfortunately, I've never been able to get over this, but my actual dentist (Dr. Bartolazo - one of the best in NYC) has always been patient with me and always makes sure I'm doing fine along the way. Dr. Gonzalez, on the other hand, was very rude and irritated with me because he couldn't get his needle in to numb my mouth. He started going off, saying he has never in his 23 years seen a patient who gags so much and literally threw his tool down on the table out of anger and frustration. In all my years of going to doctors and dentists, I've never ever seen a professional act this way to his patient. I immediately told him to let me up, as I wasn't going to deal with someone who treated me like this. He was just horrific with no bedside manner. I really can't believe he is still in business. I'm definitely going to report this to my insurance company as well. I should have known better after reading a couple of the reviews on here about how horrible he is. Be forewarned! (Also, btw, he is now on 45th Street just in case you're wondering if it is the same doctor since he goes by Dr. Gonzalez (not Molina).

In the process, he caused an even bigger problem with an unrelated tooth (he damaged a crown I had put in 2 years prior). I finally gave up and went to another dentist to fix the work he did. Additionally, Dr. Molina did a lot of work without warning me first. For example, he caught me by surprise when he started drilling my teeth without even telling me what he was fixing beforehand...when I asked, he said he was applying "medicine"...but what was the medicine for and why hadn't I been asked/told before he started using the drill? I have been going to another dentist since then and have been much happier. Dr. Molina is a pleasant man and has affordable prices, but his work and communication has not been good in my experience. When it comes to my teeth, I would rather shell out a little more money and have it done right.

I called and spoke with Patty, who answered the phone. Told her my dilemma, which was my onlay popped off and needed a recement. I needed pricing as I have no dental insurance. (I recently saw my dentist for my cleaning, exam and xrays so I'm up to date with everything.) I was put on hold and when Patty came back on she said I would need an exam and at least 1 xray. The fee would be between $200 and $400, which is absurd! I asked her why I needed xrays for a recement and she hung up on me! First, this is disgusting customer service! I called for dental assistance and she had the audacity to hang up on me! Secondly, adding unnecessary procedures to charge a larger fee is callous and unsympathetic ! A simple recement doesn't warrant an exam and xrays. I worked for a dentist in the past so i am somewhere familiar with protocol for a recement especially without insurance. I would have told her I was just at my dentist if she wasn't so rude and hung up! People lost jobs, have no income, are emotionally and physically exhausted by what's going on around us! To take advantage of this devastating situation we are in to get extra money out of people who are reaching out in an emergency is reprehensible behavior! I will now have to wait until my dentist reopens taking a chance of doing damage to the tooth. It's a back tooth so eating is a challenge. I'd rather suffer than go to any dental professional who takes advantage of people in need of emergency services! If I could give 0 stars I would. Actually negative stars!

However, his front office (billing assistance) truly lacks in follow-up and initiative and just a level of pleasant demeanor. I got the sense that the front office just doesn't want to do much, or call to get "pre-authorization" or breakdown of costs prior to committing to more invasive dental work. I requested this and it took them over 4 weeks, when I finally called the office to verify whether they received anything - the front office assistant claimed that they (the ins. company) probably didn't handle it or the physical paperwork got lost in the mail. When I called my dental insurance company to inquire whether any request for this paperwork was placed on my behalf, they told me they never received a call/request from Dr. Stern's office. Unprofessional, unreliable and no customer service if you ask me. For any medical/dental practice, your front office, receptionist and/or billing staff is so important. I called to follow-up and every time I was met with a "don't bother me attitude"...I cancelled all appointments and found myself another dentist.

This happened several times. That was easily fixable. The last time I went I waited 25 minutes for a hygienist. When I asked what was the delay I was told they had a "difficult patient." I couldn't understand that since a cleaning takes about the same time every time and with every patient. Then I heard the staff telling him he needed three more appointments because the hygienist needs to go very deep. What's a little malpractice? If it needs to be deep it needs to be done by a periodontist, not a hygienist. Back to me. When they finally call me in it is not the hygienist I had asked for when I made the appointment. Worse yet, my dentist was not in. I was going to be seen by another dentist. They should have called me to tell me that so I could reschedule. I was not there for an emergency. To add insult to injury, when I attempted to leave a staff member who I had never seen before attempted to lock me in my seat with her arms. You can't make this stuff up.
